Nope, you can't actually resurrect them. You can summon their bones if you 
have a Necromancer, but then you can't control themand any injuries they 
sustained before they died will still be present and can't be healed. If you 
have a druid you can Reincarnate them, but then they might come back as 
something else that's weaker than what they used to be. On the up side you 
can crontrol them. But you can only do that once.

Hi Kieth.

first as to the elemental weapons. yes, they will do more damage to 
elemental creatures of the opposing element, so try your flaming stuff on a 
water elemental. however, there aren't that many elemental creatures in the 
dungeon, and the rest of the time elemental weapons are no better than 
ordinary ones, so accept for a couple of battles there's not really much 
need to worry about them too much.


As to bringing characters back, well necromancers can of course raise them 
as skeletons, and there are some ways to raise them as zombies as well 
(though I'll let you find those for yourself). there is also a reincarnate 
ability, which will bring them back to life but change their race, however 
they'll be extremely weak in this circumstance, so usually it's better to 
try and avoid death if you can.

2 question about entombed.  First, I have come across some items that have 
flaming or sky in the name.  When I do an examination of the item, it says that

- In the last update I had accidentally caused many of the zombies to move 
very slowly even though their footstep sounds stayed normal.  This was done 
during testing as I worked on new features and I forgot to change it back 
before posting the official file.  It is fixed now.
- The chatlog file now includes messages that you typed yourself.
- I've added an official User Agreement which can be found in the file User 
agreement.txt.
- I've made adjustments to the second map and also added in the ground work 
for what will become the next few maps.
- More security measures have been added.
- A new sub map has been added which will bridge the second and third main 
maps.  This sentence is funnier once you've been there.  You must be atleast 
level 20 to enter this new map and you get there by heading East on Wilson 
road.

office go south three times, then go east until you reach the mine.
Once you have gone in the passage under the saloom you will find the

As far as I know you can only save games pertaining to your current 
character/characters. If you start a new game with a different party your 
old game is wiped out. However, if you want to you can simply back up 
your saved games and if you want to play them again copy them back into 
your saved games folder.


Now, as for dropping or dismissing party members you can't do that. Part 
of the strategy in Entombed is being able to make the most out of what 
you have. If you have a fairy then its up to you to figure how to make 
him or her effective. While fairies don't seem like a big asset at first 
they actually can be a big help once you improve their charm skills etc. 
They are very fast so get multiple attacks, and when they have their

problem. Its a case of initial impressions are deceiving, and I wouldn't 
write your fairy off as a complete wimp at this point.

Yes. That would be nice. I'm not just interested to see how each game 
fared in the competition I'd like to use them as a bit of marketing 
research to see what kinds of things are important to the community. Is 
innovation more important than sound quality, or is stability more 
important than innovation or sound quality. Its a good way for devs like 
you and I to get a quick idea of the kinds of things people are looking 
for in a game.

Also, when you save a game, does the entombed program only save one 
game. meaning, if I crate another character to play with, and then 
save it, will it erase the one I had running before?

Hi Philip,

that's quite understandable. I know that story all too well. One reason 
it has been taking ages to finish MOTA is I am easily distracted with 
other things, keep putting it off until tomorrow, and the next thing I 
know its been like 10 days since I touched the code. I might work on it 
for six hours, and then not touch the code again for another four or 
five days. I don't stick to a daily schedule like I should.


Anyway, I think the best way to handle this is by setting a minimum 
limit of 90 days. That's 30 more days than we had the last competition, 
and I'm pretty certain someone with decent time management skills could 
produce something like that on time. My initial draft of Montezuma's 
Revenge was actually produced in roughly three months and I coded it 
from scratch. So with something like BGT I'm sure I or anyone else could 
get things done much quicker.

Hi,

I agree with Dark. I think two months was far too short. I think four to 
six months would have been a much better time frame for the competition 
entries. I know one reason I myself didn't join was I didn't think I 
could produce anything of decent quality in two months. Sure I could 
have cranked out an arcade game like Troopenum or something, but some of 
the ideas I had were things like Prince of Persia, Castlevania, or 
similar type games that were complex enough to take at least six months 
for a basic game let alone fully develop it into a stable game for 
production purposes. Even a simple side-scroller like Q9 would need more 
than two months for a basic game demo.

Philip, this was a great competition, however one feeling I did have 
is that the participants didn't exactly have time to really let their 
skills show through, given the two month time frame.


Retroremakes, darkbasic, donation coder.com and other such pc indi 
sites that have similar developement competitions usually give a six 
month developement period.


