Well it's a little more complex than just "create a new website", especially 
since audiogames.net has had over ten years worth of work and the forum has 
thousands of posts.
Luckily, there are! backups available so hopefully the webmasters will be 
able to get things back up and running.

Good to see you on the list, Nick. I really need to give Park Boss another 
spin! I need to develop a better stratagy. I can hardly ever afford the bigger 
rides. It's fun to keep trying, though! Park Boss is an awesome game! I've 
really enjoyed it. Reminds me a bit of Castaways, another great 
resourse-management audio game title.

Oddly enough, for me it was the other way around with my phone.

In 2012, I had a none speaking but entirely usable nockier phone. I could 
pick it up and type numbers and answer it when people rang. I couldn't 
access the contacts list on the phone or anything like that, but I had a 
very handy  parrot voicemate personal organizer that held all that info 
which I was entirely happy with.


Phone wise, I really didn't need! an Iphone at all, it was basically for all 
the games and programs and such, the phone bit was just a bonus, albeit I'm 
glad I bought the Iphone rather than the Ipad sinse things like reading text 
messages and taking voice memos do come in handy on occasion.

Just to follow up on this a bit more, we've been putting a lot of
effort in around Ralnoth recently.  We've been gradually splitting off
the more dangerous sections and putting them in dedicated 'high level'
regions, and have been flattening the difficulty in the areas closer
to Ralnoth.  East, west, and north of Ralnoth should all be a lot more
safe for levels 29-31 than they used to be.  When you get to the edge
of the safe parts, you'll get warnings about entering level 33 or
higher areas.  Only go in those if you know what you're doing.

If you head south along the southern road, things are less consistent.
Going south the level increases more slowly, but we haven't been
working as hard to clean things up down there.

Actually, for basic document storage it doesn't require much space,
and a person can get by with free cloud storage with the various cloud
storage providers. I believe Microsoft gives those with a Windows Live
account 7 GB free. That's quite a bit for basic documents. Obviously,
if someone has mp3s, podcasts, whatever they'll need space, but let me
remind you the purpose of this thread is talking about backing up
keys. Surely a basic cloud storage account is more than plenty for
those sorts of needs.

ok thats quite low.
To be honest though I don't always backup the backup drive as often 
as I should, every 6 months or so I try to remember what I need to 
back up, but since I don't really get to much that I get that worried 
about bar a few podcasts I try to keep things backed up.
Most of my work stuff is in dropbox, everything else important is on 
an old 128mb flash stick I got ages ago which is used no where else 
bar my personal system.

I have 2 drives, a mybook for backup and a smaller elements half its 
size for work.
In addition I have several sticks ranging from 128mb one which stores 
all my secure data to a 16 gb drive.

A lot of these are used when I need to share data or upgrade systems.
And while most of these are inexpensive I have also a collection of 
animal themed drives, and I tend to choose what I want and pay a 
premium for these.
Though to be honest since I have at least32gb all up in storage 
drives I havn't really needed to collect that many for a while.

Hi Dark,

I don't blame you a bit. I have never liked the slate and stylus
myself, and as I indicated another post as soon as the notetakers like
the Braille N' Speak came onto the market my use of braille pretty
much vanished. I went from there to using laptops and other devices.
So these days I have things like product keys backed up in a couple of
different places. I have my external hard drives, plus I have a 16 GB
flash drive I generally have around for quick and easy access to
important info like product keys.

That was why I bought the surviver case for my Iphone. I've dropped it off 
my bedside locker a couple of times and I don't worry sinse apparently with 
the surviver case an Iphone has survived being chucked out of an airoplane 
:D.

external drive. I will personally vouch for Sea Gate drives, because I
have two of them and they have been far more reliable then Western
Digital in my experience.

needing to be replaced, and if you drop one it is toast. So I found

Have you considered something like dropbox or backblaze? Personally, I'd 
probably go with a safe deposit box at the bank for my flash drive before I 
used a stylus or a brailer.

While I do agree Liam needs to get his act together about key
replacements and providing better support for his games I disagree
about him giving them away for free. He put the time and work into
creating them so deserves some compensation for that, and as a fellow
developer can understand why he would be reluctant to just give them
away. That said, I don't really understand why he isn't providing
better support for them.

