Recently, I moved my K3 to work with cables behind it, and noted that 2 of
the small case screws had fallen out and were on the desktop. Prior to
this, the radio had not been moved for at least a year. Anyone else notice

There are ways to send CW in SSB mode. But aside from that...
In SSB mode the standard filter width is around 2.7/2.8 kHz so the signal
you heard was somewhere in that range. When you switched to CW mode, the
normal bandwidth changed to 400Hz and you station was somewhere outside that

eyesight, which was failing at that time, has now reached the legally blind
state. I have developed a simple problem - panel lights go out after power
is applied for about two seconds, but rig continues to work FB.

Interesting, but wouldn't you also have to know which ANT jack on the
back of the K3 had the KPA500? How is it possible for the firmware to
know? The rule would be if KPA500 enters Operate mode and the K3 is
switched to the ANT jack that had the KPA500

I think the bypass is a real relay, are u thinking that the power to the relay
was somehow on? I wonder if it's more likely that the relay contact was not
quite conducting for receive. And turning on the amp cycled the relay wiping

This is not quite true. Indeed, when powered off from the front panel, most of
the amplifier has its power removed, and things are placed into a powered-down
state. The micro controller on the front panel board remains powered so that it
can accept power-on commands, but pretty much everything
