Re: [FOSSology] Question on REST API and Scancode

2024-01-11 Thread Gaurav Mishra via lists.fossology.org
Hello Gonzalo,

Short answer: Yes, all agents in FOSSology are smart and do not scan the same
file again unless the agent version changes (a new version of FOSSology is
installed).

Long answer:
When you say, "job does not get carried out", you mean the job did not run (you
can check the same in UI from Jobs > My Recent job).
Or you mean no files were scanned (0 items processed)?

If it is the later case, it is explained in the short answer above.
If it is the first case, then there is something wrong. You can open an issue
on the GitHub repo for the same.

With best regards,
Gaurav Mishra

Subject: [FOSSology] Question on REST API and Scancode

Hello everyone,

I am not sure if this is the right place to ask such a question. If it is not,
I would be grateful if you could direct me to the right channel. I have the
following question:

When trying to run a scancode analysis Job through the REST API on a folder
that has already been analyzed with scancode, I get the standard response that
it was successful, yet the Job does not get carried out. I looked into GIT, and
noticed there was this pull
request/change<https://github.com/fossology/fossology/pull/2569>, but I am not
sure if has any consequence on the way the scancode jobs are carried out. I
looked from the server side, and the REST Request does get received, so it
leads me to believe that if there are no changes in the files, the job is smart
enough, and realizes it does not need to be carried out again.

I am currently using FOSSology version 4.3.0 (code revision 8b76e7) in a docker
container.

Thanks,

Gonzalo

Re: [FOSSology] CI/CD Confirmation

2023-08-15 Thread Gaurav Mishra via lists.fossology.org
Hello Gonzalo,

The suggested way to use FOSSology in CI environments is by using the scanner
image you mentioned.
https://github.com/fossology/fossology/wiki/FOSSology-scanners-in-CI
You can find the relevant code and Dockerfile in
https://github.com/fossology/fossology/tree/master/utils/automation

The docker image essentially contains the scanner binaries, and the Wiki page
explains how to use them with GitLab/Travis and now with GitHub Actions as well.
We do not have yet tried it with Jenkins. But we are open to have PR for the
same.

For the REST API, you can find the documentations for the relevant endpoints at
https://github.com/fossology/fossology/blob/master/src/www/ui/api/documentation/openapi.yaml
There is also a python project which provides these endpoints as a library. It
can be used to write a custom program which integrates with your environment.
You can find out more about the same at the project:
https://fossology.github.io/fossology-python/

With best regards,
Gaurav Mishra

Hello everyone,

My name is Gonzalo, and I just started with Fossology. I have just noticed
there is a REST API interface with which one can trigger analysis jobs. I would
just like to confirm that this is the official/suggested way to integrate
Fossology into Jenkins/Bamboo/(your CI/CD platform of choice).

I also noticed there seems to be "scanner images" for GitLab and Travis?

https://github.com/fossology/fossology/wiki/FOSSology-scanners-in-C

Are there any plans to develop this image as well for Jenkins?

Greetings,

Gonzalo

[FOSSology] FOSSology community - bi-weekly meeting

2022-11-16 Thread Gaurav Mishra
Hello everyone,

I hope this email finds you well.
I am writing this email to everyone who had responded to it earlier. Apologies
if you did not want to receive this email.

Since we have conflict with SW360 community call at our regular call timings,
we would like to propose new meeting timings for the upcoming calls.
We are thinking the same 30 minutes, bi-weekly setup would work well as we do
not have large volume of discussion per call.
However, instead of using Wednesdays, we can have calls on Thursday or Fridays.

Here are some timings I would like to propose for the call. Please goto doodle
and vote for timing which suits you the best.
(Please remember to check the time zone settings)

https://doodle.com/meeting/participate/id/dBNv6Ekd

If you do not find any suitable timing, please let us know by replying to this
email.

Have happy holidays!

