These units are not UL approved and cannot be installed in any bay area where
the code requires it. There have been a couple of fires caused by the
charging station which will not be covered by insurance
since no building permit was obtained. Be warned.

Actually, that reminds me: I read somewhere that the dc/dc is off when
the car is off and instead it uses the small solar panel on the roof to
try to keep the 12v battery charged.

Peri,
I have checked my (2011) Leaf with LeafSpy when in Acc mode and it does
not charge the aux battery, I saw the aux battery voltage declining (and
a current out of the battery).
As soon as the car is started *or* the car is charging, then the aux
battery is being maintained by the DC/DC

Ok, I can answer some of the questions with respect to a Leaf.
1. Acc only: You press the start button without holding down the brake
pedal.
2. Acc charging: yes, heating I don't think so. (However there is a way
to do it remotely through their carwings system, never tried it.)
3.
Thanks, you answered all the question very clearly. I still need some
clarification on #7. Most industrial monitoring and alarm systems prioritize
faults. A warning is a malfunction that does not stop the process. A fault
will stop some action. Most ICE cars have a Engine Check Light.

I can only tell you how MY conversion works.
1) Yes, it has an ACC position. (normal car key ignition switch).
2) Heater yes, don't have AC. (Heater is 2KW off main pack)
3) Not
Robert,
(1+2) All factory EVs and conversions that I have seen have an ACC key
position.
This position typically does the same as in an ICE: it does not power up
the drivetrain, it only enables some 12V loads such as radio, lights and
cig lighter to name a few, but the aux battery is not charged
Your questions are clear but your context is not. Are you asking
- what mass produced EVs do in general?
- what a specific EV does?
- what the generally assumed best practices are?
- what is physically required?

Specifically, WHICH EV.
A conversion - would depend on how the conversion was built.
Each OEM vehicle is slightly different.

I ask the question in a previous post "does anyone know the start up sequence

Absolutely. And the Smart was originally conceived in the mid-1990s as an

I suspect that the journalist has his facts wrong.
He writes:
"I was also surprised to note it had a standard heated steering wheel,
which you might think would be an energy hog, as well as standard heated
seats."
This shows ignorance. Heated seats and steering wheel put the heat

CVT transmission? In an EV? Seriously?
No successful OEM electric vehicle has any sort of transmission, at
least none that I am aware of.
Touting a transmission on a prototype EV is a huge red flag. It shows
that the design team is very inexperienced (or was overruled by
management, which has

Most EVs and Hybrids have at least three contactors. The sequence is:
* Close One battery lead and check for leakage
* Drop that relay and close the other lead with a series resistor and
check for leaks
* Bring the first one back in to power up still via the series resistor
for a few
Which EV, there may be similarities but I don't imagine they are all identical
except in the main functions.
My EV has one main contractor so when it closes everything powers up at the
same time. Some systems have a relay on the negative side that powers every
thing but the inverter or
