this) then you should report it against autoconf-doc.
A related bug is already filed as #298504.

yes the bug 298504 says a similar thing

but mine is not a documentation bug.

I think that you may be saying
that it is a bug that AC_PATH_XTRA does not try to compile and
link when it finds that /usr/include/X11/Xos.h exists. Is that
the bug that you are reporting?

yes . It is due to macro _AC_PATH_X_XMKMF

and AC_PATH_X suffers the same problem (I just checked)

Ps: X11/Intrinsic.h is never ever checked anywhere :
  $ grep Intrinsic.h -r /usr/share/a* x-test/
  does not report anything

The documentation is wrong. Here is what the relevant changelog
 entry says:

   * AC_PATH_X now checks for X11/Xlib.h and XrmInitialize (X proper)
rather than X11/Intrinsic.h and XtMalloc (Xt). Thanks to Kurt Roeckx,
Thomas Dickey, and Paul Eggert. Closes: #327655.

OK, let us assume that the documentation says that

Then my bug says: no, AC_PATH_X does not check
 X11/Xlib.h and XrmInitialize

Bug#346286: loop-aes-utils: mount -o loop fails with multiple loopdevices

On this system here I'm unable to reproduce a failure. Although
only /dev/loop/0 exists, the /dev/loop$n devices up to max_loop
are created by udev and multiple mount -o loop calls work fine.

Can you tell me the exact steps leading to the failure and the
error message mount returns? An strace log of failing mount -o
loop would also be good for finding the error. Thanks.

The advantage of conserver's logging and replay is that it starts when

start some other program like screen and run a bunch of programs in it.

It also logs even while someone is logged into the port, while termnet
in screen would tie up the console and prevent any other uses of it.

So termnet in screen wouldn't work very well. Something like ttyd with

Hi,

Thanks for the bug report.

I have tried what you described, but failed to crash rtorrent (0.4.1-1).
Would you be able to get a core dump file and maybe a gdb backtrace?
That would help the developers to find the problem.

Jaris, how do you think this problem?

No matter whether you have data in the sheet or not:

 1. Go to File-Save As.
 2. Click on 'Save in folder' or 'Browse...' and choose 'Desktop'
 3. Change name of file

 BOOM!

A clearer problem description than BOOM! is needed, for instance a stack
trace.

On my current sid system, the application behaves as one would expect (it
saves the spreadsheet in the Desktop folder under the name entered). Thus,
I'm tagging this report accordingly until more information is provided.

Bug#347457: ocamlagrep: binary packages lack dependencies

2006-01-10 Thread Aaron M. Ucko
Package: ocamlagrep
Version: 1.0-6
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 3.5

When you reworked your packaging to stop hardcoding ocaml's
ever-changing ABI, you appear to have twice made an unfortunate typo,
neglecting to precede either occurrence of {F:OCamlABI} with a dollar
sign ($). As a result, per dpkg-dev bug #228125, dpkg-gencontrol
produced binary packages with no dependencies whatsoever.

Could you please fix this bug when you get a chance?

Thanks!

BTW, what called my attention to the issue was apt's willingness to
upgrade libagrep-ocaml(-dev) even though it couldn't yet upgrade the
other ABI-sensitive ocaml packages I have installed.

Apache2 - 2.0.54-5, egroupware-ldap - 1.0.0.009.dfsg-3-4,

The embedded frame which displays phpldapadmin in egroupware is very small.
I've always found it smaller than I like, but recently it has shrunk VERY small.
I can only see a couple lines of my ldap directory in it. All the other
egroupware applications are normal. I've tried poking around in the various
phpldapadmin php config files and changed a few height settings, but the best I
could do was enlarge the overall frame that phpldapadmin sits in, not the actual
frame for it (it's kind of an embedded frame). I can send screenshots, config
files, whatever is necessary.

Thanks.

It shouldn't be problem because FreeBSD kernel 5.4 and 6.0

It uses only the value addrlen from function in system call.

Unfortunately, we are hitted by computing the whole name length as

Hello, Petr. Have you seen the annotation that Aurelien did on Jan 2nd

Actually according to POSIX1.2004, you don't even't need to use strlen and
offsetof, you can use sizeof(struct sockaddr_un) instead. Tested with a
FreeBSD kernel and a Linux kernel.

POSIX1.2004, page 263 says:
address_len Specifies the length of the sockaddr structure pointed to by
the address argument.

Anyway, I am applying your patch, as it is correct for you, until you

Bug#338290: Can't start X twice on GNU/kFreeBSD

2006-01-10 Thread Petr Salinger
Hi David.