With kind regards
Gaurav Mishra

[FOSSology] FOSSology 4.1.0 Release

2022-05-20 Thread Gaurav Mishra
Hello everyone,

We have released FOSSology 4.1.0 today.

The release 4.1.0 introduces new agent ScanCode, used to scan for licenses,
copyrights etc.
The release 4.1.0 also introduces new feature to automatically deactivate the
copyrights and cutter removal. There is a special note about this feature.

  * As this feature can still be improved, we are marking this as
experimental and not recomended for productive instances.
  * Also this feature requires to install additional dependencies. One needs
to run fo-postinstall with --python-experimental.

Major changes since 4.0.0:

  *   Add a new agent scancode-toolkit
  *   Deciding copyrights with Spacy
  * Add new decision type non-functional
  * Admin can delete any upload
  * Fix unicode replacement in exportLicenseRef
  * Provide server version on REST api
  * Update license texts from SPDX
  *   Clixml-xml based reporting format

  * Security fix for JWT tokens
  *   Migration fix for copyrights

Re: [FOSSology] User queries-rest api

Hello Sona,

I am not sure about the integration with fossdriver, as it is not updated for a
while.
You can have a look at python library at:

I also found this project called meta-spdxscanner in yocto and it might be
helpful to you: https://git.yoctoproject.org/meta-spdxscanner/tree/README

Hi,
I would like to integrate fossology with rest api in yocto 3.1.2 for generating
spdx files. I had tried with fossdriver but I'm getting NOASSERTION license
field. So I just have to clarify some things.

1.Is it possible to integrate yocto 3.1.2 with rest api?
2.And if it yes.. Kindly share the reference links.

Thanks in advance.

Sona

Re: [FOSSology] Recovery of deleted copyright statements

2022-02-09 Thread Gaurav Mishra
Hello,

Since 3.10.0 (PR: https://github.com/fossology/fossology/pull/1914), FOSSology
has ability to recover copyright text as it is entered in a new table.

In earlier releases, it was a overwrite on the actual text. So it can no longer
be recovered.

However, deleting the uploads which contains the files in question and reupload
them again should solve the issue. As the agents in FOSSology does not rescan
same files over again.

Best regards, Gaurav Mishra

2022-01-12 Thread Gaurav Mishra
Hello all,

Thank you for participating in the Doodle.
As of now, most people (7/8) opted for Wednesdays 10:30 - 11:00 AM CST (15:00 -
15:30 IST).

I will close the Doodle by EOD today and send the updated invite for the
meeting.

Have a great day,
Gaurav Mishra

Subject: [FOSSology] Reminder: Preference for bi-weekly meeting

Hello all,

For the bi-weekly meetings, we had an idea to change the timings of the meeting
and shift from busy Monday to some other day.

For the same, I have created this doodle to understand everyone's availability.
Please spare 2 minutes and select the best suited time for you or leave a
comment in case your preferred time is not in the options.

You can change the timezone in the tool as well.

[FOSSology] Application for GSoC 2022

2022-01-10 Thread Gaurav Mishra
Hello everyone,

I hope you are having a good start with 2022.

There was one email from Google in GSoC mentor mailing list that the org
applications for 2022 will open from February 7. The deadline for the same is
February 21.

In preparation for the same, we have created this discussion on GitHub to
collect some project ideas.
https://github.com/fossology/fossology/discussions/2140

Note that there are some changes in the program. I have tried to summarise the
same in the discussion.

Please submit the ideas you would like to be part of our application as mentor
org in GSoC 2022.
Also, please drop a message on the same discussion if you would like to be a
mentor if our application is selected.
You can go through the 2021 ideas list at
https://github.com/fossology/fossology/wiki/Google-Summer-of-Code-Proposals-2021#topic-proposals

Please respond to the email if you have any questions.

With best regards,
Gaurav Mishra

[FOSSology] Dropping support for PHP5

2020-12-14 Thread Gaurav Mishra
Hello all,

We recently merged a branch https://github.com/fossology/fossology/pull/1830 on
GitHub. From this point on, the smallest version supported by FOSSology will be
PHP 7.0.8 (was PHP5.6 before).

