Hi.
Yes, I prefer LZMA2. It shrinks my 89mb package into around 74mb.

Hi William,
I'm not sure what you are asking here, but version beta 14 which I
released yesterday has the same levels as beta 13 if that is what you
are asking. Once I am sure the new engine is stable I'll start adding
levels 3, 4, 5, etc to the game so I can get it done in the next
couple of month
I have actually noticed that myself with respect to wav files vs og, though
far less for mp3's.

Hi Thomas,
Yeah when zipped the distribution size was about 70 percent of the original
size of the files. Of course mp3 files etc can be 30 percent or even less
depending on quality, but since I am using DirectX I am also sticking with wave
files.

Hi,
Well, yes and no. If we are comparing it to the average audio game
size it would be quite big. However, as it has been pointed out before
most mainstream games are extremely huge compared to Mysteries of the
Ancients. I think Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness is something like 2 GB
fully installed.
I hadn't thought of that at all. Good points.

Hi Hayden,
Well, personally I do notice some reduction in quality. It is very
slight, but it takes some of the pitch out of the sounds, and it isn't
quite as sharp/clear as a *.wav file. I suppose the fact I am a
musician, am use to listening to tone and pitch, something like that
is more apparent

Hi,
No worries. Everyone seams to be in favor of keeping the sounds etc
uncompressed for maximum quality so that's what they are going to get.
I've already built the setup packages for Windows and Linux and am
busy trying to get the website ready for public release. I'll
naturally let everyone know

Hi Zack,
Thanks for the suggestion. Next time I think I'll definitely try using
bzip2 to compress the file. As you say gzip isn't very good.
Unfortunately, I'm about 75% through uploading the Linux MOTA beta 14
file, and I'd hate to stop it, rezip the thing, and upload again after
it has been going
Hi Charles,
Well, one purpose of using any zip tool is simply to pack multipl
files into one single archive that can be downloaded. If you are going
to use an archive like zip, bz2, gz, whatever you might as well find
the one with the best compression as well.
It is not just the people downloading

Then again, if size isn't a problem for most people, why even zip it? If
you don't, that's just one less installation step.

Hi Thomas,
I suggest bzip2, or apparently xz. gzip's compression ratios aren't
all that great.
Hope this helps,
Zack.

Hi Jim,
Smile. That's all? That's pretty small potatoes compared to the
current release of Mysteries of the Ancients. Beta 14 is almost 350 MB
fully installed and even compressed using Inno Setup it is around 170
MB. The Linux setup looks like it will be around 250 MB because tar
doesn't appear to
Hi Phil,
In my temporary spanker folder the 118 wave files, the 1 little text file, a
tiny batch file and the spanker executable file add up to 2,401,704 bytes.
When zipped they equal 1,703,313 bytes. And then making that zip file into a
self extracting zip file makes it1,765,376 bytes.

Hi Thomas,
I don't think you should compromise making the MOTA smaller.
In today's world, if a person doesn't have a high speed internet connection
then they will be missing out on plenty of things more than just large
games, such as digital books on the BARD site and podcasts.
