Re: [Dx4win] Sorting out for WPX Award

2012-07-15 Thread Kostas Stamatis
If you have the submission ready, do a search for submitted qsos (expand
qso window with F5, then F8 and write an S in wpx mixed). You have all
the qsos you need. Under windowlogbook you get a window looking as a
logbook. Right click on this and select report editor. You can add or
delete any of the columns you want. Leave only calls and after that you
will have the list you want only with calls. Again with right click
choose write to file, BUT

The list which is produced by dx4win which has a serial number in front
of the call is ok for anyone. I am CQ checker for Greece and there is no
problem either with numbers or not. It is easier with numbers for the
checker.

Re: [Dx4win] Fwd: Sorting out for WPX Award

2012-07-07 Thread Kostas Stamatis
I have done in past a wpx submission with dx4win without problem.
First of all you must go to Fileawardswpx tab to specify which cards
count for wpx. By default dx4win does not count the lotw cards but only
eqsl and paper cards. Have in mind that from eqsl only authenticated
users count.
Second go to QSO windowreportsWPX. Unmark the band and mode and leave
only the mixed award. In report/Action choose Submission and ok
I had not problems in past with this procedure and i can not see a
problem right now.

the next time i tried to export an adi file this wasn't an option. In case

Maybe you have asked of the clusters you are connected not showing 6m spots.
Try connect to a different node if you don't know how to enable it.
Personally i don't remember how to do it, but i connected to different nodes
with ve7cc program, i have setup every node with different parameters and i
am connecting to different nodes depending to what i want. The easier is to
use ve7cc program but i get bored to launch it every time. A wonderful new

Re: [Dx4win] Need help Yaesu Mark 5 and DX4Win

2012-05-07 Thread Kostas Stamatis
Larry i have also a mark v and dx4win.
I don't know what exactly your interface is...
I suppose that it is a homemade interface.
For cat control you need to have pins 2,3 and 5 to a conputer's com (let's
say com1)
For cw and ptt you should use pin4 (dtr) for cw, pin 7 for ptt(rts) and pin
5 for gnd.
So i suppose that you can use the same com.
(by the way you can see help under cw circuit diagram).
for cat control you need to setup the port for 4800,8,2
In mark v now...
cw goes to cw, ptt goes to ptt and cat goes to cat control
if ptt doesn't work probably you have not make it ok. But you can work ok if
you activate vox.

I am having trouble setting up a Yaesu Mark 5 and DX4Win on a new
Windows 7 computer. I had a discussion about this with Paul KK4HD this
morning and he suggested this mailing list.

 Specifically:

 1. On Preferences radio, the radio port is computer com1 (settings
of 8 bits parity 2) connected to the CAT rs-232 receptacle on the Yeasu.
It frequently times out, usually when I am entering a qso.

 2. On Preferences cw, cw keying is set to dtr and ptt is set to rts
 on com1 (again).

Is it correct to use com1 for both the radio port and cw keying and ptt?

 3. For some reason the cw keyboard types the message being sent with
the function key (example: cq cq) but there is no rf output.
This forces me to send my call every time instead of simply pressing the
F1 key to send N2LA - very cumberson.

I also have a Rigblaster Plus but seem to have problems hooking it up.

If you have any ideas on how to get this equipment working please let me
know. If you want to talk about any ideas my cell phone is
512-301-7666. Socotra is due to wind up in 9 days so time is very short.

 Please help!

Re: [Dx4win] Feature Request

2012-04-03 Thread Kostas Stamatis
I keep these infos also. As Jim said you should use notes for this QSO
field. This field is really useful for any info specific to this qso only
and not to this call. If you have organized your records you could easily
track them. For example for evry oqrs request you should write OQRS 5$. So
if you want to search all unanswered oqrs requests you can search them with
f8 and writing oqrs into notes for this qso filed and cnfm flag N. What's
better from this?

 Notes for this QSO field.

IMO, I don't think DX4WIN can or should accommodate an unbounded
number of QSL sent/rcvd fields in a single QSO record.

I believe it is relatively easy to make a homebrew interface to drive PW1
from an Ten Tec Orion ii. Orion ii (as i read in the manual) has band data
in back side. I saw also that you can drive a relay for every band. So you
can simply a voltage and some resistors to get the voltage you want for
every band. PW-1 needs a pecific voltage in every band to remote connector
to recognise in which band the rig is. See this page for the specific

Re: [Dx4win] Parallel Port settings

2012-03-22 Thread Kostas Stamatis
from the help file, you can see that you must edit the portmap.ini file...
See the help below
GL... 73 Kostas sv1dpi
DX4WIN supports these new virtual-memory parallel ports (LPT ports). The
SAVE directory includes a PORTMAP.INI file where the user can define the
memory location of virtual-memory parallel cards. For each LPT port (LPT1,
LPT2, LPT3) in DX4WIN, the user can define the memory location of the card
driver. Here is how to perform that task.

