Bug#336142: python2.3-iconvcodec: The file _iconv_codec.so is marked as requiring an executable stack but doesn't seem to need it.

 Package: python2.3-iconvcodec
 Version: 1.1.2-1
 Severity: normal

Probably as a result of using assembler code without the extra section for
labelling this file is marked as needing an executable stack. This means
that it does not work correctly on SE Linux and GRSec systems.

 See http://people.redhat.com/drepper/nonselsec.pdf for more details.

No idea why but rebuilding seems to remove the executable stack mark.
(Note that this package was built two years ago.)

I'll upload the new version soon.

Bug#344048: installation-guide: Please make debian; , and some other entities translatable

2005-12-19 Thread Changwoo Ryu
Package: installation-guide
Version: svn trunk
Severity: normal

In Korean books/medias, foreign words are usually written as Korean
Hangul texts rather than the original ones. (Exceptions include acronyms
and unpronounceable words.) That's why I translated Debian as
데비안 and Linux as 리눅스.

And such words include Intel, Apple, Motorola, ...(The Korean
branches of these companies are actually using their localzied
Hangul names.)

But manual/build/entities/common.ent file defines debian; entity as
Debian GNU/Linux language independently, which makes the Korean
translated manual very inconsistent.

We need a way to translate these entities.

Bug#344693: installation-guide: paragraph which is hard to transalte with PO file poxml

While I'm translating installation manual via PO file, I found following
behavior of xmlpo. in manual/en/welcome/doc-organization.xml:

xref linkend=boot-installer/ describes booting into the
installation system. This chapter also discusses troubleshooting
procedures in case you have problems with this step.

is converted to the following PO entry:

describes booting into the installation system. This chapter also
discusses
troubleshooting procedures in case you have problems with this step.

It assumes the entity is the very first of the sentence. But this is
not true in some languages and cultures.

For my case (Korean), a chapter (or a document) is never an active thing
and it's very weird when a chapter became a sentence's subject. The
chapter describe something... should be translated like In the
chapter, you can read something... in Korean.

The binary NMU are not stupid... but your packaging is no more compliant
 with the latest python policy.

python2.3 won't be shipped in etch and is removed from sid already (or is
going to be removed soon). The old dependency python (= 2.3), python (
 2.4)
 can't be met in etch/sid.

So dh_pycentral is not going to generate a dependency which results in an
 uninstallable package.

Please either change the package to work with python 2.4 (and any other new
upstream version) or remove the package completely. And the same applies to
 python-cjkcodecs (#398039).

Please take a decision and we could provide you some more help. We're
speaking of RC bugs here, please act promptly.

I see. python-cjkcodecs has mreged to python 2.4. (And
python-iconvcodec does almost same thing with cjkcodecs.) So just
removing is the right decision.

Well, the problem is still on python-central, exactly dh_pycentral which

Bug#381657: installation-guide: Korean PDF build patch

2006-08-06 Thread Changwoo Ryu
Package: installation-guide
Severity: wishlist

This is Korean manual PDF build patch.

It adds new Build-Depends on latex-hangul-ucs, which is already in
testing.

I agree this is a hack for building Korean document with plain TeX. It
will be obsolete when some clever (maybe pdflatex?) way is ready. But
currently it works anyway and is useful.

2008-10-14 Thread Changwoo Ryu
Package: tasksel
Version: 2.75
Severity: normal

ttf-unfonts is now a transitional package for ttf-unfonts-core and
ttf-unfonts-extra. Please replace ttf-unfonts with ttf-unfonts-core.

Most desktop users will need ttf-unfonts-core only.

Bug#496266: UTF-8 string characters not properly recognized

2008-09-02 Thread Changwoo Ryu

 Christian Perrier wrote:
  Le samedi 23 août 2008 à 19:59 -0500, Adam Majer a écrit :

The following UTF-8 string is not correctly handled in gedit,

  const char *unicode_insert = ?Э;

The and the ? characters are viewed as one character, making the
entire thing next to impossible to copy/paste/edit.
Looks like an issue in pango, since it is not specific to gedit.

Such things seem to happen a lot when using Tibetan characters, so this
may or may not be intentional. I’d prefer to have the input of someone
who uses them. Is there anyone on debian-i18n who’s more knowledgeable
  about Tibetan glyphs?

Adding Pema Geyleg and Tenzin Dendup, our fellow Dzongkha translation
coordinators, who certainly have skills about Tibetan-family scripts
(Dzongkha is one of these) and could maybe point you to people with
  needed knowledge.

I'm sorry, but aren't we missing the entire point here? This is not
about bad handling of some Tibetan characters. It is about bad handling
 of 3-byte UTF-8 characters.

