hi,
so I was playing lone wolf mission 92
in this mission there are 4 cloaked destroyers that you need to
dispatch

however they are only visible with sonar
how would you target something that only shows up on sonar and
constantly moves
that would make it impossible to track

I then continue to dive to 320 or 330 if you don't crush first you can

you will never get hit with a depth charge or hardly.
Ofcause you will eventually have to run out of fuel and if you do you

Isn't one of the original 17 like that?, or am I thinking of something else.
Hmm. Now I'm curious.

Re: [Audyssey] lone wolf mission 7 - Re: games we alwayscomebacktoo?

2012-06-11 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi John,

Nope. I tend to get directly in front of that convoy and once I make
some kind of distraction I gun straight for the flagship once its
escorts are elsewhere. the principle thing about mission 17 is
breaking up the convoy so you can get a good solid firing solution on
the flagship. Otherwise there is always some other ship in your way
and you'll have to waist time and torpedoes sinking them one by one.
:D

Cheers!

- Original Message -
From: Thomas Ward Subject: Re: [Audyssey] lone wolf mission 7 - Re: games we
alwayscomebacktoo?

Hi John,

Well, its been a long time since I played that mission, but here
is a
basic overview of how I generally go about beating that mission.
I set
course for sector E-3, and wait for the enemy fleet to appear. I
face
north and as soon as the lead destroyers come within torpedo
range I

go for a couple of bow shots. I usually put one torpedo in each
destroyer damaging and sometimes sinking them. Obviously, this
takes
some precision and practice, and rather than relying on the
target
tracking I just do the calculations in my head which is usually
more

reliable when going for bow shots.

Anyway, once the lead destroyers are damaged or hopefully
destroyed I
dive down about 60 feet reload the two torpedoes, and begin
hunting
for the flagship. Obviously, its hunting me too, but as long as
I'm
quiet and evade I can maneuver around it and come up slowly and
put
all four torpedoes into its side. Worst comes to Worst I'll go
for a
stern shot and I've actually killed the battleship a few times
from
the rear. Its actually easier than the bow shots earlier because
the
battleship is wider and I'm less likely to miss the stern than
the

bow.

Basically, like I said I use the destroyers as a diversion. I
damage

or sink them which forces the fleet to stop and search for the
submarine. While the fleet is doing that I take whatever evasive
measures as necessary and then move into some position to hit the
battleship when it is hunting in the wrong location for me. The
hardest part of all this is you have to be good at aiming and
firing

torpedoes, and getting tricky shots like bow and stern shots as
sometimes those are the only way to hit the battleship while it
is
hunting. The more destroyers you sink or damage before going for
the
battle ship the easier it will be evading and attacking the
battleship
as you won't have them dropping depth charges down on your head
and

blowing fish out of the water. :D

Cheers!

Is there any more detail you could give me? I find that all the
ships tend to move in the exact same direction and I have a very

carriers are so far underwater. Somehow I managed to get all four

Hi John,

I've beaten mission 17 but you need to come up with a different
strategy than trying to shoot the battleship with all the enemy
ships
around it. The way I have beaten that mission is to make a
diversion
so the fleet will break up and hunt me. While they are hunting me
I'm
hunting the battleship. As soon as I can get a clear shot I pump
my

torpedoes into it, and then evade the hunting destroyers etc.
Basically, you have to be more offensive in that mission, take a
more
direct roll, rather than trying to shoot the battleship by
getting in
a lucky shot. You can't hit the battleship while its being
guarded,

and believe me I've tried. The only way I have beaten it is an
offensive one on one battle with the fleet.

Now, obviously the way I do it is extremely dangerous, gutsy, but
the

objective is to keep the escort ships occupied looking for my sub
while I sneak in as close as I dare to put three or four
torpedoes
into the battleship. If that fleet forms back up and leaves the
area
the game is pretty much over because there is no way to chase
them
down.So you have to keep them hunting and seeking while looking
for

openings to hit the battleship. I've gotten good at these sort of
offensive attacks.

On 6/11/12, john wrote:
While we're on the subject, have any of you managed mission 17?
I

can never get the torps through that tiny slot.

Re: [Audyssey] lone wolf mission 7 - Re: games we always comebacktoo?

2012-06-11 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi John,

I've beaten mission 17 but you need to come up with a different
strategy than trying to shoot the battleship with all the enemy ships
around it. The way I have beaten that mission is to make a diversion
so the fleet will break up and hunt me. While they are hunting me I'm
hunting the battleship. As soon as I can get a clear shot I pump my
torpedoes into it, and then evade the hunting destroyers etc.
Basically, you have to be more offensive in that mission, take a more
direct roll, rather than trying to shoot the battleship by getting in
a lucky shot. You can't hit the battleship while its being guarded,
and believe me I've tried. The only way I have beaten it is an
offensive one on one battle with the fleet.