Have you seen the annotation that Aurelien did on Jan 2nd
 in the upstream bug report?:

Yes, it is another approach to fix it.
In fact, this coding style is already used i.e. in
extras/Mesa/src/glx/mini/miniglx_events.c

GNU/kFreeBSD has problem with
namelen = strlen(sockname.sun_path) + sizeof(sockname.sun_family);

It will work with either
namelen = strlen(sockname.sun_path) + offsetof(struct sockaddr_un,
sun_path);
or
namelen = sizeof(struct sockaddr_un);

The first fix is closer to previous code, both are correct.

Anyway, I am applying your patch, as it is correct for you.

Thanks

Petr

Bug#340968: kde: work-around for hanging at session

2006-01-10 Thread Ross Boylan
Package: kde
Followup-For: Bug #340968

I'm not sure if this is the same problem as the original report, but
the symtoms seem similar.

For two different upgrades of KDE, first from 3.3 to 3.4 and then
within 3.4 I I had KDE hang partway through restoring session on login
from kdm. This did not kill my X server; I think that's different
from the original report.

This did not happen with a newly created user. I was able to fix
the problem by removing .kde/share/config/ksmserverrc and the session
directory. The 2nd time I only deleted ksmserverrc and that was
sufficient. Obviously I lost my saved sessions.

I can provide the ksmserverrc file; I have not attached it because I'm
not sure if it contains any potentially sensitive information (that
is, I don't know what it records other than program and window
location).

I tested the new version on my unstable system, but I do not see any change in
behaviour. Firefox crashes in just the same way as before.

drivers/net/wireless/airo.c requires CONFIG_CRYPTO for compilations.

Therefore, AIRO and AIRO_CS should select CRYPTO.

Additionally, this patch removes the #ifdef's for the non-compiling
CRYPTO=n case from drivers/net/wireless/airo.c.

Hi,

Thanks for the bug report.

I have tried what you described, but failed to crash rtorrent (0.4.1-1).
Would you be able to get a core dump file and maybe a gdb backtrace?
That would help the developers to find the problem.

Jaris, how do you think this problem?

I belive this bug was fixed right after the 0.4.1 release by the patch
below. It would crash when changing priorities on a torrent that was
closed (never started).

 Hi!

Hi there!

Thanks for the patch you sent to this bug report.
I am trying to repackage newest upstream version and your pacth
  breaks with it.

That's because support for plain FreeBSD has been added in the lastest
version and in a different manner than in my patch. Therefore my patch
to the old version break things on the new one.

That's exactly what I suspected. I will send upstream the new patch too
so that he has a chance to look at it.

In this URL you will find my efforts to package this, can you please
provide a patch that applies cleanly? Only minor changes might be
needed, but I do not understand the code well enough to change it
  myself.

  http://www.amayita.com/debian/xlibs-transition/

Please find attached a new patch, which is more simple than the
previous one, as support for plain FreeBSD has been added. Please also
note that the package should build-depends on libgtkextra-dev (=
2.1.1), as the configure script fails with previous version.

Yes, I know, I am also working on a newer upstream version for
gtk+extra.

I also gave a look at gtk+extra. First it fails to build on
GNU/kFreeBSD due to outdated libtool and config.{guess,sub}. You will
find attached a patch to update those files at build time, that's also
remove config.{guess, sub} from the .diff.gz file, and reduce its size.

Hey! I get two for teh price of one! LOL

Please also note that libgtkextra-2.1.1_2.1.1-1.1_i386.deb does not
contains the lib. It's seems it's because the library is still called
libgtkextra-x11-2.0.so. I haven't investigate if the package name or
if the library name is wrong.

Probably both :(
I am facing this issue and am not that familiar with library packaging.
That is my dead-end, I can't really continue, but just do some trial and
error until it works. That's not efficient and gets ireally frustrating
after a while, that's why i am tagging tboth bugs help.

I might blog about this and see if anything comes up.

Thanks for everything!

Bug#263358: minit: Minit not to be included in sarge, experimental packaging

2006-01-10 Thread Erich Schubert
Hi,
Since sarge has been released, do you think it would be time to close
this bug and let the package flow into testing for possible release with
 etch?

The package is not up to date, and I'm not using minit myself any
longer.
Therefore the package is RFA:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=334178
And I probably should retitle that into orphan.

Bug#337317: Processed: Re: Processed: Reassign #337317 to libusb

2006-01-10 Thread Andreas Jellinghaus
Am Montag, 9. Januar 2006 23:38 schrieb Aurelien Jarno:
but has to use it? I think that is wrong. noone forces you.
sure, using the different directories would allow people to use
acl, which is not possible on usbfs.