  · INSTALL THE PARALLEL CARD

Use the installation instructions from the manufacturer

  · FIND THE MEMORY LOCATION OF THE CARD

Right-click on My Computer, -Properties -Hardware -Device
Manager -Ports. Double-click on the LPT port, and on the Resources tab,
note the starting memory location (EXAMPLES LPT1 should be 0378, a
motherboard LPT2 should be 0278, virtual-memory LPT addresses will be
located much higher in memory with address like DC50). [NOTE **See special
instructions below for finding memory locations for ByteRunner or VSCOM
cards.]

  · EDIT THE PORTMAP.INI FILE

Using Windows Explorer or by directly launching Notepad, navigate to the
SAVE directory (or wherever you installed DX4WIN) and open the file
PORTMAP.INI. Add the decimal address for the appropriate card.

  · EXAMPLES:

LPT1=888

LPT1=$378

Note that the first line uses a decimal value; the second line uses a
hexadecimal value starting with a dollar ('$')

  · LAUNCH DX4WIN

Under File Preferences, assign the LPT ports (LPT1, LPT2, LPT3) as
required.

Special instructions below for finding memory locations for ByteRunner or
VSCOM cards

These cards have been popular with DX4WIN clients who use them for
additional serial and parallel ports. Unfortunately, the driver software
included with these cards does not display the virtual memory address under
Properties -Hardware -Device Manager -Ports. You must email
ByteRunner/VSCOM support, and they will email a small EXE utility,
VSSHOW.COM, that interrogates their card and gives you the address in hex.

Yes, there is no auto-login. However, once you have chosen

[Dx4win] QSL labels

2012-02-02 Thread Kostas Stamatis
I have some notes for printing with DX4win here
http://users.otenet.gr/~sv1dpi/en/dx4win/printqsos.html

If you have not enough space in your label for more than 1 qso, dx4win will
not print more than one. So try different labels just to see if it works. If
yes the problem is with your label. If not then the problem is with the qsl
method, groups, tnx or pse, or your settings. I don't think there is
anything more.

Re: [Dx4win] DX4WIN and Windows 7

2012-01-24 Thread Kostas Stamatis
GL with the new computers.
I prefer XP for ham use but i use win 7 in my laptop which occasionaly use
for ham radio. Install dx4win outside programs directory. MMTTY also.
Generally ham programs is good to install outside programs directory. This
is probably because our programs usually update themselves. Writelog goes to
its default directory but is has solved many problems it had at the start.
Microham router works ok but you can not manage soundcard via router
anymore. Windows keeps this function for them.
Finally i think that win7 are good, maybe better than xp for general use but
not for ham radio... Ofcourse this is my opinion only

 Hi all,

I posed this problem to the reflector before and received suggestions that
the missing window could be lurking behind one of the other windows. But I
had already thought of that and confirmed it was not.

A friend sent me this link to help me find the elusive window.. I have
 tried
 it also with no luck.

 http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows/bring-misplaced-off-screen-windows-ba

I am convinced now that the Sunrise/Set window is missing from the
 program.

Does anyone else have this problem? If so how were you able to correct it?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: [Dx4win] ARRL Triple Play Award

2012-01-09 Thread Kostas Stamatis
You can make a selection (filterselection) with date filter for qsos only
after 1/12009
Then you should go to fileawards and check as valid confirmation for WAS
only LotW.
Then when you enter a state you will see only states after 2009.
Becareful that the same applies for your dxcc.
I suggest ve7cc software because it shows the state beside every USA call.
Also k3uk sked's page is very helpful for triple play

2012-01-05 Thread Kostas Stamatis
Even you have not all your calls under same database you can name every
group in your log with the name you want to print into your qsl labels...
and print it...
for example group 1 like KM08HR SV1DPI/8
so when i print (my way) i will have this printed.
Don't forget also that there are commands (qsomultiple operationschnage
group number) to change the group number to something different than zero
(0) or to make default insertion group number something different than zero
(filepreferencesqso)

As it is now, I need to mark a different QSL method for the /1 QSOs and
then remember to edit the text for the labels before I print those. It
works OK this way, but several times I have forgotten to change the

Well, not a big deal, but would appreciate choise of different label

Re: [Dx4win] QSL Labels for Multiple Calls

2012-01-05 Thread Kostas Stamatis
Hello Paul
Group name is log specific.
So you have printing preferences something like
@@...73 de %%

so dx4win will print pse or tnx ... 73 de groupname in every case

So let's suppose you have your personal log.
All qsos should be at group 1 named F6EXV.
This will print Pse/Tnx... 73 de F6EXV

The log with the multiple logs
in group1 we have TO5FJ, in group2 PJ7X etc.
the same command will print, depending on the group...
Pse/Tnc... 73 de TO5FJ or PJ7X etc.
I think this is the better way to handle this.

