Graphics quality - Mif2Go

2010-04-29 Thread Kelly McDaniel
I use FrameMaker 9 in TCS2 patched to p250 on Win32 XP Pro SP3 box.
I use PNG format exclusively, SnagIt 8 to take screenshots and edit, and set to
96 DPI on all graphics in a FrameMaker frame-shrink.

Recently, after p250 upgrade, I have experienced spontaneous "reformatting" of
random graphics. The only evident pattern is that the graphics appear to be
reformatted to a lower DPI setting than 96 DPI, although FM still displays
Object Properties as 96 DPI, and that the issue continues to plague me. I
review my work in FM, build a PostScript file, and distill the PS into a PDF.
The gnarly graphics are usually noticed in a 3rd party review of the PDF. When
I check my FM source, the graphic I had previously confirmed as "good" is now
gnarly. The fix is to locate the offending graphic, double-click it to open in
my default tool, SnagIt 8, then save it. That's all. When I return to FM, the
graphic is "as coded." Due to the state of Adobe Support, I have not reported
this issue. (I trust that R. J. and Jeremy are lurking.)

In conclusion, my belief is that Mif2Go grabs the graphic from FrameMaker and
uses it the way it finds it. You may very well have the same/related issue as I
have experienced...regards, Kelly.

Dear all,

we are generating EclipseHelp and OmniHelp for our documentation and chose
Mif2Go. Everything runs perfect except on one point: after conversion, graphics
are there, well layed out but of terrible quality. I attach an original picture
and its generated counterpart. We've played with GraphicExportDPI and
GraphicExportFormat but to no avail so far.

Do you have any strategy for obtaining graphics of a decent quality in our HTML
output? I guess it is something to be thought about from scratch, when
importing them in Frame. Is there any rule to respect (for instance, import in
xx DPI in Frame, then set GraphicExportDPI to xx DPI)?

Thank you very much in anticipation,
Mathieu.

P.S.: work environment is FM9 on Vista 64.

FrameMaker 9 Crashes at Start Up

2010-04-20 Thread Kelly McDaniel

I use a dependable cvs, but the amount of work done in one day that was
lost in the is pushed to the next release, which pushed
everything else. Previously, we had no compelling economic argument to
switch tools and to switch to structured content management. Our 20,000+

tag all our content. The switch now has quantifiable benefit...Kelly.

Hi all,

I am having some major FrameMaker problems. I've been running FrameMaker
9
on my system for a year now without any problem. Today, I came into work
and
tried to open FrameMaker. In the loading screen, it reaches the
localization
info and then it crashes. I restarted my computer and the same thing
happens. The only change to my system in the last couple days was an
acrobat
update provided by adobe. Is it possible that could be the cause? This
is
really distressing. I can literally get no work done until this issue is
fixed. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am considering the following:

1) Try a system restore.
2) If that doesn't work, reinstall FrameMaker, though that seems a bit
extreme.

Here are my system specs.

Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Service Pack 3
Intel Core Duo CPU

FM 9 Workspace (x-posted to Framers and Free Framers)

2010-02-04 Thread Kelly McDaniel
I am filled with regret at having purchased TCS w/FM9. I evaluated the
MadCap tools a few times and it got down to "the devil you know."

One of the serious advantages of having a user-configurable workspace is
that consistent use enhances your workflow. I knew I would face workflow
changes on the switch to FM9 and accounted for the time required. I was
unaware, though, that the workspace in FM9 would not hold a
configuration from launch to launch. Each time I launch FM9, I must
perform some workspace reconfiguration to put the workspace back like it
was the most recent time FM9 was open; the way I like it; the way it has
been incorporated into my workflow; the way it saves me time.

Using FM9, just using FM9!, has become a task that I must take into
account when I size my work...Kelly.

Not that I've found. I don't know if it's a bug, but I'd call it a
design
flaw. I wish I could reclaim that extra little bit of space. It makes
the
difference between being able to display at a two-page spread at full

no bookmarks

2010-01-29 Thread Kelly McDaniel
I have 9 books that I convert to postscript, then distill to PDF. This
is all handled by a series of batch files I wrote. The first bat spins
the postscript files, all using the same joboption, and the same
settings. The scripts run unattended about 0400 local.

Spontaneously and without warning, one of the books no longer contains
bookmarks. If I spin it by hand, the bookmarks show up. If I spin it by
script, no bookmarks.

Any ideas?...tnx, Kelly.