Has to use it, because /proc/bus/usb is not usable anymore if the
permissions are wrong. I already received dozen of mails when udev
stopped to changes the permissions of /proc/bus/usb in favor of
 /dev/bus/usb.

wouldn't it be better to fix it and set permissions on both, if both
exist? forcing people to upgrade is a very bad idea, and often
not possible at all.

Note that you can use ACL on /dev/bus/usb, not on /proc/bus/usb.

I know. openct runs as root, so neither matters to us. also I wonder:
are all ioctl available, if you have write access to the device? I thought
ioctl's might be sometimes limited to root, but I'm not sure about that.

As said in my previous mail, %03d is now used with newer versions of
 udev.

good. thanks.

It's not my fault if openct uses some fields incorrectly. Note also that
 the problem has been fixed.

well, libusb exposes the field, so users are allowed to use it.
chageing the content from one version to another is hardly the
users fault.

That would be a good idea, but I don't want to diverge from other
distributions with an incompatible library. Please note that upstream is
currently writting libusb version 1.0.0, which will be ABI and API
incompatible, but will have a lot of new features. Maybe you can ask
 upstream about that.

ok, will try once more.

since when did /proc/bus/usb did have permissions?

For a long time they were handled via hotplug.

ah. hmm, I didn't know you could chown or chmod that files
at all. maybe that was added later? IIRC the first usbdevfs couldn't
do that, but I might be wrong.

It's not because your application don't need to handle permissions that
you should ignore them. Most of the applications that use libusb are
 using the permissions.

well, I use the device. all I need is to open() and ioctl() and poll().
So I can ignore the permissions very well, as I don't touch the devices
in any other way. and the services offered by my apps (ifdhandler)
are restricted by the scard group already, so I think that is fine.

libusb uses /dev/bus/usb as first, and /proc/bus/usb as fallback. This
is necessary because contrary to you, the vast majority of users do care
about permissions of their usb devices.

Therefore dirname and filename are using the name in /dev/bus/usb, which
are now the same as /proc/bus/usb, so that openct is now *working
 correctly*.

ok, thanks.

Andreas

Here are the posts the Debian people pointed me to, to
explain what was wanted:

  http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2003/12/msg7.html
  http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/2003/12/msg00194.html

Could you clarify the copyright situation for me? I need
to know who owns the copyright, and what year it was
copyrighted.

Bug#345995: enemies-of-carlotta: Manpage/Documentation should explain moderation=auto

2006-01-10 Thread Erich Schubert
Hello Lars,
I'd also suggest two settings - auto and self; where auto means
that any member-post is not moderated; and self (like in ezmlm) is to
be moderated by the posting member himself.

Hm, self would be meant for situations where we want to let anyone
post, but don't want spam to get through?

Yes, basically we want subscribers to be able to moderate (read:
confirm) their own postings. This lessens the load for a moderator -
ideally each member will just confirm it's own postings, so a moderator
isn't really needed.
Because moderation can slow down a list a lot...

best regards,
Erich Schubert

 Hi,
your package fails to build on m68k and ia64, since you specify a (no
 longer) existing/used compiler:

 guile-1.6-snarf -o guile-gtk.x guile-gtk.c -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I.
 -I/usr/include/gtk-1.2 -I/usr/include/glib-1.2 -I/usr/lib/glib/include

 /usr/bin/guile-1.6-snarf: line 53: m68k-linux-gcc: command not found
 make[1]: *** [guile-gtk.x] Error 1

If you have to call the compile by it's exact name, it is m68k-linux-gnu-gcc
since etch, and probably similar for ia64. It should not build on other
arches as well, but maybe they still have an older compiler installed
 besides the default gcc-4.0.

Actually this appears to be bug#317600, which is that guile-1.6-snarf is
calling the wrong compiler.

That bug is fixed in guile-1.6 1.6.7-1.1, which isn't built on m68k or
ia64 due to bug#326905.

Even on i386 and amd64 it's actually calling x86_64-linux-gnu-gcc.
m68k and ia64 must have renamed their compiler since guile-1.6 last
built properly.

Looks like I can workaround this anyway.

Bug#347467: f-spot: Display tag names

2006-01-10 Thread Roland Mas
Package: f-spot
Version: 0.1.5-1
Severity: wishlist

I use tags a lot (~250 tags in my collection currently), and although
they do have an associated icon, it can be hard to know what tag is
actually attached to a photo. I therefore suggest that the icons be
made active, for instance with a tooltip that would display the tag
name (maybe even the full tag ancestry). I feel that could be useful
both in Edit mode and in Navigate mode.