While I don't despute we got some good games, not everyone who was 
going to enter got a chance to create a game, and I do feel that a 
longer developement period would have yielded a few more entries,  
heck even the arborell gamebook competition gives four months, and 
that's just for the writing of a gamebook in text, rather than the ful 
programming of a game.


I would therefore really suggest that the next competition instead of 
being short notice, gives 4-6 months of developement time to entrants, 
to make certain everybody who enters can do the best he/she can.


I'd therefore personally suggest you announce the comp in august or 
so, with developement time running september to december, and the 
winner to be announced in January.


This way everyone gets notice, and we have a nice build up to the new 
2013. The timing however doesn't matter, sinse obviously it needs to 
be convenient to you, I do however very much think that 4-6 months 
developement time would yield even better results for the next 
competition.

Hard to believe you haven't had a life saver. Basically, they are round 
fruit flavored candies with a hole in the center. They come in two 
kinds. The hard original candy, and they have a gummy version that 
tastes a bit like gummy bears. You have your choice of a pack of mixed 
fruit flavors and then they have some other flavors like peppermint, 
wild berry, cherry, watermelon, whatever. :D

Yeah, I completely agree; that was my problem... I had too much things for
the school to do, tests, homeworks and so on that I didn't have a time to
show my real programming knowledge, like I showed in new beta of aliens
attack...  Honestly, like aprone said, I had also feeling that 2 months are
a whole century and I wasn't working on the contest thing all the time.
But once I've started to write a code and do everything connected to making
a contest thing I was taking every millisecond to do it, even in the school
during classes, during breaks and so on.
I honestly wanted and desired that I'll create action game, but I didn't
have, and, honestly, I'm not sad, playmania is just good as a new idea. I
alrighty planned which new serious games to add (not for the kids *smiles*)
and to make it famous and serious game collection; first I attended to make,
and a thing with which I won a bgt contest...

That's why I said 4-6, rather than 6 straight out.

i do think however that the initial time was too short. While you, and other
developers like Aprone obviously work fairly quickly, that is not true of
everyone, especially first time entrants into the competition who may have
to try a number of versions of their game, or people with larger commitments
in other areas such as family or work.

For instance, last year I submitted an entry myself to the windhammer
gamebook competition. However this year as I'm finishing my phd thesis I
have not begun writing one. Sinse however the competition runs from April to
the end of september, there is a possibility that if (as I hope), I finish
my thesis in august, I might be able to run off a gamebook for the
competition in september once it is done, something I couldn't do if the
submission period was shorter.

I do believe some of the bugs we saw in the competition games, like the
sound and confusion issues in spaceship and the centering issue in the glass
pouring game in playmania would've been resolved if the developers had had a
little more time to work, and after all if a developer is a speed freak they
can always finish the game early, this is why I personally would rather too
much time than too little, that's why I'd myself plump for 4-6 months, as
indeed the graphical indi game developement competitions have.

It is however your decision.

I've posted a version 2.5 update.  It's just a small patch for now.

Finally, we have a confirmed winner of the BGT competition! Some recent 
unexpected freelance work delayed this announcement, since I wanted to do 
the thing properly and make sure I had counted everything exactly right. 
Now, however, the result is final.


It was a very even competition. Obsessive Compulsive was generally ranked 
very highly for innovation, The Spaceship received very favorable scores 
on sound quality, and so did Playmania. The result is as follows:


Third place: The spaceship.
Second place: Obsessive Compulsive.
First place: Playmania.

Thus, we award the prise of BGT Pro Unlimited to Nikola Stojsic. 
Congratulations!


We will now be taking down the games from our server, but of course we 
encourage the participants to host the files themselves so that these 
games are not lost.


I feel that this competition worked out splendedly, and so I have plans to

I actually thought about a PHP solution, but came to the same conclusion as 
you regarding cheating. I didn't want to spend the time coming up with a PHP 
script that made cheating hard but still convenient to actually vote. So I 
decided to do it by email. I might look at other alternatives for the next 
competition though as you suggest.


As for Jim's statistics posts, I haven't actually read those - believe it or 
not. Smile. Numbers scare me. But seriously, I'll think it through for the 
next one and try to come up with a method that works for everyone.

things are calculated and what were intermediate results. A simple way
to see that people like numbers: Jim's monthly posting report.

Just to be clear: I think that it's important to give a detailled result
for such a contest: number of votes, average for each game and for each
criteria, and average of all grades for each game.

I think that it's important to see what other people though about the
different criterias, first to see if it was going in the sens of what
you voted or not, and to be sure that you didn't invented the result
(I'm sure you didn't, but I think you must be completely transparent on
how you made your calculation rather than just giving the rankings like
magic)

It's also interesting in case you want to participate to a next edition
of the contest. You can better know what is expected.