Crashing when saving as .xml

2010-01-19 Thread Kelly McDaniel
Check the log and see where the assertion failure occurred, then start from
there to diagnose.

The referenced memory error means that FM went to a memory location that was
indexed to contain a specific bit of data and found the wrong data or no data.

Intel? Core(TM)2 Duo CPU
T9400 @ 2.53 GHz
1.59 GHz, 3.48 GB RAM

Adobe? FrameMaker? 8.0p277 (structured)

On two similar workstations with similar setups, FrameMaker crashes when trying
to save two of seven files as XML files. Get same results with both files when
choosing either "File?| Save As..." or "File?| Save As XML...?." The other
five files are fine.

In "Save Document" window, choose "Save" button. FrameMaker displays message,

"FmTranslator client got assertion failure."

Choose "OK" button. FrameMaker crashes with both customary message plus, "The
instruction at . . . referenced memory at . . .. The memory could not be
'read'."

Have sent crash logs to FrameMaker failure reporting.

Help, please.

Thanks!

RE: Crashing when saving as .xml

2010-01-19 Thread Kelly McDaniel
Check the log and see where the assertion failure occurred, then start from
there to diagnose.

The referenced memory error means that FM went to a memory location that was
indexed to contain a specific bit of data and found the wrong data or no data.

Subject: FrameMaker 9 Issues

Hi,

I'm just getting a weird keyboard problem in Frame 9.

I run Frame under Parallels Desktop for Mac 5/XP SP3. I've updated to
TCS2 recently. I have been getting along fine, but yesterday my keyboard
mapping went weird: In Frame 9 when I try to type a single quote, I get
a question mark. There are other weird key mappings going on. I do not
get this problem in Photoshop (part of TCS2) in the same Parallels/XP
environment (running at the same time as Frame) - the keys work as
expected.

I originally thought this was a Parallels problem, but since things work
fine in Photoshop it can't be - it must be Frame-specific.

Any clues as to what's going on?

Martin

Hi Lynn,

Yes, I saw your message on the list yesterday. I have not seen this
behaviour (using FM 7.0). I *have* seen the dpi setting on a graphic
change to "unknown", which happens if you resize a graphic by dragging
the object handles. But I haven't seen the dpi button become disabled
because of it.

Creating PDFs across a Network

Such use of Acrobat (use of Distiller on one system to create PDF from
PostScript generated on another system sent directly over the network)
is in direct violation of the Acrobat End User License Agreement.

You need a server version of Distiller for this purpose.

PDF to FM9

MarCom revived some old software...from the last millennium...really.
The only docs I have are in PDF and I need to get the content into

the PDF as an RTF and import the RTF into FM, but I've done that before
and it's a PITA. Word RTF adds all manner of wonkiness to the doc.

I'm looking for suggestions on how to get the PDF content into
FrameMaker 9. (FYI, I already tried squeezing...no joy.)...regards,

Hi,

Can anyone help me out with the following: -

>>>1) What is the use of the All Properties option in Global Update

Manage paragraph and character formats
Update formats
You can change format properties and then use them to redefine, or
update, the stored formats and all the text in the document tagged with
them.
When you update a format, you can update all properties or just one
group of properties. For example, you can change the default font family
for all formats in a document without changing any other properties.

>>>2) What are Run-in Heads and How to use the Run--in Head punctuation
option in the paragraph designer?

Create run-in heads
Run-in heads are separate paragraphs on the same line as normal body
text. They have the same margins as normal body text, and typically have
a different font or weight for contrast. You can use a punctuation mark
to set them off from the text that follows.
The space between the run-in head and the preceding paragraph is
determined by the Space Below setting of the previous paragraph or the
Space Above setting of the run-in head, whichever is greater.
1
Click in the paragraph to change. If the paragraph is already a run-in
head, it is on the same line as the paragraph following it.
2
Select Format > Paragraphs > Designer and click the Pagination tab.
3
Select Run-In Head -- Default Punctuation. If necessary, enter the
punctuation, space, or combination of the two that you want to use.
Note: To override punctuation later, type the new punctuation in the
run-in head. FrameMaker ignores the punctuation specified in the Default
Punctuation box but retains any special characters that are part of the
default, including em and en spaces.
4
Click Apply To Selection.
5
Display the Default Font properties and change the run-in head's font so
that it stands out from the surrounding text, if you want.
6
Click Apply To Selection.

Hi,

Can anyone help me out with the following: -

>>>1) What is the use of the All Properties option in Global Update
options?

