Re: [External Mail] Re: [Csgo_servers] Update broke Windows servers?

2022-06-28 Thread John
I will run further checks. If only a single DLL changed (and not the
steam.inf), it might not have gone out on my end.

It was broken on Thursday, June 23, so if a fix was out yesterday, that
would be two working days (assuming that nobody works over the weekend)
or four standard days.

This seems like a major bug that causes widespread issues on community

been four days now.

It's great that the community has found workarounds (reverting to

it's not being taken seriously by Valve developers -- and more broadly,

That is odd. There's dozens of reasons of why that
would happen, and most of it feels like its on
behalf of Windows. My best say would be that light
versions of Windows 10 might be better to host it,

If I remember correctly, Gmail’s file filtering is really stupid, and can
be circumvented by literally just changing the file extension.

If they’ve improved it at all, I believe just stuffing it into a zip or 7z
file (especially if encrypted) does the job well.

(Seems dubious that mailing lists like this one would allow attachments at
all, however.)

That is odd. There's dozens of reasons of why that would happen,

Re: [Csgo_servers] Update

2018-05-08 Thread Stealth Mode
The bad part is the bot mails aren't on one device. I have been contacted
outside of this list from someone using proton VPN/protonmail
harassing/stalking me with outdated personal information.

I suspect this is the same person who has these scripts running to spam the
list with random mail domain porn bots.

I am back tracing the Mac address of the proton VPN user now. I am awaiting
protons I.T. department to go through their server logs for the Swiss proxy
server they went through.

example, i got 2 mails from the list that i've been unsubscribed due to
excessive bounces few weeks ago and i havent even posted to this list
more than once in the last 4-5 months.

Your membership in the mailing list Csgo_servers has been disabled due
to excessive bounces The last bounce received from you was dated
22-Apr-2018.

Propably going to receive yet another porn mail after this mail where
some bot showcases image of some naked girl and pretends to be her.

Can you guys stop this public spam? If you want to criticise him so badly,
just do so privately. This isn't reddit, and we're not here to circle jerk,
so continuing this crap in public is really inappropriate.

Well looks like you aren't very knowledgeable David. Vertices, and faces
when not connected properly. Cause tremendous gfx lag/rendering issues.
Maps still compile. However, they will be very laggy in the broken/bugged
areas.

Yeah my original map was fun. th_cqb_training. Very intense map. With a non
havok based old school entity chains that created reactive environment.
Including hidden bombsites. That you had to blow stuff up to expose. I made
a few maps in Hammer editor since vALVE renamed WorldCraft. But not under
my normal nickname.

Anyway this is a topic more for the hlmappers list. We kindve hijacked the
original thread. I apologize to csgo devz for that.

Nevermind. I don't run the client. Don't have the resource files. I only
install these servers. I still play source. No offense. But a mod that
isn't as good as source isn't worth my time. The store is a vulnerability
too. Ever check those weapon skins? You'd be surprised what's embedded in
them.

Denial of Service attacks are both illegal, and in my opinion, extremely
immature. Security issues are not a joke, and as a long-time former
server operator I sympathize greatly with other server operators who
have to deal with such attacks every day.

update came with no documentation for server owners, I'd thought
I'd do some documentation myself.

The crash worked by using a malicious client to run the ConCommand
"setinfo" in rapid succession for a period of time. Malicious
commands were in the format "setinfo %d %d" where %d was an
incrementing integer. On low-memory configurations, SRCDS could
run out of heap space, or cause high CPU usage - enough to lag the
server.

This memory and resource exhaustion worked because a) setinfo
iterated every registered ConCommand looking for one with the same
name as the first parameter, which would block, b) if none exists,
a new one is created with the specified name and value on the
heap, and c) each unique run of setinfo would cause step (a) to
take longer, thereby consuming more resources.

Prior to this patch, mitigation was possible with SourceMod
plugins that rate-limited ConVars. SourceMod Anti-Cheat had this
capability, among other plugins. Vanilla servers were doneskies.

*Most servers will be unaffected by this patch.* If your server,
for whatever reason, needs to use setinfo or FCVAR_USERINFO in the
middle of the game, then you must selectively whitelist allowed
userinfo keys by defining the FCVAR_USERINFO ConVar on
connection. This can be done quite easily on SourceMod.

 1. Listen for OnClientConnect events.
 2. Define a new ConVar with the specified key name with flag
FCVAR_USERINFO (9).

This update patches a crash exploit circulating for CSGO SRCDS. This
affected both official and community servers. Since this update came
with no documentation for server owners, I'd thought I'd do some
documentation myself.

The crash worked by using a malicious client to run the ConCommand
"setinfo" in rapid succession for a period of time. Malicious commands

integer. On low-memory configurations, SRCDS could run out of heap
space, or cause high CPU usage - enough to lag the server.

This memory and resource exhaustion worked because a) setinfo iterated
every registered ConCommand looking for one with the same name as the
first parameter, which would block, b) if none exists, a new one is
created with the specified name and value on the heap, and c) each
unique run of setinfo would cause step (a) to take longer, thereby
consuming more resources.

2016-03-21 Thread Vitaliy Genkin
An optional server stability update for CS:GO has been released. It is
recommended for server operators to update servers with PatchVersion=1.35.2.9
to the latest build ServerVersion=310.

Community servers that need clients to upload changes to their userinfo entries
during gameplay must set all allowed server-side userinfo setting keys when
processing client connect.

Vitality,

It seems you can no longer parent items to players - is this intended.
If so, should we take it this is now considered illegal behavior as
well? We have long since parented identical skins to make them glow
for effects - see plugin by Mitchell here:
https://forums.alliedmods.net/showthread.php?t=240703

More to the point, could this sort of thing be included in updates as
well. It would be nice to know when you are actively deciding to
eliminate custom content features so we are not left guessing.

[Csgo_servers] Update

2015-09-16 Thread Vitaliy Genkin
An optional update for CSGO version 1.35.0.1 has been released.
The update contains stability improvements, and whitelists convars
sv_ladder_scale_speed and sv_show_voip_indicator_for_enemies for community
servers.

Thanks for the info Vitality! What about:
L 07/31/2015 - 12:47:38: HyproZ113STEAM_1:1:105425816TERRORIST
disconnected (reason #GameUI_Disconnect_DeltaEntMessage)

error? Clients cannot connect when there is more than 1650 entities
within the game.

2015-07-30 23:42 GMT+02:00 Vitaliy Genkin vita...@valvesoftware.com:
With the latest update game server will now repeat the same UserCmd for users
who are not transmitting their UserCmds in time.

Previously, if client stops transmitting any UserCmds while mid-air then that
client will just get stuck hanging mid-air until it either resumes
transmitting UserCmds or gets disconnected. With the new change
non-transmitting client will continue falling down and running physics thinks
even if they stop transmitting. When the client resumes transmitting the
server will only allow up to sv_maxusrcmdprocessticks backlogged UserCmds
to be executed on a single tick.

You can fix SMAC by treating the same identical UserCmds repeated by server
 code as valid.

It appears that the latest update has broken Source Mod Anti Cheat.

I know this isn't valves problem, but just an heads up to other community

Community servers that are running Source Mod Anti Cheat (SMAC) have been
 broken by this server.

If you're in a server running SMAC and minimize you'll get banned for Eye

Welcome to the CSGO/hlds/whatever mailing list. This was your first lesson:

1. If it works, don't touch it or update it unless you really have to.

updating server can fail when it is an optional update. It won't be
fixed soon, only when next update arrives or when there is another
optional update. Valve doesn't care about mods breaking down, as long as
their own binary compiles and runs.
