OTOH I very much enjoy loving and being loved; understanding and
being understood; tickling and being tickled by humor and self-
recognition -- some of the reasons I *do* post here a lot, which
don't have a whole lot to do with persona, opinion and so on
AFAICS :-)

...said the pot to the kettle. :-) Do YOU post a lot because you
care what other personas think of your persona? Do you care whether
other personas happen to agree with the opinion your persona might
be expressing in any given moment? These things are not particularly
high on my list, anyhow, and I could be wrong but I doubt they rank
very high on yours :-)

*lol* I apologize, Akasha; it has been a very very long time since I
was concerned with such; I didn't have that reference in my ready-
access file. It was indeed both a clever and logical twist on my
pun :-)

Yes. Only the mind thinks THAT is empty and cold and barren, while *at
the same time* recognizing it is completely satisfied, rock-bottom at

fullness, incarnating more and more fully with the attentive breath,
for prana is Brahman :-)

Oops, it isn't MY blackbox (nor is it black, nor a box, but of course,
you knew that didn't you?)

I guess I was fortunate, in that none of the experiences
in my life of self dropping away and leaving only Self have
had the least bit of dread or resistance associated with
them. Interestingly enough, it was the same with acid,
back in my hippie days. Everyone I knew had at least
one "bummer," in which the fear of losing self became so
predominant that the person "freaked out." Me, for what-
ever reason, I just went with it and had great unity exper-
iences. Go figure.

All this brou-ha-ha (ha ha) has made me remember a great
rap by the Rama fellow I studied with, dealing with this
same subject:

"At the border of nirvana there's a crossing. And
when you reach the border of nirvana, someone will
come up to you and inform you that if you enter into
nirvana everything that you've ever loved will be
lost. You will be alone. There will be the most
terrible aloneness that you can imagine. You will
be alienated from everything, including yourself,
forever. A sense of drifting in a cold, desolate
space forever.

"At that moment, O nobly-born, all the images from
all of your lives will come forward and will demand
your attention. They will say, 'Don't cross over there.
You will lose us and you will be sorrowful and empty
and void.'

"If you listen to what that fellow at the border
tells you, then you won't cross over. You'll go
back to all the things that have bound you and
limited you also. You'll go back to both because
in the world of duality you have the pairs of
opposites.

"If you listen to me, which no one does, fortunately,
I would suggest that it's not like that at all.
That when that fellow comes up to you and warns you
against crossing the border, you'll say, 'Listen,
several lifetimes ago I read one of Rama's books and
while he very rarely says anything of any value
whatsoever, there was one point he made which I put
on a 3x5 file card which I happen to have in my back
pocket. And I was going to review it because he said
I'd run into you. I didn't actually believe it at the
time but now that I've run into you I just happen to
have this file card tucked away here and I'd like
to examine it for a moment, if you don't mind.'

"And of course he'll say, 'We don't have time, the
worlds are turning, existence is manifesting...'
And you'll say, 'Just a minute!'

You'll take out your faded 3x5 file card, it's a few
lifetimes old -- actually, it would be better if you
had a plastic one which you had laser engraved, because
as we all know plastic lasts forever -- and it says,
'DON'T LISTEN.' Hopefully, it will be in the right
language.

"Don't listen because in nirvana it's not like that.
It's not empty or cold or barren. You don't remember
that the ecstasy and completion of absorption in God
is so fantastic that you can't possibly have lost
anything because all the things you've always loved
and always experienced came forth from there and exist
there and are always there."

Speaking of sexual aberration, it goes the other way too- I recall
Maharishi talking about the small self holding the Self in bondage
(!).

It would be fascinating if it weren't so scary.
A self so terrified of losing itself that it
sees Self as attempted rape.

It's interesting how "rape" is cognate with "rapture," and too how
the self can see the "rapture" of the Self as a "rape,"
and "therapist" as "the rapist." The issue would as always I suppose
boil down to informed consent. Does the moth ever really consent to
be immolated in the flame it dances around?

The problem with watching too much TV is that you
start creating your own fantasies and mistaking them
for real life.

Why anyone would want to create *boring* fantasies
is another question entirely. But I guess maybe
real life is just too challenging for some.

Ohmygod, she's actually serious! :-)

The small self is REALLY feeling threatened this time.

Yup, that's one of the rapist's favorite excuses:
All she needed was a really good screwing.

Not really. The real-life model for my made-up
Springer character and *her* infinitely-repeating
tales of woe are much more boring than the fictional
version. The Springer babe has been known to laugh
at herself at least once in the past ten years... :-)

Ah! Fodder for Rick and his fascination with all the
kiss-and-tell babes with regard to Maharishi. Perhaps
all that ever happened was that he tried to tell them
something about themselves they didn't want to hear,
and in their minds, that became rape.

So Maharihi's off the hook. Don't you all feel much
better now?

