Anders, Commit is done and i've posted the commit message in the comments of each module. Just for your information, I think D-L still doesn't support commiting help files via web interface, so Git access is required. Maybe someone from your language team can request Git access to the Coordinators (they have permission to provide Git acess to team coordinators and commiters). I'm not how it is working currently. The '*-set' properties are used to notify whether or not the corresponding property is set, and should be honoured, so if 'snap-edge' is the corresponding property, the 'snap-edge-set' property means whether the 'snap-edge' property is set or not. The message catalog (PO) of GTK+ po-properties, which can be found in [1] contain strings like Snap edge set, Cell background set, Editability set. I understand set is used as similiar define. However I'd like to confirm if it is something like e.g. Snap edge definided, which means Snap edge was enabled. Does someone know if my logic is correct? Matej, As a workaround you can eliminate the line break that is normally applied by the editor of PO. You can do this with some methods. Saying two: 1) Moving manually (e.g. using gedit) the lines broken to a single-line format. from: msgstr hello world to: msgstr hello world 2) or running msgcat --no-wrap infile.po -o outfile.po, which will remove line breaks of the whole file. As a downside, it makes D-L's diff weird, as you'd be comparing a file with line breaks against a file withOUT them. Ekaterina, Rather than rely on the carefulness of the translators (which will possibly fail at some point and a few times), isn't it possible to implement some kind of verification before pushing from the module to the website? My idea would be something like: schedule the pushes to website and before doing so, run the XML validation, and if it fails, do not push to website - and notify (the maintainer?). -- i'm not a developer, just throwing ideas. Damned Lies received incorrect preface.po (GIMP)
Hi there. The Preface from GIMP User Manual was completely translated by pt_BR team, as can be seen in the GIT repository [1]. However, D-L shows a different content of the Preface [2]. It seems that the preface.po available in D-L was generated from tutorial.po (notice the header name I made myself) with preface's POT applied. I have no clue how this happened, as there is not history of this in the commit log of preface.po. Can someone help on this issue? I believe it is interesting to commit to 'gnome-3-10' git branch (always with cherry-pick to 'master') in the situations of GNOME 3.10 is not release yet or minor releases (e.g. 3.10.1) are to be released. As you mentioned, some modules doesn't have a 'gnome-3-10' git branch. I'm not sure why, but, for you as a translator/coordinator, it means that you have to commit to 'master' only. There are other exceptions that have different names of git branch. Gtk+, for example, have git branch names like 'gtk-3-8'. Releated to your question, yes. You should translate branches available in Damned Lies. If the git logs are checked, it will be found that I am the only active member in the Assamese team who has been sincerely doing UI translations for the past two years. After Gnome-3-8 was released with 86% UI translation status for Assamese, I didn't immediately start working on Gnome-3-10 as it's status was also more than 80% (something like 85% if I correctly remember). I just kept the master branches updated from time to time and later on I kept it on hold for some time. Now, since Gnome-3-10 release date is approaching, I thought of updating the important packages. Although even if I don't do so, it will still get released in Assamese as the status was 80% when I started updating and presently it is 81%. Now, my question is why does Damned Lies shows an active member as inactive considering a very short inactivity time? What will a new translator who is keen on joining the Assamese translation team think when he visits the team page? Will not he think that there hasn't been any activity in the Assamese translation for Gnome since time immemorial? :-) Suddenly his love for his mother tongue will come into life and he will think about reviving a already active team (I don't know about others, at least I am doing my part, this is open source, we cannot force someone to work! :-) ) If some old mail threads are checked it will be found that a similar incident happened to the Marathi translation team. The team coordinator for Marathi had to list down the package names to which he had recently made commits and provide some other links to prove the new guy that he his active and that the new guy was misleaded. A bug was also filed in this context for Kannada translation team: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/** show_bug.cgi?id=701190 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=701190 So, what I feel is that Damned Lies should not show an active member as inactive so quickly. Moreover, when clicked on the member's name in the translation team page, the member's contributions should also be shown in whatever convenient manner possible instead of just showing the Team Membership. I am not saying that it should show the member's entire git log! :-) but at least it can show the releases to which the member has contributed. This will avoid a newbie from getting misleaded and get in touch with the right person to start contributing. When talkiing about 'Gtk+-UI' or 'Gtk+-properties' modules, I always prefer to run 'intltool-update langcode' to avoid being fooled by any out-of-date translation status of Damned Lies. See my example, for Brazilian Portuguese file (some outputs were removed): $ git clone git://git.gnome.org/gtk+ $ cd gtk+/po $ git checkout gtk-3-8 $ git up $ intltool-update pt_BR .. done. 955 translated messages. In my case, file is all translated and good to go. If yours is not, then translate and submit it. In this last situation, coordinators/commiters must remember to cherry-pick any change in gtk-3-8 to master. p.s.: please notice the branch 'gtk.3.8', not the master. p.s.: The strings listed in the original post were already translated to me, so it could be a delayed message. Yeah, really weird. Basically the latter (Gtk+-UI) points to an out-of-date PO file (see its POT-Creation-Date header), even though D.L. says that both of them were updated recently. Why is that? We talked about this problem with the web team during GUADEC, and they know of it, just didn't had time/incentive to solve it. In theory, there is a few things to be done for the export/import process to work (currently neither does, the file you translated is obsolete), and they promised to take a look at it. For what is worth, Xfce uses Transifex to manage translations. it used to be an instance installed in Xfce servers for long time, but recently it migrated to the hosted version (in transifex.com). Two issues were identified and might never be solved: translators' comments are removed by the Tx [1] and old/obsolete messages marked by gettext are also removed [2]. In spite of that, its Web Editor is indeed good. My opinion, if it counts, I prefer Damned Lies the way it is today. Hi there, When I submit a PO file, damned lies returns server error 500 and don't receive the file.
