 Hi Lisa,
If you mean the xxx type of adult games some novelty shops carry
pornographic dvd games in which you use your dvd remote to get the girls
and guys to do this or that.
Beyond that I don't really know of any accessible adult games.

[Audyssey] Audio Anacreon

2007-07-05 Thread Zachary Kline
Hello,
The recent threads about Sound RTS got me to thinking. A turn-based
strategy game, ala Civilization or indeed Anacreon, is something which might be
more easily converted to audio format. I personally have loved strategy games
of all kinds, and always will, but there are very few of them for the blind. I
would love to see this change.
Anything turn-based can probably be converted with reasonable simplicity,
depending on some game-specific factors.
I was just wondering what your opinion on this is?
Thanks,
Zack.

 Hi guys/gals:

First of all happy fourth of July for fellow American's.

Now I have downloaded, installed and read the manual. I guess I am one of
the biggest moron's on this earth because I just don't get it.

I am stuck on chapter 1. I get the gold out of a1 and then move to c1.
 Every
time I try to move anywhere else I get killed by the fighters.

I have one footman but when I move him also I get killed. I can't get a
 farm
or bunker erect and therefore usually have only 1 footman and 3 peasants.

 The only thing available on my grid is a1 a2 a3 b1 b2 b3 c1 c2 and c3.
 What
am I doing wrong? How do I get to the minds or kill he enemy to get to the
 other goldmind and wood?

Any help world be appreciated. Frustrated for I have been trying since
yesterday and have gotten no further.

[Audyssey] Sound RTS, a good start, but I'd like to see more.

2007-07-05 Thread Christopher Bartlett
Ok, I've demolished the computer in the hardest
single-person mode. Sadly, it wasn't very
difficult as the computer AI isn't very
sophisticated. If it can't overwhelm you at the
beginning, it has a tendency to lose all its
military units. I found myself playing a game of
maze tracking to find the four squares that
contained the buildings I had to neutralize
before I could gain victory. By this time, I had
six footmen, 5 archers and two knights, so I was
fairly sure I wouldn't run into anything bigger
than me. And, given the time I took, and the
buildings that the enemy had, I should have
encountered a constant stream of units, at least footmen and archers.

I think this is a brilliant concept, and once you
get used to the interface, which is unlike
anything I've seen in the audio games market, it
is a game with vast potential, particularly in
multi-player mode, which is something I intend to
try tomorrow evening, if I can figure out how to do it.

A couple of quirks to discuss. Having studied
French a long time back, I was able to figure out
the odd speaking of certain numbers. In French,
there is no seventy, eighty or ninety. Seventy
is written as sixty ten. Eighty is written as 4
* 20. Ninety is written as four * twenty
ten. I've heard this harks back to the
disastrous loss to the Germans in 1870. Anyway,
when you hear that you have sixty sixteen wood,
this = 76, four twenty five = 85 and four twenty
nineteen = 99. I think this also extends to the
treatment of numbers over one hundred, so that
six one hundred four twenty fifteen would be
6*100 + 4*20 + 15 = 695. This is a quirk of
translation, and should probably be addressed in
the full English translation release.

Wish list:

1. A better computer AI that takes advantage of
its buildings, resources and ability to construct
units to replenish itself after the first
devastating losses against a careful
player. Ideally, the computer should be able to
make the same choices as the player can do by
rule, and should be constantly striving to renew and upgrade its forces.

2. I'd like to see the cap of 20 food production
removed, (if such exists). It imposes an
artificial limit on unit construction, and while
constrained choice creates some interesting
tactical choice elements, there are enough
resource-based constraints already in the game
not to need this artificial one that violates the theme of the game.

3. It would be nice if peasants and footmen
could cross-grade at a barracks, and perhaps
footmen could upgrade to archers as well. This
would be chrome and isn't a necessary feature,
but it would afford the player some more flexibility.

4. It would be nice to be able to set a flag to
tell troops to capture installations, rather than
simply destroying them. For instance, capturing
a town hall, keep or castle would give the captor
the resources already stored in that facility, a
farm would provide production, etc. The choice
between raiding and conquest could be interesting
and lend an air of desperation with the choice of
trying to hold an installation, or destroying it in the face of an enemy.

5. I think farms ought to work like gold mines
and woods do, in that peasants should have to
exploit them to store up food, and units are paid
rations periodically in order to keep them in the
field. This would bring food in line with the
other basic commodities, and further constrain
the choices of the player(s) as they have to mind
their food supply as well as their gold and wood supplies.

6. In order to implement my suggestion about
capturing facilities, we would need an additional
order on the military units' menus, something
like set mode to claim/destroy, like the set mode
to offensive/defensive option that already exists.