Yes, I know he does have a real daytime job which would drastically
effect how much free time he has to devoting to supporting his
products. Nobody can fault him for that, but I do think he could
probably manage his free time better. I realize it is easy for me to
say this, but I would think he could devote at least a little time to
L-Works support rather than doing something else with his free time be
it watching TV,playing games, or whatever it is he does in his free
time. It makes me question weather he really cares or not. Perhaps,
though, I am being too harsh. I just don't know enough about why he
isn't offering better support to accurately make a fair judgement
about the situation.

Still, even if he himself doesn't have free time he should be able to
find a trusted friend, relative, or appoint a fellow game developer to
redistribute product keys and help manage the business end of things
of L-Works rather than let things hang. Again, easy for me to say, but
it would potentially be an option to offer his customers something
rather than seemingly ignoring them.

Last of all he could always write or higher someone to write some
automated system which would ideally be the best way to handle
support. The automated system would be available 24/7
and only require minimal oversight. That way he would be free to do
whatever he needed to do while having an automated system overseeing
the business end of the business.

The point being here is I know Liam could probably do something, and
for that reason I don't believe just giving his games away for free is
the right answer. However, he does need to do something as it feels
like a lot of people have been left in the lurch by his lack of
attention to L-Works the last few years.

Hi Topm.

I was only ever forced to use a stylus once by my evil special school and 
have never owned one, nor would I actually ever want to sinse hell I don't 
even braille anymore so why would I want to go further back?


To be honest I never liked writing quick notes or important info in braille 
sinse I always found having loads of braille paper or labels or whatever a 
pest to store and rather difficult to find and read through quickly, one 
reason wy I pretty much stopped using braille entirely when i was 13 and 
switched to a laptop.


I always used to make quick voice notes on my parrot, voicemate, now I use 
my Iphone. For important stuff like backing keys up I've always just used an 
external harddrive, keeping copies on multiple machines  and similar and 
don't really see the problem with doing that provided you can get the 
technology sorted out.

Interesting Tom.
As I said, I now use the Sea gate drive as my main backup, the passport 
drive was for a friend of mine who travels round the world and has a rather 
weerd habbit of digitizing films on dvd rather than just taking the disks so

Hi Shaun,

That sounds to me like the product key system for Judgement Day is
screwed up. If it were a hardware based key it would not care how many
times you reinstalled the OS, because it gets the ID of the hardware
in the system. therefore Liam must be using the user account for
verification which is not only week it causes serious problems if the
new user account on the new system isn't exactly the same as on the
old one.

Hi Shaun,

Good grief! You sound like an absolute klutz. While I have broken a
couple of Braille N' speaks in my time mostly because I was being
careless I can't say I smashed them into things, fell down the stairs
with one, or had any issues with the keys. For the most part I did my
best to take care of the notetakers I had, because they were expensive
and I had to absolutely keep mine in working order.

However, I think we are drifting way off topic. So ask that we steer
things back to the topic at hand or close it.

Hi Shaun,

Unfortunately, you are right. Most people don't keep adequate backups
of their stuff. Not even me. What a lot of people fail to realize is
they often times need to keep backups of their backups just in case
their primary backup system gets damaged or destroyed. Its happened to
me, and I am sure has happened to plenty of others as well.

Well I did get a couple but really never got into those that much.
I had a perkins and a older lavinder braille unit to start off with.
Sadly I was in the age before electronic braille came mainstream I 
was always lugging it round.
I did use a braille to standard print unit for a time and did begin 
to start with electronic braille but for whatever reason it never 
happened right.
After I graduated to a querty board except for math there seemed 
little reason to  read braille let alone write it, the books were to 
heavy, and I always dropped the unit, fell down the stairs with it or 
smashed it into or hit it with things not to mention the frucking 
keys kept breaking and had to be tied together with paperclips.
If I restarted school today I'd have an electronic braille note or 
simular and I think they are pushing macs in a big way now.

