[Dx4win] Parallel Port settings

2012-03-22 Thread Mike Cizek
Greetings -

Is there a way to change the address for LPT1 (or any other ports) in
DX4WIN? My new PC doesn't have any built-in parallel or serial ports, so I
got a plug-in card with 2 serial and 1 parallel ports. Evidently, they do
not use the "default" Windows addresses for ports and DX4WIN cannot find the
parallel port for CW keying. N1MM has the ability to change the port
addresses, so I was able to make that work, but I cannot find that setting
in DX4WIN. The serial ports work fine with both programs.

Setup: DX4WIN v 8.05; WIN 7 home premium 64 bit; Gigabyte mobo with i5 CPU;
StarTech PEX2S1P552B port expansion card.

This is NOT an "lptdriver" or "run as administrator" problem. I am hoping
to avoid having to buy another expansion card, presuming I can find one
which allows me to set the port addresses.

Thanks.

Mike W3MC

[Dx4win] German DOKs

2012-06-17 Thread Mike Cizek
Thanks to K7ACZ for posing this question and to SV1DPI for providing the
answer. The default for DOK used to be sorting by number. When you got to
that field, you could just type in the first letter, then scroll down to the
proper number. Would it be possible to make this the default method again?
Or, to be able to just type in the DOK number? That would save two steps
for each DL card, which doesn't seem like much, but it adds up when you get
50-100 DL cards in each bureau mailing.

Re: [Dx4win] DX4WIN filter question

2013-01-30 Thread Mike Cizek
Hello George -

Try this -

FILTER - type in 2013-01-01 - ENTER. This should give you all QSOs from 1
Jan. Then EXPORT this to another log file, say YES when it asks you if you
want to use the filter for the export. Do your DXCC report on this exported
log file.
There may be an easier way, in which case AD1C will probably anwer.

I need to filter all my QSO's from 1/1/2013 to 1/31/2013, tomorrow, and only
filter for the unique countries and write to a file that others without
DX4WIN can read.
We have a contest in our DX club, WNYDXA, for the most countries in the

I was able to filter all contacts in January but also need unique countries,
no dup countries.
How can this be accomplished in DX4WIN version 8.05?

[Dx4win] LoTW Inconsistencies

2013-03-08 Thread Mike Cizek
Greetings -

First order of business: Jim, AD1C, thanks a zillion for all the time and
effort you put into databases and those cool utility programs. Let me know
if you ever get out to the Baltimore/DC area; I'll ply you with good food
and booze.

There appear to be inconsistencies in my LoTW record, and I wonder if any
others have similar issues, or if I am doing something wrong. A search of
the DX4WIN reflector archives turns up several issues with LoTW not matching
DX4WIN and how to cure that, but I find nothing about inconsistencies within
LoTW itself.

After doing a large LoTW upload, then a DXCC application (and waiting until
it was processed), I ran dx4wlotw.exe, went through all of the mismatches
and changed them so there were no mismatches between my Award Credit Matrix
from ARRL and the DXCC Listing report generated by DX4WIN. After doing
this, I would expect the CHECKED column in the DX4WIN report to match the
AWARDED column on my LoTW Account Status page, but they are different. Each
band score is different, and the DXCC Challenge score is over 100 counts
different. ARRL thinks I have credit for more countries than DX4WIN does,
in each case.

I decided to check by band, starting with 160m. ARRL gives me credit for
two more countries than DX4WIN lists as being checked. Selecting 160m, All
Credits, sorted by prefix, and comparing that listing to the Award Credit
Matrix, I find two countries on the 160m list that do not have corresponding
X marks in their respective boxes on the Award Credit Matrix. Clicking on
QSO Details for each of those QSOs shows that they are, in fact, confirmed
through LoTW. This is not a case of selecting the wrong QSO, or a QSO that
occurred before DXCC records were computerized. Both of these QSOs are
within the past few years, are the only 160m QSOs with those countries, and
show as confirmed contacts but do not appear in the Award Credit Matrix.

This does NOT appear to be a problem with dx4win or dx4wlotw, but strictly a
LoTW issue. Have any of you noticed this in your records? Is there a way
(an easy way, hopefully) to correct it? Many thanks.

73,

Mike Cizek W3MC

Re: [Dx4win] LoTW Inconsistencies

2013-03-09 Thread Mike Cizek
Many thanks to all who answered, both to me and to the reflector.
Fortunately, none of you had the correct answer - by which I mean to say
that this was NOT a case of me screwing up the dx4win to LoTW process.

It seems that the Award Credit Matrix on LoTW is NOT updated instantly when
your DXCC application is "completed". The updated totals will show in your
Account Status report instantly, but the Matrix is only updated after the
DXCC processes your application. SO I just have to wait.

Patience, young grasshopper.....

Re: [Dx4win] Log for second callsign

2013-08-21 Thread Mike Cizek
If you want to keep the logs completely separate, shouldn't you use two
separate log files instead of one file with group numbers? Make a log for
N4GG and another for WA4BTC? You would need separate keys, etc, for LoTW,
but could merge the two (or more) files there for your DXCC.

