[Elecraft] Inductive Kick

2009-04-05 Thread David Robertson
Carl, I completely agree with you. I have seen 12 volt DC relays produce as much as 1000 volts peak or more when the current to the relay coil was terminated. This term was taught to me as Inductive Kick. When any coil of wire has DC current pass through it, a magnetic field is produced and

[Elecraft] RF Power

[Elecraft] Elecraft Carrying Cases

I have a K3 carrying case from Ken and his XYL and I love it. One thing I did notice is it is soft throughout the case. I had my wife make a stiffener from plastic canvas used for knitting. this is available at craft stores. My wife cut the plastic canvas material the same size as the bottom of

[Elecraft] PC Color Codes

2009-02-21 Thread David Robertson
Mike, The universal color codes that PC's use on their cound card plugs are: Red=Mic in Green=Line out Blue=Line in This is assuming your sound card is set up for analog sound out and not 6 channel digital. On some sound cards there are additional plugs for rear speakers and digital output

[Elecraft] PSK On USB

2009-02-17 Thread David Robertson
Steve, I use USB mode on PSK all the time and never had a problem with IMD. You have to make sure your compression (CMP) is set at zero (0) and keep the ALC between 1 and 5 bars. I have operated this way with my K3 for as long as I have had it with no problems. 73 Dave

[Elecraft] K3 Stereo Connector

2009-01-11 Thread David Robertson
Bud, Using a stereo connector from the line out of the computer to the line in of the K3 is okay. On the K3 line in connector, only the tip and sleeve has a connection. So you won't be shorting out the unused line output channel of the computer when using stereo cables. 73 Dave

Dave, Using 1 serial port (a real one, not a USB) I have no problems using both HRD and Digital Master 780 at the same time on my K3. I have not tried this with a usb port yet but it may work. First you have to be sure that your K3 is being controlled by HRD. Then you have to enable the IP
