You could also go to Toshiba.com's product support pages and plug in the model number. There are detailed specs (which may help) and an accessory finder (which may show other internal drives for that model). -Andy Tony B wrote: A 2005 computer should be able to handle a 250G drive. Easiest way is to go to the manufacturers web site and see what options or upgrades they sell. They will tell you which drives usually fit in there and the specs. I would not assume a laptop made in 05 would be SATA. We bought a Toshiba for my son in 05 and it had an IDE drive in it. You would have to see what the largest sized IDE laptop drive you can find is. St3wart At 10:20 PM 12/6/2009, you wrote: My Toshiba is claimed to have a 60G SATA drive in it. Re: [CGUYS] Reformatted HDD --big problems still!.
Gail if this is a Dell you can go to their web site and download all your drivers. When you run the self expanding driver it will create a directory on your HD called dell and will make a subdirectory of the driver. Mark down the number of each driver, and the do an install of the hardware or when it asks for a disk, direct it to the subdirectory. Stewart At 12:34 AM 12/7/2009, you wrote: Hi I rinally (for the first time) reformatted my HDD on my Dell Dimension E510. The procedure went surprisingly well, and I THOUGHT I had gathered all the software, drivers, etc., taht I needed. However, somebody said the drivers would be on the ereformat drive so I wasn't very careful about that I fear! So I can't find the proper sound card driver -- well, I apparently had it because the sound worked for a couple days but then I downloaded Service Pack 2 and now I have a couple issues: There is no sound. I've double checked to be sure the speakers are plugged in and I've looked at the Device Panel to see that my IDE High Definition CODEC has a yellow question mark and when I check it, I'm told that the device cannot start (Code 10). The troubleshooter wants me to uninstall it let the system reinstall it it seems to think all will be well. So I did that and it sstill doesn't work. Upon the found new hardware I'm asked for a disk and then we go back to grund zero. I have to suspect that this came about with the installation of Service Pack 2. And I have two other issues (that i had on my machine before the reformat) which are two error messages at atartup, having to do with my DLINK router that I use to access the Internet through my Comcast Modem. The messages are: AIRGCFG.EXE NOT FOUND (WLANAPI.DLL). The other one is WZCSLDR2.EXE -- driver not found in wlanapi.dll. Those two issues (and a couple more) occurred before the reformat after I onstalled Service Pack 2 on the machine a few months ago. No users except myself are in my little network- on the desktop and the laptop. So long as it's not hurting anything these latter two annoyances can stay but I really need to see what I can do to restore sound to my system. One of the reasona I wanted to reformat the HDDD was so I could get my Media Center up and running again and then watch TV through my Hauppauge USB Box. When iI first got this machine 3 years ago it worked beautifully but , sometime around the time I installed Service Pack 2, it stopped working, Of course until I can get sound it seems silly to test to see if I can get the TV to work NOW THAT i HAVE REFORMATTED THE DRIVE SO so I haven't done that yet. Any help/advaice/ etc you can provide will be MUCH appreciated. I'm eager to get this finished so I can get on with Christmas! Betty translation sites lack the human factor. I recently did a English to German translation for a prayer. The result was acceptable but not great. I also had my mother translate it for me. They were different. One of things that the translation cannot do it substitute idiom and phrasing for things like this. It may be an exact translation, but it does not sound right to the person of that language as they would not say it correctly. Example. English - Shut the window please. German - Bitte schleissen dem fenster. That is a correct translation however a German would never say it that way. Correct German translation - Macht die fenster zu bitte. Make the window too please! Re: [CGUYS] Google Language Tools [was: Server restrictions]
Part of the art of translation is understanding the subtleties of translation. That is why when I went to seminary the ability to read Greek, Hebrew, and if possible German and Latin were required. Because when you deal with original text's just a literal translation will not cut it. My language skill has waned over the years. But I still do reading to see how it should be done and understand the subtleties being described. It never hurts to learn a foreign language. My cousin who graduated from a trade school in Germany was required to learn two foreign languages to graduate. In the state of Alabama, to receive an advanced diploma you need two years of a foreign language. TO get a general high school diploma no foreign language is required. We cripple our own children by not challenging them to live in a multi cultural world. Stewart At 02:20 PM 12/7/2009, you wrote: Thanks, for your compassionate understanding in this, Rev. [CGUYS] Consternation over Computer Constipation - help!
