2013-09-12 Thread Ann Woelfle Bater
That formula for water is way too extravagant. I basically don't drink water at
all. If I were to follow your 'rule' I would be imbibing 70 oz of water per
day. I could swim in that amount. These people who walk around with water
bottles and who can't seem to make it to the end of their driveways without a
canteen astound me. This is a fairly recent phenomenon, all this water
drinking. If you aren't thirsty why drink? Surely the body can tell us if it
needs moisture. My stomach sure as hell lets me know when it is empty or my
bladder when it is full or my skin if there is something pricking it. Drinking
so much water has to raise hell with the kidneys.

Judy, this is neither an academic forum nor a journalistic one. I am simply
another poster sharing what has been helpful to me. I think I read this in the
book You're Not Sick You're Thirsty. It was first published many years ago so
I'm not surprised that new findings are available.

Judy had written:
Share, citing "some people in the health industry" does not give what you say
any additional credibility, it just makes you appear to be trying too hard to
sound as if you're well informed. If you can't give a specific reference,
better just to say, "It's my understanding that..." and let yourself be
challenged if anybody disagrees. Then go see if you can find a reference.

Well noozguru it sort of makes sense that kaphas should drink less water and

err on the side of too much rather than not enough.

nearly 60 years. He certainly was a dedicated spiritual teacher
also, regardless of what MJ may think and say. I remember even in
the end, him giving an interview even within the last few weeks of
his death saying the same thing again that he started out with even
back in the 1950's. He was revolutionary:

Unchanging, the enduring message:
Maharishi’s basic message was the importance of practicing
TM. "If more people meditated, the world would be a better
place. Meditation brings peace and harmony to one’s life, and
reduces stress. If one meditates regularly, life becomes better
automatically. During the course, he clarified the understanding of
the technique: TM allows the conscious mind to experience the source
of thought. Daily experience of TM brings this awareness into daily
life. Sitting quietly while meditating brings increased energy to
daily life in the same way that pulling an arrow back to a still
place on the bow allows for the release of great energy when the
arrow is shot forward."

Seraphita,

In this particular case, I don't believe it matters what your particular
religion is.  I'm trying to describe a natural phenomenon using an ancient
model, such as jyotish, and the scientific model such as the Big Bang Theory.
In the end, they're describing the Unified Field (the Supreme Being) that is
the source of everything in the universe or the multiverse.

I don't want to get into the details of belief in each religious dogmas.  I'm
sure they're justified using the reasons and logic within each religion.  But I
do believe there is unity among all religions which should be emphasized these
days rather than the incongruity.  The strict rules and fundamentalism are the
source of misunderstandings among the various religions today and contribute to
the evils of terrorism, religious persecutions and wars--which brings us back
to the topic of Syria and the Middle East.

combination heretical? The Inquisition (aka Congregation for the Doctrine of
the Faith) might be kicking in your door in the early hours . . .

--- In fairfieldlife@yahoogroups.com, wrote:

 Seraphita,

That was an interesting video clip.  Sometimes we wonder why the US government
appears to be backing the wrong side all the time in the Middly East.

Nonetheless, I wanted to make a point about why fasting and meditation work for
promoting peace not only for Syria, but for the world as well.  In jyotish,
fasting and meditation are represented by the 12th house of loss.  Literally,
it is the death or transformation (represented by the 8th house) of the stomach
and thoughts, represented by the 5th house.  Thus the 8th house from the 5th
house is the 12th house, the house of loss and meditation or fasting.

The karma of meditation and fasting can be found in the 10th house of the 12th
house, which is the 9th house of Dharma and Knowledge.   The 9th house
represents transcendental consciousness or samadhi while in meditation.  The
same house represents the gain of knowledge during the fast, such as 'Man does
not live by bread alone...'  Thus, by increasing dharma and knowledge through
fasting and meditation, death decreases and peace is restored.

MMY has described this dynamic cosmic law when he stated one must 'water the
root in order to enjoy the fruit'.  The act of watering the root (the unified
field) is by meditation and fasting.

We can understand the power the unified field when we see the amount of power
needed to run a particle accelerator to recreate the Big Bang itself.  Dr.
Leonard Susskind, professor of physics from Stanford University, estimated that
it would take a particle accelerator the size of the Milky Way Galaxy and the
power of the suns within to recreate the conditions during the creation of the
universe itself.

As such, we can appreciate the fact that this same unified field can be
accessed by the human brain through meditation alone.  This is the power of
accomplishing MORE by doing LESS.

"The better of two evils" you mean. For the Christians definitely the better.
Assad is himself from a minority group in Syria so it's in his interests to
maintain freedom of religion (not freedom of political expression, obviously).
He's an Alawite, a mystical sect so secretive no one outside the faith is sure
what they believe! Along with Islamic festivals, they also seem to celebrate
Christian festivals, including the birth of Jesus and Palm Sunday.

It's a shitty choice though: do you cast in your lot with heart-eating,
Catholic priest murdering Al Qaeda rebels or would you prefer someone who uses
chemical weapons on his own civilians?

This whole Middle East nightmare is a consequence of the British and French
carving up the Ottoman Empire after WWI. Maybe the best solution would be to
give Syria back to the Turks!

