In this circumstance MySB.com only.

Has this ability to access the players via phone app + mobile phone

[slim] Accessing my SB players remotely via mobile network ?

2021-03-04 Thread swayzak

Hello

I'm probably being very dim here, but I discovered this week (having
used SB's for 10 years !) that I can control my players via my phone's
mobile network (not just with my home network).

Accidently launched Squeeze Cntrl on my S9 in shop at work, and turned
our kitchen Boom on (whilst the missus was home schooling the kids
).

Good to learn new things !

[slim] Cross referencing 2 large music collections ?

2016-09-11 Thread swayzak

Hello

My main music collection died last night (on a WD USB hard drive - one
drop too many !).

I have a double back up of this (another USB HD & an external,
AC-powered HD), but this has been done manually over the years so am
uncertain as to how accurate the backups are.

Is there an easy way to cross reference these collections, to ensure the
maximum number of folders/files are restored to the new drive (hopefully
without any missing) ? e.g. to find which files (if any) are absent from
either drive that are present on the other...

[slim] Boom on top of subwoofer - isolation needed ?

However I'm concerned that this may not ne the best arrangement

Have followed instructions for both triode and bpa plugins.

After quite a few enforced restarts by LMS, both appear in the list of
plugins on Settings page.

Are they somehow integrated into the single BBC app that's listed in
my Squeezecommander Android app (as I can't see any other BBC apps
listed) ? This app lists many bbc channels (mostly 128 kbps) - is this
correct ? No HLS listed.

Re: [slim] Running Duet receiver or Touch via ethernet ?

2015-03-11 Thread swayzak

Thanks again - but I am really struggling with setting up the Duet
system to play from LMS 7.9 on the laptop via ethernet.

I've tried a Duet factory reset but can't seem to force it to use
ethernet - I only got the option once in many screens of setting up on
the Controller, and then it didn't connect.

I *have* finally managed by trial and error got it to connect to LMS via
router's wifi network, netow but this is not really what I want. The
Touch is definitely a lot easier to setup for ethernet than the Duet !

I give some more detail of the setup and hopefully one of you kind folk
will talk me through how to get this to work ...

Home wifi = mynetwork, autochannel
Router wifi = O2network, channel 3

Ethernet cables running from both laptop Receiver into the router.

Tried disabling wifi in laptop to force LMS connection to be ethernet
only, but couldn't get Duet to connect.

Re-enabled laptop wifi connected to O2network, and also selected
this in Controller as network to connect to. This has finally got the
Receiver to connect to LMS and it's working fine now.

But how do force the Receiver to connect via ethernet ??

Re: [slim] Running Duet receiver or Touch via ethernet ?

2015-03-10 Thread swayzak

Thanks again for the idea of using my old router - got things working
perfectly tonight !

However I am slightly confused want to make sure I get this as robust
as possible (to minimise risk of disaster on the night).

I plugged both the Touch laptop into router via ethernet (but the
router wifi is still enabled). I then set Networking in Touch to
ethernet and it seemed to link up OK. Both wifi ethernet were still
enabled in the laptop. This method seemed to cause problems e.g. Touch
seemed to show playlist correctly but always said stopped at the top
no sound.

I then disabled the wifi in laptop to try and force it use ethernet only
(although I assumed it would use ethernet by default anyway given the
choice), reconnected Touch via Networking to Touch and it works great.

However it would be great to able to control the tunes via
Squeezecommander on my phone during event, so I then re-enabled wifi on
laptop, connected laptop phone to router wifi SSID - and this works
great.

Is it stable to have laptop both wifi enabled ethernet connected to
router ? I am a bit concerned that the hotel wifi environment will no be
as controlled as my house I might channel interference etc. to muck up
remote control ?

Also, will the connection between laptop server / router / Touch remain
via ethernet even though wifi is enabled in laptop / router / Touch ?

Basically I want the stability of ethernet for laptop-router-Touch
connection, and also ability to control playback via wifi with phone
...

Hope that makes sense !

Wirelessly, with static IP addresses set in router software.

So with this wired set up via router intranet, when I turn the laptop

I did eventually set fixed IPs up as it seemed to stabilise Duet

with dynamically allocated IP addresses - maybe they would be more
resilient, as I gather they have a more stable overall network
performance than the Duet).