 Hi all
 My situation is slightly different.
I have my main log F6EXV as a stand-alone log, so that statistics and so
 on are appropriate.
I manage several operations like TO5FJ, PJ7X to just name 2, so I do not
want to mix these calls with any other.
When I have to print a label for TO5FJ, I have to go to
Files/Preferences/Rep-Label and change the2 lines of comments. Then I
print the lables. If I need to print a label from PJ7X to that same
station, I have to go over all the process again.
The difference in the label comments are not necesarily only the callsign.

In other words, I wish I could define a label (size and comment) for
each callsign. Then, when I open a different log, I should be able to
select the TO5FJ or PJ7X label under QSLs/Print QSL label instead
of modifying each time I change logs.

 Any idea ?

I would like a separate text for every qso. I have qsos where
 i would like
to add a text when will be printed and i will forget to do
 it. But in your
 case i would have this:
 in group 1 oh2bf qsos
 group 2 oh2bf/1 qsos
 name of group 1 OH2BF-KO19pv-Lappohja
 and name of group2 OH2BF/1 KP11AA
This is good alternative to print what you want in your qsl label

 Kostas,

I have OH2BF and OH2BF/1 in different groups. The callsign
 used prints
fine, but I want to print the QTH also on the label (I use the same
 cards for both calls).

As it is now, I need to mark a different QSL method for the /1 QSOs
and then remember to edit the text for the labels before I print
those. It works OK this way, but several times I have forgotten to
change the label text and printed erraneous labels.

Well, not a big deal, but would appreciate choise of
 different label
 texts for each group.

 Happy New Year,

 Erkki OH2BF

Re: [Dx4win] PSK31 with DX4WIN

2011-12-25 Thread Kostas Stamatis
Merry Christmas
I think that the problem is your soundcard audio output to radio data or mic
input.
Radio reads audio input either back side (only digital) either in mic. Also
search what is happended to your soundcars. Usb iii had its own soundcard so
probably something has changed in the computer. Search this also. There is
also a chance something happened and computer has lost the microham
soundcard. Unplug it both usb and power (if it has) and plug it again. Also
make a restart.

2011-12-17 Thread Kostas Stamatis
Usually i keep record from qsl cards about who is dx4win user. This is a
personal group just for me. I would like to know it when i meet someone on
the air. Maybe we can talk about dx4win. I write dx4win user in Notes for
this Call . You could write the membership there. It comes up every time
you fill the callsign.
If you mean an automated way to see if someone is LotW user for example,
this is different.
I believe a good way for Paul to manage it, is to make a pseudo cluster
spot.
Alt+A spots the station on the air.
How do you think if Alt+B puts the call in dx spot window and in bandmap
without to spot him really!!!

It would be useful to have a field in the QSO window for Members that

Maybe do it like Callsign Alert, but add entries for:

I don't necessarily think you want all these calls to be in

Re: [Dx4win] Labels

2011-11-08 Thread Kostas Stamatis
Dimension of the label is too big. Printer can not print there. This is why
you have partial printing. You should play a little with the label height.
Remember that vert Pitch says to printer how far is the top of the first
label from the top of the next one. I think you should use smaller numbers
for the label height keeping probably the vert pitch.

I have tried most everything I can think of to solve this, maybe someone
can help me.

I am interested in seeing only NEW or Unconfirmed Band spots in my Packet
 Screen window.

Somehow I have not figured out how to do this. I keep getting new Band
Mode Spots in with my needed to confirm Band spots for the Challenge.
These clutter my screen as I am mostly CW and there are a lot of SSB
(Mode)Spots coming through, event though I have confirmed the country on
CW on that band. If it is a new Band country I need to work or confirm, I
don't mind the Spot(Mode) as if I work it I get Challenge credit.

How and can I accomplish this?

 Thanks for any insight. 73

I don't know if this answer is right or not. Ofcourse dx4win's database has
mistakes. But this is the biggest advantage of dx4win, because of the great
work Jim, AD1C, has done and contniue to do. Dx4win's database is considered
as a standard, and not only from us, dx4win users. Other logging programs
have features dx4win has not. I wish it will have (as an automated way to
upload in lotw with the press of one button, for example). But the most
important for a logging program is, first to keep your qsos safe and second
says what dxcc entity really a call is. And these two things dx4win do very
well or better thatn every other program i know. Thank you Jim and please
Paul keep updating and doing better this wonderful program.

If I understand correctly what you want, one way to do it is.

Under Reports when the window comes up click on the Report/Action box
and an arrow will come up in the box click that and then scroll down the

I'm confused by your instructions. I try to see each year how many
countries I work versus the previous year starting again at zero.

 You say:

 - Click Filter/Selection ( I assume that is Filter)
 - In that window I do not see a pop up menu that says Add
 ... I'm lost.

Bob K8BL (Still using 8.04 since it works OK for me and I see no
compelling reason to chance upgrading and encountering
 unknown problems.)

