Gull? Most of the sightings were viewed at a great distance with very distant
shots if any at all. Referencing the Tufted Duck from Marsten many called the
duck until difinitive photos proved otherwise. I noticed Ebird

Bear Creek Lake Park. Heavy snow now making it tough. Great views before heavy

Yesterday, Frank Farrell found a Red Phalarope on the east side of the sandspit
at 1145. Loch Kilpatrick and I were able to see the bird around 120pm in the

It's funny that and I Matt Crook and I had the same bird!! The undertail
coverts of this bird matched for Chestnut-sided and remember that winter birds
have a strong eyering. My feeling was that this was a bird more in a weird

Park, I headed to Red Rocks. Highlights include a male Black-throated Gray

Last Chance was very birdy. The best birds were PHILADELPHIA VIDEO,

AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER, Pectoral Sandpiper, and many other shorebirds.
Yesterday, I decided to bird Belmar Historic Park once the drizzle and storm
were on their way out. Belmar was pretty quiet except for a Loggerhead Shrike
(first for the park), and a large flock of birds that had Wilson's(many),
Townsend's(3), Yellow-rumps, Warbling Vireo, and Chipping

To echo Glen Walbek, Crow Valley was special today. It was one of the best
days I can remember in this special area. The frustrating part was not being
able to bird the other side of the park due to the high water flowing in this
area. The highlight was seeing the female KENTUCKY WARBLER and
I was at Crow Valley Campground with a few birders including Joe Roller. We
were alerted to a Common Poorwill on the west side of the campground on the
other side of the fence. The bird was perched on a small stick allowing great
views. After getting home, Joe Roller realized that the bird

arrived this morning in the freezing temps and noticed Gwen Moore had placed
seed in the area. While placing sunflower on the stone wall I heard a few Rosy
Finches circling above. After waiting for at least an hour my

This afternoon around 5pm I was able to see Lewis's Woodpecker from Walt and
Linda Knudsen's backyard. I got great looks while the bird perched in a dead
tree in the flurries directly behind their property. This was the first time
I've seen a Lewis's Woodpecker in Jeffco. On the way out I

Rose-breasted Grosbeak trying to chisel sunflower seeds from the ice. I went
down to the yard and put in fresh sunflowers in the feeder. The bird didn't

The Prothonotary Warbler is still present at Main Reservoir in Lakewood. Many

Today, I received a call from Joe Roller saying that Doug Kibbe and Mackenzie ?
(terrible with names) had a Prothonotary Warbler at Main Reservoir (NW corner
of Jewell and Kipling). Within 10 minutes, they got me on the bird. The
gorgeous warbler was hanging with a flock of Bushtits,

hummingbirds(Rufous and Calliope) have yet to start their southern migration.
This year, I've had the fortune of enjoying Mountain Chickadees nesting in our
front yard in SW Lakewood. These guys have driven out both our

Daren Obrien and I spent an hour at the birdy Wheat Ridge Greenbelt. A pair of
Rose-breasted Grosbeaks joined many of the more common migrants. Photos of the
Grosbeaks and the Belmar Cassin's Vireo can be seen in the rare to uncommon
gallery below.

Thinking that things couldn't be any slower than Barr Lake(mentioned in
earlier post by Loch Kilpatrick ), I headed to Crow Valley Campground. The
only birds of interest were a Common Poorwill, Golden-crowned Kinglet, Orchard
Orioles, one Hermit Thrush, a few Swainson's Thrush and a Dusky
This morning, I went over to Main Reservoir and ran into Vince Friedman who had
just seen a Blackpoll Warbler. Within 15 minutes I was able to locate this
bird who was being harrased by the many Yellow-rumped Warblers. A few Western
Tanagers, Orange-crowned, and a Savannah Sparrow summed up