7. Just for ease of reading numbers, I'd like to
see the English numbering system used as, while I
understand the French system, it isn't intuitive
for me when spoken in English. I know that
quatre vingt-sisx is 86, but four twenty six takes me a second to parse.

For those who don't speak French, I roughly said
that I like playing the game and that I hope the
developer will continue with its development as I
think it represents a revolutionary paradigm
shift in the industry. I wasn't nearly that
eloquent, as most of my French has slipped away
with the differential equations I stopped using a
while back, but I though it a deserved courtesy
to a developer who has created something as
interesting and potentially ground-breaking as
SoundRTS. Though my wish list and commentary
before is picky, over all, I give

If there weren't so many types of units in the game, you could define
keystrokes like p for peasant, shift p for all peasants, f for farm, shift f
for all farms, f for footman--oh wait, we just used that for farm.. Don't
change this game--I think it's awesome the way it is--I love the diversity
in unit types. I can't wait to use the dragon and catapult and mage--sounds
awesome. One question though: when you play a multi-player game, it says

Subject: [Audyssey] About SoundRTS

 Hello,

I have just joined the list so I will try to reply to the questions about
SoundRTS in this mail. I hope it will not be too long.

 1. The first person mode

You don't need first person mode when you learn this game. The first
 person
mode is a remnant of the previous prototypes (the map mode didn't exist at
the beginning). I removed it but the alpha testers were attached to it
 (and
I was not sure if the map mode would work), so I put it back. Here is how
 it
works: you don't need the mouse ; press Control + space to enter this
 mode,
press Escape to go back to map mode ; use left and right to turn ; the up
and down keys don't work ; use tab to select your target (but you will
 have
to turn to select every thing because you can only select what is in front
of you) ; to move, use backspace on your target, or give an order with A
 and
Enter. You can't go to a far square in this mode, except by following a
 path
 to the next square.

 2. Is it possible to save the game?

It is not possible to save the game yet, sorry.

 3. do you have to control one thing at a time?

You can ask a peasant to mine gold, then you can ask another peasant to
gather wood while the first one is still mining gold, etc.

 4. I haven't seen any enemies yet, is that because I haven't proceeded far
 enough in the game?

Yes. The first chapter is quiet if you don't wander too far.

 5. The keys are a bit confusing.

It's true. Maybe it would be possible to make a game with simpler commands
 ;
it wouldn't be the same game, though, but this is not a problem. You would
only have to make decisions. For example, how many peasants you want to
recruit, and what kind of resources you want to gather first. It would be
menu based. Then you can navigate in the world and examine it while it is
evolving. In fact one of the interesting aspects of this game is when many
peasants are working at the same time on different things.

Ok, I've demolished the computer in the hardest
single-person mode. Sadly, it wasn't very
difficult as the computer AI isn't very
sophisticated. If it can't overwhelm you at the
beginning, it has a tendency to lose all its
military units. I found myself playing a game of
maze tracking to find the four squares that
contained the buildings I had to neutralize
before I could gain victory. By this time, I had
six footmen, 5 archers and two knights, so I was
fairly sure I wouldn't run into anything bigger
than me. And, given the time I took, and the
buildings that the enemy had, I should have
encountered a constant stream of units, at least footmen and archers.

I think this is a brilliant concept, and once you
get used to the interface, which is unlike
anything I've seen in the audio games market, it
is a game with vast potential, particularly in
multi-player mode, which is something I intend to
try tomorrow evening, if I can figure out how to do it.

A couple of quirks to discuss. Having studied
French a long time back, I was able to figure out
the odd speaking of certain numbers. In French,
there is no seventy, eighty or ninety. Seventy
is written as sixty ten. Eighty is written as 4
* 20. Ninety is written as four * twenty
ten. I've heard this harks back to the
disastrous loss to the Germans in 1870. Anyway,
when you hear that you have sixty sixteen wood,
this = 76, four twenty five = 85 and four twenty
nineteen = 99. I think this also extends to the
treatment of numbers over one hundred, so that
six one hundred four twenty fifteen would be
6*100 + 4*20 + 15 = 695. This is a quirk of
translation, and should probably be addressed in
the full English translation release.

Wish list:

1. A better computer AI that takes advantage of
its buildings, resources and ability to construct
units to replenish itself after the first
devastating losses against a careful
player. Ideally, the computer should be able to
make the same choices as the player can do by
rule, and should be constantly striving to renew and upgrade its forces.

2. I'd like to see the cap of 20 food production
removed, (if such exists). It imposes an
artificial limit on unit construction, and while
constrained choice creates some interesting
tactical choice elements, there are enough
resource-based constraints already in the game
not to need this artificial one that violates the theme of the game.