 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UTF-8

So, the following characters should have the same problems,

 ऄक

 ঈউঊ

 ਜਗਏ

 ଜଁଂ

 ஔ

 ంఁః

 ಂಖ

 ഈഃ

 etc..

I've put a Ascii in front of all the different characters. In emacs,
I'm able to select the in front of these characters and copy it. vim
under a UTF-8 gnome terminal also allows the to be selected. The 2nd
last line above (using icedove), I can't independently select the but
I can select the and ಂ together and then remove the 2nd character.

Maybe it is just my misunderstanding of UTF-8, I'm not sure. But at
least my expected behaviour was being able to select 1 UTF-8 character
at a time, even if linguistically it does not make any sense.

The Tibetan code in this case, U+0FA1 is NOT a character. It's a Tibetan
code for combining with other Tibetan codes to form a Tibetan character.
Unicode code points do not necessarily represent characters. Selecting
combined character is more expected than selecting its sub-parts (even
when it's possible).

This issue is about handling Unicode combining. In this case, Pango
interprets a quote mark () and U+0FA1 Tibetan code (wrong combination)
as one combined character. I'm not sure whether it's a defined behavior.

Bug#457137: installation-guide: Korean PDF build with the new ko.tex fonts

2007-12-19 Thread Changwoo Ryu
Package: installation-guide
Severity: wishlist

The Korean TeX upstream authors decided to drop the old fonts
(latex-hangul-ucs-hlatex package) and released new macros/fonts.

So, this patch uses that new ko.tex fonts (ko.tex-base package)
instead of the old ones. Currently ko.tex-base package is in sid and
lenny.

Bug#462025: latex-cjk-korean: uses deprecated HLaTeX fonts

2008-01-21 Thread Changwoo Ryu
Package: latex-cjk-korean
Version: 4.7.0+git20070708-1
Tags: upstream

HLaTeX macros and fonts are to be removed (when they are ready), because
it's not maintained in upstream and a replacement exists (ko.tex)..

It should not be difficult to move cjk to ko.tex. The ko.tex fonts are
just reorganization of HLaTeX fonts.

Bug#417324: linux-2.6: UTF-8 is the system-wide default encoding in Debian but kernel's filesystem modules use ISO-8859-1

2008-01-30 Thread Changwoo Ryu
Is there any chance to fix this in lenny?

The current Debian default GNOME desktop does NOT correctly handle this,
in every non-latin environment I think.

In my (ko_KR.UTF-8) environment, non-ASCII filenames in removeable media
don't be displayed correctly. And if I create a non-ASCII named file in
such media, the file can't be read in MS-Windows.

Bug#299841: moniwiki: please describe how to use it

2005-03-16 Thread Changwoo Ryu
Package: moniwiki
Version: 1.0.9-4
Severity: important

I'm also a moniwiki user so I know moniwiki is not a good software to
package; unlike moinmoin, moniwiki can't make multiple instances, with
the same system-wide installed software.

Then you can make a choice. you can either improve moniwiki to allow
multiple instances or make it only one-system-wide blog site software.

But you did nothing but in README.Debian you just wrote See
http://moniwiki.sf.net/wiki.php/MoniWiki/Installation;. But with this
moniwiki package installed, the web page doesn't help at all in this
case. (1) There is no hack so no multiple instances are allowed (2) and
owner/permissions/directory are wrong if you chose system-wide blog site.
(/usr/share is read-only)

I doubt how you are using moniwiki with this package. Please describe
your way to use it in README.Debian, if any.

Bug#297659: Please make the first Description: line brief. and fix a typo

2005-03-16 Thread Changwoo Ryu
Sorry for the late reply. I'd like to sponsor these package.

Before that, a few things to mention:

Per the policy 3.4.1, the synopsis line (which is the first line of
Description) should be kept brief, under 80 characters

http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-binary.html#s-synopsis

Please make these short descriptions shorter. Currently they are 120
characters.

And s/Simplefied/Simplified/ in the descriptions.

Bug#89703: more infos about Compose file

2005-04-16 Thread Changwoo Ryu
I finally found this ooold bug still open...

I don't see which informations needed more. But let me try to explain
more:

The Compose file (and Xlib) provides some kind of a simple input method,
usually for iso8859-* users like a method with dead key (various accents
like umlauts, cedilla, etc.). But CJK inputs are too complex to be done
with the Compose file and Xlib. They are usually done by a separate XIM
server.

But the problem is, Compose file always has higher priority than XIM,
unless XMODIFIERS environment variable is defined. This means all CJK
users have to set their own XMODIFIERS environment variable in xsession
or like to use any XIM server.

