I don't believe that the SlimServer does that out of the box. It normally only scans on demand. It is shipped with a plug in that can schedule a rescan once a day. Have you installed the AutoRecan plugin. This plugin does what you describe in that it rescans everytime you add or change

Sorry, Squeezebox absolutely needs a copy of slimserver to talk to. You can use whatever player you like to send audio to your computer's audio out, and then use one of the various available kludges to catch that and send it though slimserver to the SB, if you really want to. Or you could