3. It would be nice if peasants and footmen
could cross-grade at a barracks, and perhaps
footmen could upgrade to archers as well. This
would be chrome and isn't a necessary feature,
but it would afford the player some more flexibility.

4. It would be nice to be able to set a flag to
tell troops to capture installations, rather than
simply destroying them. For instance, capturing
a town hall, keep or castle would give the captor
the resources already stored in that facility, a
farm would provide production, etc. The choice
between raiding and conquest could be interesting
and lend an air of desperation with the choice of
trying to hold an installation, or destroying it in the face of an enemy.

5. I think farms ought to work like gold mines
and woods do, in that peasants should have to
exploit them to store up food, and units are paid
rations periodically in order to keep them in the
field. This would bring food in line with the
other basic commodities, and further constrain
the choices of the player(s) as they have to mind
their food supply as well as their gold and wood supplies.

6. In order to implement my suggestion about
capturing facilities, we would need an additional
order on the military units' menus, something
like set mode to claim/destroy, like the set mode
to offensive/defensive option that already exists.

7. Just for ease of reading numbers, I'd like to
see the English numbering system used as, while I
understand the French system, it isn't intuitive
for me when spoken in English. I know that
quatre vingt-sisx is 86, but four twenty six takes me a second to parse.

Don't know if someone's already replied to this, but I'll do it anyway. You
have to use strategy a bit more than that, for example, its good to have one
peasant mining gold and recruit another peasant to mine wood. Also, get a
barracks up as quick as you can, so you can get more footmen. I don't think
you'll need archers for chapter one, but they do help.

How do I get to the minds or kill he enemy to get to
 the
 other goldmind and wood?

Any help world be appreciated. Frustrated for I have been trying since
yesterday and have gotten no further.

If there weren't so many types of units in the game, you could define
keystrokes like p for peasant, shift p for all peasants, f for farm, shift
 f
for all farms, f for footman--oh wait, we just used that for farm.. Don't
change this game--I think it's awesome the way it is--I love the diversity
in unit types. I can't wait to use the dragon and catapult and
 mage--sounds
awesome. One question though: when you play a multi-player game, it says
something about making your own games--how?

 Subject: [Audyssey] About SoundRTS

 Hello,

I have just joined the list so I will try to reply to the questions about
SoundRTS in this mail. I hope it will not be too long.

 1. The first person mode

You don't need first person mode when you learn this game. The first
 person
mode is a remnant of the previous prototypes (the map mode didn't exist
 at
the beginning). I removed it but the alpha testers were attached to it
 (and
I was not sure if the map mode would work), so I put it back. Here is how
 it
works: you don't need the mouse ; press Control + space to enter this
 mode,
press Escape to go back to map mode ; use left and right to turn ; the up
and down keys don't work ; use tab to select your target (but you will
 have
to turn to select every thing because you can only select what is in
 front
of you) ; to move, use backspace on your target, or give an order with A
 and

 4. I haven't seen any enemies yet, is that because I haven't proceeded
 far
 enough in the game?

Yes. The first chapter is quiet if you don't wander too far.

 5. The keys are a bit confusing.

It's true. Maybe it would be possible to make a game with simpler
 commands
 ;
it wouldn't be the same game, though, but this is not a problem. You
 would
only have to make decisions. For example, how many peasants you want to
recruit, and what kind of resources you want to gather first. It would be
menu based. Then you can navigate in the world and examine it while it is
evolving. In fact one of the interesting aspects of this game is when
 many
peasants are working at the same time on different things.

Re: [Audyssey] question about sounds

2007-07-05 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi andy,
Generally, speaking the game effects you hear are wav file recordings
which are played back and positioned accordingly by DirectSound.
For example, to make the sound of a thunder storm in a game just record
the sound of it raining somewhere, use Goldwav to edit it the way you
like, save it as a 22500 or 44100 KHZ wav file, and then load and play
it in your game using DirectSound. If you are using 3D effects they have
to be mono for DirectSound to position them with the 3D buffers.

get your peasants exploiting wood and gold for you from the start, and

They'll take out the small amounts of enemies that come from that side and
keep the peasants alive. Start adding on, building buildings and

Hi Damian,
Well, there are some effects you just can not create on your own like
explotions as none of us really have the material to make them. In such
a case I would just buy or copy one.
However, you might me amazed of the hundreds of effects you can make at
your own home with no cost. Record fans to supply ambience, open and
close doors, step sounds, ringing phones, radio static, etc.
Did you know you can use a jucy piece of fruit or a head of lettuce to
make really grose flesh wound effects or injery effects by chopping it