Gentoo recently removed the Compose files in CJK locales:

Bug#237675: [UTF-8] patch for dselect UTF-8 support

2005-03-02 Thread Changwoo Ryu
If the patch is too long to be accepted for now, how about starting
with replacing libncurses5 with libncursesw5? Just replacing, without
touching other things, is also useful.

The only problem is that libncursesw5 is not in base... but
after sarge all programs can be replaced.

 Hi!

 I purged hlatex-fonts-{base,extra} first, but
 /etc/texmf/updmap.d/10hlatex-fonts-{base,extra} remained. Purging hlatex
 didn't solve the situation either.

I'm not sure why this happens; perhaps you've built the package with a buggy
 version of dh_installtex?

Could you check version 1.0.1-5?

It does not happen anymore for me.

 them soon.

I suggest you to see ko-tex-base packages. ko.tex will soon replace
long-unmaintained HLaTeX. I believe that it's not so difficult to make
cjklatex use ko.tex instead of HLaTeX. ko.tex fonts are just
reorganization of the HLaTeX fonts.

 It's not a plugin. Just a library.

Let me explain more. Libhangul is just a library implementing a few of
the Korean keyboard input algorithms. (computing precomposing/output
characters according to the input keys, handling Hanja conversion, etc.)

This library itself doesn't provide plugin system and it doesn't have
to. Rather other IM's Hangul plugins can be linked to this library.
The upstream author wrote many different kinds of Hangul input methods
(GTK+ module, XIM server, SCIM plugin, IIIMF plugin) and this library is
an effort to abstract the common code among his input method softwares.

The tarball is libhangul-x.y.tar.gz and the soname is libhangul.so.0. I
can't think of any better name.

Bug#413305: O: ami

Package: wnpp

I orphan ami package, as few people use it now and I don't use it.

Most Korean users I know already switched to other (and much better) Korean
IMs. It has problems like dependency on GTK+ 1.x. And the most serious
problem is that upstream is almost dead.

Information about this package:

 Package: ami
 Version: 1.2.3-2
 Section: x11
 Priority: optional
 Architecture: i386
 Depends: libc6 (= 2.3.5-1), libgdk-pixbuf2 (= 0.22.0), libglib1.2 (=
1.2.0), libgtk1.2 (= 1.2.10-4), libx11-6
 Installed-Size: 1264
 Maintainer: Changwoo Ryu [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Description: An X input method server for Korean text input
Ami is an X input method server for Korean text input.
  .
Hangul or Hanja Korean text can be input with Ami, which
responds the requests from XIM compliant applications.
  .
In this package, Ami has been built as a standalone version and a
  WindowMaker dock.

2007-04-13 (금), 16:50 +0200, Christian Perrier 쓰시길:
 Quoting trand ([EMAIL PROTECTED]):
  Package: fontconfig-config
  Version: 2.4.2-1.2
  Severity: wishlist

For korean font, ttf-baekmuk is almost dead.
development is stop, people don't use it.

Please note that I am not the fontconfig maintainer. I just happen to
be subscribed to the package's PTS and saw your bug report.

As you suggest this, it seems to me that D-I should probably stop
installing ttf-baekmuk when the installation language is Korean.

 The korean-desktop task currently installs:

 Packages-list:
  imhangul
  nabi
  ttf-unfonts
  imhangul-status-applet
  iceweasel-l10n-ko
  xfonts-baekmuk
  ttf-baekmuk
  openoffice.org-help-ko
  openoffice.org-l10n-ko
  kde-i18n-ko

So, ttf-unfonts are already installed and, if this is what you
 suggest, we could remove ttf-baekmuk.

What about xfonts-baekmuk? Should they be dropped from there also?

It depends on what our default desktop looks like.

While ttf-unfonts is a much better choice in antialiased environment
(GNOME/KDE) or for printing, it's almost unusable in non-antialiased
environment (ie. traditional X apps). That's why baekmuk is used in
bf-utf-source, while ttf-unfonts is used for G-I. If we can just ignore
such traditional apps in the default desktop installation, it's ok to
drop ttf-baekmuk and xfonts-baekmuk.

Bug#462253: deprecated HLaTeX

 Hi,

Can you suggest patch to korean part?
I do not think ko.tex is enough.

Please suggest what should happen here:
 /usr/share/perl5/DebianDoc_SGML/Locale/ko_KR.*/*

How about just dropping Korean tex support?

Currently Korean tex output doesn't work, even with its dependent old
HLaTeX. Nobody has noticed its breakage for a long time. So I doubt it's
worth to fix it. The only known Korean debiandoc-sgml document is the
new maintainer's guide which was translated years ago.

