Re: [Audyssey] judgment day survey

2008-05-14 Thread Dark
I can't imagine how you'd do that in Jd, afterall the players can't exactly
shoot each other.

the best you could do would be endurence type matches where the last player
standing won, or first to X amount of points, though maybe you could do
something like a tug of war where each ship one player shot transferred
oover to the other player's side, maybe with options of getting power-ups
which decreased the other player's shields, stopped their guns or stole
items from them.

I'm guessing though that this type of things is beyond the way you want Jd
to go though.

I'm not a pvp person myself, these were just some suggestions.

Beware the Grue!

another thing would be to have some sort of online matching thing
where 2 players rumbled it out I know that this is not strictly part
of the actual game but it would be fun if you just had player against
 player battles and tourniments.
At 10:18 AM 5/14/2008, you wrote:
Hi Liam.

Features liked:
- Unlockables
- All sounds in the game
- the videos are funny as heck! I get a kick out of 'em!
- The score posting
- The fact that once you beat it, for example you beat it once,
there's still more to come, wherez in
other games, beat it and you're done.
- Very accessible, and I like the bg music and voice-overs.
- I like the fact that the trophy announcements in the cabbinet
start from the left end of the stereo
field and goes right. Very neat.

Features I do not like much:
- The loudness of the sounds. Awesome sounds, but to hear the ships
I have to jack up my volume,
thereby making the machine gun and also the little bing bang! sound
it makes when you shoot a ship
down. So basically what I'm saying is, the ship sounds for the
rockets/copters/planes/disablers is too quiet.
- The fact that it beeps when you have no trophies or bonus games
and you try to select that
item. Same goes for the score menu, I think you should have it say
you have not earned any yet
or something.

My thoughts on the demo:
Very cool, although it doesn't give a span for the unlockable
content in the game. Maybe
limit the demo to a few levels as is, and then you can earn trophies
that way, and once
unlocked those trophies go away (the ones collected in demo),
because all you did was play
half a game anyway.

Features I think should be added:
- When in the trophy cabbinet and press enter it'd be neat if it
could play the sound bite that
pertains how you got it in the game. For example, when you get metal
mereen it says you're
one tough dude or whatever it says, I don't remember now, pressing
enter in the cabbinet
on a trophy should play the sound bite back.
- You should change the 12/13 trophy to 12/12 since the game came
out that day. Or,
keep the 12/13 and make a 12/12 one. That would be cool.
A feature that could be added down the road could be money or
somethingbased on how well your
game went, can be saved to purchase better weapons or something.

Just my thoughts, sorry for the post the size of Canada.

 Hi Liam,
the only noticeable difference would be in special game devices like
force feedback wheels. The current Managed DirectX libraries have known
problems with force feedback devices. I could support the wheels
themselves, but they would do without force feedback. that might come as
a major disappointment for those looking for that feature.
Other than that going ahead with the .Net engine would be fine.It is a
 rather decent gaming platform otherwise.

 Hi gamers,
As a lot of you know we are looking at porting USA Raceway, Tomb Hunter,
and STFC 2 to C++. While long term the advantages out way the
disadvantages I can not ignore the simple fact this is a huge
undertaking. Not only is it a major undertaking, but it will take a lot
of time to complete. Instead of releasing some games this year or early
next year we are talking maybe late 2009 or early 2010 before games
like Raceway will see the light of day. it is basically like starting
over from scratch and I don't really want to do that right now.
On the other hand, we have a huge library of stable source code written
for the Microsoft .Net Framework, written in VB and C# .Net, which means
that we could possibly have USA Raceway 1.0 out this year. All we really
need to do is update the engine to .Net 3.5, which is a miner upgrade,
and complete the current engine. It might even be possible to have it
ready by Christmas this year if we use the current .Net based engine.
Looking at this issue we really need to know what you gamers think. Are
you willing to wait an extra year for games like Raceway to be released
in native C++, or would you rather just get games like Raceway finished
using our current development language and tools? Remember we can always
choose to make the conversion to C++ at a later date/time. A time when
we aren't as rushed by those on a waiting list to get something out.
 Thanks.

[Audyssey] make a trophy

2008-05-14 Thread Liam Erven
One of the coolest things in my opinion about Judgment day is the trophy
system. However, I thought it would be fun to expand it. Right now there are
only 40 trophies. In v 1.5, which I'm planning on releasing this summer, I'd
like to expand this number. Here's where you come in. Feel free to suggest
trophies.
examples of good trophies.
earna trophy for a certain accuracy rating
earn a trophy for reaching a certain score
examples of bad trophies.
play the game at a certain time or date. There's enough of these in game.
Enter certain words in to the cheat console. There's only one of these, and
I'd like to keep it this way.

I'm also willing to make more bonus games. so feel free to suggest those as
well. But remember. If it's too complicated, I won't code it. Each bonus
game should take me no more than a week to code, and even that's kind of high.
For a point of reference. weapon search took me two days, parachute jump about
3, and number guess. Well I wrote that over a lunch break. And if you haven't
unlocked beep yet, just understand that that took me almost two weeks of hard
coding. So. apreciate it when you play it.