Now, obviously the way I do it is extremely dangerous, gutsy, but the
objective is to keep the escort ships occupied looking for my sub
while I sneak in as close as I dare to put three or four torpedoes
into the battleship. If that fleet forms back up and leaves the area
the game is pretty much over because there is no way to chase them
down.So you have to keep them hunting and seeking while looking for
openings to hit the battleship. I've gotten good at these sort of
offensive attacks.

Hi Charles,

That is what I like about Lone Wolf. There is more than one way
to
complete a mission. I've completed mission 7 both with the deck
gun
and with torpedoes, and there is no right way to finish the
mission as
long as you destroy all the targets. Of course, what I like
doing is
I try different strategies each time I play to see if I can find
a
different way to complete the same mission rather than doing the
same

thing over and over again.

Cheers!

Hi Charles,

Oh, you can kill everything with torpedoes you just need to plan your
attack better. For example, I usually give the fleet a really good
ping with the active sonar to scare the ships into breaking formation
and then its possible to torpedo the cargo ships, oil tankers, etc as
soon as the hospital ships move out of the way. As long as you can
break up the formation there will be openings to stick some torpedoes
into the target ships.

Cheers!

Hi John,

Ah, yes. Now, I remember. Mission 5 is pretty easy. I usually don't
have a problem taking out that fleet. Once the destroyers are
eliminated the cargo ships are pretty much fair game. All they do is
run and I've killed plenty of them with the deck gun while they try to
flee. Lol!

As for mission 7 the deck gun does come in handy. Once I get the
destroyers out of the way I can pretty much just aim the deck gun and
pick off any of the ships I want. Although, it is pretty funny when
they break formation and run.

I remember this one game where the oil tanker from mission 7 ran
trying to lead me away from the rest of the fleet. Knowing i could
catch up with the cargo ships later I followed him from B4 to C1, and
I have to say it was a merry chase. However, when he made it to C-1 he
slowed and was turning when I popped up, with the deck gun, and
blasted him. He never knew what hit him. I blew him to pieces before
calmly checking my radar and moved to intercept the rest of the fleet.
:D

Your thinking of mission seven. Mission five is the one where you have a
group of cargo ships guarded by destroyers passing between two islands. My
personal way to finish that one is to set myself up in the middle of their
root and just chip down the numbers. As far as mission seven goes, I think
the deck gun rules.

True. In there own way the first 17 missions were like training missions.
A person needs it to take on some of the user created missions. Need I
mention my own created missions require a lot of skill. :D

However, one of my faves is mission 21 or 22 where you have to navigate up
the river and take out the damn. Its one of David Lants missions, and it
is a darn good mission. Getting around those blasted mines is a really
tight squeeze. Then, when you get near enough to smoke the damn you have a
battleship right there ready to waist you. Although, I usually waist him
first. Lol!

[Audyssey] lone wolf extra mission help

2011-12-22 Thread enes
hi,
are there any walkthroughs of the extra missions for lw?
I seem to have problems with the cloaked destroyers mission
and someone was talking about an extra mission called the clinton mission
I don't seem to have that
"If you think you are beaten, you are;
 If you think you dare not, you don't;
If you'd like to win, but you think you can't,
It's almost a cinch you won't;
If you think you'll lose, you've lost,
For out in the world you'll find
Success begins with a fellow's will
It's all in the state of mind.
"Full many a race is lost
Ere even a race is run,
 And many a coward fails
 Ere even his work's begun.
Think big, and your deeds will grow,
Think small and you fall behind,
 Think that you can, and you will;
It's all in the state of mind.
 "If you think you are outclassed, you are;
You've got to think high to rise;
You've got to be sure of yourself
before You can ever win a prize.
 Life's battle doesn't always go
 To the stronger or faster man;
But sooner or later, the man who wins
Is the fellow who thinks he can."

My attraction to Aces was the ability to roam the entire
Atlantic and North Seas at will. The game didn't pay any attention at
all as to where you went and patrolled, as far as I could tell, even
when it assigned you a quadrant.

I was always hoping to find a cheat code for the sucker to allow
unlimited ammo, fuel, and a Type-26 boat, not released until near the
end of the war, just to see how many convoys I could wrack up. Well,
I'm checking out Lonewolf and the tank one. Dunno how that one is going
to play out, since half the strategy in tank warfare was using your
environment, popping up from behind hills, taking your shot, moving
behind another hill and popping up again and basically sniping in armor.