Hal,

The group numbers work out very well for me. As said, I do maintain all my
DXpedition calls and PG5M contests in a single log, but using the group
numbers to identify the respective call/contest. Now with incoming QSL's, I
just type in the call and get all QSO's listed that I worked, regardless the
DX-call or contest. Next I can confirm the respective QSO's. A the time of
printing, I let the program also print the group number at the bottom of the
label (this is a tick box in the QSL printing menu). Now all QSL labels come
with the call associated with the group number. Example: "You worked 3D2GM"
or "You worked PG5M CQWWCW". With all the sheets with labels in front of me,
I peel off the label and can see on what QSL card I have to stick the label.

The benefit of this process is that you don't need to run label printing for
each call sign. Especially when people send me QSL requests for different
call signs, I can confirm in one go, instead of opening different
logs/databases to check the different calls.

Thanks Gerban,

I have gotten this far. I cant seem to label groups 1 and 2, but as long as
they are numbered I can always figure that out later. As a stand along
long, I found it troubling that the callsign in "preferences" was not the
old callsign but locked down to the new one.
I suppose in the end this does not matter.

Re: [Dx4win] DX4WIN Data Updater v. 7.01 released

2015-03-19 Thread Mike Cizek

Hello Dennis -

Your attachment didn't come through the reflector. Perhaps the program
was never installed properly? There are three files:

dx4wupd.exe
dx4wupd.ini
dx4wupd.rc

Do a search for dx4wupd.* Windows Button; type in the box that says
/Search programs and files /and see what you get. Mine didn't find
anything on the first search, so I had to tell it to search again in
Computer (WTF?!? Ohthis is Windozenever mind) and it finally
found them. Just delete them and install the new version. Maybe reboot
after deleting and before installing. Make sure you install the new
version in the same directory as the main DX4WIN program. I made a
separate directory called Radio_Programs (catchy title, eh what?) and
keep everything in there:

C:\Radio_Programs\dx4w805
C:\Radio_Programs\N1MM Logger+
etc...

Jim - please correct me if I told him anything wrong!

I've released DX4WIN Data Updater v. 7.01. The release notes are below.

I recommend that if you have installed a previous version, that you
uninstall it, from the Windows Control Panel (Programs and Features).
This will not remove your custom settings. Then install the latest
version of the program:

   http://dx4win.ad1c.us/updater/#history

There have been extensive changes, mostly in the area of error
checking. If you have any problems during the installation, or with
running the program itself, please let me know ASAP.

Here are the release notes:

7.01 - 19 March 2015
   * Bug fix: ignore corrupt DX4WUPD.INI (settings) file
   * Bug fix: use all possible methods for checking if DX4WIN is running
   * Bug fix: last line in DX4WIN.TCP (DX cluster nodes) wasn't being
added. Apologies to ZS6RO
   * Bug fix: direct all internal errors to a pop-up error message window
   * Feature: real Windows installation program
   * Feature: Update button is disabled until the user chooses at
least one data file to update
   * Other: -help and -version options work on the command line (again)
   * Other: BIG code cleanup (Perl Best Practices, etc.)

There is still at least one user out there who is having problems. I'm
hoping that this new version will bring those problems into the light,
so they can be solved.

Download 9.01 and try it.  You can not save or print without a license
key.  This way you can tell whether it works on XP or not before
spending money on an upgrade.  Post your results to the reflector.

I think changing the mode/submode of the old FT4 QSOs will avoid this. When
matching QSOs for import the sub-mode is now looked at too. See Multiple QSO

Importing QSOs from wsjtx_log.adi into DX4WIN log. Specify to ignore
dupes.
In 9.0.4 this worked nicely, only importing new QSOs.
Now with 9.0.5 it created approximately 140 duplicate QSOs out of
1000+ QSOs in the wsjtx log.
These added Qs differ by a minute.

The import preferences are the same for both versions of DX4WIN 60 & 1800.

Any ideas?

Would it work if you used File | Preferences | QSO | Label/Upl Flag and

the QSL Method for each.

Hi Jim, John and others,

I am actually working on this for Joe (OZ0J / 5Q2T) -- see his post from Sep
24th at the end of this email.

I haven't done ClubLog yet so if anyone else has variations of what they
would like done by a utility I'm writing, please speak up now :-)

Also, mention what version of DX4WIN you are using.

My "plan A" is to write something that would create a .DXL file but I don't
yet know if that is possible.
My "Plan B" would be to have you do an "export", run my program against the
export and then re-import the new results to DX4WIN.

Plan A is more handy for the user (ONE step) but "Plan B" is more versatile
and perhaps easier to adapt to future versions of DX4WIN.

I "hope" to have something to test by the end of next weekend (Nov 24th).

Hi gang

I am using OQRS for my overseas trips and have download several ADIF
files containing details of bureau and direct requests.

My main logging programme, from which I manage QSL printing is DX4WIN.

Has anyone found a way of importing the Clublog produced ADIF file
into DX4WIN and setting the QSL label and method flag, ready for
printing?

I suspect it isn't possible! Anyone else use a similar set-up? Do I
need to check the DX4WIN entries manually?

How do others update their logs from the QSL request ADIF files
produced by Clublog?

Thanks

Hi

I am QSL manager for some calls and I would like to import the OQRS ADIF
file from www.clublog.org info DX4WIN.

The QSO's are already in DX4WIN, but I would like to update the QSL status
meaning that the stations who want a buro QSL card will get one after I have
updated the stat us from the OQRS Clublog file.

