Although this is not really a mod, I did replace the two SO-239 coaxial
panel receptacles with Amphenol Teflon types. I am a big proponent of

get a maximum of 3.60V from the pin 5 of U2 with R1 set at its ccw limit.
Additionally, for S meter alignment, both CAL S LO and S HI I am not seeing
the LEDs illuminate at all with either dot or bar settings. All other

I have dedected pulses every second at my qth - so hold let the agc hold
for 30ms and agc goes down... downsizing HLD to zero it works well,

This is usually caused by the 8 volt regulator output on the low side of its
tolerance. Check the 8 volt supply if it is low say around 7.5 volts ask
support to send you a replacement. In the mean time just go ahead with the

IC-756ProIII is $1861.00. The current best price on the IC-756ProIII is

Lower than 300 Hz is certainly desirable to me.
I have forty plus years on CW, and no significant
hearing loss. I do the between-the-headphones DSP

Well, Fred may prefer low pitches, but he hears it all. I've sat next
to him at Dayton (KC Suite) to copy code and for me, the super high
notes just leave me cold...almost no copy. Fred just merrily writes
down the callsigns.

you want a second Rated rig, by all means get the Pro III. You will not
get it any faster by posting to this reflector. Call Elecraft Direct
instead, They will be happy to answer your questions, then if not
I got a new pro 3 at HRO for $2500.00 no tax and no shipping.
The pro2 is going for about $1500.00 or less, the K2 would be
over $1700.00 I think.
Different radios though, the K2 is a field day rig, the Icom
is a boat anchor power hog, with lots of great features.

Great mod Matti! Always thought the K2's audio sounded a little
tight... tacked a couple of .1 uf caps across the pads per your
instructions and it sounds noticeably better.
It is an easy mod and I heartily encourage others to try it...easy to

Got an e-mail from Don's XYL yesterday morning as I was (literally)
walking out the
door for a trip.
Don came thru the surgery well.
Apparently only one 'spot' was found on his liver and he asked that
it be sent off
for pathology.
Nancy said he was joking with the nurses and doing well.
K3 S/N 593 arrived today in Sunnyvale, CA
was ordered on august 28th
doing inventory now.. so far all is there ;-)

Bill, consider a KX1. I hadn't built any kits since the 1960's Heathkit
days, and I was pretty rusty. I had become an appliance operator.
I started with an Elecraft dummy load kit, and then a little oscillator, and
then I was ready for the KX1. It's a cool little radio.