In conclusion, the keyword here is transparency.

I'd be vaguely interested in seeing the figures, just to see what average 
scores were. I could however quite happily live without knowing them, so if 
it will take more than about five or ten minutes work to get them, please 
don't worry.

Hello,

Just to be clear: I think that it's important to give a detailled result 
for such a contest: number of votes, average for each game and for each 
criteria, and average of all grades for each game.


I think that it's important to see what other people though about the 
different criterias, first to see if it was going in the sens of what 
you voted or not, and to be sure that you didn't invented the result 
(I'm sure you didn't, but I think you must be completely transparent on 
how you made your calculation rather than just giving the rankings like 
magic)


It's also interesting in case you want to participate to a next edition 
of the contest. You can better know what is expected.


In conclusion, the keyword here is transparency.

[Audyssey] Exact figures of the competition?

Hi all,

Quentin expressed interest in seeing the exact figures of the competition 
result, so I wanted to put the question out there to see how many other people 
would be interested in this. I did not initially intend to publish the exact 
numbers, just the announcement of who came first, second and third. So for this 
reason I did not write down the exact results when I calculated them as I did 
it mostly in my head a couple days ago. However, if there is interest in this I 
can go back and recalculate. It'll take me a bit of time, which is why I want 
to ask first to see how many people are actually interested. Should I give 
averages for each participant, or are the general results I have provided as 
mere text descriptions enough?

Oh I did this calculation a few days ago, but in my head. I didn't write the 
results down as I was not intending to publish the complete figures, just 
the plain result of who won and who came second and third. But if people 
really want the exact details for some reason, I can go back and 
recalculate.

Welcome. If you want an overview of most of the top game sites for gamers who 
are blind, go to www.7128.com and look for the top 25 list button at the bottom 
of the page.  The top 25 list is updated each year.  You can go directly from 
that list to the great sites you have already been told about and a number more 
that also have some great games.  

Depending on the type of games you are interests in, you might also want to 
check out 7-128 Software's games as well on our website.  The Inspector Cyndi 
in Newport games are mystery games much like Clue for you to solve.  In 
addition we have word and puzzle games as well.

Currently the results are just written out as a long list. I don't have 
average calculations for each criteria written and out I would need to go 
through the whole list again to find these. But as I said, Jeremy scored 
quite high for innovation but not quite as high for stability, while Claudio 
and Nikola both scored highly on sound quality but not as much for 
innovation. That is a general summary, anyway.

skills to increase when you go up in levels.  It's a lot like Diablo (for

Right now I'm slugging though with a necromancer, who rased another
necromancer, and my main character has a level 5 ice storm spell.  Talk
about putting on the hurt.
   One more question though.  Is there  a way to "dismiss" a character that
joins your party?  I've got a fairy trickster that really can't do anything
but cast a few spells that I'm not finding that accomodating to my whims, if
you will.   I mean, I could just turn on him, but then I run the risk of
dying and creating a new character and running into this guy again.

Also, when you save a game, does the entombed program only save one game.
meaning, if I crate another character to play with, and then save it, will
it erase the one I had running before?

Personally I felt like the contest was far too long.  I would have been a lot 
more revved up and excited about a contest lasting for only 2 or 3 weeks, but 
of course I understand I'm a minority in this.  With 2 months I ended up 
dragging my feet until the last week, LOL.

I don't actually expect to ever see a game contest this short though.  It makes 
far more sense to give at least a few months since the average participant will 
be wanting that.  :)  I just felt like sharing.

Oh yes, and congratulations to Nikola!  Well done!

Hi kieth.

You can only have one save at a time unfortunately.

As to dismissing characters, no there is no way to do that. The skill of an 
entombed player is to match your stratogy to what the random generator gives 
you, and use the strengths and weaknesses of your different party members to 
best advantage.


For instance, fairies are weak and easily hit, so the chalm spell of a 
trickster will be your friend, as will the tricksters' hide ability. Fairies 
also get many turns due to their speed, and high intelligence, so once you 
get to higher levels they can cause serious pain to your enemies, even 
though they are always at the risk of getting swatted.


The entombed double jobs system is however unique. Jason has mentioned a 
sequal on occasion, and even expanding the skills and environments system, 
so I'm really looking forward to that.

Hi Philip.

That's why I said 4-6, rather than 6 straight out.

i do think however that the initial time was too short. While you, and other 
developers like Aprone obviously work fairly quickly, that is not true of 
everyone, especially first time entrants into the competition who may have 
to try a number of versions of their game, or people with larger commitments 
in other areas such as family or work.


