[slim] Itunes Squeezebox server on Ubuntu Nas - will this setup work??
Hi, I have my Squeezebox server running on a Ubuntu nas setup, and my itunes running on a win 7 pc My music library and itunes folder are on my PC, with backup software putting a copy of everything on my nas when changes are noticed. I have been trying to set up the itunes integration of Squeezebox server but am having no luck importing music files and especially playlists (which is what i primarily want to import) So, on my nas which is running the server is a copy of all my itunes music and xml files. I have tried point the Itunes plugin to these files on the nas, and although i see a reference to Itunes playlist import when doing a scan, it takes 0 seconds and nothing shows up in the playlists on the squeezebox. I have tried having nothing in the 'music folder' field in basic settings and setting a direct link to the music folder in the itunes plugin, but this results in a no library being configured, and not scan being able to take place. any ideas if this is possible at all? -- colincliff colincliff's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=36572 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=75924 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

I have also tried taking ownership of the itunes library xml file on the nas as ubuntu saw it as owned by nobody, as did the music folder with the mp3s in. Re: [slim] Transporter, what do I need to use it?
yes, transporter would output directly to your integrated preamp/amp. You'll need a computer at home running SqueezeboxServer (SbS) (with access to the drive with your music files). And you'll need a Local Area Network so that you can connect the transporter to the LAN either wired or wireless. Best situation is that both the transporter and the computer with SbS are wired to your LAN. 2nd best is that computer with SbS is wired to LAN (router) and Transporter is WIFI. WIFI can work really well if you have strong signal, etc. You might also want to explore using FLAC (lossless) rather than WAV. Much better for tagging, etc., takes 1/2 the space, and is still LOSSLESS. And Squeezebox plays these natively. -- garym garym's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17325 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=75928 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

So while you'd get deluged with nonstop bluegrass on the Bluegrass station, the eclectic station would mix one bluegrass song followed by a folk or jazz tune. Well, I think that depends on the 'distribution'. It could be anything like e.g.: 95% users with reasonably speedy servers (like my 1.5Ghz 7 year old Athlon) would have 0.5% timeouts And 5% users would have 90% timeouts. Plus you will see those clustered around: - people browsing by Genre since this query is incredibly slow... wait: do you support Genres at all, can't remember right now. Yes, but the thing is, when you browse via genre-artist-album, the queries become much faster, because they return only few items. Now that I think about it: It's actually impossible to give a fail rate. So my 5% ballpark was pretty ignorant. My approach was the following: Every query is divided in chunks of n elements. And I chose n so that (in my environment) each chunk response returns with 1-2 seconds. And the timeout is 10 sec. Maybe it's better to interpret the 5% like so: In 5% of all thinkable use-cases will a query fail. in 95% it will not fail. so it will never fail for the average user (never := 0.0001 % e.g.) Maybe we should talk about this on the phone. It seems to be on your mind too :-) Remember the 80/20 rule? Re: [slim] SlimCtrl 1.3 out now
Thank you. I have tried 1.33 a bit. The timeout issue in albums has been solved. But there are some issues. It still shows the artist, when it's Various artists. It never loads the artist at a later time. I hade the impression that it would load that infomation later just like the album artwork. Year is load loaded at all. (I don't care much about that) New music is still using the old query and times out. The album-list in artist X still times out. All tracks from artist X also times out after approx. 180 tracks. I don't understand the need for a 10 second timeout for the indexing. As long as I can see the counter going up, I'm content. And it's only on the first listing. Subsequently the lists are there instantly Idea: Make indexing start in the background as soon as SlimCtrl starts. Or make it possible to trigger a reindexing without timeout from the settings-pane. You can use the starting folder option as long as you use the drive letter specified in the remote options screen. This drive letter must be mapped on the machine you run ACC on to the music share. Re: [slim] Squeezebox Command structure??
What do you mean with command structure? The menus? I don't think there is a fixed listing, because you can enable, disable, and rearrange items in the home menu, and plugins can add their own menu entries anywhere in the tree. So you will have to figure out what fits your particular setup. But if you mean something else, feel free to ask again. -- usch usch's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=33389 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=75937 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Squeezebox Command structure??
Thanks for the reply. I really didn't know that I could delete things or move stuff around. I assumed that the plugins would change the items in the structure. What I was thinking was something like Go to now playing -- easy enough. then enter a single number to go to one of the items in the submenu - enter a right command, and then a number for the appropriate item in the next submenu. ETC!!! From what you say it appears that I can move items around and/or delete them -- which changes the items to chosen, obviously. I can certainly make up my own decision tree and being able to edit sub.menus will help quite a bit. Now -- where do I get the information about editing those menus? My experience was with the Duet, where things could be added or dropped from the home menu, but now that I am using a SB Classic I don't recall seeing any specific information about such editing -- or is it all done thru the server? Re: [slim] Squeezebox Command structure??
If you're using Squeezebox Server, look in the SBS web ui Settings Player Menus. On mysqueezebox.com, use Players Menus. -- aubuti aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=75937 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Squeezebox Command structure??
Though it seems to me is not that you want to have a macro to simulate a half dozen button presses which will change if you ever redo your menus... or if other menus (like those provided by XM) change. It sounds more like you want to have custom actions occur based on some IR code. Ie, IR code XYZZY would start a given XM radio station. In the trivial case cited there, it's just set the station to be a favorite, then send the code to activate that favorite -- snarlydwarf snarlydwarf's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1179 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=75937 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
[slim] MusicIP not functioning again - Windows 7
I've just installed Windows 7 on my machine and I can't get SqueezeServer to import the MusicIP stuff. All is on one machine (library, MusicIP, SqueezeServer) Music IP starts automatically as a windows service and works fine on port 10002 (the test in the gui settings confirms this). My library appears to be fine and MusicIP database also appears to be fine (all my music has MIP tags written to them too). None of the services listed in MusicIP Mixer/Preferences/Services are selected. SqueezeServer MusicIP plugin is set to port 10002. I've tried full SS rescans and re-installed MusicIP (1.9b6) but to no avail. It used to work fine on XP. Is there some difference with Windows 7 (I have disabled the firewall if it is of any interest)? I don't think I've forgotten any settings (but can't be completely sure). Any help appreciated. I'm missing it. Re: [slim] browser tab should include SBS name
Do you just mean the HTML page title in the web interface? That would be helpful, both for the main window and the settings window. I also wouldn't mind seeing it within the body of web pages, where it could be listed in full. In a browser tab or on the taskbar, you may only see a small truncated part of the server name. -- JJZolx Jim JJZolx's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=75942 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
