according to your screenshot (why not posting directly as png...?),
you're not using gnome-panel, but unity.

Bug description:
The 'show desktop' button on the launcher is locked to being right
where the bfb (dash) button normally goes. That throws me a bit. Not
only that, but to me the show desktop button is not something I'm
going to want to use all that much compared with the dash but I do
like the option to have it and use it from the launcher.

The previous version of unity had the button appear below the switcher and
that seemed an apt place for it. Why not allow it to be moveable, via dragging,
and allow the user to place it any of the following locations:
  1. Before bfb
  2. After bfb
  3. before workplace shifter
  4. after workplace shifter
  5. before mounted items
  6. after mounted items.
  ?

So basically anywhere except between application icons.

I'd like to change the final two items in the keyboard layout

  match.

Flipping the order of the items and adjusting their names matches the
behavior in GNOME Shell GNOME Classic's default notification area.
(In fact I fixed that for GNOME Classic for Oneiric but realized too
late that the indicator wouldn't automatically get the improved text.)
GNOME actually uses ellipsis for the first item, but not the second
one which I believe is the opposite of what we want in Ubuntu.

  Before:
  Keyboard Preferences
  Show Current Layout

  After:
  Show Keyboard Layout
  Keyboard Layout Settings…

The keyboard layout indicator is hidden by default. To make it show:
In System Settings, click Keyboard Layout. Click the + button to add a second
layout.

This does not affect the Ubuntu docs, but would break translation
  freeze.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 965080] Re: Sticky Edge is neither obvious nor explained

2012-03-29 Thread Fitoschido
A replacement would be a checkbox like:

[x] Avoid my mouse cursor to be accidentally lost in another display

But I'm afraid that it's rather long, and anyway this setting is too
advanced to be shown in the place where it is. And note that I don't
fully understand the purpose of the Sticky Edges and what problem is
solving, so take the above checkbox only as an idea of a self-explaining
setting.

If Sticky Edge was a well-known term amongst people who use computer

  3. Click the button that appears in the navigation bar with the same name as
the panel (e.g. Appearance, Bluetooth, or Keyboard).

  What happens:
  2. The title of the panel is repeated unattractively in a button diagonally
below it.
  3. The button is clickable, but clicking it never does anything.

In combination with bug 933947, this means that no matter where you
are in System Settings, there is always a button that is clickable but
  does nothing.

The simplest solution would be to remove the button.

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: light-themes

As stated by Kenneth Wimer in Bug #534802, there is no need for a
visual separation between the title bar and the menu bar, as we can
now drag the windows from anywhere in these 2 bars (which now look
  like a single bar).

But when you double click on the title bar, it (un-)maximizes it. If
you double click on the menu bar... Nothing happen!

It is very confusing for users who now expect both thoses bars to
behave as one. In fact, many users will not see the difference between
the 2 bars, and will not understand why sometimes it doesn't work! It
  is not consistent at all.

I believe this is a big issue (and while users are not yet used to the
left position of the buttons, they might use this method to maximize
  their windows even more often).

Bug description:
In GTK applications menu items are not always highlighted on mouse
  over (orange background).

  12.04 - 20120307

When using touchpad, the menu items are not highlighted. When using a
USB mouse or TrackPoint the widgets are reacting properly.

  STR:
  1. Open nautilus
  2. Open the File menu, OR right-click in the window, OR open any of the
option menus inside the Preferences window.
  3. Move down through the menu using touchpad.
  4. Click on a sensitive menu item.

  Actual results:
  3. The first sensitive item is highlighted, but (usually) none of the other
sensitive items are.
  4. The item is highlighted only once you click it.

  Expected results:
  Highlight should follow the mouse

This is not specific to menu items.

  background:

  http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-art-pkg/light-
  themes/trunk/revision/184#Ambiance/gtk-3.0/gtk-widgets.css

I believe this change was unwise. It caused lots of rendering
problems in Shotwell, which uses a GtkDrawingArea without double
buffering to display open images. See

  http://redmine.yorba.org/issues/4715
  http://redmine.yorba.org/issues/4716

In Shotwell we can work around it by setting the background color of
our GtkDrawingArea explicitly. I nevertheless recommend that the
change be reverted since I think it may also break rendering in other
applications that draw using a non-double-buffered GtkDrawingArea.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 938076] Re: [UIFe]Auto-lock on suspend is still needed when encrypting file system

Hey! This is trivial but important: use a checkbox instead of a
GtkSwitch, since the switch is not aligned with anything on the screen
and accorging to Gnome HIG a checkbox is more appropiate in this cases.

I understand that encrypted file systems are an advanced system

  Hi there,

there are few bug reports similar to this one but from their
description I feel like this is a little different.

I use three different keyboard layouts, switching between them with
shortcut and having Allow different layouts for individual windows
option enabled. In this configuration layout switch should be
processed when shortcut is triggered or when I switch to another
window. Moreover to switch layout means two things. Firstly it means
to switch keyboard mappings themself and secondly to change what
  layout indicator shows.