Manage paragraph and character formats
Update formats
You can change format properties and then use them to redefine, or
update, the stored formats and all the text in the document tagged with
them.
When you update a format, you can update all properties or just one
group of properties. For example, you can change the default font family
for all formats in a document without changing any other properties.

Before resorting to what Dov Isaacs calls "reinstallsheimer's disease",
I'd try a quick "wash as MIF" operation on the offending file. It seems
much more likely to me that something has become corrupt in the one
document file that Rick is having problems with rather than FrameMaker
itself having become corrupted.

Some follow-up questions:

1. I've been looking at the Chicago Manual, 15th edition. I'd expect a
great honking treatment of this subject, but I'm not seeing it. All the
cross-reference i9nformation is presented with reference to indexes and
bibliographies. The sections referring to cross-references "in text" are
discussions of the editor's obligation to check cross-references!

Is there an exhaustive section on x-ref format, in text, that I'm
missing?

2. I'm shocked, shocked, I tell you , to discover just what a
stick-in-the-mud I really am. I thought italics were sacrosanct for
referring to the titles of separately bound publications. (Although how
purely electronic publications can be "bound" is a topic for another
day.) But .. . you've all gotten over this hurdle and use italics to
identify cross-references? Like: "See Pots and Pans
on page 85," where "Pots and Pans" is a couple of
paragraphs with header in a much longer chapter of a much larger
*separately bound* publication, whether physical or digital?

Really?

I must sit down.

In that case, do you also put your italicized x-refs in a different
color, so as to distinguish them from the titles of separately bound
publications, which you might also mention in your text?

Thanks!

What is the optimum way to generate PDF?

2009-07-15 Thread Kelly McDaniel
I use .bat files and runfm.exe to produce postscript files from
FrameMaker, drop them into a watched folder, then a .bat file opens
Distiller, creating PDFs. Other .bat files copy the finished PDFs to the
product build pickup directory and to other interested parties...and
includes an archive copy to my network share. My scripts will scale.
They complete the "manual" process in about 10% of the time it takes me
to do it all by hand...Kelly.

You are missing the whole point of watched folders. If you have Acrobat
Pro (Acrobat Standard Edition does not support watched folders),
whenever Distiller is running it periodically (by default, every 30
seconds) checks each watched folders to see if there is a PostScript
file there. If it finds one, it *automatically* distills the PostScript
to PDF, using either the default Job Options or the set of Job Options
specifically associated with the folder. If you (or your script) start
Distiller before the script produces any PostScript output files and you
simply leave Distiller running in the background while the script puts
PostScript files in the watched folder as it produces them, the end
result will be a folder-full of PDFs with no further action on your
part. In other words, *automatically*.

Or you can let the script generate all the PostScript files into the
watched folder first, and then just launch Distiller and let it do it's
thing on the files it finds waiting for it. One double-click on an icon
(or one line in a batch file) to launch Distiller is not a heavy burden
on the operator and certainly doesn't qualify as having to distill
manually.

Some of you have suggested I run Windows on my beloved Mac. I've been

Are any of you running the Adobe Technical Communications Suite on a

Numbering RESOLVED

2009-07-03 Thread Kelly McDaniel
Many thanks to Rick Quattro for the solution.

My Chapter Title is actually a Head 1.

In the TOC, I do not number the Head 1 pages, so the TOC displayed the
first Head 2, which is on page 7.

Solution: I created a Head 2 on page 1 of the offending chapter and
respun the book. Resolved/Fixed...Kelly.

Numbering

2009-07-03 Thread Kelly McDaniel
Stuart,

Thanks, done that..set page numbering in the book window and in the
file. Using FM 10 years...deep-level nerd almost 40 years. I have tried
every trick I know. I saved the file as .mif and looked. DStartPage is
set to 1. ContPageNum is No.

When I copy and paste the contents of the file into a new, clean
template, the offending behavior is copied as well.

When I add a blank page to the beginning of the offending file, the TOC
page numbers for that file increment by 1. It's as if there were 6
"invisible" pages at the start of the offending file...leastwise, that's
the behavior...Kelly.

Kelly,

I don't know how you are "telling the TOC" to number pages -- it has no
role in that process.

In individual files, you set the numbering properties in the file. When

dealing with a book however, you must set the numbering properties for
the files from within the book window. Those settings will override
whatever is set in the files themselves. (Unless, in the book window,
you set the numbering to Read from File, which sounds like the culprit
here.)