PHP5 has reached its end-of-life two years ago but it was still shipped with
Debian Jessie so we kept the minimum supported version to 5.6.
Since Debian Jessie also reached its EOL and is no longer supported by
FOSSology, we decided to drop support for PHP5 as well.

With this change, we can update composer dependencies much easier and faster.

We request you all to update your PHP version if your servers are still running
PHP5 as future releases might not work for you.

With best regards,
Gaurav Mishra

[FOSSology] FOSSology - 3.9.0 release

2020-12-01 Thread Gaurav Mishra
Hello all,

The FOSSology project has released a new version, 3.9.0 to the project.

You can check it out at https://github.com/fossology/fossology/releases/3.9.0

Major additions with 3.9.0

A new agent "Spasht" introduced that pulls information like License and
Copyrights from ClearlyDefined server. The agent is currently in experimental
stage and thus the results for the agent are shown only in the UI.

It serves as the foundation for future extensions to the interaction between
FOSSology and ClearlyDefined - we would be happy for feedback! By the way, the
ClearlyDefined agent Spasht was a contribution from the GSoC student Vivek
Kumar.

More major changes include:

* Introduce support for Ubuntu Focal Fossa (20.04)

* Drop support for Debian 8 Jessie

* Obligations now refer to license conclusions

* Auto deactivation of copyrights for irrelevant files

* REST API now supports upload from URL

* Display time in browser's time zone wherever possible

* Ability to export Copyright CSV from UI

For more details please check 3.9.0, 3.9.0-rc2 and 3.9.0-rc1 release notes.

Re: [FOSSology] Not able to generate Copyright Report from Export List Tab

2020-09-02 Thread Gaurav Mishra
Hello Praba,

Glad the issue was resolved.

Coming to your questions:

  1. For some components, some agents are missing from "Select additional
analysis".
> To improve scan times, FOSSology keeps record of which version or which agent
> has already scanned which files. So, if you have already scanned a package by
> copyright/nomos agent, and the scan was finished successfully, you can not
> rescan the same upload from same scanner.
> If you install a new version of FOSSology, the scanner version changes and
> they become available again for rescans.

  1. Files with different copyrights appears in different row in exported file.

> This was done to help user identify the copyrights are from same file, at the
> same time keeping the CSV format valid and simple.

> We do not have any such plans right now. However, we are open for suggestions.

  1. How FOSSology identifies licenses?

> FOSSology currently uses 3 different agents working on 3 different methods to
> identify licenses:

 * Nomos: nomos identifies licenses using regex and heuristics. You can
read more about it at https://fossology.github.io/nomos.html
 * Monk: monk is a full text scanner, matches everything from your
license list. Read more at https://github.com/fossology/fossology/wiki/Monk
 * Ojo: ojo uses regex to identify SPDX license identifiers.
  1. Files supported by FOSSology

> While uploading an archive, FOSSology supports all major open formats. You
> can find the list of supported formats which are unpacked recursively at
> https://fossology.github.io/ununpack.html

> Once everything is unpackaged, every file is will be scanned by all agents.
> However, you can have an exclude list of files based on mimetypes. To set it
> up:

 *   Goto Admin > Customize
 * Provide the mimetypes in "Skip MimeTypes from scanning"
 * Then while uploading a new package, tick the "Ignore SCM files"
checkbox (point no. 4) in upload page. Or provide the "ignoreScm" flag in REST
API request.

Thanks Mishra for the replay.

  * I tried to rerun by selecting the project from "upload to analyze" option
-> Select additional analysis->"Copyright/Email/URL/Author Analysis" tab from
GUI.

Was able to get the report generated from export list tab and also could see
the entries in Unified report.

Additional Questions

  1. For some component/project, I couldn't see Copyright/Email/URL/Author
Analysis" option as highlighted below though they have multiple files with
copyright.