It's legal that the package installation fails? Why you don't refuse to
install, e.g. the preinstall script should check and fail or bring a
warning and the postinst should not run the hazardous parts and the admin
must do it by hand (i.e. call dpkg-reconfigure tex-common or update-XY).

Bug#347468: ipw2200 in linux-image-2.6.15-1-686 lacks monitor mode

2006-01-10 Thread delicious nougat
Package: linux-image-2.6.15-1-686
Version: 2.6.15-1

I upgraded to linux-image-2.6.15-1-686 and found that kismet no longer
worked. Neither could I set the card into monitor mode via iwconfig or
airmon. It's an ipw2915, which has worked more or less with various
ipw2200 drivers until today.

A quick check revealed that the ipw2200 driver had not been compiled
with Monitor mode support...it looks like this is set as an option in
the config file. No idea why it didn't result in a module with monitor
mode support ...but I was able to get monitor mode by installing the
ipw2200-source package, editing ipw2200.c and putting
#define CONFIG_IPW2200_MONITOR
at the top and using module-assistant to make a new module. Which is
probably not the brightest thing in the world but it works again.

Our automated buildd log filter[1] detected a problem that will cause
your package to segfault on architectures where the size of a pointer is
greater than the size of an integer, such as ia64.

This part of inetutils is not used for any package, so thus I'm lowering
the severity. I'm going to apply the fix anyway and fwd to upstream.

Bug#347470: f-spot: Inconsistency in displayed tag icons

2006-01-10 Thread Roland Mas
Package: f-spot
Version: 0.1.5-1
Severity: normal

The row of tags displayed under a picture un Navigate mode is not the
same as the one that's displayed in Edit mode. From browsing through
the code (IconView.cs, around line 880), it seems this is a
consequence of the artificial (and now thankfully historic) difference
between tags and categories. Some of my tags started their life as
categories, and apparently F-Spot hasn't forgotten that. Visible
consequence: in edit mode, the icon is always correct, but in
Navigate, I see the icon for a parent tag (actually, a grandparent or
even further up the hierarchy).

Now that the distinction has been removed, I suggest replacing the
code at IconView.cs:880 with an invocation of the TagView class.
Added bonus: less duplication of code.

that program supports doing the submission w/o a plugin, so I think this
package should be removed from the archive.

(I've just orphaned rbscrobbler.)

Bug#347472: preview-latex: update-auctex-elisp calls rm with a too long list of files

2006-01-10 Thread Norbert Preining
Package: preview-latex
Version: 0.9.1-4
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Hi!

At the end of the update-auctex-elisp scripts there is a call:
rm -f $(find /var/lib/auctex/ -type f -name \*.el)
which can lead to too long argument list.

Please use
find /var/lib/auctex/ -type f -name \*.el -print0 | xargs -o /bin/rm -f

Thanks.

Bug#347473: makedev: please add em8300 devices

2006-01-10 Thread Nicolas Boullis
Package: makedev
Version: 2.3.1-79
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

Hi,

For quite some time, I've been generating /dev/em8300* devices in
em8300's postinst script, in violation with the policy. Can you please
apply the attached patch, so I can rely on MAKEDEV for the creation of
these device files?

Thanks in advance,

Nicolas

Bug#175911: problem persists (or reappeared)

2006-01-10 Thread Carsten Pfeiffer
With current Xorg 6.9 I'm experiencing similar problems. Xorg.0.log says

(**) (MGA(0): *Default mode 1280x1024: 108.0 MHz, 64 kHz, 60.0. Hz
(II) MGA80): Modeline 1280x1024 108.00 1280 1328 1440 1688 1024 1024 1028
1066 +hsync +vsync

but my TFT receives 31,3 kHz and 29,3 Hz.

Maybe I'm only experiencing this now, because the binary-only driver from
Matrox is not available for Xorg 6.9, so the plain Xorg driver is used.

This happens with both DVI and analog connection.

Thanks,
Carsten

Bug#338290: Can't start X twice on GNU/kFreeBSD

2006-01-10 Thread Siward de Groot
For your information :

sarge::Info::libc::sockets::localnamespace::details  has :

w

You should compute the LENGTH parameter for a socket address in the
local namespace as the sum of the size of the `sun_family' component
and the string length (_not_ the allocation size!) of the file name
string. This can be done using the macro `SUN_LEN':

 -- Macro: int SUN_LEN (_struct sockaddr_un *_ PTR)
The macro computes the length of socket address in the local
 namespace.
w

I have no idea why this is.

  have fun !