An example of the clublog ADIF file can be seen at
https://dl.dropboxu
sercontent.com/u/2651703/5Q2T-clublog-qslrequests-2013-09
(
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2651703/5Q2T-clublog-qslrequests-2013-09
)
-23.adi

I get an e-mail with whose stations that want a QSL card. The e-mail can be
seen at https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2651703/clublog-qsl-e-mail.pdf

I stead of going through all the e-mails manually, I would like to import
the ADIF file so DX4WIN update these data:

Label change from N to Y (only for those that have not been sent already)
Method change from Buro to Direct if it is a direct QSL card.

I have tried to import the ADI F file via File -> Import/Export and set the
imported QSOs to "replace". That was not the solution I was looking for.

Do anyone have a solution ? Or is it manually work?

Hello all.

A friend of mine, also a DX4WIN v8.05 user, has just installed it in his new
laptop with Windows 8.1. As suggested by instal program, he installed it in
c:\dx4win805. Now, each time he tries to save the log file (either typing
Alt-S or going to File > Save), he gets this message:

An exception occurred!
Unable to create directory
[ok]

But the file is saved correctly.

My friend re-installed the program in c:\program files\dx4win805. Now, no
error message appears, but, he noted that the log file is no longer stored
in the save folder, but in:

c:\users\{username}\appdata\local\virtualstore\program files\dx4win805\save

Question: Is there a way to disable the above error messages when
installing DX4WIN in root directory, or to save the data files in the
DX4WIN's own save folder, not in "c:\users\{username}\local..."?

Subject: [Dx4win] DX4WIN, LoTW, and the DXCC Award

I would appreciate some help to more thoroughly understand in what ways
DX4WIN (v.8.05) "communicates" with the Logbook of The World program (LoTW)
and possibly also with the DXCC desk at the ARRL. I haven't been able to
find answers to my questions using the HELP services in DX4WIN.

The ability of DX4WIN to export my logs to LoTW and for LoTW to send a
report of successful matches back to DX4WIN is wonderful. It is not clear
to me, though, if DX4WIN also communicates with the DXCC desk at the ARRL
with regard to paper QSL cards that have been checked, submitted, and
approved. Does DX4WIN have this ability as well?

What about the meanings of the letters W, L, M, C, S, and the asterisk(
"*") in the DXCC Listing report?

The "W" (for station worked) seems clear enough.

The letter "L" seems to mean that I put a "Y" in the box under "Label" in
the QSO window, asking DX4WIN to mark a QSO so that a label can be printed
later. Does the "L" mean anything else?

The DX4WIN instructions say that the letter "M" means I mailed a QSL card
for a contact I made. What is the "trigger" in DX4WIN that causes an "M"
to appear? Is it that I have entered a date in the "QSL Date" boxes? Not
that I have put a "Y" indicating I want to create a label? Am I right that
the "M" has to do only with my outgoing paper QSL cards?

The DX4WIN instructions say that a "C" means a QSO has been confirmed.
Confirmed by whom? Is this because LoTW found a match to my QSO? Or is it
because the DXCC desk knows I have a valid paper QSL card for the QSO and
tells DX4WIN about it? Or is it because I have received a paper QSL card
and I have entered a "Y" in the "Cnfm" box?

Does an "S" (for submitted) mean that I have exported a QSO to the LoTW
program but a match was not found at the time of export? If the other
operator exports his or her logs to LoTW after my submission, does LoTW
remember that I am still looking for a match? Or do I have reset the
upload flag and clear the date of the original export in order to try again
for a match? Does the "S" also signify that I have submitted a valid paper
QSL card to the DXCC desk at ARRL?

Finally, the asterisk ("*") is said to mean that the QSO has been approved
for the award. Approved by LoTW (because LoTW found a match)? Approved by
the DXCC desk at ARRL (because I submitted a valid paper QSL card?) Or
does the asterisk mean simply that a matched (or Confirmed?) QSO meets the
rules of the DXCC award program? Does the asterisk have anything to do
with paper QSL cards that have been checked and submitted to the DXCC desk?

I look forward to some help.

Kingman (and all other deleted countries) still count towards your mixed,
phone, CW, rtty, and individual band DXCC totals. They do not count for the

Unless I'm missing something, KH5K is still Kingman reef, it's just no

You can do a filter (F8) with label set to Y. It's not a report, but will
give you a list of just those QSOs.

Re: [Dx4win] LOTW

2016-05-26 Thread Mike Cizek W0VTT
Hello Cort,

There are two ways to do it:
1. Do a date filter(F8) in DX4WIN. Set Preferences|QSO|QSO Date to "Greater
Equal". This will give you all QSOs from 9 Mar 16 to present. Now do an
export to LoTW and answer YES to "Filter active, use it for export?".
DX4WIN will remember the date of your last LoTW upload so it won't be an
issue next time.
2. Export everything and use the QSO Date Range filter in TQSL to select 9
Mar 2016 to present.

After you do the export and upload, in the QSO window, do LoTW|Set LoTW
Upload Date for everything. This way, DX4WIN will think you have already
uploaded everything (even the QSOs you uploaded from Writelog) and not try
to upload them again.

Everything else seems to work fine.

Esteemed members,

I am new to this reflector and this my first post. I apologize in advance
if this issue has been previously discussed...

Have been using V 7.07.02 without issues.

The other day decided to download V8.05.

Per instructions on Data Updater web page downloaded 8.05 in the same
directory as 7.07.02

Download went very quickly and smoothly, NO error messages. " DX4WIN Data
Updater" icon appeared on desktop.

So far, so good..

