Dear Roland Mervyn,
In this connection I also want to say that strong
bonds between the Parsi and Goan also existed in the
Gulf. Whether these were carried on from those that
existed in Bombay, or whether the Parsi felt a natural
inclination to bond with another diasporic figure, I
do not know.

Dear Frederick,
You may be surprised how many silent women readers
there are on the net that don't feel inclined to post.
One issue maybe the testosterone-fueled subject range
may not hold interest for women. To that end I am
trying to write on some subjects that may interest
women and hopefully

Now that this discussion on Hitler is into a more intellectual stage, I would
like to add my two cents.
From my first-hand conversations with German-Americans who lived in Germany
during the war, one needs to separate the Third Reich rule in the first half
from the second half of the regime.

And so many other words which are etymologically Portuguese but are now
completely and firmly rooted in amchi bhas, used by all irrespective of
social stratum or religion, and niched - as Fr. Loiola Pereira very well
puts it - in respectable Konkani lexicons. Their number is legions, I should
say.
Reading the E-Seniors notebook, I am struck by how
strong the literary tradition is, in Goa. The
beautiful narratives transport us to a time most of us
are unaware of and would be lost forever but for the
eloquent words of these men and women.
It is amazing how a small state in India managed to

I was really surprised to find Mario's response (strongly agreed to by

Yes, of course. Ever language Konkani came in contact with would have
obviously influenced it. So there's no point in shrugging off the
Portuguese influence (or calling it alien).

Im afraid you have got it a bit wrong. The goans in the Armed Forces
did not need any parsi to assist in their promotions! I can assure you
that those who reached higher ranks, did so on their own merits.
Nothing to do with Parsis whatsoever.
I cannot however vouch for the other central govt.