If you have ideas, feel free to email me, and if you're suggestion is picked,
well. You'll have the satisfaction of knowing you contributed to a game. I
really dont have any snazzy prizes.

ryan I think the boss should be real tough, he is the boss, so he
shouldn't be week, he should be the toughest muther in the game.
At 01:00 PM 5/14/2008, you wrote:
Hi,
I have received email from many of you about the 3D game, with many
questions, etc.
First, let's go over the updates: (I haven't uploaded anything)
I added jumping over the fence. Behind it there is yet another letter
with information getting to the boss.
I fixed the house bugs, specific houses had issues. I personally
tested them all now.
The Most FAQ:
Where is the boss, what is he, do I fight him
Okay, the boss is on a floating world, above you. Jumping the fence
will give you information to get to him. He is an ordinary human, the
leader of a gang, who wants to destroy you. You do not fight him in
the beta. However, this game is going into our game titled Shoot Da
Me, a game where you shoot with your arrows based on the sound heard
(getting more advanced). Once you hit most of the 400 copters, you
going into a side scroller (left and right) to look for the boss. You
don't find him. You then enter the 3D world. After a hunt, you should
find him. Once you find him, in the beta sapi alerts you that you have
found him. The game then ends. During the real game, you will fight
him. He is weak from hiding from you, and all you have to do is dodge
his attacks, and then shoot once he's down.
What I plan to add (3D - Only):
- Changing of weapons
- A menu of items you have and have not gotten
- Less sapi, more voiceovers

My Shoot Da Me Regular Game (Left, Right, Middle)
What I have started/finished in what I plan to add for SDM regular game:
- A partner (he gets in the way of your fire. Don't shoot him, you
loose health. He also can help fire too. But his miss is your miss.
(He chooses when to shoot, you can't shoot. Hope he doesn't miss)
- Every 15 times you hit, it will randomly choose whether you should
go to opposite mode (Hear Right press Left). If it chooses no, you
will play another 15 times, and again randomly choose. If your already
in opposite, and it chooses yes again, you will continue to play
opposite.
- More advanced sighted UI
Thanks!

One of the coolest things in my opinion about Judgment day is the trophy

 examples of bad trophies.
play the game at a certain time or date. There's enough of these in
 game.
Enter certain words in to the cheat console. There's only one of these,
and I'd like to keep it this way.

I'm also willing to make more bonus games. so feel free to suggest
 those
as well. But remember. If it's too complicated, I won't code it. Each
bonus game should take me no more than a week to code, and even that's
 kind of high.
For a point of reference. weapon search took me two days, parachute

Re: [Audyssey] judgment day survey

2008-05-14 Thread Dark
Hi Liam, here are a couple of trophy suggestions.

Ather's headache: defeat the supreme commander without being hit once.

Sattelite dish: Destroy the sattelite with a %100 accuracy rating.

failed at final hurdle: Be killed by Supreme commander Ather.

Early bird: play the game at 5.00 am.

Lonely hearts: play the game on feb 14th.

gunless: use only rockits and nukes hitting each targit, then being
destroyed when they run out.

Ammo waster: complete the game with below %25 accuracy.

As for minigames, I do really enjoy the fight against the supreme
commander, how about an extended endurence against either the
hovercraft or satellite or both?

For theme's sake, you could have this set up as a training exercise in
preparation for your next attack.

also, I really think X1 should make an appearence, just because he's
cool, especially if he shared the stage with Ather, an arguement
betwene those two would be quite amusing to here, hay, maybe you could
make a gofers style minigame, ie, hitting targits as fast as possible when
they pop up, , but have X1 and Ather as the gofers, with them increasing in
speed?

I'll deffinately look forward to the new version.

Beware the Grue!

I can definitely agree with the Lonely Hearts part, being currently
unattached. As for trophies, you could, as T said, have a trophy unlocked by
using only Nukes. It could be Duke Nukem or something like that. The same
for rockets, except then it could be Rocket Man. I also agree about being
able to hear the trophy messages again, and perhaps more additions to the
L-Works Theater?

 Hi Liam.

 Features liked:
 - Unlockables
 - All sounds in the game
 - the videos are funny as heck! I get a kick out of 'em!
 - The score posting
 - The fact that once you beat it, for example you beat it once, there's
still more to come, wherez in
other games, beat it and you're done.
 - Very accessible, and I like the bg music and voice-overs.
 - I like the fact that the trophy announcements in the cabbinet start from
the left end of the stereo
field and goes right. Very neat.

Features I do not like much:
 - The loudness of the sounds. Awesome sounds, but to hear the ships I have
 to jack up my volume,
thereby making the machine gun and also the little bing bang! sound it
makes when you shoot a ship
down. So basically what I'm saying is, the ship sounds for the
 rockets/copters/planes/disablers is too quiet.
 - The fact that it beeps when you have no trophies or bonus games and you
 try to select that
item. Same goes for the score menu, I think you should have it say you
 have not earned any yet
 or something.

