skype-2.0.0.72,1 getting the chat history into file

2010-10-18 Thread Matthias Apitz

Hello,

I'd like to have the chat history in a file as text or HTML. I don't see
any way to 'print' the history (this would be already enough, to grab it
out of the PostScript file).

I have had a look into the files and it seems that all history is there
below ~/.Skype/{account}/chatsync/ organized in one directory level more
and as files *.dat. One can even see with 'strings' the UTF-8 data...

So maybe, some tool could decifer the data from there...

Thanks

It might be related to the X server's DPI value. Is it
configured correctly? When it is wrong, the fonts can
be too big or too small. Some applications respect the
DPI value, and some don't, so the problem is not obvious
 in all applications.

You can view the current value with xdpyinfo:

 $ xdpyinfo | grep dots
 resolution: 100x100 dots per inch

It is a xorg.conf in a VMWare virtual machine and it shows:

$ xdpyinfo | grep dots
  resolution:230x173 dots per inch

Sould it be adjusted to 100x100? Thanks for your hint

skype-2.1.0.81,1 problem in child proc

2012-03-01 Thread Matthias Apitz

Hello,

I'm using skype-2.1.0.81,1 in 10-CURRENT r226986, which works fine for
chat and video calls;

I encounter the following small problem: when a chat contains a URL one
can open that URL with a browser; it seems that skype is launching a
shell script /usr/local/bin/xdg-open which in turn tries to figure out
if the desktop is Gnome or KDE and which browser to use; it simple does
not start any browser for me; while digging into this (inserting
printf's to a log file) I see, that the script wants to launch

kfmclient exec http://www.hallo-verlag.de/...

with the correct URL from the chat dialog in skype but this gives an
error to stderr:

Cannot open /usr/lib/libv4l/v4l2convert.so

the shared lib exists in /compat/linux/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l2convert.so
and in /usr/local/lib/libv4l/v4l2convert.so

$ ls -l /usr/local/lib/libv4l/v4l2convert.so
/compat/linux/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l2convert.so
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 4788 14 nov 12:52
/compat/linux/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l2convert.so
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 5341 14 nov 07:49
/usr/local/lib/libv4l/v4l2convert.so

What is the matter with this and was has 'kfmclient' todo with
v4l2convert.so shared objects?

Thanks

I've set now a hardcoded 'unset LD_PRELOAD' in /usr/local/bin/xdg-open

Yes. I found this out too that in the port emulators/wine:

Skype: local video view with Virtual in xorg.conf

2012-11-19 Thread Matthias Apitz

Hi,

I'm using Skype 2.1.0.81 in 10-CURRENT. Recently I have added Virtual
... to the Display SubSection in my /etc/X11/xorg.conf:

Section Screen
Identifier Screen0
Device Card0
MonitorMonitor0
SubSection Display
Viewport 0 0
Virtual 2704 2704
Depth 1
EndSubSection
...

to get Xinerama view while having connected an external VGA display.
This works fine, but the local view in Skype does not show up, the
picture of the remote is fine and my picture at the other side as well,
only the local (test) view does not work. When I start Sk in a xterm, it
says on probing the local view:

$ skype
libv4l2: error setting pixformat: Invalid argument
libv4l2: error setting pixformat: Invalid argument

Any ideas?

Thanks

update of port net-im/skype to Skype for Linux v4.2

2013-05-23 Thread Matthias Apitz

Hallo,

I have certain problems while calling with our Skype in net-im/skype
(which is version 2.1.0.81 for Linux) to other Skype users on Windows:
the call gets established but video in the call is droped without any
notice or reason; it works with video for other users; as always, the
messages in Don Google in the forums (...) always say: update to the
latest version and it should work;

I know that we (FreeBSD) can't do nearly nothing to nail down the
problem or debug it; but I wanted to ask if there are plans to update to
the latest official version of Skype for Linux which seems to be 4.2?

Or is there anything which prevents this in our linuxulator in general?
Is someone working on an update?

Thanks

linux_base-c6 Skype 4.2

M$ has Linux Skype 4.2 for some Linux distributions, for example for F16;
would it be possible to run one of these distributions on top of

I have enough systems at home running some 10-CURRENT and could use one

Is it any better in your opinion?
I saw 4.1.0.20 in Linux and functionally it is all the same, except
Away status is gone. I don't like it because it only takes away
 flexibility without adding value.

