I can't find any Frank Fragoso Mello's in my tree - Several Manuel Fragoso
Mellos and of course, Mary (Maria) Medeiros Mellos…..My grandfather was born in
Lagoa,SanMiguel on 1/16/1866 - I show his wife born in 1875 - but am not sure I
have her correct line because she would have only been 12
Thanks for posting -I believe (without looking it up) several of my Mellos are
buried there. Very interesting - I hadno idea they "moved" everything!

Just wanted to let you know that besides
Very interesting! My Dad always said grand's maiden was Medeiros, but I dunno
- having trouble with it.I was too little to talk to him about it and born

Great info - Thanks, Cheri BTW, anyone considering pre-planning their funeral
should be sure the funeral home won't kick up the price when the kids go to use
the service! It happened to me - Mother thought she had paid for everything,

There is a Manuel de Mello listed as 794 (?) hard to read #'s. Medeiros was my
grandmother's maiden name. #815 I think would have made him too old if he was
born in 1866. Supposedly he was only 15 when he went to Hawaii.
I found a "stowaway" on a ship in 1881 for a Manuel Mello - no other
And therein lies the rub -- I have NO info on my great grandparents!

Just returned from Maui and was excited to order food with Portugese
Sausage.in my family this would mean linguica!
Are my taste buds totally gone? This version of linguica was way off the
mark! In the local store, one of the butchers said they discontinued the Silva
brand - which is what
on the 1900 census. They're using the
Fregoso surname. A census search will tell you why, there were dozens of Mello
families there in 1900.

Thanks, Cheri - I live in Truckee, CA - we are about 35 min. from Reno, NV. I
might be able to find something there also. Couple hours from Sacramento - as
well. We are just around the Lake from South Lake Tahoe, Ca.

Yes, I am on the West Coast - No. California to be exact in Truckee - No. shore
of Lake Tahoe. I can find the linguica at Safeway, etal - but I had never
heard of the Chourico - I've had Mexican Chorizo - which I am kinda assuming is
like Chourico (?).
Thanks for the info - this all helps.
For Manuel Mello (De Mello???) he went to Hawaii from Sao Miguel as a 5yr old
in 1883 and his wife, Maria Mederios, who he married in Hilo in 1897, went to
Hawaii as an 18 mo. old in 1881. I got all this info from another person on
Ancestry.com. I never found any of that info myself.
make use of chouriço -
cozido à portuguesa and feijoada are just two of them.