 My thoughts on the demo:
Very cool, although it doesn't give a span for the unlockable content in
 the game. Maybe
limit the demo to a few levels as is, and then you can earn trophies that
 way, and once
unlocked those trophies go away (the ones collected in demo), because all
 you did was play
 half a game anyway.

Features I think should be added:
 - When in the trophy cabbinet and press enter it'd be neat if it could
 play the sound bite that
pertains how you got it in the game. For example, when you get metal
 mereen it says you're
one tough dude or whatever it says, I don't remember now, pressing enter
 in the cabbinet
on a trophy should play the sound bite back.
 - You should change the 12/13 trophy to 12/12 since the game came out that
 day. Or,
keep the 12/13 and make a 12/12 one. That would be cool.
A feature that could be added down the road could be money or
 somethingbased on how well your
game went, can be saved to purchase better weapons or something.

Just my thoughts, sorry for the post the size of Canada.

I find the impossible difficulty quite easy. much easier than hard in fact.
It would rock if it had more levels or if it could be completed. now that's
what I'd call a challenge. I'm sure we'd all appreciate it if you could fix
the cheating problem too. cheaters get on my last nerve. The game should
also contain more levels and the boss should also be a lot harder. Also I
have a neat idea for a trophy. I can post it here or send it off list if you
want.

ok. so I've recently picked up the jd source code and I've wanted to make
some changes and enhancements. Of course ifyou've never played judgment
day, it would be a grand idea to head over to www.l-works.net and give it
 a try.

 1. What features do you like most about judgment day.
 2. on the flip side, what features do you like the least in judgment day.
 3. if you could add any feature big or small. What would it be and why.
 4. what are your views on the demo. is it too short, is it too easy, does
it need more things in it? or is it fine just the way it is.
 5. There is no number 5

any comments are apreciated, and it's my plan to release a patch hopefully
by the end of next week with some updates. And hopefully with in a few
months I'll be giving the game a complete overhall.

For theme's sake, you could have this set up as a training exercise in
 preparation for your next attack.

also, I really think X1 should make an appearence, just because he's
cool, especially if he shared the stage with Ather, an arguement
betwene those two would be quite amusing to here, hay, maybe you
 could
make a gofers style minigame, ie, hitting targits as fast as possible when
they pop up, , but have X1 and Ather as the gofers, with them increasing
 in
 speed?

I'll deffinately look forward to the new version.

 Beware the Grue!

 Dark.

another thing would be to have some sort of online matching thing
where 2 players rumbled it out I know that this is not strictly part
of the actual game but it would be fun if you just had player against
 player battles and tourniments.

Just my thoughts, sorry for the post the size of Canada.

 examples of bad trophies.
play the game at a certain time or date. There's enough of these in
 game.
Enter certain words in to the cheat console. There's only one of
 these,
and I'd like to keep it this way.

I'm also willing to make more bonus games. so feel free to suggest
 those
as well. But remember. If it's too complicated, I won't code it.
 Each
bonus game should take me no more than a week to code, and even that's
 kind of high.
For a point of reference. weapon search took me two days, parachute
 jump
about 3, and number guess. Well I wrote that over a lunch break. And
 if
you haven't unlocked beep yet, just understand that that took me almost
two weeks of hard coding. So. apreciate it when you play it.

If you have ideas, feel free to email me, and if you're suggestion is

Atheer should have more hits too.

I don't have any ideas for trophies, but it'd be interesting to see further
ground attacks on the base. Example, more bonus games. Maybe the bonus games
could be like a secondary mode, as in you paradrop into the base, then you
have to fight your way through the base into the weapons room or even make
it MGS style where its a stealth mission but you can still engage the guards
if you get caught, then you collect weapons, then go to another part of the
base, etc. Could be kind of like an overworld thing with a ground battle at
the end, either ather or some other general in his army. Would add more
replayability to the game.

The only problem with a currency system is there's already upgrades in the
game based on how much you've unlocked, so adding purchasable upgrades would
be weird and kind of mess up the theme of the game.

Interesting, but how hard would that be to code? And how long would such an
enterprise take? We have to look at what Liam's willing to do here.

I don't have any ideas for trophies, but it'd be interesting to see further
ground attacks on the base. Example, more bonus games. Maybe the bonus
 games
could be like a secondary mode, as in you paradrop into the base, then you
have to fight your way through the base into the weapons room or even make
it MGS style where its a stealth mission but you can still engage the
 guards
if you get caught, then you collect weapons, then go to another part of
 the
base, etc. Could be kind of like an overworld thing with a ground battle
 at
the end, either ather or some other general in his army. Would add more
 replayability to the game.

Its just a suggestion. It'd be cool if it got put in, but I'm not expecting
it since its probably beyond the scope of the work he's willing to put into
the game.

Hmmm, so perhaps in a future update? I agree, it does sound interesting and
fun, but I figured it wold be beyond the scope of what you had in mind for
this update.