Bug#367047: debian nabi package

2006-06-01 Thread Changwoo Ryu

2006-05-13 (토), 12:27 +0900, Mike McCormack 쓰시길:
 Package: nabi
 Version: 0.15-2

The nabi package for AMD64/unstable seems to look in
/usr/local/share/nabi for its data instead of /usr/share/nabi... so it
 doesn't work so well.

I can work around the issue with:

 cd /usr/local/share
 ln -s /usr/share/nabi

 Mike

Hi,

While searching the buildd amd64 build log, I have not found
any /usr/local. -DNABI_DATA_DIR is normally /usr/share/nabi.

http://buildd.debian.org/fetch.php?pkg=nabiver=0.15-2arch=amd64stamp=1143206875file=logas=raw

I have no amd64 machine so I can't test it myself, but I think there's
no portability issue which makes this path different. Could you find
which point caused your problem, in the code?

write it yourself or was it available somewhere? I think we do need
to know this for copyright reasons. It would probably be good to add
an explicit copyright comment at the top of the document.

It was written by Dohyun Kim, the upstream author of latex-hangul-ucs.
He just wrote it when I requested for help building d-i manual PDF, and
later I modified a bit to make it clean.

I'll ask him for copyright stuffs.

Here is the updated patch with copyright comment inserted by Dohyun Kim.

 Thanks.

One problem. If I try to build a Korean PDF (after installing
latex-hangul-ucs of course), I get endless errors:

Ah.. I was wrong. It's latex-hangul-ucs-hlatex package to depend on,
not latex-hangul-ucs.

Attached updated patch again.

AFAICS the reject reason (copyright file) has been corrected in the svn.

I don't think it is a security issue.

The upstream just missed a function declaration for this new API.

I don't think it is a security issue.

Nobody said it's a security issue.

The upstream just missed a function declaration for this new API.

Which will cause a crash on 64bit architectures (and a ftbfs on ia64),
 hence the serious severity.

Note that it is a library API function, newly introduced in this
version. Currently no program is using this function. So no program
crashes.

I agree it is FTBFS, serious severity. But note that it failed by the
python filter, not by the natural build process.

 Thanks for reporting this bug.

Since I don't use Korean myself, I have to ask -- which font, in your
opinion, should scim-hangul depend on? Or both?

I'm not sure. Does scim-hangul refer a specific font in ttf-unfonts?

If not, and if what scim-hangul needs is just a generic Korean fonts, I
think ttf-unfonts can be removed from Suggests. Tasksel is already doing
this job.

Bug#473060: tomboy: Built *.server file doesn't have all the translations

2008-03-27 Thread Changwoo Ryu
Package: tomboy
Version: 0.10.0-1
Severity: normal

*** Please type your report below this line ***

In the most non-English environment, Tomboy Notes and the long
description are shown as untranslated strings in the applet list.

In /usr/lib/bonobo/servers/GNOME_TomboyApplet.server file:

oaf_attribute name=name type=string value=Tomboy Notes/
oaf_attribute name=[EMAIL PROTECTED] type=string value=Natatki
Tomboy/
oaf_attribute name=name-es type=string value=Tomboy/
oaf_attribute name=description type=string value=Simple and easy
to use note-taking/
oaf_attribute name=description-bn type=string value=নোট করতে
সাধারণ ও সহজ উপায়/
oaf_attribute name=description-lt type=string value=Paprasta ir
lengvai naudojama užrašinė/
oaf_attribute name=description-nl type=string value=Eenvoudig en
snel notities maken/
oaf_attribute name=description-th type=string
value=บันทึกข้อความสะดวกใช้/

It has only incomplete merged translations, while the source tree has
more.

The ubuntu package has the correct *.server file. So I believe this is
the debian package build problem, buggy intltool-merge or like.

Bug#473060: intltool-merge cache problem

2008-03-28 Thread Changwoo Ryu
It seems to be an intltool bug about its cache handling. During build
[1], intltool-merge command prints warning,

Odd number of elements in hash assignment at ../intltool-merge line
374.

Removing -c option from intltool-merge command line fixes this bug.

Bug#614945: gnome-shell: does not start due to missing accessibility key in the settings shema

2011-02-25 Thread Changwoo Ryu
Upgrading gsettings-desktop-schemas from 0.1.5-1 to 0.1.7-2 fixes it.

Perhaps gnome-shell or one of its dependencies should depend on higher
version of gsettings-desktop-schemas?

No I had that problem with gsettings-desktop-schemas 0.1.7-2

But I upgraded gnome-shell to 2.91.90-1 this morning, which solved the
problem, so I close this bug.

 Thanks,

Actually I had this problem after upgrading gnome-shell to 2.91.90-1.