While I do agree Liam needs to get his act together about key

of L-Works rather than let things hang. Again, easy for me to say, but
it would potentially be an option to offer his customers something
rather than seemingly ignoring them.

Last of all he could always write or higher someone to write some
automated system which would ideally be the best way to handle
support. The automated system would be available 24/7
and only require minimal oversight. That way he would be free to do
whatever he needed to do while having an automated system overseeing
the business end of the business.

The point being here is I know Liam could probably do something, and
for that reason I don't believe just giving his games away for free is
the right answer. However, he does need to do something as it feels
like a lot of people have been left in the lurch by his lack of
attention to L-Works the last few years.

Laury, I have used western digital for years and bar one of my 
elements drives dieing on me after less than a year of use, both my 
my book and elements have gone ok.
One thing to note that some of the drives like the my book are easy 
to knock over I have done this a few times, a cousin kicked his by 
mistake and it fell off his desk and its now just a brick.

new keys. We are fortunate that most audio game developers aren't
quite that strict about key replacement policies and perhaps that is
why so many blind customers are extremely lax about their keys, and
just assume if something happens they deserve a free key replacement
even though in the real world that kind of service would be rare.

No arguing with that. A slate and stylus is an inexpensive way to
write down keys on a braille sheet of paper. It might be slow and
tedious, but it is affordable and doesn't require sighted help.

I haven't had a problem with Amazon either. I have also gotten stuff
from New Egg and a few other online stores as well. However, Lori
seems a bit hesitant about buying online so she may have to look
locally for something she wants.

Hi Lori,

What you call a memory stick are commonly called flash drives here in
the US. Basically, it is just a long skinny plastic device with a cap
on it you can take of and slide it into your USB port. To be honest I
haven't paid too much attention to brands and just buy them based on
price and the amount of memory available on them.

There is another option available you might want to think about. You
can buy a USB card reader which costs about $15, and you can put any
size flash card in it which is nice. Of course you have to be careful
with flash cards, but you can have several of them for a decent price
and they are small enough to store in a desk drawer or in a container
on your computer desk.

Either way backup devices aren't that expensive. I don't know much
about the UK to tell you where to get them, but I'm sure there has to
be somewhere to get them for a fair price without going to Amazon, New
Egg,  or another online vender.

They sure are old technology, but they only cost $20 or so compared to 
thousands.  No battery issues and very portable.  Having said that, I don't 
use them, either, but I do have one, and it is an affordable option for 
producing brailled game key info.

You definitely show your age when you mention slate and stylus. In my
experience most younger blind people don't even know how to use one
let alone use it. With the growth of technology I only see braille
solutions like a slate and stylus becoming even less relevant to blind
users.

For example, in the 90's and early 2000's something like the slate and
stylus became obsolete when the VI market was flooded with note takers
like the Braille N' Speak, Type N' Speak, Braille Light, Braille Plus,
Pac Mate, etc. Now days a blind person is more likely to grab their
iPhone or iPad to jot down a quick note than anything else. There is
definitely a good reason for that.

When I first started losing my vision my VI teacher tried to teach me
how to use a slate and stylus along with using a brailler. Quite
frankly I never got the hang of the slate and stylus and even though I
could use it I found it painfully slow and tedious. So by the time I
went to junior high I got my parents to buy me a Braille N' Speak and
I put my slate and stylus in a drawer and pretty much forgot about it.
Most of my peers did the same.

Yeah, using a slate and stylist is a total pain. I actually have one,
but have never been good at it so haven't used it much. People have
tried to get me to get better at it, but I just never have found a

the same PC backing up the old keys will work provided it is the same
PC. If reinstalling on the same PC and the keys don't work then the
key is not hardware based and uses something else to unlock the
product.

Just thought I would point out the name of the brand is "Sea Gate" not
"See Gate" in case anyone wants to go looking for that brand of
external drive. I will personally vouch for Sea Gate drives, because I
have two of them and they have been far more reliable then Western
Digital in my experience.

As for Passport drives I have owned a couple of those, and found them
to be very problematic. They are basically a laptop drive in a plastic
housing. I've had troubles with the USB chords going bad on them and
needing to be replaced, and if you drop one it is toast. So I found
flash drives more reliable for basic backups.