 In QSO window FilterSelection
In opo up window click add
 replace this name with 2011
write the dates in date boxes
 check date filter
and finally click update and ok
Now you are able to select 2011 from Filterselection and to see your dxcc
 total (Reportsdxcc)

 HI Dx4Win.ers

In my older version of dx4win I could do a search of my records for my 12
month DXCC score or my up-to-date band mode (only interested in the CW
 score)

I cannot now seem to be able to access the data, I'm obviously doing
something wrong!! Could someone show me the way to go please

 Thanks in advance.

Re: [Dx4win] Ver 8.05 and Green Heron rotor controller

2011-09-26 Thread Kostas Stamatis
I can explain how my rotator works. My rotator is a Yaesu g-1000 dxc with
ERC control
File preferencesrotator control
i have chosen Hygain dcu1. you probably should have green heron
After that under rotatorparameters in QSO window you should setup every
band
There are choises as disambled (i have it for 160m-30m), normal (i have it
for 20m-10m) or with offset (maybe someone is needed this for a 40m dipole
which has installed along the boom).
After all these, when i am in qso window (hit f9 to go directly) and my
radio is in one band where the parameter is set as normal or with offset,
and i put a callsign and i hit f11 the rotator starts moving and goes where
it is expected to go.
Don't forget that you should have all these:
1. be in qso window and
2. have a callsign and
3. be on a band where rotator is needed (and you have told it to dx4win) and
4.press f11

Subject: [Dx4win] Ver 8.05 and Green Heron rotor controller

I am, as usual, having just a TAD bit of trouble understanding how the
DX4Win rotor control Tab is supposed to work. I can manually get the
DX4Win rotor page to turn the Green Heron Controller for my M2 ORION 2800
rotor but shouldnt the ROTOR Parameters be filled in automatically when I
click on a spot? I am using Win7/64 and clicking on a spot in DX4Win loads
the band parameters, mode etc into the logging screen from the Elecraft K3
connected to DX4Win via LP-Bridge virtual port. However the Band info and
beam heading information from the spot I click on is not being transferred
to the DX4Win rotor screen? Isnt it supposed to be?

The Green Heron rotor controller is connected to the PC via a direct
serial port connection (serial port 2) and this is the port I defined in
the DX4Win rotor parameters. I tried controlling the rotor from DX4Win
via another virtual port in LP-Bridge but this didnt work either.

Manually I can enter in beam headings, and the proper Band that is enabled
for a rotor, in the DX4Win rotor screen then hit F11 and the rotor turns
but I cant get DX4Win to populate the rotor and Band info automatically by
 clicking on a spot.

Is all this clear as mud yet?

 Thanks for any help

the rotor tab is not needed. I have not open this window at all.
When the logging field be populated you are ready to press f11 and the
interface will do the rest.
Forget the rotor tab. Theoritically, you need to use it if you need to go in
a specific direction. Usually when i want to rotate the antenna to USA for
example i write W1 in the call and press f11. I never use it
Hope this helps

Subject: Re: [Dx4win] Ver 8.05 and Green Heron rotor controller

Maybe I can explain this a bit clearer.

When I click on a spot in the Packet field of DX4Win Ver 8.05 it populates
the logging field with CALL, MODE, BAND and also the Beam Heading of the
station automatically. HOWEVER, nothing happens at all in the DX4Win
ROTOR TAB section where the Band Info and Beam Headings stay at the
defaults of 160 meters DISABLED and 0 degrees.
I have enabled the Bands of 40-6 meters to be rotor controlled (set to
NORMAL in the Window) in the ROTOR Tab section of DX4Win. I have set the
port to the directly connected port of Com2 and I set the port speed to
4800 8-N-1 per suggestion from Green Heron.

I can manually plug in beam heading info or change the Band to an enabled
rotor band in the ROTOR Tab section and manually cause the rotor to turn
ok but shouldnt DX4Win populate the fields from the spot I clicked on?

Maybe thats a bit better explanation.

Thanks for any help... maybe someone can at least verify that the ROTOR
Tab does get populated from the spot window when clicking on a specific
 station.

Subject: [Dx4win] What reporting would be useful for Custom Awards?

I recently wrote a program that fulfilled the needs of one person as
relating to the Fred Fish Memorial Award. He said it saved him ours of
work. The program scanned his log looking for QSOs that qualified for the
FFMA. It then output a .CSV file that he imported into Excel (I think) and
made a form with all the information that the entry for required.

Rather than have a program specific for ONE award, Jim AD1C and I thought
it might be better and more usable if the program knew about other
awards and would produce (probably) .CSV files with information that could
be read into Excel, Access, etc and pretty'd up (if needed) prior to
 printing.

Do any of you have a wish list of reports, exports, etc that you WISHED
you had to make tracking and/or submitting an entry for a Custom award?
By Custom award, I mean those where you specify a in the Custom award
field in DX4WIN; this does NOT mean any of the built in awards that DX4WIN
does such a good job of tracking already.