I'm facing the problem that video stops working in Sk calls between
skype-2.1.0.81_1,1 (from the actual ports) and Windows Skype versions of
6.x; the call establishes fine, audio is fine but the video is
dropped/rejected; this is not a local problem because video works fine
between skype-2.1.0.81_1,1 and skype-2.1.0.81_1,1; it looks more that
there are changes in the protocol or codecs or whatever; for this a
working 4.x (congratulations!!!) could be a step to get it working
again;

Maybe it is a good idea to create a new net-im/skype4 instead of pushing
 everybody to 4.X ?

net-im/skype4 would be really nice

I was aware of this; the question was rather which of the 4-5 RPM's fits

Hi Juergen,

I did this already, copied the h file and 'make buildkernel' is
running since some hour :-)

And btw it seems you need 9-stable or head too for the Linux pipe2
 syscall. (r234352 for head or r248532 for stable/9, I haven't tried
if the latter can be applied to 9.1 as is too.)

I don't understand this, I'm on SVN head with my kernel, exactly on
r250588 (as of May 13, I think):

To rebuild just linux.ko after copying the header (instead of doing
 a full buildkernel/installkernel) do:

   cd /sys/modules/linux
make x86 (not needed on latest head, thanx eadler fox fixing)
   make DEBUG_FLAGS=-g
   make install DEBUG_FLAGS=-g

and then reload linux.ko (or reboot.)

Ok, thanks for this; so I will just reload linux.ko

Unfortunately I never really did any useful work on this issue:

Hm this output does not include the information that we were looking for. It
 was
expected to see the yasm output of the asm file because we want to rule out
that it is an yasm bug.

If you look further into the definition of AssertCompileSize you will
 see it does
a check on the size of the struct that fails because it thinks the size is 1
 but
it should be 136 as defined in the second parameter.

It took me some time to figure out, how the yasm engine should work; I
took away the /usr/local/bin/kmk_redirect part (because it only catches
the output of yasm and redirekts it to a file); and, more important, one
must remove the '-o file' option from the yasm call to get the
preprocessor output on stdout; it is here (around 4500 lines):
http://www.unixarea.de/yasm.out

What makes me worry are the amount of empty lines at the beginning while
parsing the file
emulators/virtualbox-ose/work/VirtualBox-4.3.0/include/iprt/asmdefs.mac
but I'm not an x386 Assembler expert, only for IBM /370 main frames :-)

HIH

This issue has been mentioned several times in the FreeBSD community,
and from what we can tell it's a yasm regression... The VirtualBox code
didn't change much (besides recently fixing a yasm version detection
which wasn't trivial as they spotted an opcode typo, and as usual
VirtualBox uses all the exotic stuff so needs to adapt).

Hello Klaus,

I had a look into the SVN repo of the yasm port, here:
http://svnweb.freebsd.org/ports/head/devel/yasm/Makefile?view=log
the last version change dates from Feb 2012; so this does not look as a
yasm regresion for me.

And if you look into the output produced by the yasm' preproc,
http://www.unixarea.de/yasm.out
why yasm does know X86FXSTATE_size at line 733 in yasm.out:

X86FXSTATE_size EQU $ - X86FXSTATE

but not X86TSS16_size in line 765:

X86TSS16_size EQU $ - X86TSS16

i.e. from where it knows X86FXSTATE_size, but not X86TSS16_size?

The port maintainer frequently hangs out on IRC (freenode/#vbox-dev),
but I don't think there is any good solution known yet.

Seems so.

Hello,

Based on the call for testers file virtualbox-cft-4.3.0-20131020.tar.gz
I compiled ports/emulators/virtualbox-ose-additions;

the background of using this version from end of October is, that
it is the last one which fits in my ports tree and the 10-CURRENT
(r255948, ports: r328930, October 1st 2013) I have to run
in this VM which runs fine in vbox of Ubuntu 14.04;

after this 4.3.0 there was a fundamental change in the ports tree and it
would mean that I have to compile all my ports from scratch;

I had a few errors and removed

-fformat-extensions
-fno-format-extensions
-mno-align-long-strings

from work/VirtualBox-4.3.0/Config.kmk and after this it
compiled and installed fine with:

# make install USE_GCC=any

but the system can not load the module:

# /usr/local/etc/rc.d/vboxguest start
/usr/local/etc/rc.d/vboxguest: WARNING: Can't load vboxguest module.
# ls -ltr /boot/modules/vb*

# kldload /boot/modules/vboxguest.ko

Why is this?

Thanks

Have a look at the patches in virtualbox-ose for that function. There
should be a patch to add it to the kmod. You are just replicating
issues that were fixed already.

Thanks in any case for reading this and answering. I know that 4.3.0 is
outdated. But even if outdated, I do not fully understand this: it means
that the virtualbox-ose-application was never loaded into the kernel, or
am I wrong?

I will see how to fix this is the Makefile of its kmod.

Thx again

virtualbox-ose-additions-4.2.18: video and mouse works, but no button events

2014-08-04 Thread Matthias Apitz

Hello,

I have a FreeBSD 10-CURRENT as guest in a virtual box running on Ubuntu
14.04.1.

