I occasionally see the same on Thinkpad X220 too. You don't need to
shut down the machine in that case, pressing Ctrl-C is sufficient to
interrupt udev and continue to boot. And I see the same messages about
killing stuck modprobe, will confirm next time it happens.

Hi Michael,
I just wanted to check whether you had better luck using
ipw3945/ipw3945d with newer versions of the kernel and/or driver. Does
the daemon still hang when kill switch is on?
Best regards,

first time it is happening, and it reflects badly on the team as a
whole.

, and I'm painfully aware of most of them. Please make no
mistake, I greatly appreciate your work processing the bug reports.
It's just if you are not happy doing it, taking it out on the users
seems to be the worst imaginable way to make any progress.

breath arguing about it, the best thing I can do is tag this bug
wontfix, in hope that the debian-installer people will be able to
provide some alternative solution.

/tulip_patch.diff
This problem has been known for a while, and this patch is not a valid
solution (see the discussion in bug 334104). As a workaround you can
blacklist the tulip module from loading by doing:
echo 'blacklist tulip' /etc/modprobe.d/tulip-blacklist
