Hi,
Ah...I was thinking about the similarities, but I wans't sure that was
known as a "Preprocessor".

Hi Hayden,

There is in fact a preprocessor in AngelScript, the scripting engine that
BGT uses. #include is a great example of this. There is also a type of
pointer called object handle, but it is a sort of safe pointer that can
never point to invalid memory etc. It also has built in garbage collection,
something that C++ lacks.

Kind regards,

Hi,
I might also add that if you want to look into a general Purpose Programming
Language, that BGT iswritten based off of C++, and while you definitely
need to start with something simpler than said language (or at least that's
what I'd recommend) learning BGT will give you a foundation as to C++-type
syntax and coding conventions. Of course a lot of stuff was left out, such
as namespaces, the preprocessor, pointers etc, but either way...

Hayden

Hi Dark,
Thanks for the suggestion! I got scared off from programming (or
rather, learning) when the tutorial for Python I was using just seemed
daunting! I'm hoping I'll have more luck with BGT, and I think it's a
good place to start since it was designed with audio games in mind,
not to mention that it was recommended several times.

I do have a bit more time now (though I don't anticipate really making
much headway until summertime) when my master's will be complete!
I'll let you guys know what progress I make, hopefully sooner rather
than later.

Hi Tiffany,

I'm Philip Bennefall, the lead developer of BGT. I just wanted to say that
if you need any help while learning the language, feel free to contact
either myself or to ask questions on the Blastbay forum. We have a fairly
active community of people who are happy to answer questions, share coding
tips etc.

Good luck!

2010-12-16 Thread Tiffany Kim
Hi Dark,
It would have been helpful to get something more substantive, I admit.
Since I didn't get anything like "feel free to place an order", it
makes me wary, and thus, I have decided to move on to other prospecs,
if not tackling the daunting task of learning to create some games of
my own, lol.

Does anyone know of a thread where suggestions for the kinds of games
people actually would like to see are compiled? I have ideas for
making some that I played as a kid accessible, but I'm a bit of a
bookish type, so I'd end up making educational stuff and that,
frankly, would probably be research-intensive and not something that I
should tackle from the get-go. I saw the thread someone made about a
circus game, though I don't know the complexities of such an
undertaking, but if all else fails, I guess I can use that idea as a
learning exercise.

 Hello Everyone,
Well, as promised, I did write to the address that was given when I
clicked on Bavisoft's Paypal link. From the response, it sounds as
though someone is at the other end, but I was unsure about whether I
should go ahead and plunk down my money (all I found out was these
games will still work on my machine), not whether the company was
still able to process orders. See below.

To Whom This May Concern,
I recently listened to Kelly John Sapergia's reviews of Grizzly Gulch
and Chillingham, and was interested in ordering both of these games.
I tried writing to your sales address, but the E-mail bounced twice.
I found this address when I clicked on the Paypal button. I know the
games were developed back in 2004, so before I order, I would like to
know if they will run on a machine running Windows XP with service
pack III installed. Please let me know if this is possible. Thank
you.
Sincerely,
Tiffany Kim

Yeah but do you think people that never receive their orders enjoy that?
They'll have no choice but to respond to someone eventually. perhaps if they
kept us up to date there'd be no need for anyone to write to them.

Thank
you.
Sincerely,
Tiffany Kim

Tiffany,

Thanks for writing! Both games will definitely run on XP with service
pack 3. Please let me know if there are any other questions I can
answer.

Thanks,
Jeff Gibbons