In the program I wrote, I found the QSOs independent of what the Custom
award was set to. In other words, I found the QSOs based upon the award
criteria and not the Custom award name value. Another feature I thought
of adding was to (optionally) produce a .DXQ file with the Award
information filled in for those QSOs that qualify. Then all you have to
do is import the .DXQ file and your log will then have the award
information filled in for viewing from within DX4WIN.

Please let me know if you have comments or suggestions.

This has happened at least twice before to me. DX4Win is fully installed
 and
 performing just fine, then...

I walk in and find that my computer has been rebooted, most probably
Microsoft Windows has forced it to shut down. I let this computer run 24/7
otherwise so the only shut downs are those forced by Microsoft.

Dell Optiplex GX770 running XP, SP3

I start DX4WIN and EVERYTHING ABOUT IT HAS CHANGED.

The fonts are different (Ariel font which I hate), and appear too big. The
windows are different sizes and the QSO/log window is much bigger than it
was. The LAT/LON is wrong and has defaulted to somewhere else. I can reset
some of the parameters and I can get it to connect to the cluster.
 However,
the cluster spots load but all the calls seem to be grayed-out. There are
 no
colors showing stations that I still need and those that I have confirmed
etc. I can open the CW keyboard window and it will key my WinKey but the
COMM port has to be reset. I cannot change any of the screen fonts and
everything looks strange. If I try to see the Country box (showing the
bands and modes that I need for the country), I get an error that says:
 An
exception occurred !! Fixed column count must be less than column count
and I get a small box with a red X in one corner.

I swear that this happens about every 6 months (the fact that DX4WIN seems
to go through this process of resetting) since I upgraded to Version 8.5

The two prior times that this has occurred, I could never get it fixed
 until
I downloaded a new copy of DX4Win from the homepage and then it installs
 OK.
This time, I downloaded a new copy and it comes up exactly the same as
 before.. No change.

 I'm completely baffled..Any ideas?

only those *DX* stations to which I had not previously sent a QSL for
the same band/mode combination. I tried QSLsMark QSL Band/Mode, but it
marked all QSOs, including W stations.

Is there a way to do what I used to be able to do in one step?
Alternatively, is there a way to use filtering to select W/K stations

A couple of years ago, I started putting (SK) after a QSL manager's

if that manager had passed away, but there was no further QSL information
available. If the DX station asked for QSLs direct, then the manager was
removed completely. By putting the (SK) in there, it it supposed to give

Any suggestions as to what I should do with these?

If you still have the 804 installation go to subdirectory radios and copy

work for the new also. Also if you are in expert mode in dx4win you can edit

psk31 when using either LSB or USB, which was good. Does anyone else have
this problem? I am using the Yaesu FT450.

It used to follow my radio mode perfectly, now if does the following:

FM logs FM in the mode field
 AM logs AM
 CW logs CW
 USB logs SSB
 LSB logs SSB
 LSB/data logs PSK31
 USB/data logs SSB
 LSB/data logs RTTY

whereas before the upgrade in LSB/data and in USB/data it would log PSK31
 in the mode field.

Re: [Dx4win] New Laptop win7

2011-08-18 Thread Kostas Stamatis
Bernie
congratulations for your new laptop. I hope you really enjoy it.
CW with new computers is a blast.
Most simple solution is a usb to com converter and to rearrange your simple
keying interface to a 9pin com connector. You should use pin4 for cw, pin 5
for ground and pin 7 for ptt. Ofcourse you need to setup dx4win for keying
via a com port (the number depends to usb to serial converter) - DTR for CW
and RTS for ptt. dx4win's help has more on this.
These are the good news. The bad news are that you probably have problems
because of computer multitasking. So sometimes cw is not perfect. Dx4win has
less problems with this instead of other programs. I don't know for CT. A
better solution is Winkey keyer but you shouls buy it. It is not very
expencive and Dx4win supports it. Unfortunately i don't know if CT does it.
Other solution but expencive is Microham keyers. These work just perfect and
almost everything support them but are expencive.
I suggest to start with rewiring your simple interface but keep in the edge
of your mind that you probably need something more sooner or later.

I use DX4win 5.03. I just installed, installed 5.03 copied my newer save
 files to new computer.
I had a tower with xp and LPT ports and serial ports. I used a home made
cable we made for CT (with the transister) to key from LPT port to radio
 keyer
Now with the new laptop, I of course neither ports.

So I get errors packet failed to open, and more important could not
 open
 CW driver.
So how do I set this up to send CW from DX4win via program keyboard?

Also I use CT for contesting CW, (and some phone) so I will also like to
 set
 CT up to work also.

I would say I need a USB port work around?
I have DX4win program loaded and up to date.

BTW when I started DX4win the preference window had no info in it, so I
merged the ini file, and I was shocked it actually loaded all my info in
blink of eye! What a blessing, that was. 2 days customizing the new laptop
 and not finished yet!