Re: [Audyssey] question about sounds

2007-07-05 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi,
I don't want you to think that making all sound effects is easy. It
really depends on the effect required. Some are very easy, and others
are somewhat difficult.
For example, for a space station or lab you might want to record your
home air conditioner unit, alter it some in Goldwave, and out comes a
really cool background effect. That is easy.
Now, if you want something like a laser beam that is much more
difficult. to design. You need software to do digital test tone
generation, and have to specify length, tone, and other things to come
up with some sort of laser effect. Then, you might want to run it
through Goldwave and see what you can do with it. They are very tricky
to make. For something like that I tend to buy rather than make.
Now, I assume you have heard of the jedi light saber from star wars.
Interesting enough that familiar hum isn't that difficult toreproduce
provided you have the materials to do it. Basically, they took an old
tv set, turned the volume off, and recorded the hum of the tubes inside
it. Then, altered them to what they are now.
A couple of years ago I tried the same thing with my dads 1920's radio,
and managed to come up with something similar. Not exact, but close
enough to have fun with.
Point is some game effects are easier than others to make. You'd be
surprised what you can do with the right software and enough creativity
to turn ordenary sounds into new and futuristic ones, or make something
new sound old.

[Audyssey] Sount RTS Suggestions

2007-07-05 Thread Shadow Dragon
Hi,

First of all, let me just I love this game. Its definitely the first of its
kind, and I realize its just a beta. Here's some suggestions I came up with for
the games improvement. Let me know what yall think?

1. Races. Humans are cool and all, but it'd be nice to be able to play as orcs
as well. And if you're not sticking strictly to warcraft2 style gaming, you
could use nightelves and undead, or just elves if you'd rather not steal a
concept of blizards.

2. Ships. We definitely need ships here, and water areas of the map. Ship
warfare was always fun in the original game, especially when subs come into
play.

3. Demelition. In the game you had dwarven or goblin demilition teams depending
on what race you were. It'd be cool to have these in the game for massive
destructionage.

4. Different voices for each unit. I realize this one coul be a bit hard, but
there's plenty of people on this list and elsewhere that I'm sure would
voluntarily record different voices for each unit you make.

5. Better sound effects. I'm not sure about this one, I realize the game is
free and high quality sounds are hard to come by, but this game could use some
better ones.

Despite all that, this game is absolutely awesome. I've always wanted to play
an RTS, and I have my chance now. I'm guessing you'd have done most of these
improvements when the game went out of beta anyway, but just figured I'd toss
my two cents in.

Re: [Audyssey] Sount RTS Suggestions

2007-07-05 Thread Che
  Hey ShadowDragon and all,
I agree this game rocks, I am totally addicted, and lost my first MP
battle today to Cane, who is a heck of a strategist.
I would reallly like to see a chat feature added so games could be
coordinated before starting, or at least a game note detailing what map is
to be played and how many players are wanted.
You might note that all the sounds are in the sounds folder of the game,
and can be changed out, I have replaced a few myself just as a test, and it
works great.
There are over 400 individual sounds in there though, so perhaps if
someone just wanted to replace the voice sounds, it would help a lot.
Also, if you see the name c h e listed as a server, that is mine, drop me
a line if you ever want to play, I'm always up for a game.
  Later all,

[Audyssey] purchasing games over the Internet

2007-07-05 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Actually this is not true. I don't know where you got your facts from,
but internet shopping in fact is safer than handing your credit card to
a stranger in a restaurant when paying for your dinner. When they take
your credit card to process, who knows if they are copying down your
number or copying down your signature. At least if the internet site you
purchase from is legit, your name is not stored with your credit card
number and all data transfered from your pc to the store server is
encrypted with ssl technology.

you may want to check your facts before spewing out false information
smile.

Andy Smith wrote:
 Hey,
Can I *please* explain my reason for doing this? And do you really
trust people with your credit card numbers? Think those servers are

[Audyssey] Rail Racer final tournament results

2007-07-05 Thread Che
Well, it took 6 days and a lot of laps but the tournament is finally over.
Here are the final points results:

NightRider 27 points
Deano 22 points
Aristotle 8 points
Marc1 8 points
razor 7 points
Thunder 5 points
Faylen 4 points

Deano made a run for the prize there at the end, but Night Rider secured
his victory by holding on to second place adding 7 more points to his 1st
place finishes on the first two tracks, way to race gang.
I listed only the players that actually got points, check the website for
all entered players and their times.
The times were just amazing, especially considering how long you guys have
had the game.
Night Rider and Deano, write me off list and I will send your money if you
have a pay pal account, if not you can get $200,000 and $100,000 added to
your Rail Racer accounts respectfully.
I am going to start a new tournament this weekend which will be open to
all racers, not sure what the prizes will be yet, But I can tell you The
Glove will be one of the tracks.
Refer to my previous posting about The Glove if you don't have it yet.
Also, I am working on a page where we can upload user tracks, vote on them
and download them as well to make track swapping much easier, more details
to come.
I hope you guys enjoyed the tournament.