1. In the book window, select the first chapter and set Format >
Document > Numbering to start at 1.

2. Select all the following chapters and set them to Continue Numbering

from Previous Page in Book.

3. Save the book file and then update the book, generating your TOC.

I have reset Page Numbering several times, including changing it on the
offending chapter to Roman, to Continue Numbering From Previous and
back. No joy.

I moved the offending chapter to another order in the book, below a
chapter with 28 pages (Thinking that the TOC might read page 1 as page
35... 7 + 28=35). No joy.

I imported Reference pages and Master pages from known good files. No
joy.

I did the same with the TOC. No joy.

As a workaround, I numbered the chapter to begin with -5 (negative five)
and it worked. The chapter begins with page 1, and the TOC reflects page
1.

I'm stumped. Any ideas?...thanks, Kelly.

Use of "please" in technical documentation and messages on screen

But in order to avoid the passive voice, the UI resorts to the first
person plural, which is also discouraged in most technical writing style
guides. At best, the pronoun is unclear because it does not have a clear
antecedent; at worst, it is punning words in the mouth of the company,
which can potentially have lkegal consequences (at least in a litigious
society like the US).

This is one of the occasions where the passive voice is actually
appropriate, because it is inconsequential to the user who or what is
performing the act. All that really matters to the user is that the
process is occurring.

Getting Rid of Font Change Warning

Does anyone know how I stop this warning from appearing when I'm
printing a FrameMaker manual?

"Font information for your system has changed. This change may affect
the format and output of your document(s)"

I usually just click OK and carry on, but now we're trying to print as
part of an automated workflow process, and there's no one there to click
OK. In fact, you don't even see FrameMaker open on the screen.

I tried opening Print Setup for the book and selecting my default
printer. I've also tried selecting Adobe PDF as the printer.

I'm using FrameMaker 7.2 on an XP machine, and I'm actually creating a
PDF using the FDK, then converting the book to HTML files using Mif2Go.
It's creating the PDF just fine, then failing during the HTML
conversion. Nothing is wrong with the Mif2Go configuration; the same
files work just fine interactively.

I'll bet you could fudge it with a 1-cell table with side-ruling only,
and frames above/below the cell pgf containing graphics of the rounded
rectangle top/bottom. (I haven't tried it, but that's how I'd go about
it...)

I like Sharon's advice (ask the user directly). But I haven't seen anyone
mention context-sensitive help or conditional text.

I hope the lengthy paragraphs in your query are not representative of your
manuals--that would certainly turn off users.

A couple of guidelines:

KISS--keep it simple, sir.

Tell them what you're going to tell them, tell them what you want to tell
them, then tell them what you told them

Engineers like flow charts and logic diagrams, so fire up your Visio and try
to put the points across that way.

And everyone likes pictures, so see where you can use those. (Many people
are visually oriented and don't like to read.)

I hope I haven't insulted your intelligence. I'm just picking trees out of

I just checked in the FM7 book Sarah O'Keefe wrote, and it
appears Webworks *Standard*, the one Nancy was "required"
to use, does not even support HTML Help at all. You'd have
to use the regular HTML output, then create the index, toc,
project file, alias and map files by hand, or at best do it
with HTML Help Workshop, which is almost as bad.

If the client is merely trying to save money by using a
"free" tool, we'll *give* her a copy of Mif2Go. Nobody
should have to go through that process to keep a job...

Any up to date comparisons of Word and Frame

2009-04-09 Thread Kelly McDaniel
As the writer states in this post:

"It all comes down to this:

FrameMaker is a very mature and solid product
that can handle structural complexity very well."

http://www.technicalcommunicationcenter.com/2009/02/08/which-text-editor
-to-use-for-technical-writing-adobe-framemaker-or-microsoft-word/

An anecdote:

I have over 30 years in the tech trade and consider myself to be adept.
In my current position, I was assigned a new "book" authored in Word and
saved as an RTF to convert to FrameMaker. That was in September 2007. I
still occasionally discover some obscure, Microsoft-specific wonkiness
deeply embedded in my converted files.

You mention "(... half my company's docs are written using Word)." IMHO,
Word may be the correct authoring tool for many short documents. Word is
not, however, an appropriate authoring tool for sets of documentation
that may span many chapters, require periodic revisions, and be targeted
for production-quality end use...regards, Kelly.

