Hi Rick,
I have had a little break from researching my history but have decided to
give it another shot over the Christmas period.
I just wondered if you could help me. What test would be the best to
purchase to check my fathers genealogy?
We can
Hi Doug,
I didn't make myself clear.. The GEDCOM standard (and most genealogy
programs) allow you to add an aliaas. You're the one combining them all
into one with 'ou/or' which your genealogy program will not understand.
In the case you mentioned (Ana Maria ou Ana Bernarda ou Ana de SIMAS ou
Hi Joao,I am just wondering if you enter in alternate names and then do a name search, will those alternate names be included in that search? My program has no alternate names option like you describe. There is something for maiden names/married names.I am hoping that the method I am using will
Hi Amy,
Hi Amy,
I am assuming that you have search all the records available in New Zealand
and have not been able to locate the town or village where your ancestors
came from.
The greatest problem I see is trying to locate where in Portugal (including
the Acores and Maderia) your GG
Hi Joao,Interesting. Is that how your program looks? I see it's how your webpage looks. My program is Brother's Keeper. I've stuck with it since the beginning of my research in 1990.When you generate a report like a family group, will those name variants appear like that, if you set it up for that?
Which test is better for a female with relatives from Madeira and Lisbon
Portugal?
Thanks, Kathy Lee

Ugh! Sorry I hit send before I included another document with Felilianna's
name.
Here's their daughter's birth certificate and I thought it said Felilianna
here.
Maria Lima,
It's a c. Look at the record on the left, for Miguel Franciso. He
writes his c the same way.

Maria Lima,
It's a c. It's just the way he writes it.
What I did when I was learning (and I do now too, if I get a different
priest/scribe) is to look for a KNOWN word.
The c in the middle is in question. So I look for a word that I know
with a c in the middle. Like Francisco. Not a c at
Wow, Joao. You win the prize with that example.I would have to be very careful to consider her as the same person as Francisca when she used Maria. I wonder if it's a question of the priest making an error. I have seen many times when as a grandmother, the priest listed the wrong first name in the
Is Simmons an authentic Portugese name?
If not what would be the translation of this Americanized last name?
Suggestions appreciated.

One day old. That would be a baby traveling with the parents.
I've seen kids in the passaportes. 8 years old? Some with family members,
some not. I assume that they were traveling with someone from the same
freguesia. I don't know of any rule about the passaportes and age. Maybe

I have a lot of notes to type up from the conference. I've been doing 1
lecture a day and will try to type up more depending on my time schedule.
Also, there will be a lot NOT posted. Some technical stuff, some
anthropology stuff, and some really in depth stuff. It just doesn't apply
to this
Mike,Usually the original name is Simoes (Simões). It might be others, like maybe Simas, but Simões has the closest phonetic sound to Simmons. But I see your "From" says that already "New Bedford Simmons or Faial / Pico Simoes".If your Simões is from Pico, I would be interested in the details. I

I am looking for a Geneologist to hire that can deliver some research / a

Does anyone know of someone that I can hire that has expertise in New
Bedford, Ma, Pico and Faial immigrants.
Just no time to invest in this important work.

Mike S,
Let me be perfectly honest with you. It's not going to happen by
Christmas. You probably would have had to start in January to make it
happen.
Even on Who Do You Think You Are? it takes up to 2 years for some of the
celebrities to get the research in to create the episode.

Pam meant that she used them for the Azores end. I don't believe either
George nor Joao do American research in tracing an emigrant ancestor.
And another thing, Mike SMany researcher have a wait list. So if you

Antonio, I think you are correct. Taking another look the first letter is
not an “M” when compaired to other “M”s written by this writer. In checking
with my notes on writing it has the form of a “V”.

That's very helpful, Cheri.Maybe it won't be as bad as I imagined.I bet you don't know every program all list members are using. And if you never used BK, don't be so sure you wouldn't like it.But I will do some testing and see if I can export/import a gedcom with minimal alteration from the
