Re: [Audyssey] Devana info
Hello Thanks, sounds interesting. Is this version of the game based on version 1.6 on the sourceforge site? How would I go about playing the game offline, once I've downloaded the modified version from your site? Regards Dickson -Original Message- From: gamers-boun...@audyssey.org [mailto:gamers-boun...@audyssey.org] On Behalf Of Travis Siegel Sent: Monday, February 01, 2010 6:58 PM To: gamers@audyssey.org Subject: [Audyssey] Devana info Strategies for Devana. Devana is a web-based civilization like game of strategy and conquest (should you choose to go that route) When you start on devana, you're basically starting with nothing. You need to build a town, build it up, and defend it from enemy attackers (or become an enemy attacker) if you so choose. First things first. To start building your town, click on towns, it will bring up a page allowing you to create a town. Name it anything you like, and click create. That'll get you started. The game allows you to select your position on a map, but other than terrain positioning, there's very little need to worry about where you are physically located on the map for the most part, so don't worry about that piece. After you have your town created, you'll need to do several things. First, you'll want to click on your city hall (each faction calls it something different, but it's the only building you start out with when you begin, so it's easy to find) Select the town hall, and you will then be able to set taxes, and build additional buildings to enlarge your town. Now, the FAQ and guide indicate that you should build your granery, sawmill, quarries and iron foundries first. This is certainly an option, but I recomend another approach. First, upgrade your city hall to level 2. This does several things for you. First, it increases your gold maximum value, allowing you to have as much as 1000 gold on hand for building, and it also decreases the amount of time it takes to build other structures, as well as giving you a head start on some of the requirements for other structures you'll need/want to build later. Once you have your town hall at level 2, you can then begin building other things such as your grain fields, saw mill, stone quarries and iron foundries. With the town hall at level 2, these structures will build slightly faster than they otherwise would, giving you a slight advantage over other players who didn't go this route. However, since this is a realtime strategy game (for the most part) it won't afford as big an advantage as you might think, since you need to wait for the structures to finish being built before you can upgrade any of them to begin producing additional resources. However, every little bit helps, so that's why I mention it here. Now, the single most sought after resource in your early days of devana is gold. I highly recomend after you upgrade your town hall, and before building your other structures, or perhaps after you've built a couple and gotten additional resource production going, is to max out your gold collecting abilities so that you'll have plenty of gold for building structures to get you started. You do this by clicking on the town hall, and setting your tax rate. It's shown as a percentage, which is slightly misleading, since it's not really a percent, but more a flat rate, but you'll understand why it's called a percentage later on. To max out your gold capacity in your town, change your tax rate to 210 percent. (that's right, raise it to 210 which is the max it can be set to). This will max out your gold in less than 5 hours realtime. When you reenter the game, you should find that your gold is now at 1000/1000 (assuming you upgraded your town hall to level 2, otherwise you'll only have a capacity of 400 gold, in which case, setting your tax rate to 20 percent will max it out in the same amount of time, since you begin with 300 gold. Now, after you've gotten your 1000 gold, it's time to reduce the tax rate to something uusable that will not only allow you to regain used gold from building your initial structures, but will replenish your resources as well (since no resources are created when taxes are more than 100 percent). Set your tax rate to something around 20 percent or so (you are of course free to choose any number you like, but I've found that 10 to 20 percent seems to work best) Then, make sure you have all four basic resource types created, grain fields, saw mills, stone quarries, and foundries. You'll also want to upgrade at least 1 of each of these items to level 1 to generate additional resources. You are of course free to upgrade more than one resource in each category to further increase your resource generation, since the more upgrades, the faster things get created. After all that's done, you'll want to upgrade your town hall further, and build housing for your citizens. You only have a limited number of things you can build when you begin. By default, you can have a maximum of

These books can be found on Bookshare or you can pay to read them online at http://safari.oreilly.com which is the most accessible and comprehensive programming site I know of. As far as learning to write Windows forms applications in C# that is really the entire point of using a language like Visual C#. It provides a programmer with a quick and easy method to rapidly create, design, and deploy Windows applications. What a lot of blind programmers have trouble with is not the language, but understanding how to use the development tools properly. Any book you pick up and read will tell you to drag and drop a control from the toolbox. Well, technically speaking the method a sighted person uses isn't how we would perform that same task. For example, let us assume a programming tutorial tells us to drag and drop a button on our form. We can't do that you say. Of course not the way the books tell you how to do it, but there is a quick and easy alternative. First, make sure you are centered on the Windows form. Second, press control+w then the letter x. This will drop you in the toolbox window. Select button from common controls and it will be dropped on the center of your form. Now, press f4 on the button and a properties window will appear. Now, you can punch in the position, height, width, name, etc by hand. When done press escape and you have just created a new button. Press f7 on your newly created button to open the code window to write the button clicked event code for that button. That's justone example where knowing how to correctly use the IDE helps. As far as what to use in your games I highly suggest using SlimDX instead of Managed DirectX or XNA. The Managed DirectX API has been replaced by the XNA Framework, and is scheduled to be removed from the core DirectX SDK in the not too distant future. So Managed DirectX is something of a dead end. The XNA Framework isn't fully accessible do to its dependancy on XAct for audio development which also makes it a poor solution. SlimDX, however, is an open source API that uses the combo of DirectX and XNA components. Unlike the Microsoft XNA Framework the SlimDX team depends on the newer XAudio2 and X3D libraries for audio out put which makes it fully accessible, and doesn't require XAct for programming sound support. So that is my recommendation. HTH On 8/18/09, Dickson Tan dickson.j...@gmail.com wrote: Hello I've recently installed visual studio c# express 2008 and have been playing with it. Besides, if you can get your MR up to sixty or so before you try Gralgarak's tomb (very possible if you do it right), he's not that tough. It's when you fight him at lower levels that he gets to be a problem. Me, I don't even bother with that quest until my MR is past sixty simply because I have better things to waste Runes of Life on. And his shield is the best one you can get in the game currently without spending ATs or having Conjuration at an absurdly high level. Well there is one other shield and it's in Graldok, but its stats are exactly the same so it really doesn't matter which one you choose. But his boots, shirt and glooves are excellent armor for that part of the game, particularly if you did choose to do that quest right after Westwold. I used to do that all the time. Re: [Audyssey] [audyssey] Changes In STFC 2
Hi Thomas I think that would be a better idea as the player can choose the difficulty of the mission and get to find out the strengths and weaknesses of each class. I was playing STFC yesterday and was wondering which ship you took the stats from. For example, did u take the enterprise's stats from the enterprise-E since it was officially listed as a sovereign-class starship? And do the four sovereign-class starships have the same warp speed, ame phaser power, same shielding output and so on? I am wondering about this as the irritating Romulans and Klingons kept on decloaking and tried taking a shot at the Saleya even though my entire fleet was gathered there and I realised that the Monarchy's vital systems like torpedo launchers and power go offline more easily than it normally would the other starships and the Enterprise could survive a one on one fight with a klingon bird of prey or a romulan warbard and not get pretty banged up.