 Tnx 73 de Bernie/WO2N.

are you sure that your label has the space for more than 1 qso? I use it

Try to change the label height and make a preview on the screen. Otherwise

Then you probably had different qsl method in each qso. For example buro in
the first qso and direct in the second one. If you have the same qsl method
then both qsos will be printed in one label, if qsl method is different then
two seperate lables will be printed.

the Y in the label field and saving it with the F10 key for each of the 2

Have you them in different groups? Then dx4win normally will print

I ended up hitting F9 to go back to logging real time and then went to

I very recently installed the updates to the DX4WIN.xx files, such as
.awd, .mas2, etc and noted that dx4win.tcp had been updated--my
preferred telnet selectio (ve7cc-1) was no longer at the top of the
list, until I logged in with it. I then noticed, after logging in to
VE7CC-1 with CCUser, Stay Alive appeared to have gone dysfunctional. The
VE7CC cluster now disconnects me after a very short period of
inactivity. Finally, I noticed that, in logging into VE7CC, it now
required my callsign, whereas previously it knew my callsign and took me
 directly to the command prompt.

What happened, and how do I restore the previous condition of almost
 unbroken connection to the Cluster?

 I am using DX4WIN 8.04 and CCuser 2.9371.

 Hi,

Can anyone on the reflector please help?

 I have two Kenwood rigs a TS950SDX and a TS570S (primarily used on 6m).
 The
TS950SDX will connect and stay connected to most logging programs (DX4Win,
Wintest, MixW, SD etc) via a Microham usb adaptor. However despite my best
endeavours The TS570S won't stay connected to DX4Win. It will to the other
programs. I always thought that all Kenwood radios used the same settings
 as
does the K3 but that it obviously not the case. I have been trying with
 the
TS570 settings since I upgraded to ver.8 and I have just updated DX4Win to
ver. 8.05 and I have tried the TS480 settings. In the past I have tried
 all
the different rig settings in FILE/PREFERENCES/RADIO always with the same
result. The rig will connect and both leds on the MicroHam DB9-K usb
interface flash showing that it is talking to the PC. But after a few
minutes the program indicates that it has lost communication with the rig
and everything freezes for a couple of minutes.

This is quite frustrating especially now when I am chasing the new PJs on
 6m.

I have not found an easy way also. But an easy way to delete the mas2 file
is to use AD1C's updater. If you run the program with the parameter -mas2,
will update the file immediately.
I think that it will work as following.
Make a second shortcut of updater in desktop. On this with right click
add -mas2
This will update mas2 file with a clean file.
After that repeat the procedure without the callsigns.

 Kostas et all,

This works FB, thanks for the advice.

How do you remove a call from the membership list?

Just deleting it from the IOTA.txt file does not remove it from the
membership list, and restarting DX4Win does not help.

I had to delete membership lists, exit DX4Win, delete the MAS2 file,
restart DX4Win, exit again and copy again the MAS2 file again to the
main directory. Then I could add the iota.txt file to membership list.

I am sure there is an easier way, I just can't figure it out!

 So here is a
guide how to use the membership list and have an alert on
 possible iota or
 other operations...

 1. Make a txt file with notepad, containing the calls you
 want to be alert.
 Call it iota.txt
 2. Right-click on the DX Spots window and select Membership
list 3. Type @ under Id if you want to have a high priority
 (yellow colour) alert
on these spots. Otherwise type just I under Id (this will
 show the calls
with an I under memb in dx spot window
4.Press add members list. You'll get a Windows file
 browser. Navigate to
the location of the iota.txt file you downloaded and click on
Open. 5. Press ok 6. If you have chosen @ in step 3, you
 must go to filepreferencespacket2
 and check the check@calls

 Note
If you use AD1C's list or your ow, have in mind that the
 above procedure
will just update the list and add some more calls... Also if
 you want to add
more calls just open the iota.txt file, add some calls and repeat the
 procedure.

No, it requires data from the CDROM. No matter what lookup system
you're using, if the Callsign/Mgr Lookup (F3) window is open, typing
ENTER in that window (when it has focus) will do a QRZ.COM lookup,
assuming DX4WIN is configured properly (see the QRZ application note I
 wrote at http://dx4win.ad1c.us)

I have asked Paul several times to add QRZ.COM lookup via the XML
interface (for subscribers), which could replace the local callbook
lookup (i.e. a single F3 would do the lookup and populate the
Callsign/Mgr Lookup window, no ENTER needed). Maybe if enough people
ask for this, it may happen some day.

[Dx4win] Callsign Alert

2011-05-29 Thread Kostas Stamatis
I use this feature to alert me for new iota numbers as i am an iota chaser.
Is possible in a future update to have more calls there. During summer
especially there are many iota activations and ususally have long calls (for
example SV8/SV1DPI) and the room on the box is not enough.
It would be wonderful to have added another solution watching the cluster
colours but i can not find a good and easy one...
Tnx in advance

PS Think that i have around 600 confirmed and the room is not enough. If
someone has a lot less...