Spaghetti and meatballs is almost as delicious as pizza. But is peace worth
having at ALL costs, I wonder? Doesn't that depend on whose terms the peace is
established? The Christians in Syria are supporting Assad as they've seen what
happened to their co-religionists in Iraq. If the secular government is
overthrown, they will be targeted by jihadist rebels calling for the
establishment of an Islamic state and their Christian communities (possibly the
oldest in the world - they even speak Aramaic!) will be destroyed.

ok, punditster, this reminds me of that part in the Gita where Maharishi
explains that at a certain point the devotee has a choice between uniting

mean the Golden Chain I guess. One wants to continue feeling that flow of

Are you refering to Judy? She being an editor has a tendency
to micro-focus. Sometimes, larger picture can be missed.

Tell me Xeno, does Einstein's 'thought experiments' done in
a similar meditative state. Nicola Tesla was another person
who could do it.

Well, he better get his semantics right, or there is always
the risk of a wide swathe of reviewers misunderstanding it.

If natural selection is a zero sum game, they will
eventually figure it out with game theories. In the end, it
could be just abstract mathematical intelligence.

You can say about Yahoo! what you want, but at least they managed to get an
(almost) new logo.

But in TM some use the new logo, like this letter of Hagelin, but the official
American website www.tm.org , still sticks to the old bubble logo, and a few
others like, uk.tm.org use the new one.

Dear Governors and Sidhas,
During times of tension, and when potentially dramatic events threaten our
nation and the world, Maharishi would remind us that we possess a singularly
powerful technology for restoring harmony and security in national and world
consciousness. Group practice of the TM® and TM-Sidhi® programs has been shown
time and again to help defuse the buildup of tensions that might otherwise
erupt in violence and war.
In this light we encourage you, at this delicate time, to enjoy group practice
in your area as much as possible—and when it is not possible, to synchronize
your Yogic Flying times with others in your area. Yogic Flyers commonly say
that group practice revitalizes their program and immediately results in a
rapid personal growth of bliss and fulfillment.
Better yet, if you live in Fairfield—or if it is convenient to go there, even
for a week—now is an opportune time to join the most powerful
Coherence-Creating Group in the country, and really help tip the scales toward
an Invincible America and a more harmonious world.
Synchronized Flying Times
Starting immediately and throughout September, we encourage all Governors and
Sidhas across the country to enhance the peace-creating power of their program
by coordinating their Yogic Flying with thousands of other Sidhas.
Effective immediately, suggested times to begin Yogic FlyingSM in each time
zone are as follows:

Eastern Time
Morning: 7:30 AM (optional: 9:15 AM to lift off with the Invincible America
Assembly in the Golden Domes)
Evening: 6:45 PM (in synchrony with the Golden Domes)
Central Time

There are clear, distinct, differences between 'materialism'
'naturalism' and 'reductionism'.

Nagel probably uses these terms interchangably and with some
ambiguity.

'Materialism' is a much more generic term and is used as an
opposite to 'spiritualism'.

'Naturalism' and 'Reductionism' are more specific terms,
relating to the methodology of Science.

One of the things that continues to amuse me is the way that
folks who have been exposed to the TMO's dogma and the

This is understandable, but I think it's good to "step back"
from time to time and view these "normal" practices the way
that a person on the street who has never heard of TM, let
alone the TM-sidhis or any of that stuff, might react to an
announcement such as this, and what the reality of it looks
like. We are, after all, talking about an attempt to coordinate
a bunch of primarily old people bouncing on their butts
twice a day while grunting and groaning for peace.

To help with this "stepping back" process, try to imagine how
*you* might react if you read about a large Christian group that
had announced the JE and were attempting to drum up support
for it.

The JE is, of course, the Jesus Effect. That's what happens
when True Believers wave their arms about while shouting
"PRAISE JZUS!" at the top of their lungs:

Scientific evidence has shown that this practice is most effective
at generating the JE (and thus reducing crime, eliminating porn
and gay marriage, and otherwise rebuking the dastardly influence
of Satan) when performed in large groups. The larger the group,
the greater the effect of the JE.

JE practice is SO important that all Christians should join in
by performing the JE ritual shown above at least twice a day, at
the prescribed times, so that the combined multitude of voices
shouting PRAISE JEEEZUS! rises to the heavens and catches
the holy ear of our Savior.

Failure to join in this holy arm-waving and shouting campaign
should be viewed by True Christians as the act of cowardice and
betrayal it is, and those who fail to join in should be treated as
the traitors and heretics they are. Burning these slackers at the
stake is considered optional, but for the record it *is* condoned
by scripture, in Matthew 69:42.

True True Christians will not limit themselves to practicing the
JE Technique twice a day, but will do it everywhere they go,
24/7. Can't you imagine a world in which almost everyone you
see on the streets is waving their hands about and shouting
PRAISE JEEEZUS!? That would truly be (dare I say it?)
Heaven On Earth.

:-)

Thanks, Seraphita, this is the missing piece of the puzzle for me. If Assad
TRULY supports religious freedom, then I support him. Or for the Christians is
he simply the worse of two evils?

Spaghetti and meatballs is almost as delicious as pizza. But is peace worth
having at ALL costs, I wonder? Doesn't that depend on whose terms the peace is
established? The Christians in Syria are supporting Assad as they've seen what
happened to their co-religionists in Iraq. If the secular government is
overthrown, they will be targeted by jihadist rebels calling for the
establishment of an Islamic state and their Christian communities (possibly the
oldest in the world - they even speak Aramaic!) will be destroyed.

 Seraphita,

As a matter of fact, I had a delicious spaghetti and meatballs meal after the
fast.  And, overall I still lost a few pounds of weight.  So, it was a win-win
situation.

If Pope Francis ask for another fast for other reasons, I'll do it again.  It
appears that he's starting a Pope Francis Effect.  And you don't have to be a
pandit to do it.
