I'm trying to upgrade my ports and I can't get portupgrade to do
anything. I type 'sudo portupgrade apache' (or any package) and all I
get back is a command prompt. No error or any other message.
portversion seems to work correctly, showing my out of date ports, etc.

to run portupgrade in a screen session, I never had a
problem just running portupgrade again. If I recall correctly the index
needed to be rebuilt at times, but portupgrade gave a helpful message
telling me that.

don't think the port installs convert-tool; I got it by doing 'make' in
the dovecot port directory and manually copied it from there.

Go to the /usr/ports/databases/db42 directory and build this port.

hello FreeBSD,
I have tried several versions of FreeBSD and have not been able to get any
of them to run on my system.
Linux and M$ runs fines - I hate M$
But every BSD either hangs on splash screen or - it enters a continuous
splash screen- reboot loop.
I have tried every option I can find to no
the progress on the booting process on screen,
however FreeBSD 6 hides all that and remains at the options screen until
the login prompt. Why? That was useful stuff. (But that is a little off
topic) The basic question is: How do I go about finding the cause of my
problem?

I sounds like the connection is never even getting to svnserve. Did
something change from 1.1.3? Port? Nothing has changed on the
machine. It was working. I upgraded (using ports) and now it doesn't

If you can get it working locally it is easy to make it work with CUPS
on the network. CUPS is the easiest way to print on the network.
(though there are good reasons to use others)
Start simple: get something (either ghostscript or plain text) printing
locally. Until the printer works on

Yes, Bob you are right.
The real problem was running KDE while logged in as root, not installing
ports. I deleted all the files that KDE placed in / and now everything is
fine.

I'm using Free BSD 4.9 on a P III Compq.
I have a [EMAIL PROTECTED] Key USB 64MB Flash drive.
The flash drive is plugged in a USB port when I boot and dmesg shows
some reasonably encouraging
indications that it recognizes the device. It seems to be associating it
with umass0.
Part of the
I mounted an iso on the filesystem using mdconfig. I then mounted an
.img file (msdos) from within that mount on its own mount .
I cd'd to the mounted directory, ran ls twice and the system crashed.
No forensics in /var/log/messages either.
any ideas? interesting at best.

I guess a cheap way out of this is to nohup the bounce utility in ports.
I only mention it, because it is one of my 5 top binaries :)

cd9660: /dev/vn0: No such file or directory
and there is no vn0 in dev, what am I missing in the Kernel, im running
5.0-Release.