Thanks for all the advice. I'm still having difficulties. I no long have
the error that the rig doesn't support the frequency but when I double
click on a spot the radio makes a short blip and doesn't change
 frequencies. Still sorting that out.

Just to be sure I launch my old logging software and setup the TS480. It
connected and I can set frequency TX and such. So there must still be
something I'm not setting correctly with DX4WIN.

DX4WIN is able to read band and mode information from the rig but going
the other way there is an issue.

 Any ideas?

I have a TS-480SAT and am just getting it setup as my second rig on
 DX4WIN.

I had it set as a TS870 and it was working. I guess the TS870 doesn't
have 6M since when I try to click on a spot it says bad frequency for
radio. Now down in the QSO entry field it happily displays the correct
6M frequency. Is there a better radio to set it as?

 Thanks,

[Dx4win] Fw: CW 15 21.026 default?

2011-05-24 Thread Kostas Stamatis
Mac
If you use real time you should have your radio connected with the
computer (cat control). I assume that you have not it.
The freq and mode changes because of cluster spots.
For stopping this, go to FilepreferencesPacket1 tab and uncheck Update
QSO window box.

Re: [Dx4win] MMTTY DX4WIN help needed

2011-05-16 Thread Kostas Stamatis
There is a setup guide by microham. In microham router go to help and after
that check and download u3 dx4win setup guide. Follow this guide. As i know
usb iii (and usb ii) is not capable to transmit on fsk. Mmtty alone is
needed comfsk to make fsk. Writelog and n1mm also has a similar software
interface to make the rig working fsk with these devices. Dx4win does not.
So the only way is to run rtty like afsk. This in practice means that it
doesnt work when you choose RTTY button in your rig but instead of this you
should choose PKT-LSB (if it is yaesu) or something similar (what you use
for PSK) or LSB if there is nothing similar in your radio.

Subject: [Dx4win] MMTTY DX4WIN help needed

 Hello Group.
 I Need some advice please:

Here I have instaled DX4WIN 8.05 into a new computer running Windows XP.
 As hardware I have a Microham MK2R+ and FT1000D
 MK2R+ is conneceted via USB.

If I run MMTTY as an standalone program all works fine, in the FT1000D I
 use
RTTY/LSB and I can work RTTY perfectly.

Through DX4WIN all goes fine except RTTY. RX is ok, but when I want to
 send
RTTY the transceiver goes into TX but just a continuous carrier. Nothing
 else. (RTTY/LSB selected)
If I choose PKT/LSB I can both RX TX without problem but then when real
time logging, PACK mode appears in DX4 logging window.

One thing that it could be important (??) is that when DX4WIN is running
 and
I go to the RTTY Control panel window SETUP (O), in the MMTTY MISC
tab, into the TX-PORT box, only Sound is marked, others are greyed out.
But running MMTTY as standalone, the TX-PORT Box shows COM-TxD(FSK) and
 USB
 port Limited Speed.

Any idea? This issue is driving me crazy...

First go to Fileprefernces and change User Level to expert (1st tab)
Then go to 3rd tab (qso) and change QSO date to range.
Save and exit
Now you are able to search for a certain time period
Search (f8) and find the qsos you want
Then got to qso window qso (1st column)multiple qsos operations and change
group number
Then Filteredit group names and change to the name you want
That's all
More difficult to say than to make it.

[Dx4win] Missed com port

2011-04-06 Thread Kostas Stamatis
I am sure that the com port is a software generated port, either from
microham or a usb to serial port. I get the same message occasionally. It
happens during computer's stratup procedure. I believe that the computer
still has not created the com port. Probably n1mm doesn't check if the com
port exists or not. Same with writelog. I am not sure that is really useful
this checking. If my com port is not there i will not have ptt. What's the
problem and dx4win must check it. Maybe i want just to check my dxcc, an
award, etc. Maybe it woud be better to check for com port only if i ask for
it. Or better dx4win appears a warning message when i ask for a com port
thet doesn;t exist. Especially for the cat control: ilke the way writelog
works on this. If cat control exists then i have a freq reading, if not
nothing happens (no freq). Instead of this dx4win tries for 5-6 times by
default (i have changed mine to 1) to find the radio!!! I think there is no
need for al these.

 I am using DX4WIN 8.04 with Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.

Re: [Dx4win] DX4Win and USB Ports

2011-03-16 Thread Kostas Stamatis
You will need some usb to serial convertrers. Dx4win has not problems. I
have tried old computer with many programs loaded and dx4win still plays.
But some other programs (like writelog) are very sensitive with cw keying
via a usb port. Winkeyer is a very good alternative solution on this subject
and is supported by dx4win if you want to buy one. If you have a simple cw
keying interface, it is better to connect it to the real com port. Cat
control and ptt is not problem whether is connected. If you need rtty you
will need a real com port for fsk.