[cid:image001.png@01D68132.333DBBC0]

  1. From copyright report generated from export list tab, I see same file are
listed in different rows for different copyright. Are there any future plan to
group all the copyright in one row for specific file?

/fs/nfsd/nfs4state.c
/fs/nfsd/nfs4state.c
/fs/nfsd/nfs4state.c

  1. To identify a license, does Fossology look only for string/License name -
example "GPL" and determines file license apart from checking license terms or
URL(SPDX)?
  2. Does Fossology scan all file extension types? Is there an option to skip
specific file extension during scan - eg .pack(compressed jar files) etc.

[.cfg, .dat , .patch, .cpp, .a, .mk, .m4, rst. Dts ,dtsi, .s, Makefile,
makefile.in, makefile.am, .conf, Config.in, png, html, xml, js, .txt, .bin,
.key, crt, .hash, srl, .csr, .in, .pc, .csv..]

I will check for answer to few other questions in future mails.

Thanks!

External Email

Hello Praba,

I am not very sure what is happening here but the Copyright agent/User findings
tab also shows Copyrights which are found on files with the same checksum in
the server. But if the copyright agent has not ran on the upload before, the
copyrights might not appear in Unified report and export list as well.

Can you please try to schedule the copyright agent and see if it is working
once the agent finishes?

> Are there API commands to generate report from Export List.

Re: [FOSSology] Not able to generate Copyright Report from Export List Tab

2020-09-01 Thread Gaurav Mishra
Hello Praba,

I am not very sure what is happening here but the Copyright agent/User findings
tab also shows Copyrights which are found on files with the same checksum in
the server. But if the copyright agent has not ran on the upload before, the
copyrights might not appear in Unified report and export list as well.

Can you please try to schedule the copyright agent and see if it is working
once the agent finishes?

We do not have any endpoint for this right now, but there is an open issue for
the same here: https://github.com/fossology/fossology/issues/1716

Subject: [FOSSology] Not able to generate Copyright Report from Export List Tab

Dear Group,

I am working in generating license and copyright report from Export List so I
could have the list of files and the copyright and license for those files.
I can generate License report from Export List tab for all the components but
cannot generate Copyright report from Export List tab even though the license
entries are seen from Copyright agent/User findings tab.

Can you provide details? Your inputs will be helpful.

Are there API commands to generate report from Export List.
I saw the API command to download report but I think it is for Unified Report.

Unified Report generated for that component/project also doesn't list the
copyrights.

Re: [FOSSology] ISO Image scanning with greater size

2020-08-09 Thread Gaurav Mishra
Hello Prasaath,

The upload size limit is enforced by PHP. If you have powerful enough system,
you can increase your upload limit by tweaking the PHP configuration. Please
refer to the Configuring PHP section of the following explaining the parameters:
https://github.com/fossology/fossology/wiki/Configuration-and-Tuning#configuring-php

Alternatively, command line tool called `cp2foss` (usually located in
"/usr/local/bin/cp2foss" or "/usr/bin/cp2foss") can be used for one time
operations. You can check the help for the tool with -h flag to get the
available options.

Hello,

I am from Cisco Systems, Inc. and have been doing a Proof of Concept with your
product for running some scans to identify licenses for source code and images.
We have been able to run the scans for sources less than 700 MB but we are not
able to find an option to scan files which are greater than 700 MB. Is it
possible to provide a trial/demo version which can help to scan files greater
than 700 MB up to 1 TB.

FOSSology still has the Debian directory for building the packages but they are
not on Debian universe. We are trying to bring it back.
You can check the salsa repo for FOSSology here:

Yes, we have an ITP for FOSSology: https://bugs.debian.org/924659
There was also a RFS (https://bugs.debian.org/926915) but unfortunately it got
closed as we failed to find a sponsor.
It will be great help if you can help us for the sponsorship.