The port virtualbox-ose-additions (4.2.18) installed fine and with it
the following is working fine:

- Xorg uses 'vboxvideo' driver and resizing or fullscreen works fine
- Xorg uses 'vboxmouse' with the following section in xorg.conf:

  Section InputDevice
Identifier Mouse0
Driver vboxmouse
  EndSection

the mouse moves fine and can cross the border of the VM to Ubuntu-land
but no button click is seen; I've checked this with xev: the moves of
the mouse pointer are fine, but no click is seen by the xev

  having in xorg.conf:

  Section InputDevice
Identifier Mouse0
Driver mouse
Option Protocol auto
Option Device /dev/sysmouse
Option ZAxisMapping 4 5 6 7
  EndSection

the mouse in the VM works fine, but the mouse pointer can not leave
the VM and no cutpaste is possible between the VM and Ubuntu.

Any ideas? Thanks

No, this kind of issue exists because there is some kind of include
list for functions used by the kernel modules. The list is per OS and
updated manually and vbox developers tend to miss entries for FreeBSD.
Adding the filename to the list is simple and we usually create a
simple patch for it which we sure did in the following cft and it might
still be in the virtualbox-ose port if it wasn't yet included upstream.

The fix (changing some C source) was included in some patches you have sent:

  Hi guys,

I am sending most of our patches that we collected during the last
  months and especially
during the 4.3 development period. I am sorry that we did not manage
  to send them right
on time before 4.3.0 but I hope we can do better in the future.
  ...

After all this is wasting your time and now even mine so please try to
use packages or a newer portstree. This is a dead end.

Thanks for your time. I will try if 4.3.0 solves the problem I see with
4.2.18 (mouse buttons are not working in guest) and if not I will work
for the moment without mouse-integration. And I will start a new VM with
the actual /usr/src and portstree.

Thanks again for your helping hand.

After a lot of tests I have some progress on this issue:

If HAL is started, the mouse clicks are working in the guest system. Our
Wiki (https://wiki.freebsd.org/VirtualBox/) gives this as an option for
HAL users (which I was not until now) and gives an example for some file
to be placed into /usr/local/etc/hal/fdi/policy/90-vboxguest.fdi;
I did this and re-checked that it even works without this file,
launching HAL is already enough.

What still is not working is cutpaste between the VM and the host.
When Xorg+KDE4 comes up there are some VBoxClient-processes visible, one is

/usr/local/bin/VBoxClient --clipboard

Does this need some configuration? There is no man page for it :-(

Thanks

issues with emulators/open-vm-tools (head)

2016-01-05 Thread Matthias Apitz

Hello,

I run a FreeBSD CURRENT (r292778) amd64 in a VMware and have all ports
compiled from head too; the driver 'vmware' and 'vmouse' from the
xf86-driver ports are doing fine;

re/ the open-vm-tools I have two issues/questions:

1)
the /usr/local/bin/vmtoolsd is running with a config file which is not
provided by the port, not even as an example file; what should it
contain?

root@r292778:~ # ps ax | fgrep vm
   15 - DL0:00,00 [vmdaemon]
  599 - R 0:04,10 /usr/local/bin/vmtoolsd -c
/usr/local/share/vmware-tools/tools.conf -p
10272 0 S+0:00,00 fgrep vm
 9154 1 S 0:00,67 /usr/local/bin/vmtoolsd -n vmusr

2)
on KDE4 start it gives two messages related vmware:

root@r292778:~ # fgrep vm ~guru/startkde.log
11:35:00: vmware-user: could not open /var/run/vmblock
11:35:00: klauncher(9204)/kio (KLauncher) KLauncher::processRequestReturn:
"/usr/local/bin/vmware-user-suid-wrapper" (pid 9741) up and running.

what is causing the error 'could not open ...' ?

Thanks

cut & paste between FreeBSD guest and VMware host not reliable

2016-10-19 Thread Matthias Apitz

Hello,

I run many (recent) FreeBSD systems as guest in VMware (pls don't
blame me). And I have always the problem that the cut between the
guest and the Win7 host is not reliable, it works but not always.

The system is:

$ uname -a
FreeBSD r292778 11.0-CURRENT FreeBSD 11.0-CURRENT #0 r292778: Tue Dec 29
14:38:12 UTC 2015
guru@:/usr/local/r292778/obj/usr/local/r292778/src/sys/GENERIC amd64
[guru@r292778 ~/workspace/WMS-tools/SunRisePatronAndVendorExport]$ pkg

the installed open-vm-tools:

open-vm-tools-1280544_12,1
Version: 1280544_12,1
Installed on : Tue Jan 5 07:14:41 2016 CET
Architecture : freebsd:11:x86:64
...

I'm running WMware Workstation 7.1.6 build-744570 on a Win7 host. The
guest systems are recent FreeBSD systems of different versions
with KDE 4.x and xorg as X11 server.

I can select reliable in the guest some string in any window and paste
this into any window in the guest.