The problem itself: mappings which is used is often not the same as
indicator shows. I experimented a little to find out what is wrong and
now I see that the mistake is in processing switch-window event which
always changes mappings used but doesn't refresh what indicator is
  showing...

Sometimes it's quite annoying as nearly all bugs reported here :)

Bug description:
Update 'desktop' menu so it is fully relevant to desktop
functionality. Currently there are two options in the 'desktop' menu
that are duplications of 12.04 launcher functionality. These are:

  - The 'Bookmarks' menu. This has now been replaced by the Nautilus quicklist
  - The New Window option in the File menu. Creation of new windows is
handled by the Launcher, and this label is not informative.

The request is to remove these two items from the 'desktop' menu
  before UI freeze.

Bug description:
Global menu in general (not only in Unity) is very unergonomic on
large screens (see the attached screenshot) because if you have a
small window somewhere near the low right corner you have to move the
cursor all the way up to to panel to reach the menu. I understand why
the global menu was used for the netbook edition (it saves space and
most windows are maximized), but since Unity is intended to be for the
desktop edition there should be an option to switch to the traditional
position of the app menu. It would be welcomed by many desktop users.

  A commonly suggested solution is:
   [ ] Global Menu on
   [ ] Global Menu off
[ ] Global Menu only for maximized windows
The default is usually suggested as either the first (on) or last (on only
for maximized windows).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 515978] Re: Network Disconnected -You are offline in Karmic Koala

2012-02-13 Thread Fitoschido
Thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu. Karmic reached EOL on April 30,
2011.
Please see this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

I've tried recreating this bug with Oneiric and was unable to, given the
information you've provided. Please either a) upgrade and test or b)
increase the verbosity of the steps to recreate it so we can try again.

Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

From when? : Before Jaunty we were using wvdial package to establish
connection then Jaunty was launched and we got gift as the network
manager was now recognising the device as Auto Mobile CDMA
Connection and establishing the the connection. But in Karmic this
bug ruined down the situation and Lucid is also carrying on with this
bug. I had tried it on VM to check whether or not the bug is fixed but
  again the same disappointment.

Effect: We are not able to use Empathy and many other apps which
check connection from network manager and most inconvenient thing is
to dial and disconnect manually with bit long waiting time. I don't
know where is the right place to inform this thing. But if you know
then please let me know so that I can put it over there.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 928762] Re: Theme and Launcher labels are hundreds of pixels away from their controls

2012-02-09 Thread Fitoschido
Right-aligned labels would solve this specific problem by setting them
nearer to its controls, as seen in the wireframe I'm attaching. But the
solution arises other problems: the 'Background' label seems out of
place, and the 'Launcher icon size' option seems to belong more in the
'Launcher' tab[1] (in the current implementation it's named 'Behavior').

[1]: I named the tabs 'General' and 'Launcher' following suggestion in
bug 928764.

  1. Open the Appearance panel of System Settings.
  2. Measure the distance between the Theme: label and menu.
  3. Measure the distance between the Launcher icon size: label and slider.

  What you should see:
  2. 12 pixels.
  3. 12 pixels.
Between labels and associated components, leave 12 horizontal pixels.

  What you actually see:
  2. 433 pixels.
  3. 319 pixels.

There are no opinions in this bug report.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 928764] Re: Look is a synonym of Appearance but used as a subset

2012-02-08 Thread Fitoschido
We translated look as «aspecto» (lit. 'aspect') in Spanish. It is,
indeed, synonym of appearance. I agree in the new wording suggested by
you, it seems more appropiate.

  1. Open the Appearance panel of System Settings.

What you see: Look and Behavior tabs.

This does not make sense in two ways:
  (1) Look is a synonym of appearance (see
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/look definition 19), but is presented
as if it is a subset of appearance. (This may also cause localization problems,
if the two labels are translated using the same word, or when a language does
not have two different words for this meaning.)
  (2) Behavior is, at first thought, not appearance.

The obvious way to fix this is to move the launcher size control to
the second tab, rename the first tab General, and the second
  Launcher'.

the picture? For me, it does not change the picture view. Maybe is and
effect in the human eye?

Could you post a screenshot?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 844081] Re: Unity Greeter - Background of the Unity Greeter should reflect the background chosen by the user that is currently selected

2012-01-19 Thread Fitoschido
@Afzal, comment #36: Mark Shuttleworth is not the CEO of Canonical ;-)

And why whould we complicate our life? Simply don't pick an innapropiate
wallpaper, go back to the roots, no need to add more settings...

I don't quite understand why some users are always complaining about
features added or removed, because they can always change the defaults
and, for example, install another greeter or display manager.

Sorry, but commenting in a closed bug report is not that helpful.
Discuss this in Ayatana mailing list and don't spam bug subscribers. In
any case, I consider this feature a nice touch, and it is just days old,
let it be and maybe you'll discover that you like it ;-)

What you see: A series of dots, followed by Previous and Next buttons.

What you should see: Clickable overlapping parts of the banners

It's a little more elegant if navigation between elements is done by