On Tuesday 10 January 2006 22:11, Petr Salinger wrote:
 Hi David.

Have you seen the annotation that Aurelien did on Jan 2nd
  in the upstream bug report?:

Yes, it is another approach to fix it.
In fact, this coding style is already used i.e. in
 extras/Mesa/src/glx/mini/miniglx_events.c

 GNU/kFreeBSD has problem with
 namelen = strlen(sockname.sun_path) + sizeof(sockname.sun_family);

 It will work with either
 namelen = strlen(sockname.sun_path) + offsetof(struct sockaddr_un,
 sun_path); or
 namelen = sizeof(struct sockaddr_un);

The first fix is closer to previous code, both are correct.

Anyway, I am applying your patch, as it is correct for you.

 Thanks

 Petr

Hello Christopher,

Please apply the patch at the end of this message to fix usermode RC

file of the new debian package to my pbuilder, please.

The following lines is the output of uscan using debian/watch as
input:

Bug#347474: ITP: yics -- Yahoo! Chess client for use with FICS interfaces

2006-01-10 Thread Chris Howie
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

YICS is a FOSS client for Yahoo! Chess. It emulates a FICS server, so it can
be used with many FICS interfaces that support the concept of an ICS helper.

Basically it presents an alternative to the Java applet provided by Yahoo!,
allowing many of the nice features of the FOSS clients (PGN logging, sounds,
etc) to be used with Yahoo!.

Bug#282259: fetchmail: shouldn't print sleeping at date while logging into syslog

2006-01-10 Thread Roger Lynn
On Sat, Jan 07, 2006 at 04:30:16PM +0100, Matthias Andree wrote:
Why not just use --silent to get rid of these messages?

That also disables logging when messages are received, which is a
useful thing to have logged. If you're going to use --silent you
may as well disable logging to syslog altogether. What is the
point of the current behaviour of flooding syslog when nothing has
happened? Fetchmail didn't use to do this.

Bug#62821: Old proposed patches #1: 462_warn_to_edit_shadow

2006-01-10 Thread Nicolas François
On Tue, Jan 10, 2006 at 08:00:36AM +0100, [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:
The attached patch was written back in November for Debian bug #62821.

It simply adds a small warning to vipw reminding the user to also edit
the shadow file when using either vipw or vigr.

So far, I haven't got feedback on it.

I intend to now apply it and close the relevant Debian bug (#62821,
one of the oldest we have), no matter it's applied upstream or
not. But, Tomasz, can you give us an indication whether you think it's
 OK for you...

I think it can be applied.

The possible improvements are:
 * also propose to edit the non-shadowed databases when -s is used
 * verify that the system is shadow enabled before the warning
 * Maybe no warning should be displayed in quiet mode?

 * do not just warn, but also propose to edit the other database

The attached patch implements the first two points.
As the message is now displayed 4 times, I prefered to use a generic
message.

Bug#321399: kdemultimedia-kfile-plugins: any action? bug still exists in 3.5.0

2006-01-10 Thread Christopher J Peikert
Package: kdemultimedia-kfile-plugins
Version: 4:3.5.0-3
Followup-For: Bug #321399

Does anybody have an idea what's up with this bug?

I am getting bizarre behavior for ogg's and mp3's, even with the new
KDE 3.5.0 in unstable.

meta data fails completely for mp3's, both on the command line and in
konqueror. kfile spits out lots of kio (KMimeType) warnings when
invoked on an mp3 (but no warnings on an ogg). See below for a
transcript.

kfile from the command line works for ogg's, but the Meta Info tab
in Properties under konqueror fails completely.

kfile seems to work fine on avi's and such, though it spits out all
the same KMimeType warnings.

Here's a command-line example for an ogg:

$ kfile --av Weird\ Al\ Yankovic\ -\ Yoda.ogg

Since Linux kernel 2.6.14, /proc/pid/smaps was added. This file gives
information about the RSS usage of each mapping, which is a very useful
value for memory usage profiling and optimization. The pmap utility
should use this file, when available.

Bug#347479: partman-auto-lvm: stuck at VG name question at medium priority

2006-01-10 Thread Frans Pop
Package: partman-auto-lvm
Version: 7

During an install at medium priority, I got stuck at the question asking
the name for the VG after the following sequence of actions:
- Enter partman
- Select erase entire disk using LVM
- Select separate home
- Enter 'main' as name for the VG

At the main partman screen everything looks fine, but I decide I want to
use the default name for the VG after all.
- Select guided partitioning
- Select erase entire disk using LVM again
- Select separate home again
- Enter 'Debian' as name for the VG and accept

At this point the VG name question is asked over and over again...