I can do the paste to into text windows in the Win7 host applications,
for example OutLook or Winword, but sometimes the paste does not work,
the buffer in the mouse in Windows seems to be empty.
In such a case I can move back to the guest and paste the content there,
which works fine and proofs that the string was selected and is still
"in the mouse" klippboard.

When I now re-cut the just pasted string from the window in the guest, the
paste in the host applications works as well.

Any ideas about this?
Thanks

matthias

host Win7-64bit / guest FreeBSD 12-CURRENT: host-only network freezes on Win suspend

2017-04-03 Thread Matthias Apitz

Hello,

I've the following problem in the above environment:

When I leave work, I just hibernate the Win7 from the Start-menu
(Start-->Shutdown-->Hibernate) and wake it up next day. The guest
is not shutdown down and continues fine. Only the host-only interface
(192.168.56-1 -- 192.168.56.101) is completely stuck. For example a
ping from the guest to 192.168.56.1 says "Host is down". A ping to the
real NIC of the host works fine and normal IP through the host to Internet
too (just typing these chars through it).

I raised this in the Oracle issue tracking as:

https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/16628

But don't know if this could even be an issue within FreeBSD.

VBox in Win7 has mouse focus, but not keyboard focus

2018-02-19 Thread Matthias Apitz

Hello,

At work I have to run FreeBSD in a VBox (version 5.1.18 on Win7). The
guest OS is FreeBSD CURRENT r314251 amd64 with Xorg and KDE. All is fine,
but one annoying problem:

Whe I move the mouse to the VM window (no click, just move it over the window
of the VM) the Xorg server and KDE window manager "see" the mouse, for
example the current xterm gets another background grey value (because I
have configured it that way in KDE). This let you think, hey fine I'm
now in the xterm window, for exampl. But, the keyboard focus stays with
the last used window in Win7. I already lost mails there, because a
Ctrl-D was delivered to Outlook (don't blame me), instead to the xterm :-(

Anything I could do?

VB (virtualbox-ose-5.2.22_2): Debian boots fine but does not show X11 display

2019-09-04 Thread Matthias Apitz

Hello,

I have a VB image 'qemu-x86_64.vdi' which contains a bootable amd64
(Debian) Linux system running, an upcoming Linux smartphone (Librem5),
more information on this here:
https://developer.puri.sm/Librem5/Development_Environment/Boards/qemu.html

The host is a 12-CURRENT amd64 and I compiled VB as virtualbox-ose-5.2.22_2
from ports (as all my other ~1400 packages).

The guest boots fine and (perhaps) starts automatically some X11
application (the "phosh", the phone shell). It only shows a blinking
cursor, nothing else. I can switch with Alt-F1 to a login shell and
login there. It's difficult to do that because the screen jumps always
after 1-2 secs back to the tty7 (perhaps the phosh is up there). Same is
true for Alt-F2...F6. That's why I think on tty7 is someting running.

Why I do not have any screen picture there.

What can I do to login via network? I can't configure anything in the
Debian with this jumping back after 1-2 secs. The VB manager does not
offer host-only network at all, only bridged or NAT.

The host panics when the VM boots from the ISO image of the gast, tested
with an ISO for Ubuntu 20.04LTS and Windows10. With Ubuntu there is
already its plash screen and Ubuntu is checking the ISO.

The panic screen is here http://www.unixarea.de/fbsd-panic-20210110.jpg

What should I do? File an PR for FreeBSD?

KDE plasma clipboard && paste into host system

2021-02-05 Thread Matthias Apitz

Hello,

I run 13.0-CURRENT r368166 (amd64) in VBox 5.2.30 on a Windows 10 host
(because I have to, please don't blame me). Since the update to
13.0-CURRENT and Plasma I have the following problem:

I can 'cut' with the mouse text in any window in KDE and 'paste' the
content everywhere in KDE. It is also visible in Clipboard right after
selecting the text with the mouse. All fine.

But, to paste it into Windows, i.e. the host, with Ctrl-V I have first
to mark (click) it in the KDE Clipboard.

This is only with this new KDE. An older KDE-4 VM does not show this
issue.

Any ideas

I found the reason with reading carefully the help of the Klipper
application; one must enable the following:

Synchronize contents of the clipboard and the selection

Sets the clipboard mode. When an area of the screen is
selected with mouse or keyboard, this is called the “selection”.
If this option is selected, the selection and the clipboard is
kept the same, so that anything in the selection is immediately
available for pasting elsewhere using any method, including the
traditional middle mouse button. Otherwise, the selection is
recorded in the clipboard history, but the selection can only
be pasted using the middle mouse button. Also see the Ignore
selection option. See the section called “Clipboard/Selection
  Behavior”.

With this it works like it should. And this option was enabled in the
KDE4 Klipper (maybe as default, because I do not remember having ever
touch this).