Hi Lori,

Yes. A 404 error means that the requested page is missing or can't be
found. So simply put the link to the order page is broken because the
requested page is unavailable for some reason.

As far as external drives goes I have had a lot of success with Sea
Gate drives. I have never tried Sony's drives, and don't have en
experience with them to form an opinion about them. All I do know is
that generally speaking buying an external drive shouldn't cause any
accessibility issues given that they should just show up in Windows
Explorer or File Explorer as just any other drive.

As far as your issue with sighted people not understanding
accessibility I get that a lot, too.  Fortunately, I don't have to
deal with them much since I generally know what I am doing, and don't
have to try and explain it to sighted people since I just do it
myself. It sounds like you could use a general VI users list where you
can ask technical questions and get more accessible help than you are
getting at home.

Yeah, using a slate and stylist is a total pain. I actually have one,
but have never been good at it so haven't used it much. People have
tried to get me to get better at it, but I just never have found a
real need to sit down and practice with it.

Oh, I see. I haven't actually gotten any of Liam's commercial games so
wasn't sure if his keys are hardware based or not. So my comments were
more about general key systems rather than any specific company's.

Hi Lori,

What you call a memory stick are commonly called flash drives here in
the US. Basically, it is just a long skinny plastic device with a cap
on it you can take of and slide it into your USB port. To be honest I
haven't paid too much attention to brands and just buy them based on
price and the amount of memory available on them.

There is another option available you might want to think about. You
can buy a USB card reader which costs about $15, and you can put any
size flash card in it which is nice. Of course you have to be careful
with flash cards, but you can have several of them for a decent price
and they are small enough to store in a desk drawer or in a container
on your computer desk.

Either way backup devices aren't that expensive. I don't know much
about the UK to tell you where to get them, but I'm sure there has to
be somewhere to get them for a fair price without going to Amazon, New
Egg,  or another online vender.

Hi Lori,
Is it just Ebay you don't trust, or is it ordering things online in general?
Even if you wouldn't want to use a site like Amazon, you could still
have a look around on there at flash drives. Compare the descriptions,
and see which one sounds the best to you. Then you could probably go
to a local computer store or something like Best Buy to compare
prices.
I'm from the US, so I honestly don't know what the equivalent for
places like Best buy or Radio Shack is over there, so sorry if that
advice isn't helpful. I'd still be willing to bet that flash drives
are as easily available there as they are here, though. And it really
is true that the prices have dropped quite a bit over the past few
years. Even smaller-capacity external hard drives aren't as expensive
as they used to be.
Either way, that won't help much with replacing your keys for Super
Liam and Judgment Day, unfortunately, since those are hardware-based.
But I agree that it's good to keep backups of all your keys and
important data, so it can't hurt to have a cheap flash drive or two
laying around.

I've never written like that before, only ever used brail, but if they were
written down by a sighted person, at least there would still be a record of

Hi Thomas, it was a soney drive, my dad got it for me on the recomendation 
of his friend who has a professional computer business.  Dad isn't very 
tech-minded, and the friend, while good with computers, doesn't seem to 
understand the concept of blind accessibility, hense he put avast on my 
computer, then wonders why it's suddenly full of viruses lol.  I knew it 
wasn't accessible, but trying to spell it out to someone who is sighted and 
think they know it all is like pulling teeth in this case.  "oh it'll be 
fine, and if not, ask for sighted help" grrr!


Anyway, I decided on copying my product ids for my l-works games and sending 
them to Liam to see if that made life any easier for him, the id for Super 
Liam is now on my clipboard, but on being taken to the order page, i get a 
404 file not found message, which I think means the link is somehow broken. 
Do you know what 404 means?


I'll try anyway to post the id and see if I can awaken Liam from his 
slumbers with some of my demonic singing!  :)

I don't know what  sort of drive you used there, but I can say i've used a
backup external drive for years.