Double Clicked on "updater" icon and "wheel" on icon spun for about 2
seconds and stopped without opening program.

Repeated this process several times with same results.

Proceeded to control panel and Uninstalled updater program.

Reinstalled. no problem, no errors, and icon reappeared on desktop.

Double clicked again on "updater" icon with same results.

Am running Windows 10.

Not sure what to do next?

Could it be the jump from version 5.03 to 8.05 that is too difficult?

Re: [Dx4win] Error in DXCC report - version 8.05

2016-12-13 Thread Mike Cizek W0VTT
Hello Joe,

CW QSOs before 1975 DO count for mixed and single band DXCC awards, so your
DX4WIN report is correct. The award for CW only DXCC started on 1 January
1975, so only QSOs made after that date count.

The CW DXCC award does not count individual bands. It only counts the
number of countries (entities) starting on 1 Jan 1975 and it doesn't matter
what band, or how many bands you have.

I hoe this makes sense to you, and to Leif. If not, perhaps someone else
can explain it differently.

Hi

I earlier got the information that CW QSOs before 1 January 1975 do not
count for DXCC. Since that I have tried to help my friend OZ1LO to find out,
whatever there is an error in the DXCC report in DX4WIN version 8.05.

I have created a log with 2 QSOs on 80 M. Both QSOs are with CW mode and one
QSO is BEFORE 1 January 1975 and one AFTER.

When I run the DXCC report (Report -> DXCC) I get this result:

MIXED 2
CW 1
80 M 2

Even when I run the DXCC report with these settings:

DXCC summary or listing
Mode = CW
Band = 80M

I still get:

MIXED 2
CW 1
80 M 2

Why do I not only get the CW DXCC awarded QSOs here?

Pictures of the report settings and result can be found at
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2651703/dx4win-oz1lo.pdf

How do I (or OZ1LO) get a report that ONLY show the valid CW DXCCs on each
bands? Or is that not possible?

Re: [Dx4win] OT - LOTW w/Multiple Callsigns ??

2016-12-14 Thread Mike Cizek W0VTT
Hello Mike -

No, that doesn't sound right. It should also show WN8NBO and WA8NBO as
choices. Did you establish station locations for both of those
certificates? When I upload a file, after selecting the file, the Select
Station Location for Signing window shows all five of my callsigns. You
should see all three of yours here. There is a button on the far left of
this window that says New... This will allow you to establish a new station
location for any of your existing callsigns, but does not allow you to add a
callsign.

Check Callsign Certificates tab and make sure all three callsigns appear
here.
Next, check the Station Locations tab and make sure each callsign has a
location. You can add Station Locations on this tab. GL.

Mike,
When I do the "Sign a log" thing, it says it will sign and upload as
W8DN with location Ohio (all 3 calls use Ohio as location). Is it going
to give me a chance to change after that or immediately send the file.
Seems like I would remember since I just uploaded DN Qs last night but I
guess that is one of the "benefits" of getting to be an old fart.

The driver you need is lptdriver.exe and you put it in the dx4win drivers

You can find upgrade instructions here:

the Port Driver is needed or not found. My new machine has no

I want to upgrade from 6.05 to 8.05

My old machine should not be a problem upgrading there.
However how do I get the upgrade on the new win 10 pc when
there is no DX4WIN installed there to the port driver requirement.

The full version is $90 and the upgade is $40 , so a sizeable amount,
considering the CDN dollar sucks.

Any suggestions how I might proceed ??

Subject: [Dx4win] DX4WIN Data Updater: UPDATE\dx4win.php is not a JSON
fileerror

Hi Folks,

I finally figured out what's causing this error from the DX4WIN Data
Updater. Only a few people have reported seeing it:

UPDATE\dx4win.php is not a JSON file

It means exactly what it says it means. Because it happened to me
today, I was able to diagnose the problem. It's a long-ish story, but
the executive summary is:

1. The Updater is doing exactly what it's supposed to do.
2. If you saw this error, you will not see it again.

Leo, IZ5FSA maintains the 425 DX News calendar:

http://www.425dxn.org/index.php?op=wcal

He makes a version of this calendar available that can be used by
DX4WIN. In the past, the calendar he provided was text-based. It
looked something like this:

13/02/2016 00:00:00,21/02/2016 23:59:59,V31YN: Belize
13/02/2016 00:00:00,23/02/2016 23:59:59,5V7TH: Togo
13/02/2016 00:00:00,24/02/2016 23:59:59,XW4XR: Laos

After the Updater downloaded the calendar, the user had to manually
import it into DX4WIN. I believe the name was something like
calendar.txt.

Somewhere along the line, the name of the downloaded file became
dx4win.php, but it was still in text format. Remember this for later.

In early 2016, Leo began offering the calendar in JSON format. It was
first used by version 8.01 of the DX4WIN Data Updater:

"JSON, or JavaScript Object Notation, is a minimal, readable
format for structuring data.
It is used primarily to transmit data between a server and web
application, as an alternative to XML."

The calendar in JSON format was downloaded into a file called
calendar.php, which was used by the DX4WIN Data Updater to update the
calendar inside DX4WIN. The user no longer had to import it into
DX4WIN by hand.

Recently, Leo moved the calendar from his personal web server to the
425 DX News web server. In this process of this change, the name of
the file that the Updater downloaded changed again, this time (back)
to dx4win.php. This also resulted in the release of version 9.4 of
the DX4WIN Data Updater.

