I'm running on an old Athlon with 512mb, and like Kevin a scan takes around 15 mins. Playback usually isn't affected, I certainly don't have any players losing contact. This is with a library of 9,500 tracks (~150gb of flac vorbis). One thing - try disabling the anti-virus. If you have it set
