RKM:SHR:ValidateManifucturer_err in ITSM 8.1

2014-01-08 Thread Pierson, Shawn
This Active Link gives an error Manifacturer entry is invalid. When trying to
click on Search Knowledge Base on an Incident that hasn't been submitted yet
(and I imagine there may be other ways to trigger it) despite having a valid
Manufacturer filled out. Any ideas on how to get rid of this error other than
by disabling the Active Link altogether?

Also, why is BMC incapable of spelling the word manufacturer consistently?

Thanks,

Missing Fields in SRM

2014-01-08 Thread Frank Caruso
ITSM 764 Sp2, ARS 764 sp2
Weblogic with midtier 8.1sp2
Oracle, Linux

We had to upgrade our midtier to 8.1sp2 because of the IE10 rollout within or
org. We are now seeing menu fields are no longer appearing in SRM. The question
is on the screen but the field with the menu does not appear. Also, the
required by date (field at the top of every SRD) no longer auto populates. We
have also tried version 8.1 on Windows Tomcat and have the same issue; menu
fields no longer appear.

Anybody else seen this issue?

Thank you

Re: [EXTERNAL] Re: BO and Analytics

2014-01-08 Thread Stroud, Natalie K
Sweety:

Analytics is built using BO. The difference is that BMC created an ITSM
universe for Analytics that includes pretty much every module in ITSM (except
Knowledge, though I think that might have been included in the version of
Analytics associated with ITSM 8.x), so you can start building some pretty
powerful ITSM reports OOB. It also includes some pre-built reports, though
personally, I haven't found those to be all that useful, except maybe to just
get a feel for what reports can look like.

If you started with just BO, you'd have to create your ITSM universe from
scratch before you could start building any reports for ITSM. The universe
includes fields, filters, and some reporting variables that make setting up a
query really easy. For instance, most common date fields in Analytics (such as
Last Resolved Date in IM) have universe variables for the year of that date,
the month number, the month name, the date without the year, the day of week,
the type of day (weekday, weekend, holiday), the quarter (calendar quarter
only, fiscal quarters are a customization), the month of quarter, etc., as well
as some others. Additionally, there are some built-in reporting variables for
the other side of the query (last 30 days, month number of previous month, year
of previous month, previous month, previous year, current year, current month
number, etc. that give you a lot of power in building queries. With just BO
but not Analytics, you'd have to build all of that by hand.

Hope this helps and good luck!

I believe they do the same things, however it is who is using the application
that makes the diff...
ANA is basically analytical reporting -- it can email and post to sharepoint
reports.. as well. (nice feature)..
ARS 8.1 can also do the Adhoc, and Bert reports by time as well.. CR is for
reporting with pretty formats.. etc Like ANA but does not email or sharepoint
them.
Also CR can be used on the web for web based reporting as well.
There are alot of minor differences, but with CR developer you can also just
create an RPT and plop it into the report form and anyone can use it with the
usertool.. Crystal reports viewer application (desktop app) can use it too...
just depends who and for what are you using it.

Re: ARERR 8958 The Date Value is Invalid

2014-01-08 Thread Bryan Waters
We discovered an issue with the Application Business Time process which
would generate this error when calculating dates in 2014. This is a known
issue/defect with ARS v 7.1.x, 7.5.x, and earlier versions of 7.6.04(see
below). We were able to get a hotfix from BMC for ARS v7.1. You should be
able to support a request to BMC Support and get the appropriate hotfix for
your environment.

KA407525
Problem

Following is a filter logging excerpt with an example of a service target
due date year that is incorrectly calculated to be 1969 rather than 2014:

 FLTR Checking
SLM:Measurement:ReqProcOverallStartTimeUpdateSLODueDateX (0)
FLTR -- Passed -- perform actions
 FLTR 0: Set Fields
 FLTR Application-Bus-Time2-Assoc-Add 1386103010 2592000 1 -e

FLTR Exit code: 0 Value: 0
 FLTR SVTDueDate (300364900) = 12/31/69 17:00:00

The expectation is that 30 days (2592000 seconds) will be added to 3 Dec
2013 20:36:50 UTC (1386103010) with a calculated due date of 2 Jan 2014
20:36:50 UTC (1386103010 + 2592000 = 1388695010). Instead, the date is
calculated to 31 Dec 1969 17:00:00

Solution

There is a known defect with business time calculation of a date past
12/31/2013 8:00:00 UTC because of a hard limit of 31 Dec 2013 08:00:00 UTC:
please reference SW00379074. This has been fixed in v7.6.04 SP5 and later
releases of ARServer. There will be no backport of this fix to earlier
releases and resolution of this problem is upgrade to a version of ARServer
where the hard limit with business time calculation is no longer in effect.