For instance, last year I submitted an entry myself to the windhammer 
gamebook competition. However this year as I'm finishing my phd thesis I 
have not begun writing one. Sinse however the competition runs from April to 
the end of september, there is a possibility that if (as I hope), I finish 
my thesis in august, I might be able to run off a gamebook for the 
competition in september once it is done, something I couldn't do if the 
submission period was shorter.


I do believe some of the bugs we saw in the competition games, like the 
sound and confusion issues in spaceship and the centering issue in the glass 
pouring game in playmania would've been resolved if the developers had had a 
little more time to work, and after all if a developer is a speed freak they 
can always finish the game early, this is why I personally would rather too 
much time than too little, that's why I'd myself plump for 4-6 months, as 
indeed the graphical indi game developement competitions have.


It is however your decision.

of course once I find out where the games are hosted I'll be glad to write
up audiogames.net entries for them.

Philip, this was a great competition, however one feeling I did have is that
the participants didn't exactly have time to really let their skills show
through, given the two month time frame.

Retroremakes, darkbasic, donation coder.com and other such pc indi sites
that have similar developement competitions usually give a six month
developement period.

While I don't despute we got some good games, not everyone who was going to
enter got a chance to create a game, and I do feel that a longer
developement period would have yielded a few more entries,  heck even
the arborell gamebook competition gives four months, and that's just for the
writing of a gamebook in text, rather than the ful programming of a game.

I would therefore really suggest that the next competition instead of being
short notice, gives 4-6 months of developement time to entrants, to make
certain everybody who enters can do the best he/she can.

I'd therefore personally suggest you announce the comp in august or so, with
developement time running september to december, and the winner to be
announced in January.

This way everyone gets notice, and we have a nice build up to the new 2013.
The timing however doesn't matter, sinse obviously it needs to be convenient
to you, I do however very much think that 4-6 months developement time would
yield even better results for the next competition.

Beware the grue!

[Audyssey] What I love about entombed

What I really love about entombed is that it allows a player to choose which 
skills to increase when you go up in levels.  It's a lot like Diablo (for 
the sighted) in that fashion.  And I like that you can choose a race and 
then a job, like in the paper and pencil dungeons and dragons type games.


Right now I'm slugging though with a necromancer, who rased another 
necromancer, and my main character has a level 5 ice storm spell.  Talk 
about putting on the hurt.
   One more question though.  Is there  a way to "dismiss" a character that 
joins your party?  I've got a fairy trickster that really can't do anything 
but cast a few spells that I'm not finding that accomodating to my whims, if 
you will.   I mean, I could just turn on him, but then I run the risk of 
dying and creating a new character and running into this guy again.


Also, when you save a game, does the entombed program only save one game. 
meaning, if I crate another character to play with, and then save it, will 
it erase the one I had running before?

categories: health, celebrity, crime, classics, nature and business. The 
Captain of each team gets to answer whether they think the question is a myth 
or a fact. 2 points will be scored for each correct answer. There will be 2 
bonus rounds but beware because you have to bet how many points you think you 
want to risk answering one of the 6 categories of your choice. Come on in and

have tonnes of information on all the different kinds of games, the latter
having more information about the sites and their newest game releases, and
the former having more information on the games themselves.

Also, Just thought I'd Correct you on a couple of things, tom:
1. its not "aliens in the outback" - its just alien outback.
And
2. In Shades, (the affectionate abbreviation/nickname we give shades of doom
for those who don't know), you're going through 9 levels of a research base
where an experiment has gone horribly wrong.
Just thought I'd flag those up so everyone is clear... lol.
Don't take it as a pedantic insult from me, just take it as a helping hand

These days there are several kinds of accessible games from your Space

game is called Shades of Doom and more or less follows a storyline 
similar to Doom where you go through a laboratory slaying monsters.

Sorry, I guess I should have looked at the site before speaking. Yes, 
you are right its not possible to get Fartman from BPC Programs, and 
unfortunately I don't know where else to get it. I checked my backups

Hmmm, most weerd, sounds a bit like a fruite flavoured polo mint.

Anyway, it seems quite a shame to miss out on the full version of the game. 
I suggest you drop Jason an E-mail about payment trouble.


Also however, have you considdered trying paypal? I myself have Paypal tied 
to my creddit card, which saves me having to type in credit card numbers, 
and is also useful on the occasions I need to send money straight off.


I know I could have paypal pid through my bank, though i don't do that 
myself sinse I don't want my actual account details anywhere online at all, 
and as it stands even if someone did! hack my account and charge me 5000 
pounds worth of stuff, it'd be blocked sinse my credit card has a low limit, 
plus I could cancel the payment at my bank before it did any harm.


