I found power cycling the router in the morning before starting up the

There should be, but currently there seems to be a problem preventing it
from finishing the build. The latest you can get is

the Slimserver. I get this message: Starting Slimserver failed. Please
see the event viewer and contact support. I'm running Windows XP and

Thanks for the suggestions. I knew it wasn't the XP firewall because I
removed it and still had no access to the outside world. I also
plugged in a spare router I had lying around that had no security
enabled and still no luck.
What finally worked was completely uninstalling the SS software

I was having a very similar problem after upgrading from 6.3.1. to 6.5.1
- everything looked like it was working, including a lot of blinking
lights on my router and switch, but no sound. Tried the socketwrapper
fix and we're back in business. Thanks ChrisNY!

Keep both FLAC - FLAC (built-in) checked as well as FLAC - WAV. That
way your SB3 will use its native FLAC decoder, meaning you get
bandwidth savings as well as FF/REW capability, but your SB1 will get
FLAC transcoded to WAV.
The SB1 hits the FLAC - FLAC (built-in) conversion, which it doesn't

my router and slim server).
Don't have LAME encoder. Are you thinking that may be required to
transcode the flac and ape files? Didn't use to be an issue be perhaps
there are licensing issues since my last SS upgrade?
Do you have a copy of flac.exe somewhere on your PC?
Also do you have a copy of lame.exe?
You may want to put these in your SlimServer\server folder or in
Windows\system32.

would like to use MM as the interface to choose songs to play etc. but
obviously control the squeezebox with slimserver. Is this possible.

My SB3 has worked fine for about 12 months. Over last few days has been
droping connection to SN and SS.
Now I cannot connect to either SN or SS. The SB3 finds my wireless
network and reports that it has connected and then fails to assign an
IP address - reports that cannot find the DHCP
Maybe you have a new source of wireless interference, which is
reinforced by the fact that the problem goes away when you switch to
wired.

I have my SB3 next to my wirless router while I try to resolve this
problem - reports 98-100%
AFAIK, the LAME Tag is pretty useless for Replaygain. I suggest that
you create the Replaygain tags with Foobar, because I would not even
trust the LAME ones enough to copy them. You will also save some
encoding time by turning off Replaygain in LAME.

consistent?
Is the key consistent? It is a pain in the butt to enter the key
manually and a typo or trailing space will make a difference.

It depends which is broken.
My router dies periodically. Rebooting the SB won't fix it.
(Though in my case, the local network, including wireless, is still
fine... it usually dies in such a way as to make getting off the local

The other way I use when I want to make absolutely sure I get a clean
scan is to delete the cache directory under the Slimserver parent
directory. You do need to shut down Slimserver before you delete the