Here is where the problem occurs. People who used an earlier version
of the DX4WIN Data Updater downloaded a text version of the calendar
into a file named dx4win.php, which is stored in the UPDATE directory.
Today, the Updater is downloading a file with this same name, but in
JSON format, to a temporary directory. The Updater compares the old
and new calendars to see if they are different. It compares the
newly-downloaded calendar from the temporary directory, with the
previous one that is in the UPDATE directory. If you were using an
old version of the updater, you may have an old dx4win.php file in
text format. So the Updater is trying to compare the new JSON-format
calendar with the old TEXT-format calendar. This cause the pop-up
error message. When the error occurs, the Updater decides the old
calendar in the UPDATE directory is no good, and replaces it with the
one it just downloaded. So the error will not occur again.

Sorry for the inconvenience. At least I understand the problem now,
and know that it is *not* with the 425 DX News website or the Updater.

Re: [Dx4win] Query

2017-05-09 Thread Mike Cizek W0VTT
Hello Mike,

You may need to do that manually. If you make a submission through DX4WIN,
you can change all of the submitted QSOs to Checked. Look under Reports –
Award Flags – Action. Try this – AFTER making a backup copy of your log and
putting it safely away. Do a submission (Reports – Report/Action –
Submission) for the award(s) of interest. Then do Reports – Award Flags –
Action – Submitted -> Checked for the same award(s). If that doesn’t work,
maybe someone else will have an idea, or you may need to do it manually.

Re: [Dx4win] ADI Import Having Duplicates Rejected

2017-07-04 Thread Mike Cizek W0VTT
Hello Bud,

You have several options when importing QSOs. When you select a file for
import, a window opens up entitled "Options for duplicate QSOs". It has a
drop down menu and the default option is "Issue warning and stop".The
next two options are "Imported QSO replaces existing QSO" and "Imported QSO
is ignored". Simply select whichever one of these you like and the import
will proceed. GL.

I imported the WSJT-X adi file containing my first QSO into DX4WIN. It went
perfectly. The DX4WIN log shows mode JT65. Perfect.

The WSJT-X adi file now has three qso's including the first one.

DX4WIN rejected the import because of the one duplicate QSO.

How do I set DX4WIN to accept all duplicates in the adi file?

Hello Peter,

Not sure what you mean here. If you are talking about canned responses from
the CW keyboard window, yes, you can. Simply type in 5NN, or whatever cut

If you are talking about serious contesting, you may be better off using
N1MM or one of the contest specific logging programs.

Did this answer your question? If not, what exactly do you want to do with

Re: [Dx4win] JT65 in report

2017-08-11 Thread Mike Cizek W0VTT
The F8 filter will not work this way; the report will still look at all of
the QSOs in your log. There are a couple of ways to do it, but I think the
easiest would be to filter for JT65, export the filtered QSOs to another log
file, and do your report(s) from that file. None of the ARRL awards care
about signal reports, so you don't need them for a submission.

Paul has announced that he is working on a new version and it is in beta
test. I'm sure he is reading the reflector and will have this import thing
corrected in the new version.

FWIW, I find it easier to log the QSOs directly in DX4WIN, rather than
importing my WSJT-X log.

If you are entering the QSOs manually, you can enter JT65 directly into the

Re: [Dx4win] JT65 in report

2017-08-11 Thread Mike Cizek W0VTT
Hello Bob,

The program only does phone, cw, and digital because that is what the League
counts for DXCC; they don't care which digital mode you use for your digital
DXCC. The reports generator looks at the entire log, or a selection, but
will not recognize the F8 filter.

There are two ways to get the report info you want. One (I think the
easiest) is to use the method I described in my last email. The other would
be to assign all of your JT65 QSOs to a group, make a selection (different
than a filter) of that group number, and do your report on the selection.

FT8 mode on all FT8 QSOs.

I noticed the file entry for a JT65 QSO mode was "JT65" so I
tried "FT8" on FT8 QSOs.

When I use the TQSL V2.3.1 with Configuration data V11.1, it says
"Invalid MODE (FT8)" on the first line containing the new mode.

Is it the "MODE:4" that is incorrect?

Re: [Dx4win] How do I modify ADIF so that I can upload FT8 QSO's?

2017-08-15 Thread Mike Cizek W0VTT
Hello Mark,

If you are logging your FT8 QSOs in WSJT-X, you can simply upload that log
with TQSL.

In my case, using a K3 and WSJT-X, DX4WIN thinks all digital mode QSOs are
RTTY QSOs and I had just been uploading them that way. They will match as
long as both sides of the QSO use a mode in the DATA mode group.

To change your DX4WIN file to FT8, export the ADIF file and for each QSO,
change RTTY (or what ever you used to log those QSOs) to
FT8. You can do this with a simple text editor like Notepad.

The new version of dx4win will have all of the new modes in it.

Re: [Dx4win] Uploading FT8 QSO's to LOTW

2017-08-23 Thread Mike Cizek W0VTT
Hello Tom,

There is an easier way. For FT8, log them as TOR, a mode supported by
dx4win but not by LoTW. In TQSL, under File > Display or Modify
Preferences... > ADIF Modes > Add... Type TOR in the ADIF Mode window,
select FT8 for the Resulting TQSL mode, and select OK. Now, all of the FT8
QSOs that you logged as TOR will be converted to FT8 when they are signed
and uploaded to LoTW. Unfortunately, you cannot do the same with FSK441 to
MSK144 because both modes are supported by LoTW.