[slim] Is it possible to edit root drive letter for an m3u playlist ?

2015-02-17 Thread swayzak

Hi

I've just created an m3u playlist (with FB2K) which references my
library on USB HD E:\

I then realised that the laptop I will be using for up coming event has
duplicate library on USB HD F:\

Doh.

So I have changed the drive letter of event laptop USB HD music library
to same as netbook (on which I created the playlist) e.g. E:\

I assume this should work OK ?

However the drive previously allocated to E: on the event laptop is the
CD/DVD drive (which I have now changed to H:) - but there is quite
extensive software installed on this laptop, some of which was installed
from CDs/DVDs when the drive letter was E: I suspect this will cause
issues should I need to insert these discs again ?

So basically is there a clever way you can change the root drive of an
m3u playlist, or will I have to recreate it manually on the event laptop
(should I want to change the CD/DVD drive back to E: again) ?

Thanks

Re: [slim] Setting up LMS Win 8 netbook server to switch on automatically ?

2014-04-23 Thread swayzak

This looks very promising - already shutdown the server netbook from my
mobile phone. Cool !

The settings page looks quite intimidating though.

I think to begin with I would just like to be able to
Sleep/Hibernate/Shutdown the server netbook from within
SqueezeCommander. Any tips as to how to do this e.g. plugin settings,
Windows Power settings ?

I guess Hibernate is the least energy-consuming state - can I send
netbook to Hibernate at bedtime, then reboot in the morning from my
phone ? Or would I have to use Sleep for this ?

[slim] Setting up LMS Win 8 netbook server to switch on automatically ?

2014-04-20 Thread swayzak

Hi

I have always turned my LMS laptop manually, but it has occurred to me
that maybe I can utilise sleep/wakeup function of Windows to make things
a bit more sophisticated than this.

At the moment I have set up Windows power options (and LMS server) to
not enter sleep mode to avoid interruption of music.

Ideally it would wakeup early morning and go back to sleep either after
an hour (workday) or later in the evening at bedtime (weekends).

Any advice ?

Thanks

[slim] Alternatives to LastFM available for the Boom in UK ?

2014-04-05 Thread swayzak

I am still grieving but slowly coming terms with loss of LastFM device
streaming.

I can still scrobble via LMS and PC at work.

More specifically now, are there good radio services available (with
some form of smart playlist function) for me to use instead on the Boom
via MySB.com ?

I've looked at Spotify and it is not really suitable, mainly as it's not
available on Boom via MySBMySB.com.

[slim] End of Last FM streaming for Squeezebox - alternatives (for use in UK) ?

I guess all good things come to an end end of April - LastFM has been

this correct ? Is there any way I can use it on my Booms via MySB.com

[slim] Switching to MySB.com remotely cannot be done ?

2014-03-02 Thread swayzak

Hi

Here is the situation..

Player (Touch) is connected to LMS. Then everything is turned off.

Next day turn on Touch (but not LMS) and want to connect to MySB.com.

This has to be done by selecting connect to MySB.com on the player
itself and cannot be done via remote app (eg. SqueezeCommander) as
player is not listed on player select screen.

Is this a fundamental issue related to how the Squeezebox environment
works or am I missing something ?

Re: [slim] Extended wifi network - use same channel ?

2014-02-13 Thread swayzak

Well touch wood, my network has been better since moving over to
different channels.

I guess, despite being the same SSID / password, the 2 networks are
different physical networks which a device has to link to communicate
through. And defined by the SSID, not the channel number as you say.

Avoiding shared channels with your neighbours (to minimise interference
issues) would also apply to this situation ?

There's probably a similar iOS app

That's exactly what I use already - and obviously showed very strong
signals from both my networks on the same channel number. If different
devices are connected to the separate networks (despite sharing same
SSID/password) then I would suspect interference could be an issue.

Now the strong signals are on different channels (1 6), and this also
seems to dissuade neighbours from sharing these channels (I assume at
least some of there routers are set to auto channel select) - these
seem to piling up on channel 11 now.

[slim] My Cambridge Audio A3i amp has just died - advice on replacement please ...