Please note that the problem is with ARServer business time functions and is
not an SLM workflow issue, which simply leverages those business time
functions in workflow where service target and other SLM dates are
calculated.

The attached document describes a workaround which could help in some issues
where a hotfix is not currently available (such as in version 7.6.03)

Re: SQL Stealing all of CPU

2014-01-08 Thread Janie Sprenger
Is your DB on the same server as the App and/or Midtier? Is the DB server
a cluster or otherwise shared?
I've seen some DB CPU problems when there isn't enough memory allocated to
the DB itself and/or is shared. Increasing the memory allocated to the DB
resolves the problem. Other things I've seen is with the SQL settings -
such as whether or not Transaction logging is turned on, hot backups, etc.
Another thing to ask for might be a 15 minute SQL trace - if there's some
workflow/job that's out of control, that would help to illuminate that for
resolution on the ARS side.

This error is a 'bug' (fault, failure, mistake, define as you wish) in
the Mid Tier javascript client code. The only useful way to debug this
is to attach a debugger to Mid Tier (ie Firebug, or the MS one in IE)
and find out exactly why it happened. I'd expect an engineer to join a
call and perform this for you - it should take someone with the relevant
knowledge about five minutes to figure it out.

Flushing caches/browser configurations/restarts etc are not solving the
issue, merely trying to hide it..

Upgrade from 7.6.4 to 8.1

2014-01-08 Thread Kathy Morris
Hi,

We are planning the upgrade from 7.6.4 to 8.1. Wondering what others have
experienced with a 7.6.4 to 8x upgrade. Our company feels this upgrade is
going to be very difficult. We have never archived any data. There were
over 100 hotfixes applied to 7.6.4. Besides the release notes, is there any
documentation to help with this painful process J Are there any gotchas?
Recommendations?

Thanks John, but we have sent workflow logs and fiddler logs to the
Support team, but we are still awaiting an answer. It's been 2 months.
This is working perfectly fine with Mid Tier 7.6.04 SP4. But failing only
with 7.6.04 SP5 . Or, I should say it has been our experience since we QA
tested SP4 and SP5 and found no issue on SP4 at the time except for the
continues looping of the logon page which forced us to go to SP5.

I know that the way the Mid Tier 7.6.04 SP5 is handling the Global Field
has changed and I am hoping someone has an idea on what we may need to do
to fix it beside reverting them to regular fields and having to deal with
the nightmare that goes with changing field IDs. When we moved to SP5,
the Global Fields stopped being auto populated and we had to add the
code on window open. We thought it wasn't such a big deal at first, more
a nuisance then anything. But now, we are starting to think that the issue
is bigger then just this nuisance and we may have to go the additional
route and change those field to regular field by changing their field
ID. I would rather not go that route if anyone has another Idea that
would be wonderful!

Thank you,

Pascale Sterrett

using the Best Practice View of the Incident screens.

Periodically we'll have a user report that a field gets partially overlaid by

This doesn't appear to be field specific as it has happened on different
fields. The most recent occurrence happened when the Assignee field move under
the Service field. Other users accessing the same mid-tier at the same time do
not experience this behavior. Logging the affected user out, clearing the

Has anyone experienced this behavior?

I don't think SLM:Measurement shows the status of the incident ID, only the

Are you trying to build a report showing this information? If not, what are

How could this be possible ? I tried accessing mid tier URL from mobile browser

We thought of using BMC Mobility but client does want to spent so much money to

Josh:

Is this migration between two systems on the same versions of ITSM (such as
from Prod to Qual, if, say, you wanted your test environment data to mirror
what's in Production) or a migration of data from one version of ITSM to
another where a straight out upgrade doesn't make sense? Like with us, we had
a group that piloted ITSM on 7.6.03 I think it was before we went live with
ITSM to the enterprise. We decided to go live with 7.6.04 for the enterprise
rollout, and while the 7.6.03 pilot installation could technically have been
upgraded, there were various reasons that led us to start from scratch with a
new installation of 7.6.04. As part of our rollout we had to migrate the
piloting group's tickets from the 7.6.03 to the 7.6.04 enterprise installation.

User account but no people record

2014-01-08 Thread Brittain, Mark
Hi All,

In ITSM 7.6.04, I am implementing a web service where an external ticket
system would send a request to the Incident Interface Create form, create an
Incident and turn the Incident Number back to the originating ticket system.
All of that is pretty straight forward. The question I have is about setting up
the user account. There won't be any updates or queries allowed. I could set
this up in the People form but don't want this account to appear as a Company
Contact.