Bug#343713: ion3: Not a bug

2006-01-10 Thread Sukant Hajra
Package: ion3
Version: 20060107-1
Followup-For: Bug #343713

I've talked to the user community including Tuomo (the Ion3 developer) and
here's what I believe is the consensus regarding this issue. If you look at
the Lua file that the Debian package installs to
/etc/X11/ion3/cfg_bindings.lua, you can find the following lines:

  kpress(ALTMETA..F12, mod_query.query_menu(_, 'mainmenu', 'Main menu: ')),
  --kpress(ALTMETA..F12, mod_menu.menu(_, _sub, 'mainmenu', {big=true})),

Uncommenting the big=true line and commenting out the other line will restore
the previous behavior. Tuomo has favored this new text-based method (which
relies heavily on Tab complete and Ctrl-Tab traverse selection to select an
item from the menu. Actually, I think that Tuomo is definately stepping in the
right direction with this change; the previous implementation is bulky and
somewhat GUI-oriented in that it relies on arrow keys. The user /can/ just
type in the text of the menu entry to be selected. However, in the event of a
mistype, I'm not sure it's easy to know what state the query system to unroll
selection. I just end up using the arrow keys to reset the state. In the new
menu system, I can clearly see the text I've typed and backspace upon a
mistype. Those in favor of the previous menu system are free to revert back to
it.

However, there /is/ definately some room for improvement in the current Debian
implementation of Ion3. Tuomo's default installation (from his Darcs
repository) doesn't really have a lot of items in it's F12 menu system.
However, this package implements a menu system that reveals the Debian menu
system, which I believe is derived from Freedesktop.org standards and/or the
Debian policy. This reveals a ton of items in the menu system upon a tab
completion. It's the same problem faced when upon trying to prematurely tab
complete in a terminal. At least in this instance you get a message like
Display all 2033 possibilities? (y or n). I like the fact that I can get
to a menu system of installed applications, however, there's just too many
options revealed at once.

What I'd propose is a mix of the old system and the new system. From the old
system, I'd retain the feature of only revealing one level of the menu
hierarchy at a timei. This way, I can immediately use tab completion right
after hitting F12 to see a reasonable slice of my options. From the new
system, I like seeing the text that I've typed, and I prefer using Tab and
Ctrl-Tab to expedite selection. I'm also okay with the arrow keys working as
they do in the new system -- scrolling up and down through a history and moving
left and right through the typed text. However to implement this change, I
don't know if a change to Tuomo's source code, or a modification to the Debian
package scripts, or some Lua scripts are required.

I'd recommend that the status of this bug be moved to something more along the
lines of wishlist because although there's not something wrong as reported by
the original bug report, there are still some wrinkles that should be ironed
out that are in the same vein of the original report.

Actually, it means nothing of the sort. It is bogus, adds little for

It simply means that after you have brute-forced the root password (with

Bug#87648: Old proposed patches #2: 463_login_delay_obeys_to_PAM

2006-01-10 Thread Nicolas François
Hello,

I tend to agree.
There is no need to have a FAIL_DELAY in login if another service do not
have a fail delay. So it is preferable to have the delay in PAM.

Currently FAIL_DELAY imposes a minimum delay. Other PAM modules may also
set another minimum delay (e.g. pam_unix imposes a 2s delay when nodelay
is not set). The resulting delay will be the maximum of these delays
plus/minus 25%.

The patch could be modified to:
 * remove FAIL_DELAY from debian/login.defs
 * move FAIL_DELAY to the ifndef USE_PAM section of lib/getdef.c
 * move int delay; to the ifndef USE_PAM section of src/login.c
(patch attached)

One possible issue would be if a pam module do not set a minimum delay.
FAIL_DELAY could be used as a configurable delay, but I don't think having
a non-configurable delay (0 or 2s in pam_unix) is an issue (i.e. no need
for a delay= pam_unix option, or at least no need to wait for such an
option).

Tomasz, the patch will probably not apply to your CVS. Please just comment
on the goal.

Another way to fix this bug is to document the PAM behavior in login.defs.
(nodelay will be respected when FAIL_DELAY is set to 0)

Bug#347482: initramfs-tools: Fails to boot with / on LVM and /boot on separate partition

2006-01-10 Thread Frans Pop
Package: initramfs-tools
Version: 0.48

The new option in Debian Installer to automatically partition using LVM
creates a system where / and most other partitions are on LVM, but /boot
is a separate real partition.