My reply:

Oh, i hear you there. That's a frickin' awesome World War II submarine
game. Probably the best sub game ever written. I've tinkered with it,
but never was any good at it.

Well, it isn't Aces of the Deep, but Lone Wolf by GMA Games is a
decent alternative. It is fully accessible and I can play it for hours
on end. As I said coming from a mainstream background as you are you
will find most accessible games pretty behind the times. However, Lone
Wolf is pretty decent for what it does, and I could see David
Greenwood eventually upgrading that game to match something like Aces
of the Deep if he had a mind to add the extra work.

2010-09-13 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Michael,
Well, as the name implies those are a collection of user written
missions for the full version of Lone Wolf. One of the best features
of Lone Wolf is it comes with a parcer that allows you to write and
compile new missions for the game. I've written several myself over
the years.

Cheers!

in lone wolf people can write their own missions, ie, levels for the game,
so as well as the 17 you get initially you can download many more, up

[Audyssey] Lone wolf gamebooks, stil good

2010-07-21 Thread dark
Hi.

I've decided to replay the lw books from www.projectaon.orgg, sinse I'm about
to be away for a while and have time, and to say these are html versions of
books written in the 1980's, to say the mechanics are quite symple, the combat
deffinately not complex and all of the dice rolling and calculation needing to
be done by yours truely, the books are stil awsome!

the righting style is really stil there, as is making the vital choices. pluss,
though I believe this is the third time i've played through flight from the
dark, I stil! found stuff I'd never run into before, mostly because of my
slightly crazy choice of Kai diciplins.

I suppose this goes back to what Tom was saying a while ago. A good game,
or in this case gamebook, really doesn't need too much fancy sfx or systems to
remain good, even after over 20 years.

Beware the Grue!

Indeed, I haven't gone through my missions to see which ones are completely
useless, I just got all the ones the PKB Group had with their soundpack. I
was curious enough to about mission 92 to look at it's title, and correct me
if I'm wrong but I never heard of such a thing as a torpedo jammer in World

Hi,
If you are talking about the Lone Wolf Mission Parser it is not so
hard once you learn the key words and syntactical rules which are very
simple to learn. There isn't any easier way to create missions. I
suggest you create the sample mission given in the Lone Wolf mission
creation guide then you'll have a fairly good idea of how it all
works.

2010-06-19 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Ibrahim and all,
The Lone Wolf soundpack has been uploaded to the USA Games web server.
You can download it from the GMA Games directory.

Re: [Audyssey] lone wolf question

2010-06-12 Thread Hayden Presley
Hi Enes,
It says in the manual that when a destroyer detects you, it will start
firing at you. If it doesn't shoot you by the time it gets to you, it will
ram you. One minor correction...on the liamerven site, there's no way to
directly get to Raul's mirror. In order to get to it, go to
http://www.liamerven.com/games. However, as this only contains the 17
missions that come with the game, it really won't help you much.
Best Regards,
Hayden

Re: [Audyssey] lone wolf question

2010-06-11 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi,
As for the walkthroughs I don't know if there has ever been a serious
effort at writing walkthroughs for every single user created mission.
As there are close to a hundred of them now it would be a major
undertaking.
However, as for getting rammed by enemy ships that's pretty easy. If
you see a destroyer or battleship baring down on you don't stick
around and wait for it to ram you. Instead you should dive down deep
enough to clear the bottom of the enemy's hull. For destroyers about
60 feet or more is good. For battleships try about 100 feet or so in
order to clear the bottom of the hull. Oh, and after you reach a safe
depth go quiet as you can as you don't want them to find you and depth
charge you out of the water either. Lol!

Ships bump into you because either they are headed toward you, or vice
versa. If you collide with them you get wet. (grin) Move out of their way
either down, left, or right.

As for walk throughs of missions beyond mission 17, I know of none.

What is "LoanWofl extra"? Are you talking of the 80 odd extra missions?

Hi Shaun,
Oh, that mission. Those battleships are indeed something of a menice,
but not indestructable. I suppose I need to get a replacement key for
Lone Wolf so I can take that mission on again just to see if I got the
stuff to do it. It has been a year or two since I've touched Lone
Wolf. I'd say I'm long over do for a big navel engagement on the high
seas.

h as long as I can get one shot in to destroy the berg.
IfI can destroy both then fine.
If its possible to get into a situation where I can safely draw the destroyers
out first then the battleships or something that would work but what would
really rock is if I can get the destroyers and subs out first.