2014-02-05 Thread swayzak

Hi

Well it just gone and died.

Have done a quick search - saw the Marantz PM6005, which seems promising
.. with good onboard DAC for price, but maybe bit under-powered ?

Would this give me suitable power for my Cerwin-Vega AT-60s ? They are
pretty sensitive so would suspect so.

But might use new amp for AV near my TV, which is running through Eltax
Symphony 8.2 speakers (and move current AV analogue amp, Marantz PM66-SE
to hifi..).

Am a little ambivalent about digital amp, but have Squeezebox Touch's at
both AV area hifi, which can output 24 bit / 192 (does that really
sound much better than good analogue ?).

Advice please

Thanks

[slim] Please help me get internet access back on XP !

2013-12-24 Thread swayzak

Hi

I have Win XP SP3 on Asus P5K-E/WIFI-AP m/board with Intel E8400 4 GB
DDR 800.

Yesterday I used Windows Update (as usual) to download latest updates -
both critical optional).

Since then I can get no internet whatsoever ! All browsers just give
non-connected screens.

The WiFi network icon appears to show full connection (including
internet), but there is no real internet connection.

Ethernet is normally disabled on this machine ( I note that one of the
hardware updates was an Ethernet driver).

I've tried repairing the connection but this doesn't help.

Any ideas ?

If you're interested, you can configure your laptop to wake up in the

time and type in LMS web (Settings Advanced Rescan Music Library),
and use 'WakeupOnStandBy' (http://www.dennisbabkin.com/wosb/) to resume
your PC a minute before the scheduled scan. You can have this happen
every night or less often depending on how you configure WOSB.

Cool - thanks for the tip.

IIRC (you'll need to confirm), you can force LMS to pick up

If you try this, please post back here with results.

BTW, my library is of similar size to yours and a full rescan takes ~20
minutes. Server is Atom-based, Win XP. LMS is 7.7.2.

20 mins for clear cache / complete rescan ?? Can't explain that
discrepancy (I'm on HP i5 Win7 laptop with library on 500GB WD USB HD).

Have now found that FB2K can batch embed art, just by right clicking on
selected folder(s).

Occasionally Commander shows missing artwork for albums that list it
correctly in the Logitech controller app.

Last night I selected the Clear Cache option in Commander and this
seemed to fix it.

I also noted the Auto Prefetch Artwork option in Commander's Cover Art
Settings menu. What does this do ? Should I enable it to help with
missing art following library rescan ?

Thanks

Cheers

But if I run a New Changed music scan, this should pick up new art
work shouldn't it ? And Clear Cache would be unnecessary ?

Commander normally detects when a rescan has occurred because the
Commander Sync runs automatically if Commander is launched subsequent to
the library rescan.

Thanks both

I shall use Clear Cache more often in future.

What I want is to minimize the number of Clear Rescans as my library
is 400GB, so these take at 1 to 2 hours.

I suppose alternatively I could embed all my album art , but this would
be a Herculean task unless automated. Don't think Foobar2000 can batch
process this sort of operation. Maybe Mp3Tag can ?

They work fine via Logitech Android app.

The Duet was purchased to be pretty much the centre of my musical
universe at home (300GB library, 3+ tracks), along with Booms in
bedroom kitchen.

And it pretty much still is - I love it.

Most of my music Lame VBR preset extreme encoded (average bitrate 256)
mp3, so I probably wouldn't be regarded as an audiophile - but it all
sounds great to me through my hifi big Cerwin-Vega AT-60s !

Duet has been very reliable, although probably not as solid as the
Booms (this may be something to with the fact my Booms are always on or
in standyby whereas the Duet is shutdown unplugged every night.

Definitely not a mistake as far as I'm concerned. But others here
clearly don't share my view !

[slim] Add to playlist - please help me

2009-12-12 Thread swayzak

Hi

I'm sure that, when using the + button on the Boom, the selected item

This was a great way of bulding up a nice playlist.

However, now it seems to add to now playing so everytime you

currently playing track.

Before it would get added to the END of the playlist you were
constructing.

Am I being dim here or has the behaviour changed ?

If so, can I restore it to the older type of function ?

But I'm the opposite - I've managed to go completely SN so that I can