The initrd created using initramfs-tools fails to boot with this setup and
seems not to be aware at all the LVM is needed.

Bug#328217: compact/encoded view missing?

2006-01-10 Thread Paul Wise
Upstream has agreed to re-add the change. They sent the attached patch
out for that. It would be good if you could add it. Also, consider using
dpatch or quilt, this hand-rolled patch system is quite annoying.

On Mon, 2006-01-09 at 17:28 -0800, George Williams wrote:

It is not going to happen.
 Er.

Ok, everybody seems to like the old compact/uncompact behavior (except
me). I was thinking about this and realized that it is actually much
easier to handle in the new encoding scheme than the old. So I have put
 it back.

The UI is slightly different. The Encoding-Compact menu entry is
checkable and if selected toggles between compact and uncompact views.

Bug#310729: Is this package still maintained?

2006-01-10 Thread Nicolás Lichtmaier

The 'lxr-cvs' package seems to be orphaned. Perhaps it should be
marked that way so someone adopts it. Besides.. shouldn't this be the
default lxr version replacing the ancient one?

Ok, I should update it, and I should sort the patch to apply.

Thanks, I'm glad you are around =).

The main problem I have with the package is that actual version works,
and doing test for new releases is expensive (time and computer
resources).
Help is always welcome ;-)

Package it and upload it to experimental. I'll do some testing on it.
Or just upload it to unstable, it's unstable after all =) .

Second quesitons:
I would maintain the two program and
was already in the plan to move the names:

lxr - lxr-kernel
and with some transition time
lxr-cvs - lxr

The old lxr is very good for the linux kernel releases,
and it don't requires mysql.
The second branch has support for a lot other languages,
and it is used as base of other projects.

Sounds very reasonable!

Thanks!

Bug#347484: gcc-4.0: Give option not to depend on system -base package for cross compiler

2006-01-10 Thread Ian Wienand
Package: gcc-4.0
Version: 4.0.2-6
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

Hi,

Thanks for making it quite easy to build a cross compiler on Debian.

The only problem I have had is that the packages by default depend on
the -base package used by the system gcc.

This means whenever I upgrade my system gcc I need to rebuild my cross
compiler to have the right dependencies. I think this breaks the way
many people use cross compilers -- they want fairly static versions to
build specific things. I'm happy to run with the latest and greatest
on my system, but I'd prefer if the cross compiler stayed how it was
until I explicitly touched it.

The following patch implements an option DEB_CROSS_INDEPENDENT which,
if set, builds against a cross compiler specific -base package. If
not set, the old semantics remain.

The patch looks big because it changes the dependency field of all the
packages in control.m4, but otherwise I think it is quite straight
forward. I included some documentation in README.cross. I have
tested this building with and without and it behaves as I expect.

Thanks for considering it,

-i

Bug#347485: kde-core: dcopserver process does not stop and prevents logout

2006-01-10 Thread Ferenczi Viktor
Package: kde-core
Version: 5:45
Severity: important

After using some applications a dcopserver process remains
active and prevents logging out from KDE. If the dcopserver
process is explicitely killed from a text console, then
the logout process continues and the normal login screen
appears.

Example: Start a KDE session. Start VLC (VideoLAN Client),
open an AVI file, play, switch to full screen, switch back
then close VLC. A dcopserver process sould remain running.
Try to logout from your KDE session. It won't be completed.

Switch to a text console (Alt-Ctrl-F2), then kill all
dcopserver processes with killall -9 dcopserver (assuming
other users are not connected at the same time). Logout
will continue.

If you try to shutdown your computer instead of logging out,
then the unkillable dcopserver renders filesystems unmontable
and can cause a long fsck on next startup. RAID arrays cannot
be stopped correctly, since they remain used. Poweroff cannot
be issued and the machine must be turn off manually.

The bug is induced only by a few applications. I can preproduce
the problem only with VLC for now, but this could be a more
general problem with dcopserver.

Bug#347486: imagemagick: type-ghostscript.xml generated wrong because of lack of space in rules file

2006-01-10 Thread Jeff Lessem
Package: imagemagick
Version: 6:6.2.4.5-0.5
Severity: normal

The font path in /usr/lib/ImageMagick-6.2.4/config/type-ghostscript.xml are
generated incorrectly, so fonts can't be accessed properly. An example of
the wrong path is
/usr/share/fonts/type1/gsfonts--with-magick-plus-plus/s05l.pfb

The bug is probably due to the lines
--with-gs-font-dir=/usr/share/fonts/type1/gsfonts\
--with-magick-plus-plus \
in the debian/rules file. There should be a space after gsfonts so it reads
gsfonts \.