Subject: Any up to date comparisons of Word and Frame

Hi,

I am a fanatical Frame user but it looks as though I am going to have to
convert my docs to Word (long story, but half my company's docs are
written using Word). I know this question comes up time after time, but
most responses refer to old reviews and comparisons (though probably the
only ones that exist on the web).

I work well and efficiently in Frame, and know exactly what it can and
can't do. I enjoy using it. I am scared that working in Word will be
less efficient, more frustrating, and that it will crash and screw up my
documents.

Can anyone provide or point me to an up to date comparison of Frame 8 or
9 vs Word 2007 (or later?). I know this is hard because very few folks
use both tools extensively and know what each is capable of. Frame fans
say that Word sucks, and Word fans say it doesn't. Tit for tat.

Is Word's multifile functionality still broken? Does it produce
hyperlinked index entries by default. Does the latest Word have any
serious problems or deficiencies, and which Frame functionality will I
miss that makes working in Word harder or more time-comsuming.

If I can present an argument that justifies sticking with Frame because
of cost-savings, I may yet be able to stave off its demise.

Many thanks!

How about professional writing programs? That might be useful

RE: Technical Writing Certificate

2009-04-08 Thread Kelly McDaniel
None of the technical writing certificates that I know about are worth
the investment. To evaluate a certificate, investigate how widely it is
used by those in the field, and by those hiring in the field.

IMHO, the better approach is a technical writing degree, even an
associate's degree has more value than a testing certificate. The
problem with a tech writing degree is finding an accredited educational
institution with a well-developed curriculum. I have been associated
with the tech trade over 30 years and I cannot think of any...Kelly.

Thumbs down: FrameMaker 9 Welcome Screen

Clicking on the double arrow above the book file tab shrinks the file to
a
button that's pretty small.

Interesting. No version of FrameMaker ever remembered the size of the
book
file window for me. I always had to resize it larger. In FM9, the
default
window is tall enough that I can see the whole tree in the book file
without
resizing. I like it-- though I find the window to be wider than
necessary.
It extends about an inch to the right of the rightmost icon in the
header
bar.

FM9 UI bug: Para Catalog displays incorrect Tags

Hi

I just found another bug in the FM9 UI. This is what I do:

1. Choose Format > Paragraphs > Catalog to display the Catalog.

I see two tabs in the Catalog: Para Catalog and Structure View.

2. Click the Structure View tag and move the Para Catalog around on my
screen.

3. Click the Para Catalog tab again.

Result: I just see a limited set of tags (Body, CellBody, CellHeading,
Footnote, Heading, TableFootnote, TableTitle and Title) which are not
even
used in my document. This happens sometimes, not always. When I click in
my
document, I see the full list of tags again.

Can anyone else reproduce and confirm this?

Cheers

I've just recently loaded TCS 2 and gotten a good look at FM9. I really
like the new interface, even though it is different. I especially like
the ability to customize it and save workspace versions. However, I've
found the Welcome Screen to be *really* annoying. Usually, welcome
screens disappear once an app is running, but this thing remains. I
realize it offers some shortcuts (and a lot of Adobe marketing links),
but I can get those from my menus, just like any other Adobe
application. I wonder why Adobe did this with Framemaker, when none of
their other applications behave this way. Does anyone else dislike the
welcome screen?

1. FrameMaker searches and finds items, but rather than displaying the
page that contains the item, it displays the first page of the chapter
that contains the item. The found item may be many pages away, and is
not always highlighted. I sometimes see the highlighted item flash on
screen for a moment before the page jumps back to the first page of the
chapter.

2. Building blocks now missing after 9.0.1 update.

3. Have had bullets change size and all conform to one size instead of
the 2 different assigned tags. Have to save Book after making changes to
part of the book.

4. Crash on printing from other print driver than the PDF.

5. Now cannot undo if graphic inserted and I don't want it, I have to
close without saving and then reopen to start all over.

Subject: Ref: FM 9 bugs - I have noticed.

Replace a para tag throughout book?

Good point Fred.

But you could take a dummy file which only has the new par tag (and no
other par tags) and import the par tags from that file to all the files
in the book. Then do the search and replace.

I'm experiencing very slow cursor movement in FrameMaker 9. Is anyone
else
seeing this?

Choose the Manage Graphics workspace. Use the arrow keys to move around
the
text. The speed seems normal enough.

Now choose any of the other workspaces (Authoring, Manage Content,
Review)
and use the arrow keys to move around. For me, it creeps VERY SLOWLY.

