Sounds like everyone was putting their K2's through the paces over the
weekend.
I only got a chance to play for about 45 minutes in the ARRL 160M contest
with 75Q's and 29 sections at 5W to a dipole at 30 ft.
But last weekend in the CQWW running 100W I broke the old SOSB/80/LP record

I am pleased to report that K2 s/n 5853 is in the transmitter alignment phase,
and all is going well. Work was interrupted for a few days because we lost
power in Thursday's ice storm here in STL. The house was down to 50 deg. F,
when power was finally restored.

With XIT selected, should the readout indicate a difference in transmit
frequency when the knob is turned? Readout on my K2 varies when RIT or
RIT/XIT is selected but not when XIT is selected.
I recently called 2 stations split using XIT and found I was on their Rx
freq. Very embarrassing,
Ed, if you don't find the component with the freeze mist and plan to be in that
kind of chill often, maybe one of those chemical handwarmers underneath and
mebbe with a cheap insulated lunch bag, or plastic 3X5 file box you can keep
enuff heat rising to maintain the temp to operate. Rubbermaid
Chris,
What you are seeing is correct. Only when you go onto transmit will you see the
effect of the XIT on the frequency readout. If you want to know exactly what
frequency you will be transmitting on with XIT selected then you can select the
RIT as well. Of course you need to deselect the RIT
It will show the offset when you actually transmit.
You should engage both the RIT and XIT and then when you wiggle the
offset knob, you can see the qrg change. Then release the RIT and
you're back on the correct listening qrg and ready to xmit on the qrg
with the desired offset.
It is a pain.
Chuck,
The full 'equation' also depends on your exact filter center IF frequency.
It is better to use Spectrogram which provides a visual display of the
filter passband placement, and you can set things optimally for any pitch
that you desire. There are instructions within the K2 Dial
Chris,
hen the K2 is in receive, the receive frequency only is displayed. In
transmit, the transmit frequency is displayed (hard to see during keying).
Check the K2 manual page 94 for information on how RIT and XIT work - when
XIT is on, you can see the transmit frequency during receive by also

I recently acquired a Heil Handi-Mic with the HC-5 element, intending to use

The Heil HC-5 and HC-4 mic elements do produce less output than many other
types of mic element, and you will find a number of Posts to the List
discussing this issue. Unless these mic elements are quite close to one's
mouth it does seem that a preamp is required with the K2. I use a

Joe,
The initial problem to be solved is that there is no indication of power
output being fed back to the K2 microprocessor.
The most likely source is a bad solder connection and the second most likely
is a misplaced component.
Keep your testing periods short, ignore the high current messages
Frank,
Unfortunately the Heil HC-4 and HC-5 elements have lower output than typical
mics. There is one in the Handi-Mic set that should work well with the K2 -
and that is the one for the Icom (Heil number HM-iC) perhaps you could
arrange an exchange.
In general the Icom mics use an electret

Firstly thanks to everyone who answered my query, either on the

suggest should happen is happening. So from the RIT/XIT point there is
no problem with my K2 and I was using it correctly. On rethinking this I

The DXCC list and QRZ.com may not have caught up with the latest political

Hi everybody.
My little W-1 has been getting a bit of a workout around here. I think

Mark,
If you see the blips, then the relays should be getting voltage to the
coils.
Since the RANT works on 80 meters, your problem may be in the 160/80 meter
bandpass filter rather than the k160XV board itself (it may also be in the
VFO range select area too).
Check the VFO range select first -
For Weller products:
I would not recommend a gun to build a Elecraft kit -- that uses printed
circuit boards.
The TCP series has been made for 40+ years and still in production (WTCPT
current model).
The PT tips for this model are interchangeable for all versions from
original Weller
Thanks, Don.
I was thinking of the other voltage probe, though this might be useful
too.
As the circuit is crystal controlled and internally adjusted I think the
frequency will be correct; it is the filters I need to adjust.
