Terrie, I am so sorry to hear about Jake.  I can't imagine losing three in one month, that would be so hard.  Seventeen and a half is a very good life, he was lucky to have you.   Hugs to you and yours, Beth

Hideyo, I am so very sorry for your loss of Olive.  I can not imagine losing four in such a short period of time.  I know you did everything in your power to treat their symptoms, but I do agree with Belinda about the need for a necropsy on one of these cats.  I understand that it is upsetting to

Hi Elizabeth, I don't have any experience with cats and UTI's.  I just wanted to write and say good luck with him at his appointment, and good job jumping on it quickly, whatever it is.  Let us know how it goes.   Best wishes, Beth

Shoot, I'm in Macomb Township!  If I had received this post back in August, I might have been able to help them out.  That is when I found out that my Will Feral is positive.   He has no manners, throws himself at my dinner plate, tucks his fur mice under my body at 3:00 in the morning and fishes

LOL!!! At least she didn't call you slow!  I worked many years ago at an art supply store with my mom.  We didn't advertise that we were related, so many people didn't know.  I eventually moved into outside sales of engineering supplies for the company.  My mom was still working in the store.  A

Hi Kayte, I'll try to give a quick run down on FIP as I understand it.  It begins with something called Feline Corona Virus (FCoV).  This is a very contagious but normally harmless virus that many cats have.  It is estimated that 85% or more of shelter cats and cattery cats have it.  It lives in

Hi Elizabeth, glad it was helpful.  One thing I forgot to mention is that FCoV is a longer-lived virus.  Unlike FeLV, it can remain alive outside of a cat's body for at least many weeks.  I've read that a new kitten/cat should not be aquired for about 7 weeks after an FIP death, just in case it i

I don't know if they can still be shedding FCoV while in the throes of FIP or not. . .  I do think that I've read that titre tests measure the antibodies present, not the virus itself, so a very immune compromised cat may have exhausted their ability to produce antibodies and test negative even

Yup, my understanding as well.  Pretty darn useless test.  Dangerous even.  Somebody wrote in today to the FIP list that the shelter they work at has almost 100 cats and has decided to euthanize any with a titre of 1:1600 or above.  She doesn't know much about the disease, but sounds like she wan