A similar issue occured in FM8 if the Paragraph Designer was open, but
closing all palettes/pods does not increase the speed in FM9.

Follow up on Handling Large Books in FrameMaker

2009-02-04 Thread Kelly McDaniel
When you work locally, the primary processing choke points are CPU clock
speed, bus speed, and hard drive read/write transfer rate. Swap file
available space and hard drive available space also come into play, but
we're comparing local to network access.

When you work over a LAN, the transfer rates are much, much less than
clock, bus, and drive head. TCP/IP retransmits dropped and corrupted
packets, network traffic has an impact, plus, your sysadmin may throttle
applications that are not mission-critical at their discretion...Kelly.

Hi all,

As suggested by several of you, I tried opening all the files at once.
This
caused FrameMaker to have a seizure, freeze, and crashed. Then, I tried
copying the frame files and book to my desktop and it worked fine. I
had
always known that working locally with framemaker means everything
processes
faster, but I didn't realize it made that much difference. I work on
300 to
400 page books on this network, and FrameMaker handles those books fine.
I
suppose its possible that 600 page books are the limit for the
particular
network that I am on.

Unfortunately, due to work requirements, its no possible to work on
local
copies and then copy them up at the end of the day. I did this at
another
place I worked at because that company's network was so slow that you
couldn't do anything with FrameMaker on the network, and it worked
great.

FM9 show stoppers

2009-01-26 Thread Kelly McDaniel
"A third great annoyance:
The new buttons are gray in normal state and coloured if hovered over."

I thought that maybe I was too picky, but this bothers me, too.

-Original Message-

Subject: FM9 show stoppers

Trying to use FM9 reveals beside the goodies (modern interface,
enhanced book handling, list of referenced files, variables, cross
references, ...) also some misbehaviour becomes obvious:

The first one has already been mentioned here:
Various lists (? format by F9, variable names by CTRL+0, ...) do no
more behave as usual:

Having the formats ln-list-narrow and lc-list-check and want to get ln,
i must type l, then arrow-down. Typing ln applies the format n1-
numbered-1st.
Up to FM-8 we entered l, n, enter. The enter must now be avoided like
hell, if the item is the only one in the list starting with that
character.

This was not a special feature of FM-8 and beyond, but is common
behaviour in Windows. In an Open dialog, entering abc opens the list of
files: first all beginning with a, then beginning with ab, then with
abc - which is _very_ vonvenient (well, this might be to an option in
the UI, but on my XP it works this way).

The second one is a tough experience:
Backspace has become a nightmare on my 3MHz machine with 4GB of RAM. I
can not correct input in the usual manner, because i have typed to many
times until the program reacts! Do I need to switch off UNDO (which is
not possible)? I have already switched off "show warnings while
cleaning history", "Checkout HTTP...", "Upload HTTP..." in preferences.

Also the arrow keys - used for example, to extend a selection - a-r-e-v-
e-r-y-s-l-o-w! This is NOT an issue of my machine - no other program
has this behaviour.

A third great annoyance:
The new buttons are gray in normal state and coloured if hovered over.
Since we are now working with larger screens (i have a 24" + a 22" side
by side) easy recognition of items on this real estate is key for
speedy work.

A reason for my displeasure:
FrameMaker users are keyboard-people, while CS (creative) users in the
graphic area are mouse oriented. For graphic work this is also the case
with me. But authoring text is typing and applying formats by short
cuts.

With the large screens FM9 now supports it is slowing down my work
significantly to take the mouse for such operations, even with a tablet
which gives more instant access to remote locations on a screen.

Althoug I like most of the new things - the feeling under my fingertips
is bad.

There are a herd of them, and I played with a lot of them, but SnagIt
worked
most smoothly for me; has a slew of options; and has a toolbar that
integrates cleanly with Frame, so you can do the screen shot and import
in
one action from with in FM.

RE: FM9 show stoppers

2009-01-26 Thread Kelly McDaniel
"A third great annoyance:

I thought that maybe I was too picky, but this bothers me, too.

Subject: FM9 show stoppers

Trying to use FM9 reveals beside the goodies (modern interface,
enhanced book handling, list of referenced files, variables, cross
references, ...) also some misbehaviour becomes obvious:

The first one has already been mentioned here:
Various lists (¶ format by F9, variable names by CTRL+0, ...) do no
more behave as usual:

Althoug I like most of the new things - the feeling under my fingertips
is bad.