Hello Sundaramoorthi,

Looks like your server is behind a proxy. You can provide the proxy information
by editing the fossology.conf file. It can be found in locations:
1. /usr/local/etc/fossology.conf (in case of source install/docker)
2. /etc/fossology/fossology.conf (in case of installation from Debian packages)

Please update the proxy information and restart the agent.

Hello Sachin,

Maybe your caches are not cleaned after making the changes. You can do so by
deleting every file under folder "/var/cache/fossology/" (please note, not to
delete the directory itself).

Also, to reinstall FOSSology with changes, you can rebuild the Debian packages
and install them as required.
For more info on package building, please visit
https://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/maint-guide/build.en.html#debuild .

But as Michael responded, Ubuntu 14.04 is no longer supported and thus your
source can have missing dependencies.

Gaurav Mishra

Hello,

maybe it will work, ...

but just as a remark: Ubuntu is not supported anymore, neither by the Ubuntu

Also as suggestion: You could check your apache config

the files to make sure you are changing the right files.

I can not see any issue with my installation of FOSSology 3.5.0. There can be a

Can you please check the apache log once you try to update the license?
You can find the log at following location:

in the license administration view of my vanilla installation of v3.5.0 I try
to change license properties of LGPL 2.0+ for example by setting the risk
factor.
However, when I hit "update" it returns a blank page and changes are not saved.
This is strange, since I can successfully update any other license using the

Do you have any suggestions?

It occurs due to a missing PHP library for PostgreSQL. You will need to install

Re: [FOSSology] Anyone running FOSSology 3.x on a multi-system cluster?

2019-08-06 Thread Gaurav Mishra
Hello Dan,

I recently tried setting up a 4 node cluster of FOSSology 3.5.0 on Debian 9
machines and got it working with few tweaks.

I followed the guide written by Matt Taggart at
https://github.com/fossology/fossology/blob/master/debian/fossology-common.README.Debian#L19

You can follow the same steps to do the installation. Then there are few
changes required to make it working properly:

  1. You need to NFS your report and logs directories as well otherwise while
downloading the report, you'll get an empty page.
  2. You will need to increase the maximum number of sessions per user by
editing /etc/security/limits.conf and SSH config.
 * Since scheduler connects all the agent at startup (one connection per
agent) which will easily exhaust the default settings in the system.

I am planning to write a new wiki for the multi-system cluster.

Thanks and Regards,
Gaurav Mishra

Hi,

sorry to read this, I am not aware of anyone using the cluster setup. However,
I was also wondering if it would be running.

Not much has been changed since years however:

https://eur01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fgithub.com%2Ffossology%2Ffossology%2Fcommits%2Fmaster%2Fsrc%2Fscheduler%2Fagentdata=02%7C01%7Cmishra.gaurav%40siemens.com%7Cb56d62a1a26447da0d6908d71aa5a4e1%7C38ae3bcd95794fd4addab42e1495d55a%7C1%7C0%7C637007171050837063sdata=rBDRvaw4kHvtdplGNpxf0bAv%2BbOodgkARzsWbb8Arvw%3Dreserved=0

one thing were modifications to the max agents setting.

kind regards, Michael

Re: [FOSSology] REST API doesn't work for me

2019-07-11 Thread Gaurav Mishra
Hello Lei,

I just tried running the exact same commands on my system and it seems to be
working fine.
--
$ curl -k -s -S -u fossy:fossy -X GET http://localhost:8081/repo/api/v1/folders
{"code":400,"message":"Authorization header is malformed or
empty.","type":"ERROR"}
--

Probably you are trying to running an old image. Can you please pull the latest
image again?

If it is still not working, I would suggest you to check if the following
settings are correct in your container:

File /etc/apache2/conf-enabled/fossology.conf should contain

RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteRule "^api/(.*)" "/repo/api/index.php" [QSA,L]
RewriteRule .* - [env=HTTP_AUTHORIZATION:%{HTTP:Authorization}]

And please check if the mod_rewrite is enabled in apache. You can check using
"a2query -m rewrite".
If the rewrite module is disabled, please enable it using "a2enmod rewrite" and
restart apache.