Re: [Audyssey] adult games.

2007-07-05 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
This is excellent Cary. You beat me to the punch. It seems that the
games written in tads are the better ones, but the games in adrift are
not bad either. I'm in fact, in the process of writing an adult game
myself. I'm using the Adrift system. Due to getting a full time job and
moving over 1000 miles toward the East however, I've not had much time
to put into the game. I'm hoping to finish it sometime this year though.

I had some alpha testers, but most were too busy with real life and so
they did not report back problems and findings and suggestions as
quickly as I would hope. Now I'm in a similar situation where I can't
write or work on the game as often as I would like, but one can hope.

All the best.

Cary wrote:

These are adult interactive fiction games, that's what AIF stands for.
You'll need an interpreter to play them, if you've never played interactive
fiction before, it's not too hard to get an interpreter set up to play
interactive fiction games, the only thing is there are several different
interpreters and you may have to download 2 or 3 of them because there are
several different types of interactive fiction games that play on those
interpreters. Anyways, I've played a lot of these adult interactive fiction
games and they are really cool.
For online games, there are quite a few adult muds out there, go to
http://www.mudconnect.com and look for the category listing, under the
category listing look for adult-based muds there are a lot.
As for regular blind accessible games, I can't think of any, other than
 Spanker, as was previously mentioned.

Re: [Audyssey] question about sounds

2007-07-05 Thread Andy Smith
well I knew that not everything's easy, I was just pointingg out that
that I never really thought about creating stuff that way, what I did
to start with just to play around with is to go into goldwave, create
a new file, go to tools|expression evaluator. Type in syn(3200*t) in
that format, you'll get a tone. However you can do ootles of stuff
with it, I managed to create very interesting and creepy results, with
pitch control, and I turned it into some wacky drum beat, which I
deleted, darn! It needed a lot of work though, so I fired up Audition
and generated white noise. Then I mixed both the sounds together with
goldwave's mix command, and used a dopler from audition. Came out
freaky. I deleted it though to save myself from doing very nasty stuff
with that file. My point is that nothing's easy, just like you said
tom. Now I gonna play with audition right now. Just to play around
with.

 Hi,
I don't want you to think that making all sound effects is easy. It
really depends on the effect required.

  Hi Damian,
Well, there are some effects you just can not create on your own like
explotions as none of us really have the material to make them. In such
a case I would just buy or copy one.
However, you might me amazed of the hundreds of effects you can make at
your own home with no cost. Record fans to supply ambience, open and
close doors, step sounds, ringing phones, radio static, etc.
Did you know you can use a jucy piece of fruit or a head of lettuce to
make really grose flesh wound effects or injery effects by chopping it
with a big knife or other sharp instrument.

Re: [Audyssey] dumby at sound rts

2007-07-05 Thread Ron Schamerhorn
Hi Andy

Okay it requires your peasants, tell them 'go to' the mine, then 'exploit'
the mine. It may take a few moments before you see any results in your gold
but that will do it.

 Hi,

First of all, let me just I love this game. Its definitely the first of
its kind, and I realize its just a beta. Here's some suggestions I came up
with for the games improvement. Let me know what yall think?

 1. Races. Humans are cool and all, but it'd be nice to be able to play as
orcs as well. And if you're not sticking strictly to warcraft2 style
gaming, you could use nightelves and undead, or just elves if you'd rather
not steal a concept of blizards.

 2. Ships. We definitely need ships here, and water areas of the map. Ship
warfare was always fun in the original game, especially when subs come
 into play.

 3. Demelition. In the game you had dwarven or goblin demilition teams
depending on what race you were. It'd be cool to have these in the game
 for massive destructionage.

 4. Different voices for each unit. I realize this one coul be a bit hard,
but there's plenty of people on this list and elsewhere that I'm sure
would voluntarily record different voices for each unit you make.

 5. Better sound effects. I'm not sure about this one, I realize the game
is free and high quality sounds are hard to come by, but this game could
 use some better ones.

Despite all that, this game is absolutely awesome. I've always wanted to
play an RTS, and I have my chance now. I'm guessing you'd have done most
of these improvements when the game went out of beta anyway, but just
figured I'd toss my two cents in.
