[Gimp-user] Gutenprint

2011-01-03 Thread measekite
I have created a bunch of printers supported by their drivers. I intend to
replace my printers with larger format print beds.

I would like to remove the printers from Gutenprint that I no longer intend on
using but I cannot find a delete or remove button to do the job. I also have
not found a configuration file in the Linux Ubuntu 10.10 file system where I
can edit the file.

Does anybody know how to do this?

I am considering an HP Photosmart B8550 13x19 printer for use with Gutenprint
inside The Gimp. If anybody is using this printer I would appreciate know your
experience including print quality and paper feed using HP ink; good or bad.

leonard-

a couple of points: first, i don't know how you're cleaning the old 1280. you
can get them for nothing from people who have let them dry and clog. i use two
methods, both easy. method 1, very very carefully (not bumping into any
sensitive machinery) use a small hypodermic to apply a small amount of windex
to the foam pad that the ink jets rest on when they are all the way to the
right. let them sit over night and run a nozzle test. if they fail the test,
method 2, park the ink tanks in the ink changing position. use a small
hypodermic syringe (without a needle) to pump a little distilled h20 thru the
jets. to do this, remove both ink tanks. look down and you will see the two
little nipples above the jets that the ink tanks plug into. a standard
disposable syringe will just fit over the nipples. just a few ml. are all you
need. paper towels under the printer are a good idea. replace the tanks with
new ones if you can. run a nozzle test. i have seen cleaning solutions and
kits for sale but i think the magic cleaning solution is just h20. i have used
this technique to resurrect several epson dye-based printers. regarding the
epson 3800, you might want to look at one of the other epson pro series
printers there is a 17" model that uses k3 inks that may have drivers
available. the 3800 is limited in paper handling options, lacking rear and
front load paper paths (i believe.)

i have the epson r2400 that i have been using for some time with xp. i
recently have been trying to make it work with ubuntu 8.10 here is the
printer/driver data: Epson Stylus Photo R2400 - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.0-rc1.
the problem i have with it is that it won't print wider than 8.5" or longer
than 11".it just crops the image and prints it in one corner of a large format
paper. i believe that it is a problem with the driver, perhaps a #define'd
constant when there should be a variable in one of the routines. i'm hoping to
find a solution to the problem but until then i'm stuck with mrbill. i print
almost entirely large format, up to 13x26 inches.

It looks like a useeful tool, but the list of supported printers seems
to be the similar to that for gutenprint. For example, its also lists
the 1800 and 2100 but not the 1900 and 2880. It does list the the Pro
4800. but not the Pro 3800, so it is possible the latter works if you
specify the former.

I have started doing color management, and I can do that with photoprint
which uses gutenprint, so that may also be a limitation.

My printer is only a modest Epson model but I must confess that I was
always having problems. So, I decided that I would spend some money and
buy some software called Turboprint and I have never regretted the
expenditure. I believe there is a free download available to try.

I am using gimp 2.6.4 under Fedora 9. I also have gutenprint 5.0.2.

I have been using an Epson 1280. but I would like to be able to replace
it if it fails. (I just had a very hard time cleaning the printheads.)

gutenprint tells me is supports the Epson Stylus Photo R1800 and R2400,
but neither of these seems to be available. Can I assume the Epson
Stylus Photo R1900 is just an updated version of the R1800. How about
the Epson Stylus Photo 2880 and the R2400?

Is there some way under gimp/Linux to print using the Epson 3800?

And I got a couple of helpful replys - thank you very much. One
suggested that I go over to the gimp-print list and ask there. Here is
the response I got from Robert Krawitz, one of the developers:

>You need to set the Print Quality and Image Type settings to Manual

I haven't got it perfect yet, but this seems like the best solution,
since I don't have to change the image on the disk to be "wrong" to get
a print. I am hping one group of settings will work for all, or most
images. Anyway, I thought I would share the response over here.

Thanks for the help.

very close to the real image.

Layers>Colors>Color balance (first entry)

Experiment upping the yellow in some or all three areas (dark, medium and light)
a couple of notches.

I had a comparable problem with the Epson R300 (far too blue) and it turned out
that increasing magenta by 10 points in dark and medium solved the problem.

Rumor had it that there was work being done on the new Epson drivers, but so far
I haven't seen results from that.

[Gimp-user] gutenprint

2005-12-17 Thread Alex Feldman
I had some trouble installing gutenprint at first, but after removing
everything, it went in fine.

But I haven't been able to adjust the colors on my output - and what's
more, what is printer is quite a bit darker, particularly with the
yellow, than the real image. What shows up in gimp on the screen is
very close to the real image.

Most of the pictures I take are outdoors, and without much yellow, it
isn't much of a problem. But for indoor pictures it is really
noticeable - a red oak chest of draweres came out looking dark brown.
The onscreen picture is fine, so I don't think it is a problem with gimp
or the camera, or my choice of exposure compensation.

I have tried to adjust the sliders I get in the print dialogue in gimp,
but it doesn't change anything - I have reduced the saturation to .75
and increased the brightness to 1.2, and there was no effect.
Incidentally, the adjustments you can make for the output are just three
sliders, brightness, contrast, and saturation. Nothing else. It is
different from what is in the manual.

I am running FC3, with Gimp 2.2.8, Gutenprint 5.0.0-rc1, and an Epson
Stylus Photo R1800 printer. I have updated FC3 extensively, so it may
be closer to FC4 now.

Thanks very much for any suggestions.

Robert L Krawitz is presently working on the color for the R300 in
[Gimp-print-devel]. Wait a couple of days and try the latest cvs of
gutenprint.

[Gimp-user] gutenprint downgrade

2005-10-29 Thread Jos van Kan

Hi,

Someone recommended me to install gutenprint 5.0.0 since that would have way
more funcionality than the old gimpprint. I have an Epson Stylus Photo R300. The
good news is, that it does offer way more functionality (it can print on CD's
for instance) but the bad news is that I think the color rendering of the old
driver is far superior. The gutemprint driver puts a blue hue over all pictures
that is almost impossible to remove without disturbing the colorbalance as a whole.
So the big question is: how do I downgrade to good old gimpprint without
breaking the system. I suppose I cannot just throw away the gutenprint stuff. :-)

Best regards,