At the moment I have a see gate one. This is a rectangular device. It just
has the one usb and a power lead, (I don't know why you would need two usb's
or a stand). When I bought it I had to slot the part with the connectors for
the usb and power lead onto the main box, but this wasn't a problem and now
it is done I can pretty much forget about it. What I do is stick it in a box
under my bed, then pull it out every three weeks or so to do a full backup
of everything, all my keys, documents, music, audiobooks etc, (not to
mention the setup files for programs).

As an alternative You can now buy what are called passport drives. These are
indeed as you say like a very fat memory stick, they are very small
andportable, but  can hold ridiculously large amounts (I bought one recently
for my friend which had a 1 tb capacity).

The difference however is that for a passport drive with no power lead you
will be paying twice the price as you would for a standard external drive
that needs plugging in. For example for 100 quid I could buy a 5 tb external
drive with a plug, or a 2 Tb passport drive without.

You also don't have to use E bay either, indeed I probably wouldn't get
something like that from E bay myself sinse as you said your not sure of
what your getting.

Maplins are a reasonably good national chain and unlike pc world won't try
to foist things on you, also the one near my parents are good for general
advice as well.

   Hi Lori.

I don't know what  sort of drive you used there, but I can say i've used a 
backup external drive for years.


At the moment I have a see gate one. This is a rectangular device. It just 
has the one usb and a power lead, (I don't know why you would need two usb's 
or a stand). When I bought it I had to slot the part with the connectors for 
the usb and power lead onto the main box, but this wasn't a problem and now 
it is done I can pretty much forget about it. What I do is stick it in a box 
under my bed, then pull it out every three weeks or so to do a full backup 
of everything, all my keys, documents, music, audiobooks etc, (not to 
mention the setup files for programs).


As an alternative You can now buy what are called passport drives. These are 
indeed as you say like a very fat memory stick, they are very small 
andportable, but  can hold ridiculously large amounts (I bought one recently 
for my friend which had a 1 tb capacity).


The difference however is that for a passport drive with no power lead you 
will be paying twice the price as you would for a standard external drive 
that needs plugging in. For example for 100 quid I could buy a 5 tb external 
drive with a plug, or a 2 Tb passport drive without.


You also don't have to use E bay either, indeed I probably wouldn't get 
something like that from E bay myself sinse as you said your not sure of 
what your getting.


Maplins are a reasonably good national chain and unlike pc world won't try 
to foist things on you, also the one near my parents are good for general 
advice as well.

While I do agree Liam needs to get his act together about key

about him giving them away for free. He put the time and work into

developer can understand why he would be reluctant to just give them

Yes, I know he does have a real daytime job which would drastically
effect how much free time he has to devoting to supporting his
products. Nobody can fault him for that, but I do think he could
probably manage his free time better. I realize it is easy for me to
say this, but I would think he could devote at least a little time to
L-Works support rather than doing something else with his free time be
it watching TV,playing games, or whatever it is he does in his free
time. It makes me question weather he really cares or not. Perhaps,
though, I am being too harsh. I just don't know enough about why he
isn't offering better support to accurately make a fair judgement
about the situation.

Still, even if he himself doesn't have free time he should be able to
find a trusted friend, relative, or appoint a fellow game developer to
redistribute product keys and help manage the business end of things
of L-Works rather than let things hang. Again, easy for me to say, but
it would potentially be an option to offer his customers something
rather than seemingly ignoring them.

Last of all he could always write or higher someone to write some
automated system which would ideally be the best way to handle
support. The automated system would be available 24/7
and only require minimal oversight. That way he would be free to do
whatever he needed to do while having an automated system overseeing
the business end of the business.

The point being here is I know Liam could probably do something, and
for that reason I don't believe just giving his games away for free is
the right answer. However, he does need to do something as it feels
like a lot of people have been left in the lurch by his lack of
attention to L-Works the last few years.

Anyway, I personally don't know his Facebook ID, assuming he has one,
but it isn't hard to check. Moreover I know Liam is on Twitter and it
shouldn't be difficult to find his Twitter feed. I don't have the time

Hi Lori,

While I do agree Liam needs to get his act together about key
replacements and providing better support for his games I disagree
about him giving them away for free. He put the time and work into
creating them so deserves some compensation for that, and as a fellow
developer can understand why he would be reluctant to just give them
away. That said, I don't really understand why he isn't providing
better support for them.