OR - you can simply upload your WSJT-X adif log to LoTW through TQSL.

Note that in LoTW, ANY mode in the Data mode group will provide a match with
any other mode. For example, if you log your FT8 QSO as TOR and upload it
as either TOR or FT8, and the other guy uploads his as RTTY or simply as the
generic DATA mode, it will generate a match. DXCC does not care which
digital mode you use.

Rest assured that dx4win version 9 DOES include all of the new modes.

Subject: [Dx4win] Uploading FT8 QSO's to LOTW

Greetings folks. Thought I'd share an experience that might help you, or,
someone might point out how to do this differently.

I've made a handful of FT8 QSO's. Since DX4WIN doesn't have an FT8 mode
(YET!) I was selecting a similar mode of JT65. When the ARRL announced that
FT8 was now a supported mode on LOTW, I decided to export my FT8 QSO's and
upload to LOTW.

So, in DX4WIN, I exported my QSOs creating an .adi file. I then edited this
file and changed all occurrences of JT65 to FT8. I saved the file and then
used TQSL to sign and upload my .adi file. However, TQSL said the "FT8 " was
an invalid mode. Wait, what? Maybe you already know where I went wrong.

In the .adi file there are XML-like field names. My .adi file had
FT8. Well, it turns out that "4" after MODE means that the mode is
4-characters long, BECAUSE, I had originally chosen JT65 as the mode which
IS 4-characters long. Once I figured this out, I changed the field heading
to FT8 and saved the file. This time my file was signed and uploaded
with no errors.

I've done similar search and replace from FSK441 to MSK144 but both of those
mode strings are 6 characters, so I didn't have to change the field
heading.

So, lesson to be learned here is, when selecting an alternative mode for
your FT8 QSO's, try to find a 3-character mode so that when you perform a
search and replace of your adi file, you also won't have to change each
occurrence of the length character.

There's got to be an easier way..

73, Tom

2017-08-23 Thread Mike Cizek W0VTT
Hello Carol,

Jim AD1C has info on the DLL error on his website here:
http://dx4win.ad1c.us/updater/index.html

There is also info on importing your log into a newer version here:
http://dx4win.ad1c.us/appnotes/upgrade.html

Scroll about 2/3 of the way down the page to where it says "Additional notes
for upgrading to DX4WIN 8.0x from an earlier major version" and see if that
works. GL.

Subject: [Dx4win] DX4WIN ver 8.05 Help

Hello all,

My XP computer just died and I have Win 8.05 set up on a win 7 machine.
Almost everything is fine except...

1. My DX4WIN ver 6.04 files were saved on a flash drive. I imported that
file into DX4win 8.05. All the qso's came through except for one
problem...all the qso info is gone; name, qth, etc. Everything else is
there.

2. I have downloaded the updater but it won't run because I am missing
VCRunTIME140.dll. I remember having that problem with my XP machine and
someone told me how to fix that problem.

Any help?

Carol

Re: [Dx4win] Sunrise /sunset window

2017-08-23 Thread Mike Cizek W0VTT
Hello Bernie,

If your notebook screen is much smaller than the screen you originally had,
it may be open but off the edge of the screen someplace. Do you have "Leave
all windows in original position" checked? It's under File > Preferences >
Screen. If it is checked, try un-checking it. Un-check the SR/SS window in
the QSO window > Windows, and check it again and see it if re-appears.

Re: [Dx4win] JT9

2017-08-28 Thread Mike Cizek W0VTT
Hello Bob,

There is no provision for the user to add modes, but there are a couple of
ways to log your JT9 QSOs and upload them to LoTW.

In my setup (WSJT-X and K3) all of the soundcard modes are logged as RTTY.
I make note of the actual mode (JT9, MSK144, or JT65 on my case) in the
"Notes for this QSO" field and just upload them as RTTY QSOs. They will
still generate a match in LoTW.

Another way is to log them as TOR, which is a mode not supported by LoTW.
To upload them you can have TQSL map them to JT9:
TQSL > File > Display or Modify Preferences... > ADIF Modes > Add.. Type
TOR in the ADIF Mode: box and select JT9 for the Resulting TQSL mode. Now
all of the TOR QSOs will be converted to JT9 when they are signed by TQSL
and uploaded to LoTW.

When downloading from LoTW and importing them back in to dx4win, the only
QSOs that will match will be the ones where the other station has also
uploaded them as RTTY. The rest will be in the lotwreport.notfound file and
you can change them manually.

DX4WIN version 9 will have all of the new modes in it.

Since you cannot have attachments in this mailing list, please drop me a

Hi, I have searched archives but not able to find much information regarding
this topic. All I basically want to do is be able to read and display the
radio frequency in the appropriate DX4WIN window and use the CW keyboard
facilities to transmit morse on the 7300, Simples!

I presume that this can be done with just the USB cable, have tried with the
7600 rig file and changing the hex code to 94, then re-booting but no luck.
Any ideas, thanks in advance

Re: [Dx4win] Is DX4WIN even supported?

2017-09-25 Thread Mike Cizek W0VTT
Hello Mark,

Not only is dx4win still supported, but a new version is now in beta
testing. You don't say what version you are using, but for most recent
versions the best way to update any and all of the files is to use AD1C's
Data Updater:
http://dx4win.ad1c.us/updater/index.html

You may also download the files manually:
http://dx4win.ad1c.us/

The most recent country file was released just a few days ago:
http://www.country-files.com/category/dx4win/

You need to click where it says [download]:

Or, you can use Jim's Data Updater and update all of your files at the same
time.

