Will do. I've been running the ESE v3.8 scanner on a small sites server for around a year now, never had any problems, but then there's only a 2gb store and about 40 mailboxes. I guess I'm trying to do best practice as I'm effectively going to be starting from scratch with these new boxes.

Paul, I'm probably overly paranoid, but I would not install MBSA on the Exchange box. If memory serves me correctly, you can run this software remotely and still gather the patch information. Avoid installing Outlook on the server. You don't mention this, but I always install the network