Bug#267782: your patch

2006-01-10 Thread Joey Hess
Your patch is not approprite for an NMU, since it makes the package use
dpatch which is an intrusive change (and some of us rightly hate dpatch
and its ilk). You also forgot to add the necessary build dependency.

Rest of it looks ok, so if you want to submit a version that doesn't use
dpatch, I'll be happy to nmu it for you.

Bug#347489: zsh: Mysterious, spurious reverse-video % appears after typeahead before prompt

2006-01-10 Thread Chip Salzenberg
Package: zsh
Version: 4.3.0-dev-2-1
Severity: normal

When zsh hasn't yet printed its prompt and I typeahead part of a
command, when zsh finally prints its prompt it first prints a
reverse-video % and moves to the next line, leaving the ugly
typeahead and uglier % visible. Thus, for example, if I start an
xterm and typeahead the characters cd before the prompt appears,
this is how my screen looks:

cd[%]
% cd

where [] depicts reverse video. I've eliminated my precmd and
preexec, switched xterm programs (xterm and rxvt), and simplified
my prompt (PS1='x'), and this behavior remains.

Bug#347490: FTBFS via runaway gawk

2006-01-10 Thread Joey Hess

While building this package, it seemed to hang here:

gawk: /tmp/18741/linuxdoc-tools/info.awk:32: warning: escape sequence `\}'

top showed that gawk was spinning, and eating increasing memory. I eventually
killed it ater 10 minutes of runtime and 300 mb of memory consumed. AFAIK
it was going to grow forever. I think your awk script is broken.

Here's the process that hung:

Bug#314963: followup about /etc/serial.conf

2006-01-10 Thread Daniel Kahn Gillmor
i don't fully understand the /etc/serial.conf
vs. /var/lib/setserial/autoserial.conf distinction, but i think the
reason the script was trying to bail might be this:

/etc/init.d/etc-setserial is responsible for working with the
canonical /etc/serial.conf, if such a file exists.

if such a file does not exist, then /etc/init.d/setserial should try
to work with /var/lib/setserial/autoserial.conf.

one consequence of this division of labor is that
/etc/init.d/setserial notices that /etc/serial.conf exists, it should
really bail and try to avoid doing its own thing.

does this analysis seem right to anyone? can anyone clear up what the
intended policy is?

Version: 2.6.15-1
Severity: important

After upgrade to kernel 2.6.15-1 wine 0.9.5 (deb package from winehq.org),
crossover office 4.1 and 5.0.0 stopped working: with most win32 apps, after
launch and some input (mouse or keyboard), the whole system appears locked. No
way to kill: only the SysRq keys still work.

This issue doesn't happen at all with kernel images 2.6.14-2 and 2.6.12: I
posted here this issue for that reason. Didn't test non-smp kernel.

Thanks, Mau

Bug#345611: openoffice.org: [64bit] Making OpenOffice src compile

This is what the bug I referenced in my last mail wants. And I don't
want to do that (in any case, why not just an else?). It still is
too premature for that afaik. And no, before you ask; Ubuntu doesn't
ship it either, they just build it and let the build fail...

 You can close this bug.

Will be done with the next upload...

Bug#347482: initramfs-tools: Fails to boot with / on LVM and /boot on separate partition

The problem seems to be in the !. The lvm script expects / there.
This means the vg is not recognized properly and therefore the modprobe
for dm-mod and the vgchange are not executed.

Bug#346303: /usr/sbin/backupninja: 24: Syntax error: ( unexpected

2006-01-10 Thread intrigeri
Joey Hess wrote (06 Jan 2006 22:51:58 +0100) :
The backupninja script remains full of bashisms like the one in the
subject which is caused by defining a function with the non-posix
 function keyword.

Please either audit the whole thing (should be pretty easy) or make it
 use bash.

There is a problem in the autotools stuff, since backupninja.in and
ninjahelper.in source files have [EMAIL PROTECTED]@ as shebang, but... after
./configure has been run on my system (Debian Sarge), src/Makefile
contains the following: BASH = /bin/sh

Micah, any idea?

Joey, thanks to insist on this since the Debian packaged backupninja
still has a wrong shebang. But we probably won't make backupninja
POSIX compliant, see related discussion in bug #338795.

Ciao,