Can I just set up the account on the User form with a read only license and
Incident Submitter permission? I could probably just try this but thought I
would check with the group first in case there any not so obvious snags to this
approach.
Thanks

Sadly, neither fiddler or workflow logs are of any particular use. Due
to the nature of AR System workflow, there will always be a large amount
of untested combinations of workflow/browser.

The fact you've identified a broad level source of the problem and two
patch levels should make the problem easier to solve. If you can easily
reproduce it, I can't think of any quicker way than a webex and a
Javascript debugger.

But hey, what do I know about support :)

I highly doubt you could achieve what you want to do without having to break
a lot of things as to how they were designed to work out of the box.

Is it possible - sure its only an issue of messing around with permissions,
yada yada yada..

Is it recommended? Maybe not. I have not thought this problem out after
reading your email, but there is a small chance that you might break some
things with multi tenancy or something like that.

The cleaner way would be to create the people record with necessary
supporting records in the people permission group form..

What is it that you'll wish to gain by not having the people record to me

In ITSM 7.6.04, I am implementing a web service where an external ticket
system would send a request to the Incident Interface Create form, create an
Incident and turn the Incident Number back to the originating ticket system.
All of that is pretty straight forward. The question I have is about setting
up the user account. There won't be any updates or queries allowed. I could
set this up in the People form but don't want this account to appear as a
Company Contact.

Can I just set up the account on the User form with a read only license and

would check with the group first in case there any not so obvious snags to
this approach.

Re: BMC Dev Studio - Windows 7

2014-01-08 Thread Pierson, Shawn
With Windows 7, things are a lot more complex than that even. For example, I
am a local administrator of my PC so I can install software and such. However,
Dev Studio, SQL Server Management Studio, Eclipse, and a few other things give
me errors. The only way around these errors for me is that I've pinned those
apps to my Windows taskbar, then right clicked on them and went into the
Properties, and on the Compatibility tab checked the Run this program as an
administrator option under Privilege Level.

There seems to be some issues specific to Windows 7, at least within my
organization, that don't like certain interactions with things that are in the
Program Files folders. It seems like there's a difference between running as
an account in the Administrator group and as running as the administrator.

Re: User account but no people record

2014-01-08 Thread Roger Justice

There are many reasons to create a service account People record. You must have a People Record to create the Incident. Remember the name can be From External System. You could then create a simple AL that will not allow an Incident to be created by a submitter that is not allowed, this will work since you will control the submitter of the Incident created from the external system.

I wonder if that is organization specific? I run as a limited user (unless
I need to elevate privileges for special occasions) and have used Dev

without issue. DS is (more or less) just a Java process. If your paths
are all set and DS can write to the directory it needs to then it just
works (without running as an admin). I haven't done extensive testing but
I think it only need write access to the workspace path which defaults to a
location in your Window profile where you should already have write access.

seems like there's a difference between running as an account in the

This is true. In Win 7 even if you are an admin on the machine you still
need to explicitly run some processes as administrator. Similar to being a
limited user on a *NIX machine and using sudo to elevate
your privileges for a specific task.

Re: AIE Flat File to CMDB question

2014-01-08 Thread Ortega, Jesus A
Hugo,
This advice assumes that you are working on Windows and using a CSV:
Start over again with a new data mapping. Place the file in your expected
location, but take out the TBL file from that location and just leave the csv.
Create the new data mapping and point it to the file location, like d:\program
files\bmc software\atrium core\AIE\Server 64\data, then save. See if the TBL
file was created for you. Proceed from there and verify that you can see the
fields in the Data Field Mapping tab on the CI Class Mapping. I had a lot of
issues with data maps over the past few months. Sometimes it is easier to start
fresh because AIE is so finicky.

Re: BMC Dev Studio - Windows 7

2014-01-08 Thread Charlie Lotridge
Neha, has the run as admin solution worked? This really sounds like a
firewall issue to me. In my experience having insufficient privileges
(which would be solved with running as Admin), would manifest as a problem
with running the Dev Studio executable or its access to local resources,
and not in a connection timeout.

Is the Win 7 box on a different wire than the XP box that works? In this
case there might be a firewall between the Win 7 box and ARS that's
blocking the traffic.

Another possibility is that it's the Windows firewall on the Win 7 box
itself. You could try turning it off temporarily to see if the problem
evaporates. Brief instructions follow:

1) Open Windows Firewall in the Control Panel
2) Select the Turn Windows Firewall on or off link on the left
3) Select Turn off Windows Firewall (not recommended) in both the Home
or work and Public sections

A couple more notes...

First, it's possible that your network guys have disabled access to this
setting, so you may not be able to do it.

Also, if you can do it, be sure to undo your changes (i.e. turn it back on
again) when your done.

If you DO discover it's a firewall issue (Windows firewall or an external
box), your network guys should be able to help you poke a hole in it for
this traffic.