I've switched channels, and haven't really
been following "Wheel Of Karma," but I thought
I'd let you guys know that over on the Springer
channel the guest is a favorite "repeat guest."
She's been on the show several times a year for
over ten years now, and they keep asking her back.
She's a favorite with the audience, because every
time she's on, she tells the same old tale of
woe. On every show, people on the stage and
people from the audience give her sincere advice
about things she could do to be a little happier,
but she never does any of them. She says it's
because intellectually, she has analyzed each
of the suggestions and knows that they cannot
work. Me, I just think it's because she likes
the attention she gets from being on the Springer
show, and doesn't know what she'd say on it if
she weren't miserable any more.

Gotta go now...she's about to tell the same
story she's told hundreds of times now, and
I have to listen closely to see if anything's
changed since the last time she was on...

I appreciate how it could look like this intellectually, and how it
is evidently your experience, but I don't find it to be the case
intellectually or experientially at all. Part of the paradox, I
suppose.

I can see the appeal of this belief-system. It is nice and neat, and
saves us the trouble of having to take any personal responsibility
for our perceptions :-)

Those that are constipated often are oblivious to others' concerns,
since they are focussed on trying to "push" their "agendas" out for
all to endure.

But that's yet another iteration of the regress.
"Desire to grow" and "appreciate the Now" are
mutually exclusive, not just intellectually but
experientially.

Each is valid on its own level, but as long as
you're doing one, you aren't doing the other.

That's why this kind of thing has never worked

Akasha, your attempts to get me to take you seriously
aren't going to work any better than Judy's. :-)

But now that you mention it, there just *was* an
incident of throne-throwing on Springer. Two rajas
started whacking at each other with their chairs, and
while the Jerryguards were distracted trying to break
up the fight, their wives (whose names, in accordance
with TM etiquette, were never mentioned) got into this
awesome, screaming catfight, trying to rip each other's
saris off. And someone once said that television was
a vast wasteland...

Yes, Judy, I am familiar with your "infinite regress" argument -- it
just doesn't apply here, at least in any meaningful way. The fact
is, these techniques do work, if we really feel we have a sincere
need or desire to "grow."

The truth is, of course, there *is* no growth; we *are* throroughly
enjoying the Now, always have been, always will be. I was using a
spacetime "perspective" to communicate with any small portion of Us
which might still believe itself "trapped" in those illusory
limitations. But I am happy if you are -- and even if you aren't :-)

Rory needs to have things repeated to him before he gets it sometimes.

(You have been saying "stop this nonesense, stop harassing me" for 10

No, it's not, on several counts. It *is* the show
where the contestant demonstrates that he thinks
he's a lot more clever than he really is.

The correct answer to the question was even right
there at the top of the previous post in this
exchange all along (now snipped in deference to
Akasha, but that was why I had left it all in).

Yes indeedydoo. If we aren't sufficiently appreciating
the obstacles to be able to integrate them as aspects of
our Wholeness, and we think it would be better if we did,
we should practice this technique to get rid of all the
nasty obstacles to that appreciation and integration
sitting there in the way.

Think "infinite regress," Rory. Think "going around in
circles."

Ask yourself whether there might be something just a bit
peculiar about the concept of "a technique to enable
us to appreciate the Now."

Oh. I didn't realize it was a Quiz Show. Sorry.

Is this "Wheel Of Karma," that show where the person
who has never experienced clear, sustained, 24/7
witnessing gets to define it, and its relationship
to enlightenment as a whole, for those who have?

I'd watch, but "Jerry Springer" is on the other
channel... :-)

*lol* Yes, I appreciate(d) your intellectual attempt to turn this
into an infinitely regressing paradox, but didn't really think it
was worth commenting on :-)

An important distinction that is often lost on those
who have spent decades immersed in the TM metaphors
of "stress" and "knots of stress" and "unstressing,"
none of which actually exist, or were ever barriers
to the realization of enlightenment.

If you would rather not do the Work, that is (apparently) your

I haven't dated anyone named barb since I was in the
TM movement, but as I remember it, she definitely
made parts of me get bigger.

Yes indeedydoo. If we're not appreciating the Now,
and we think it would be better if we did, we should
practice this technique so we can get rid of all
those nasty obstacles sitting there in the way.

And what is the "it" you believe the definition in

(1) The small self *is* Judy. Judy's the
illusion.

(2) Being in ignorance is *not* what Judy is
complaining about, never has been.

(3) All three of you--Rory, Barry, and Jim--have
completely missed the point I was making to Rory.
I really didn't think I was being *that* subtle.

Take another look at what I wrote a little earlier
in the thread, commenting on Rory's attempt to
play therapist:

"If I work *really really hard* on this, someday
in the future I may come to be able to appreciate
the Now."

Jim, try thinking about this one above your head,
see if you can pick up on one of those effortless
answers.

If you're still stumped, revisit the original
context:

If I work *really really hard* on this, someday
in the future I may come to be able to appreciate
the Now.

and fully grounded.

And Judy will keep complaining about being in
ignorance. It's a status quo thang... :-)