The 8.05 question concerns label printing. In the past and according to

included in the greeting. This apparently is not happening in 8.05.

The second question concerns the changing of the S character to the C

Thanks for the suggestions. I can probably open a group with the contest
name and import the contest QSOs into the group. But here's the solution
that seems to work from Irek, VE4COZ.

I opened the ADIF file in NotePad (or WordPad) and from the edit menu,
 find
all CONTEST_ID and replace with NOTES. Then import into DX4Win using the
standard ADIF filter. That puts the CONTEST_ID information in the Notes
 for
 this QSO field.

I've been trying to include the contest name in a QSO window when I
 import
from a contest program (N1MM) using an ADIF file. The ADIF file contains
the field CONTEST_ID:10ARRL-DX-CW but it doesn't show up in DX4Win QSO
window. I've tried editing the ADIF file to call that field a
 QSO_NOTEARRL-DX-CW but that doesn't seem to work. I'm afraid I don't
understand how to edit the import filter to add an import field into the
 QSO window.

 Can anyone help?

As i remember i had this problem with a home made interface for my mark-v

I believe that the serial cable for a Yaesu radio is DIFFERENT than a

straight-thru cable. Some please correct me if I'm wrong.

 Hi,

I know that I am back to an old topic but since it has presently been
possible to get credits for 2010 IOTA contest by uploading the
Cabrillo log I had to bring it up again. Uploading cabrillo logs is a
way to get credits for contacts that not have been QSLed. If tagging S
or C in the award fields they will not be recognised unless these
contacts have a confirmation either from a card or LotW. It is not
possible to claim IOTA credits from contacts confirmed through LotW.
Since contacts made during the IOTA contest are accepted as credits by
RGSB without any cards, if both stations have entered their logs, it
is not possible to keep track of the IOTA award in DX4WIN.

The same problem is true for Russian oblast award, since contacts made
during RDXC could be used to claim credits.

I sincerely hope this will be changed in the next version.

 Hi folks,

Couple of questions in search of answers:

 1. I have found that when I want to minimize DX4W 8.04 screen which shows
the control panel for the MMTTY screen, the control panel will NOT
minimize. Any ideas of how to correct this?

 2. I have also found that when I want to maximize DX4W 8.04 (after
minimizing it), I cannot do so simply by clicking on the DX4W icon in the
bottom control panel of WIN 7. The only thing I can do for it is to shut
down the program and restart it, at which time all is as it should be.
Any ideas of how to correct this, as well? Similarly, although I have
checked the box for “show callsign in the task bar (or whatever they call
it) it will show ONLY if I have the cursor over the icon for the program.
Not sure what this is about, but I remember having the most recently
spotted callsign there all the time with XP.

 3. Finally, I have also found that windows will NOT stay as they should
with the “keep original positions for windows” box checked. In my case
they’re close to where they were, but the sizes of the various
boxes/windows will be slightly larger (or smaller) than the original and
consequently overlap other boxes or leave fairly significant blank spaces
 between the various boxes.

I would appreciate any info anyone has on these issues. I’ve jumped
through every hoop I can find about these things, all with no results of a
positive nature, much less a solution for it.

 Thanks in advance,

Hi all. Can anyone help me with finding info on getting a FT950 working
 with my DX4WIN 5.03 version.

I notice from checking the DX4WIN achives, that there was some
discussion back in May 2008, but nothing of recent times.

I did find a rigfile for the FT2000 on AD1C site and so far this has not
 worked for me.

I only want to read (input) to my log the mode and band info. I don't
want (not yet, as least) full control.

I have copy of the CAT Operation reference book for the FT950, but but
 is not very helpful.

I have tried a Straight serial cable, but so far no response from the
 FT950.

For that matter, what indication, if any, will the FT950 show on it's
display, if CAT control is activated?

The matter of using a Straight Serial cable is also confusing, as it
does not make sense as regards to how the comms handshaking protocol
should work, with regards to RTS/ CTS, RX/ TX data pins and DTR/ DSR at
 the PC end.

Any help would be of assistance.

 Thank you, from Ron vk3io.

Re: [Dx4win] deleted my log file!!

2010-11-21 Thread Kostas Stamatis
Don't open agn the same file (ex gm3wil). This will overwrite the backup
file.
Try find a file in your save directory, like gm3wil.~xl
Rename it to gm3wil.dxl

Subject: [Dx4win] Migration from v7 to 8 question

Just testing the test version of dx4win v8. New fields there (name and
 QTH). Trying to
import log of v7, no problem with that. Normaly, the name and QTH are
 empty.
In v7 the name and QTH was in Notes for this call field (format was
 John - Houston).
Now the question is - any idea how to convert those data into name and QTH
 field
(split name and QTH delimited with dash).
My friend plan to migrate from 7 to 8 and want to have data in right
 windows.
 Any solution?