I've pretty much used DX4WIN since version 5, 17 yrs ago. I've always

Hopefully Paul (and his Team) can start to manage the expectations of the
customer with a release date soon. I don't think there are going to be any
"game changing" features. Just bringing the product up to speed with modern
requirements (long overdue). No doubt the upgrade will also come with a fee.
I am giving it until the end of the year, then will move on, there are a lot

something soon.

Re: [Dx4win] Problem with exporting LoTW

2017-10-12 Thread Mike Cizek W0VTT
Hello Sam,

Do any of those QSOs show a LoTW upload date? Did you maybe have a filter
in place (looking for something in the log) when you did the export? Try
doing a filter by date for the contest weekend and select LoTW > Clear LoTW
Upload Date (whether or not an upload date is showing) and try the export
again. I agree it doesn't make sense. If all else fails, you can always
sign and upload the ADIF file from N1MM with TQSL.

Subject: [Dx4win] Problem with exporting LoTW

Hello everyone..

I have been having a problem with exporting to LoTW, and I am at my wit's
end trying to figure it out. After the recent CQWW rtty test I imported my
log from n1mm+ and I was successful with over 1500 contacts being imported.
I selected the "set LoTW flag" when I did this, and indeed the LoTW flag was
set to "Y" for all these contacts. When I then tried to export from DX4WIN
(8.5) for submission to the LoTW web site I got a message that only about
150 contacts were being exported. I then aborted the export and clicked N
to "do you want to clear the upload flag".

All my contacts (1500+) still have the LoTW flag set to "Y" but now when I
try to export I get the message that "Exports finished, no QSOs were
written".

I then tried to set the "Filter" function by creating a new group with the
Date Filter box checked and of course the first and last dates entered.
This did not work either. I know the answer is simple but for the life of
me I have not been able to find it.

What am I doing wrong?

As Paul mentioned in his release announcement, the custom awards
database has undergone some changes. Some awards were re-named, and
there were some changes to the custom award values. Note that in the
QSO window, the Custom award and Custom award value fields show the
abbreviations, not the full names. You can do a custom award report
to see the full names.

If you are tracking custom awards in DX4WIN, you should probably
perform a migration. This will result in changes to your log, so make
sure to save the changes if you are satisfied with the migration.

QSO | Multiple QSO Operations | Check Custom Awards

You will get a prompt like the following:

Checking Custom Award for 153811 QSOs
Are you sure

Click Yes. When it is done, you may see something like the following:

One Custom Award value could not be converted
Look for AWDERR: in the QSO notes field

These are examples of some of the error messages you see in the "Notes
for this QSO" field:

AWDERR: Awd=WLHA AwdV=0029 Msg=Bad award value2
AWDERR: Awd=ARLH AwdV=GUA 005 Msg=QSO not good for award2

The first message means the abbreviation for the custom award value
was not recognized.

The second message means that the QSO was made before the award start
date, or after the award end date.

If you find any such AWDERR messages in error, please let me know and
I'll update the database.

Paul talked about all the new features.

I would like to note some long awaited features which I liked most in 901:

-> Auto connect in clusters

-> xml data with QRZ.com plus alt+f3 opens direct the browser to qrz!

-> Separate DXCC application either via LotW either via paper cards.

-> Auto update for files and dx4win.

-> new modes and reports (for the ft8 funs - I hate this mode... :) )

-> new search! Alt+f8 and you can search for data, phone, cw

-> in QSL methods added OQRSd (direct) and OQRSb (buro)

and much more according Paul's email...

I believe there are not changes in code on cat control. Only Paul can
say if these are the same files from Jim's site or new ones, so it is
possible to have bugs. I assume you use files from Jim's site for these
radios. don't you? Also please confirm that you have the same settings

Subject: [Dx4win] v 9.01 - Custom Award question.

I will try to keep this simple - and I do hope there is a simple answer that
I have completely overlooked.

I worked Yoshi, and he lives in Sendai City (Japan).

I want to populate both the 'Custom Award' and 'Custom award value' boxes on
the logging window.

We all know how we collected this same information (data) in v8.05 and prior
- and that Sendai City is city number '4616' in (Jim's AD1C) the JCC award
database.

Let's assume, however, that I do not know this and want to find out this
very same information using v9.01.

What I did was select 'JCC' from the list contained within the 'Custom
Award' database. So 'JCC' populates the 'Custom Award' box.

I then clicked on the 'Custom award value' box, and a list of numbers comes
up - thousands of numbers. Just numbers, as far as I can see!

My question is - how do I find out which of those many numbers belongs
(equals) Sendai City. In v8.05 there was a database that allowed you to
match the name of the city with the corresponding award number - easy!

How do I do this very same thing using v9,01.

What did I miss?

Please help - it must be simple?

Subject: [Dx4win] Upgrade from 8.05 to 9.01 with XP Pro

Hello,

I have a dedicated machine that runs XP Pro that is not connected to the
Internet in any way. I have it connected to my K2 and K1 for CW keying but I
do pull the plug to run a straight key, bug or the keyer inside the K2 and
K1 rigs.