Yes, I know he does have a real daytime job which would drastically
effect how much free time he has to devoting to supporting his
products. Nobody can fault him for that, but I do think he could
probably manage his free time better. I realize it is easy for me to
say this, but I would think he could devote at least a little time to
L-Works support rather than doing something else with his free time be
it watching TV,playing games, or whatever it is he does in his free
time. It makes me question weather he really cares or not. Perhaps,
though, I am being too harsh. I just don't know enough about why he
isn't offering better support to accurately make a fair judgement
about the situation.

Still, even if he himself doesn't have free time he should be able to
find a trusted friend, relative, or appoint a fellow game developer to
redistribute product keys and help manage the business end of things
of L-Works rather than let things hang. Again, easy for me to say, but
it would potentially be an option to offer his customers something
rather than seemingly ignoring them.

Last of all he could always write or higher someone to write some
automated system which would ideally be the best way to handle
support. The automated system would be available 24/7
and only require minimal oversight. That way he would be free to do
whatever he needed to do while having an automated system overseeing
the business end of the business.

The point being here is I know Liam could probably do something, and
for that reason I don't believe just giving his games away for free is
the right answer. However, he does need to do something as it feels
like a lot of people have been left in the lurch by his lack of
attention to L-Works the last few years.

Well if he ever wanted someone to handle all his orders and keys I'd 
probably take that on as well as other part time projects I am doing.

ofcause it would have to be a team of people incase one got sick but who knows.
personally I would stop short of pirating his games but not by much.
If he is still gone next year or even next month then all bets are  off.
I knew him as a completely random guy everything was random but even 
for him this really is over his randomness just a bit its been a 
concern for a while the only reason I don't jump on him is that while 
I still do buy games I seem to have less and less time to really get 
down and have a good bash at the controls.
Usually its what I am testing, mostly I don't have time but when I do 
have a bit I do go at it.

I agree to all this, I have tried time and time again to get codes 
but his email though I get no erros back don't give me a resonce.
I have seen some cracks for his games and to be honest, i have 
thought about pirating his stuff, I know him so I won't but his being 
gone for so long really does not help him any.
I have had him streaming to me for some time so I  have some good 
friendships with him at least for a few years while on msn, and also 
with a few other gings in past years, but good will can only go so 
far and I am starting to have doubts.

Its like he has vanished off the earth with no trace.
Its good I got time to play his stuff when he was still round because 
I spent a good 60 bucks on sl and jd and to be honest who knows.
Lorry, its strange your external hard drive got corrupted because of 
a virus and a virus destroyed your hard drive needing it to get 
replaced, maybe a reformat but never replacement and I have never had 
an external get corrupted like that, windows from time to time says 
the drive needs reformatting or  is corrupted but its not, its just 
windows being stupid I have had a drive die on me well 2 of them 
physically explode and die but I think someone is having a laugh at 
your expence.

paid good money for high quality games, and if he can't be bothered helping

Unfortunately, Liam hasn't been too communicative over the last couple
of years so I personally have no idea what he is up to. That said, I
agree he really does need to employ some sort of automated payment and
key replacement system as a lot of people are growing tired of not
receiving key replacements, questions about his lack of response to
e-mails, etc. If he is unable to respond to e-mails and come up with
timely key replacements then he needs to find some sort of automated
system to do it for him.

Hi, it is totally wrong.  I got Super Egghunt Pluss for Christmas last year, 
and had all my keys saved to my portible hard drive as well as my c drive. 
The c drive got infected with a really bad virus, meaning I had to get it 
replaced, and when i inserted the back-up drive to put my keys back into the 
computer, I was told the drive was corrupted, so ended up losing everything 
anyway.


What he should consider is a key retrievel system, with so many keys allowed 
per year.

Yeah, from everything I've heard, this isn't unusual. I personally
feel that it isn't right to make people wait for months for keys that
they purchased.
A similar thing happened to one of my friends, he had to wait for
several months to get his keys. Unfortunately, not long after that,
his computer got stolen while he was on vacation. So now he's going

If someone really doesn't have time to manually replace keys, an

structure of the licensing system wasn't changed, which would require

And as for the 2 games I legally own superliam 
and judgement day I have given up registering them on my systems.