Either way, wrant over to put it simply, paypal good, me like! keep loot 
safe, no body steal! gather many rocks, buy bigger club, become chief of 
tribe, bash heads with club! ug ug !

middle of it.  Supposedly, the creator's kid choked on a piece of candy, so 
he put the hole in it so if it got stuck in a throat, the person could 
still breath with it in there until they got the the hopsital.  And I wish 
I could figure out how to pay for the full edition.  For some reason, when 
i try and pay for it from the driftwood site, my credit card bank denies 
the payment. It's all payed up and I have credit avilable, but I have tried 
a bunch of times and it just tells me that the bank has rejected the 
transaction. Guess I'll have to stick with the free version.

that is written in wiki format. You can find it at

It's by no means complete, but does have a general key list.

As regards other matters in the game, the tab key will let you switch 
betwene different members of your party when equipping or using 
skillpoints, and will also switch betwene different views in the main 
inventory.


As to the map, it's simpler than you might think. just hit the slash 
key to get directions to the nearest unexplored space, the period key 
to get directions to the up staircase, and once you have found it, the 
comma to get directions to the down staircase, - though note it's 
probably worth checking the hole floor out for experience before going 
down.


Other important keys are c, which when used in inventory or indeed the 
shop brings up a compare menue to compare the item to what your party 
has equipped of that item type, x to examine, and the number keys 1-8 
which targit different areas of the body in battle.

got was a lot of "crap" about some swedish death metal band.  I know 
you can hit the shift key to pretty much access everything, the E key 
allows you to equip items, the I key lists your inventory.  The up 
arrow moves you north, and the rest of the cardinal arrows move you in 
those directions. Is there any way to lay a waypoint to remember where 
a stairwell is.  It's not like we can just draw a map when playing. 
Also, sometimes I save another person in the game, and then I have 
control of them when we get into a fight.  Is there any way to equip 
them outside of a battle?  And when moving around, lets say I have been 
heading East, if I hit the up arrow, does that make me turn in that 
direction, or do I automatically take a step north?  It would be nice 
if the creator of the game included a readme file when the game 
installs.  One more thing, as if there isn't enough to follow already. 
I plan on getting a laptop with windows 7 on it.  I currently use 
windows xp.  I have acquired a goblin card, which apprently allows me 
to create a goblin character. Is there any way I can port that option 
over to my Windows 7 machine, or do I have to start all over.  Would 
kind of  suck if i lost all the new jobs

Hi Kieth.

Firstly, I didn't mean wikipedia, I mean the entombed online manual that 
is written in wiki format. You can find it at

It's by no means complete, but does have a general key list.

As regards other matters in the game, the tab key will let you switch 
betwene different members of your party when equipping or using 
skillpoints, and will also switch betwene different views in the main 
inventory.


As to the map, it's simpler than you might think. just hit the slash key 
to get directions to the nearest unexplored space, the period key to get 
directions to the up staircase, and once you have found it, the comma to 
get directions to the down staircase, - though note it's probably 
worth checking the hole floor out for experience before going down.


Other important keys are c, which when used in inventory or indeed the 
shop brings up a compare menue to compare the item to what your party has 
equipped of that item type, x to examine, and the number keys 1-8 which 
targit different areas of the body in battle.

Hi, Dark was good enough to tell me how to use skill points to up my 
skills in the game Entombed.  He also gave me a lead on looking for 
entombed on wyki, but when I searched for entombed on that site, all I 
got was a lot of "crap" about some swedish death metal band.  I know you 
can hit the shift key to pretty much access everything, the E key allows 
you to equip items, the I key lists your inventory.  The up arrow moves 
you north, and the rest of the cardinal arrows move you in those 
directions. Is there any way to lay a waypoint to remember where a 
stairwell is.  It's not like we can just draw a map when playing.  Also, 
sometimes I save another person in the game, and then I have control of 
them when we get into a fight.  Is there any way to equip  them outside 
of a battle?  And when moving around, lets say I have been heading East, 
if I hit the up arrow, does that make me turn in that direction, or do I 
automatically take a step north?  It would be nice if the creator of the 
game included a readme file when the game installs.  One more thing, as 
if there isn't enough to follow already.  I plan on getting a laptop 
with windows 7 on it.  I currently use windows xp.  I have acquired a 
goblin card, which apprently allows me to create a goblin character. Is 
there any way I can port that option over to my Windows 7 machine, or do 
I have to start all over.  Would kind of  suck if i lost all the new 
jobs and races that were available to me.