I have been one of the longtime guys that uses the DX4WIN program since day
one. So I decided to do the upgrade but I first went out and purchased a new
USB Flash Drive. I backed up the entire folder for DX4WIN 8.05 version.

I downloaded the new DX4WIN 9.01 and purchased the license. A few hours
later I received my receipt and the V9 license file.

I loaded the file onto the computer that is on the Internet running Win 7.
I then loaded onto the XP Pro computer. I then copied my log file into the V
9.01. Everything opened up fine and seems to work great. Now for the real
test. I did an update on the V 9.01 on the Win 7 computer. I copied the
DX4WIN Version 9.01 file from the Win 7 computer to the XP Pro computer.

I opened up my log file and everything is working fine. Now I just have to
go and transfer some files I use in the DX4WIN for CW and PSK to their
proper location.

One thing I would like to do is make the windows larger on the XP Pro
machine but I have a larger monitor I can use but that will be at a later
time.

Thanks to Paul and the Beta Testers.

They are both still there. The default search in the Custom Award window is
by award name. Start typing World Wide Fl and it will come up. F2
will switch between searching for award name and award code. Hit F2 and you
can type WWFF or ARLHS. The text at the top of the box tells you if it is
searching for the name or the award code.

Hello John,

If you want to make and save changes to a QSO, use F10, Update QSO. If you
are going through the log doing buro cards using the F2 key, hitting F2
after making the change will save the changes and do whatever else you have
it set to do in File > Preferences > F2 key.

I am running the latest version 9.02.1134 and noticed something odd. In
going through my incoming bureau QSL cards I found one for which I had
busted the call. I found him in my logbook viewer and brought the incorrect
QSO to the screen. Then I changed the callsign to the correct one and
pressed . I would have received a "Do you want to make the changes"
warning previously but this did not happen and the callsign could not be
corrected. If I changed the QSL route, etc. and pressed , the
modified QSL route would be saved and the corrected callsign would also be
saved.
Just a minor issue.

The "Fresh Install" also has all the data file updates that I released on
October 30. Note that you can get these through Help | Check for Update.
In other words, there is no need to do a fresh install of
9.02 *just* to get the data file updates.

Also note that you will no longer be prompted to update (download) the
Sample log, if you have deleted it.

Re: [Dx4win] Missing DOK award in 9.01 is not missing at all!

2017-11-04 Thread Mike Cizek W0VTT
Hello Alan,

If you have the DOK info just in the "Note for this QSO" field, it won't
magically appear in the custom award listing. You would have had to put it
in the custom award in version 8.05.

Actually, version 8 had the listing by DOK numbers, too, but you had to
change it from name to number with F2 once you had the window open.

I have ver 8.05 on one PC and 9.0.2.1134 on another PC.
I have DOK info in my NOTES window. I have 106 DOK numbers in my NOTES in
both 8.05 and 9.02.
When I performed the run the "Check Custom Awards" function under Multiple
QSO Operation it told me CHECKING CUSTOM AWARDS FOR 106 QSO'S (correct). ARE
YOU SURE: YES. Response: No custom awards values were converted. What did I
do wrong?

I really like the new listing as it is by actual DOK numbers. In 8.05 they
were listed by name. Very hard to find the DOK number in the names listing.

I forgot to mention:

You *will* have to run the "Check Custom Awards" function under Multiple QSO
Operations in order to covert the old DOK award to the DLD award. See the

Re: [Dx4win] Master call data merging. Part II

2017-11-08 Thread Mike Cizek W0VTT
Hello Vic -

I just tried this myself and see what you mean. Try changing the file name
to calls.dta. That seemed to work for me.

Please refer to Dx4win user manual 3.8 "Master calls" (page 101).

I followed a procedure step by step, but cannot locate a newly created file
(calls.txt)
during step 4.
Is it possible that .txt file is not recognised as a valid one?

Re: [Dx4win] PzRotatorAx not working in 9.02

Hello Steve,

I don't use rotor control myself, but believe I read on here recently that
you need to enable it by band. Look in File > Preferences > Control.

Has anyone gotten PzRotatorAz (13.17) to work with DX4WIN 9.02?

In checking the preferences:

8.05
Message Based
Handshake: ThunderRT6FormDC|DX4PST

9.02
Message Based
Handshake: ThunderForm|ARSWIN

Changing this to DX4PST does not change the results.

PzRotatorAz is working correctly in tracking mode with WriteLog 12.09F.

There should be a setting to leave all windows in original position,
but I can't find it now!

In prior versions I always entered a callsign and pressed F8 to see logged
QSO’s with a specific station.

Now I get “not in the log”. Yet I find the callsign by scrolling the log and
finding the QSO’s I’m looking for.

What changed or what am I now doing wrong?

Re: [Dx4win] Mode RTTYM

2017-11-14 Thread Mike Cizek W0VTT
Hello Steve,

That's because your K3 is in the Data mode, and all it reports to dx4win, or
to any other logging program, is that it's in Data. There is no way for the
logging program to tell which sound card mode you are using.

On the menu bar at the top, click on Radio > Ignore Mode in real time and
that will let you select whichever mode you are using.

When I click on the Mode box, RTTY is the 4 selection. The first 5
selections are not in alphabetical order.

Using AFSK A on my K3 in Real-time selects RTTY.

It appears that one can not change a real-time mode selection. WHY?

When I operate the WSJT-X modes in real-time, they all show RTTY. It would
be nice to be able to override this.
