Hi
I'm new to SB. I just got my first SB Classic. My music folder consists
of over 20,000 flac files ripped from many CD's. many of them recorded
in different volume level. I was just wondering if it is possible to do
volume normalization using the SB? or maybe create a play-list with

Yes tag the files with replay gain tags using for example foobar 2000
Then there is player settings in squeezeboxserver on how and if you
want to use this. Default thisa funtion is of.
Using RG tags does not affect the music on the file it's only a tag
that tells SBS (or any other player) how
If you haven't done so already, you can use foobar2000 or other software
to write replay gain tags to your FLAC files. Usually you want it to
write both album gain and track gain (as well as album peak and track
peak) tags. Then on the Squeezebox you can control whether or not

Thank you all. I found those settings. I just wonder if you can
recommend an alternative software to edit gain tags to flac files.
Foobar2000 for some reason results in an overall fixed but attenuated
gain to all files. I'm kind of confused on how the gain tags are set.
i have flac files ripped
I can't measure it but it much warmer than bodytemp, but not hot. So I
gues its normal.
Thanks for al your replies

In that case you want to use track gain with SB. Sometimes it is called

I know that some modernly mastered CD's' especially of cheap pop music
use too much dynamic compression in order to achieve higher volume

How did you go about getting the squeezebox to route through the vpn?

I got it. in Foobar2000 preferences there is an option to change target
gain. default is indeed 89db. I'm guessing this means SPL @ 1W from 1
meter assuming ideal speakers (theoretically infinite sensitivity
speakers). Im not sure how this value refers to bit depth. I can only
assume

Do it in one pass, not two passes.

Finally, I hope that you were only speaking loosely when you referred
to 'IDtags' in your files. Tags for FLAC files should be Vorbis

I think 'ID Tag' is a generic term used by some software for any type
of metadata tag. I've noticed dbpoweramp

Then you can give it whatever name you want.
Did you use favorites or presets on the boom ?
Just holding a number saves it as preset not a favorite then you cant
edit it in
