Also, Wayne Fidler posted some photos of a bird that looks good for a
Redhead x Ring-necked hybrid from the same area, so anyone looking for the
Tufted should keep and eye out for that bird and try to get more photos.

Chris and Jessie and Jeff had the female type TUFTED DUCK earlier this
morning from Hog Hole, but at about 8:00 (I believe) it flew north out of
sight with a flock of Redheads. These Redhead flocks have been moving up
and down the lake so it may well return, but it is not being seen currently.

Just had a SHORT-EARED OWL foraging around over the fields at the Ithaca
Airport viewed from halfway down Snyder Road. I first spotted it perched on
a small pole in the field. It changed poles twice, soared around a bit,
then headed off across the road into the woods. This was at about
Haven't heard any reports of these birds yet today, but the flock seems to
still be around.
Good birding,

A probable female and a reported male HOARY REDPOLL are frequenting the

reportedly at least two Greater (rostrata) Common Redpolls.

Hi all,
I just saw a probable female HOARY REDPOLL in a group of about 220 Common
Redpolls that were working (and by working I mean flying over and
occasionally landing in trees for less than a minute at a time) the area
around the parking area of the new FLLT preserve on Irish Settlement Road,
Bob McGuire and ten others on the bird club field trip are watching what
they believe is likely a gray GYRFALCON perched in a tree along the north
treeline of Knox-Marsellus Marsh at Montezuma. They are working to get
better looks to confirm it.

+ CANVASBACK flying high down the lake. On Burdick HIll Road we
found dozens of Red-tailed Hawks and another NORTHERN SHRIKE distant to the
north. Some feeders at Drake Road had 18+ Common Redpolls and a Northern
Flicker nearby.

Despite heavy migration last week, today many thousands of SNOW GEESE
remain in several large flocks somewhere about halfway up on Cayuga Lake,
and a single large flock on Seneca Lake. I know because I saw them from my
window seat.