Once again I seek the wisdom that is so generously dispensed here. My Dell desk top just doesn't seem to want to do anything right...or quickly. When I click on links nothing happens. Sites don't load or only very, very slowly, hence the constipation metaphor. IE freezes up and Fire Fox (which is what I usually use) is having the above problems. Documents also open slowly. These problems seem to have occurred or become significantly worse since I installed the upgrade for the free AVG software on Dec 1, when the previous version expired, so wonder if this has a role. I notice that it now has a spy ware software, as well as the free Zone Alarm Pro version I downloaded maybe 2 months ago (the previous free version didn't have this as I recall). I also have at least one other spyware program running, so wonder if I have too much of a good thing. My question is - I don't even know where to start to figure out what's wrong or how to fix it. Are there simple steps I should take to see if the problem(s) get better? I can't even fix the message that says Firefox is not able to show the Toolbar. Don't know if this is related, but in Firefox, don't even have the back keys highlighted or functional. Tried to reinstall Firefox but got a message and wouldn't even let me do this. One other thing - the program that is supposed to automatically begin to download pics from digital camera to PC also isn't working (and it once did). Couldn't get this fixed, either. Don't know if this might be related to other problems. Is my computer now like a very old person or car, where too many things are breaking down and it looks terminal?? Should I just start uninstalling questionable software? I'm afraid if I start tinkering, I'll make things worse. I have 1 gig of memory. Should I add more? Will this magically solve everything?! :) Thanks as always Randall * ** List info, subscription management, list rules, archives, privacy ** ** policy, calmness, a member map, and more at http://www.cguys.org/ ** *

Sounds awful in English but it is a proper translation again. All languages have their idiomatic phrases that are part of learning that language and makes you speak more like a native. It was pistachio spelled phonetically using the Thai alphabet. We looked for a photograph that she recognized, the she told me that in Thai [translated again] it's called a smiling nut. [CGUYS] Strange Mouse Wins Acclaim
New Apple mouse really is 'Magic' http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2009/nov/09/kellner-new-apple-mouse-really-is-magic/ Enter the Magic Mouse, announced a few weeks back. Although it is a normal computer mouse in the sense of being able to move the cursor around, its clicking, scrolling and sweeping actions make it more like the latest notebook touch pads than the older mice this new device has rendered obsolete. But it's the very act of scrolling with the Magic Mouse that is, well, magical. Unlike using the scroll wheels on many (most?) of today's mice, the simple move of gliding one's fingers up and down the mouse feels more natural than I can describe in words. It just works better. Until a user spends a few minutes with the Magic Mouse, I fear that any description, no matter how enthusiastic, won't properly convey how good a product this is. After decades of using computer input devices, I think this is the finest mouse ever. P.S. Doesn't work with Windows. P.P.S. Re: [CGUYS] Speaking of 2.5 drives. . .
Thanks to all that made suggestions. I ran AIDA 32 (Similar to Belarc) on the Toshiba and it reported the drive as being Ultra ATA. A quick Google search on the model number told me that it is a Hitachi SATA drive, so I'm confident there. I'm not so worried about cloning the drive. It's time for a wipe due to strange problems that I'll relate in a separate thread. I figure it would be a good time to get more space for dual booting. Hitachi says it's a 9.5mm thick drive. I was going to get an enclosure for it, but it looks like 9mm is the standard(?). Is that the case, and if so, will a half mm make that much difference? Looks like it's about 3/128th of an inch. Guess that depends on how tight the enclosure is. Re: [CGUYS] Speaking of 2.5 drives. . .
Ultra ATA SATA. I'm telling you, you'll be making a big mistake to rely on anything except your own eyes. In most laptops, it's only a 5 minute procedure to open it up and look at it - probably less time than you've taken so far playing with software. And you're going to have to do it eventually anyway to replace it. On Mon, Dec 7, 2009 at 11:30 PM, Reid Katan ka...@his.com wrote: Thanks to all that made suggestions. Re: [CGUYS] Speaking of 2.5 drives. . .
I would check visually also, as Ultra ATA is IDE not SATA. (IDE is usually listed as PATA nowadays) SATA stands for Serial ATA. IDE was a totally different interface. Why not put the model of the laptop up here, maybe some of us have had experience with it. Stewart At 10:49 PM 12/7/2009, you wrote: Ultra ATA SATA.