These three guys Munawar philip and liam are very good producer of

it's a first person shooter game in which you must go through a research 
base, fighting off mutant humans, cyborgs and other nasties in an effort to 
shut down an experiment gone wrong.


it's distinctly creepy in atmosphere and very much a landmark in audio 
games, and something I'd highly recommend, although i personally don't like 
the acronym sod, as in Britain "sod" is a miner sware word.

Hi Richard.

Glad to here Extant is still potentially on the table, i always thought it 
was a nice and interesting idea for audio navigation what with the circular 
areas etc.


Okay, here are my answers:

1: What did I like about extant?

Ease of navigation plus very good ambience, you never had problems getting 
rom A to B working around walls etc, and the appearance of sounds and 
creatures was highly atmospheric, especially with precision in the sterrio 
field. I also appreciated how the spherical aspect of the game gave it a 
slightly synister, surreal feeling with different places and objects popping 
over the horizon, indeed if the game were expanded I could imagine this 
being part of the plot,  eg, scientists messing around with creating 
black holes make the dimentions of reality go floopy and also cause lots of 
nasty monsters to appear.


I also really liked the respawning aspect of the game, and could see how if 
this was expanded with more monster types, slightly different nested maps 
you could create a degree of random generation, or at least rpg repeatable 
areas.


2: What did you miss or didn't like?

The ease of navigation was in some sense a double edged sword, since it 
meant that while it was extremely easy to get to different parts of the game 
in the demo and find different objects, it also took away some degree of 
suspense from exploring new areas. This was particularly true in the 
buildings with their just one monster and a pack.


Equally, combat while extremely fluid and easy was rather simple with the 
one weapon and dodging, though I could see how it could be expanded given 
different weapon ranges, rates of attack, maybe some rpg like stats and 
extra effects, (the poison was a good idea though a bit too universal).


3: What I'd like to see.

Obviously more story, types of monsters, complex combat, weapons etc, but 
also some complexity in both combat and the environment. For example, making 
the nested areas more complex, after all there is a potential to have very 
large maps simply by alternatives in the nested areas, for instance the 
crypt in the graveyard in the church in the city in the north forest. 
Indeed, there is the potential for a nested world map system in Extant 
rather more than in most games. This would also be a great chance to make 
the games' progression less liniar by having various locations and side 
quests to explore irrispective of where the player needs to go, (and we do! 
need less liniar games).


4: What platforms.

Well I've personally got a windows xp machine and an Iphone, so would go for 
those platforms.


5: How much would you be willing to pay?

Well it depends upon game size and complexity really. I'd be willing to go 
as high as 40 or maybe even 50 usd, but it would need to be a very major 
game with many hours of gameplay, and involve more than just cranking up 
higher scores, (entombed was quite justified in the 40 usd price tag for 
this reason). Generally speaking the simpler the game, the less I'd be 
willing to pay for it.


If for instance you created a basic "kill as many monsters as you can in a 
spherical sterrio field" type of game, I'd likely be willing to only go 10 
usd max, and even then the game would need to be extremely good.




Of course if you were looking for indigogo or similar funding, well the 
decision might be a little different since there obviously I'd be to an 
extent funding created content so might want to hazard a little extra, 
particularly since I could be certain in your case that you would! deliver 
the game as promised and had the skills to do so, (especially as someone who 
works with some of your programming on a literally dayly basis over on 
audiogames.net). Though of course time is also a factor, since I'm not made 
of money and even if I did! want to contribute extra I'd likely need to do 
it over a couple of months, not all in one go, (I've seen a couple of 
funding projects fail for this reason, simply not realizing that people have 
fixed monthly income and thus are limited in what they can give even if they 
do wish to hazard more).

Thanks for asking this question. Sander and I have been busy with a lot of 
things with our company Creative Heroes (http://creativehero.es) and 
Extant was shelved because of other projects and priorities (unfortunately 
we do not have all the freedoms we had as students anymore (smile)).
