it was the modified Elecraft cable and not a standard cable that may have

Interesting. Where did you come across the $41 price? I am replacing the
2.7K with the 2.8K but they are charging me the full $120 for the 2.8K but
they are giving me a $30 rebate for removing the 2.7K.

When I built my second K2, I had the same experience as Tom. The adhesive
came off when I peeled off the paper. Scott sent me a couple more pads but
they behaved the same way so I put a drop of rubber cement on them and glued
them on.

I find it VERY difficult to judge the quality of my signal on another local
receiver. Rely on what others say rather than on what your ears hear.

AGC's effect? The current AGC setting has little or no effect on the noise
when, with an antenna connected and no signal, I turn the AGC off and on but
it has a large effect on moderate and strong signals.
