To, perhaps, clarify earlier posts, I do run Gimp in both Ubuntu 8.10 and

In order to get a version of UFRaw for Ubuntu more up-to-date than the
one in the repositories (for Hardy) I got the .deb in

This way I can denoise pictures using UFRaw in ubuntu.
Hope it helps

Try using G'MIC (former GREYCStoration) of wavelet denoise filters for
GIMP. Also UFRaw has built-in wavelet noise reduction. Hope it helps.

Hi,
I am trying to optimize a design for optimal faxability without going all the
way to b/w, since this document will only occacionally be faxed.
I was told with PS one can work with Threshold adjustment layer to get a
good impression.
How would I go about to get a similar result with Gimp?
I use Windows Vista home premium 64-bit and have Gimp 2.6.6 and every once in
a while, during using gimp, my computer says an error and that windows is
causing Gimp to close. If i didn't save it I lose everything. Gimp is great
except for this major problem. Any suggestions? Thank you,

If the image is in Indexed mode, you will not get antialiasing.
Indexed mode is very limited. You must first convert to RGB mode.