Hope this will help.

With best regards,
Gaurav Mishra

[FOSSology] Need to remove Debian packaging meta info from master branch

2019-05-07 Thread Gaurav Mishra
Hello all,

During our effort to publish FOSSology as a Debian package, we got few
suggestions from the Debian community.
One of those suggestion is to remove the Debian packaging information (debian
folder) from the master branch and put it into another branch like
chore/debian/jessie.

This is done so to avoid conflicts as Debian maintainers will be editing this
packaging information in the FOSSology mirror (hosted at Debian
Sala<https://salsa.debian.org/fossology-team/fossology>). And any change in
upstream can result in conflicts.

As this change will alter the packaging steps required by many of FOSSology
users, we need your feedback.

I have opened an issue on GitHub for the same:
https://github.com/fossology/fossology/issues/1341

Kindly respond either on this thread or on the GitHub issue if you have any
concerns regarding the same.
With best regards,
Gaurav Mishra

Re: [FOSSology] Can't upload file from URL by fossology docker

2019-04-29 Thread Gaurav Mishra
Hello Lei,

Frankly I have never used FOSSology behind proxy for "Upload from URL". But
there is a proxy setting which you may use. For that, you need to edit the file
"/usr/local/etc/fossology/fossology.conf" inside the docker container and set
the respective "http_proxy" parameters.

Just restart the scheduler once after changing the file and wget_agent should
pick the proxy settings from there.

Please let us know if the solution worked for you.

Thanks and regards,
Gaurav Mishra

Subject: [FOSSology] Can't upload file from URL by fossology docker

Hi,

I pulled a docker of fossology server. There is no problem if I upload file
from localhost. But failed to upload from URL. The error log is as following:
---
2019-04-29 08:13:43 wget_agent [0] :: JOB[239].wget_agent[260.localhost]:
"FATAL wget_agent.c.383: upload 36 Download failed; Return code 4 from:
/usr/bin/wget -q --no-check-certificate --progress=dot -rc -np -e robots=off -P
'/srv/fossology/repository/5918713fc379/wget/wget.260.dir'
'https://eur01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.samba.org%2Fftp%2Ftevent%2Ftevent-0.10.0.tar.gzdata=02%7C01%7Cmishra.gaurav%40siemens.com%7C9fa77236c72b44edccbb08d6cd1294f5%7C38ae3bcd95794fd4addab42e1495d55a%7C1%7C1%7C636921877028109459sdata=%2FVX1twSbFuIIrqiiOnCn11HWYQ6dHwXpxJOgGf1vCJU%3Dreserved=0'
 -l 0 -R index.html* 2>&1"
2019-04-29 08:13:43 wget_agent [0] :: JOB[239].wget_agent[260.localhost]: agent
failed with error code 12
2019-04-29 08:13:44 wget_agent [0] :: JOB[239].wget_agent[260.localhost]: agent
failed, code: 12
---

Proxy is necessary in my environmental, so I wonder if there is any special
setting to enable for fossology docker that I don't know. The following is what
I have done to solve this issue.
   * Set not use proxy for localhost and 127.0.0.1.
   * Set proxy for docker service by
/etc/systemd/system/docker.service.d/http-proxy.conf.

Best regards
Lei Maohui

Re: [FOSSology] Not recognizing "SPDX-License-Identifier:" with SPDX expressions in files

2019-03-13 Thread Gaurav Mishra
Hello Tran,

As per the screenshot attached by you, I can see that file a.out.h contains
SPDX license identifier: **SDPX-License-Identifier: GPL-2.0 WITH
Linux-syscall-note** and nomos has successfully identified **GPL-2,0** and
**Linux-syscall-note** (also confirmed by the user).

I can not understand the point you are trying to make here. Can you please help
us understand the issue more by sharing the expected result and the file you
have tested the agents with?

Thanks and regards,
Gaurav Mishra
