Re: [hlds] [hlds_linux] Mandatory TF2 update released
We've had it testing on our server for a while now. I notice a slight background/side static in *some* people's mics (identical kind of small static) that others aren't noticing. I'm wondering if it might have to do with my sound being set to 96000 Hz or something, but... I really wouldn't know. And of course there's when some people's mic chat turns them into chipmunks. Sugar coat it all you like – the change was FORCED when they could have left it to defaults and gave you the way to use this new codec rather than FORCE the change and give you a way to change it back. Just an FYI: Workshop Map downloads aren't working if you use sv_setsteamaccount on that server. On the plus side, it no longer crashes the server. I've sent some logging information to John Schoenick about it, since he was the one handling Map Workshop stuff. That is the intended behavior. The item does not allow RANDOM crits. The third-hit crit does not qualify as random. Now there is apparently an exploit where an Engineer can store one of these guaranteed crits for later use, but that doesn't appear to be what you are referring to. Re: [hlds] [hlds_linux] Mandatory TF2 update released
Right, but I enabled the sv_allow_votes cvar after map start... since I was only doing testing I didn't want to change the configuration. Incidentally, I know what's wrong in NativeVotes: TF2 now uses 0 for all teams instead of 255 / -1. A new NativeVotes 1.0 beta is out now, but I plan on backporting the fix (and new vote types) to it. The current 1.0x series will probably go away soon since changes to the VoteSetup usermessage murdered it. Oh glorious. Someone at Valve learned what readline is. The console command line is now accepting readline input. That means command line history (up arrow), ctrl+a, ctrl+e, ctrl+u, ctrl+k, etc. Look for these messages during server startup on the console: WARNING: Failed to load term functions in libtinfo.so.5 WARNING: Failed to load term functions in libncurses.so.5 The symptoms I was seeing are that the console was not accepting any input. Fixed with: sudo apt-get install lib32ncurses5 lib32tinfo5 Omitting this from the patch notes was a significantly negligent oversight, but in-line with expectations given historical trends. Re: [hlds] [hlds_linux] Mandatory TF2 update released
I agree with Lucas on bringing in Swiftwater; It's a map that's been tested and approved and I'm sure the community at large would love to pub on it. On another note, I can already envision the many changes coming to CactusCanyon...It's surprisingly easy to hold either of the teams in spawn, many odd flank routes that arent really taking save for a spy running for his life, plus I've seen first hand the cart breaking on Stage1. Cart got stuck on the cap point but the round wouldn't end nor would the timer go down, so blue had red team stuck in spawn for a good twenty minutes and it took a good number of Restart Game vote attempts before enough votes finally went through. ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: https://list.valvesoftware.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/hlds

Which version of Swiftwater? Part of Swiftwater's problem is that the author keeps changing it. Re: [hlds] [hlds_linux] Mandatory TF2 update released
Don't forget Ross that the map started as pl_swift before swiftwater and there indeed has been numerous versions of it. If and when they test a map, they will make a thorough test on it. I asked once if they could test one of my maps - and they did. Took them nearly 2 months to get to it due to workload but eventually, i got the feedback that i asked for. I can't be 100% certain on this but i think swiftwater has some of the flaws that mine had and they might have tested it before and rejected it due to that. But they don't really talk about these things. -ics Ross Bemrose kirjoitti: Which version of Swiftwater? Part of Swiftwater's problem is that the author keeps changing it. All I know is on East Coast US, all I'm seeing for Shows Servers are CactusCanyon servers... Valve Beta srcds146 -srcds150 with various numbers after them. [hlds] [hlds_linux] Mandatory TF2 update released (2015-06-26) = more client-side issues?
Hmmm.. trying to figure-out if this is just my TF2 server(s), or something bigger. But, ever since today's update - I'm a getting a lot of issues with client connections timing-out, etc. The server never crashes - it just keeps running. But the clients get the connection problem warning in the upper-right for several seconds (5-20), then (mostly) get back in without having to disconnect/reconnect. Anybody else experiencing a lot of this since today's update? PS: For me this is under Linux (Debian). Re: [hlds] [hlds_linux] Mandatory TF2 update released
Ah, I had only checked for the existence of sv_compressfragments. For what it's worth in my test of the prerelease build, the default convars didn't help to alleviate any issues. Only after I set sv_compressfragments to 0 did I see a visible improvement in performance. In fact the long frames had virtually disappeared other than the occasional one, but it performed much better than before. Hopefully the new compression scheme will be performant enough to not require disabling entirely. On Fri, May 17, 2013 at 1:27 PM, Fletcher Dunn fletch...@valvesoftware.comwrote: sv_compressstringtablebaselines should still be present in this build, and it is defaulted to false. The baselines are not compressed at that stage, instead we just compress them if desired like any other network data at either the fragment or packet stage. You might try adjusting this convar and see if it makes any difference. In my tests it did not, but I would be interested in any real world data on that question. I believe that the switch to a realtime compression library will fix the CPU spikes while getting the reduction in bandwidth that the compression was intended to achieve. The sv_compressfragments convar has been removed. You can get the same functionality simply by setting net_compresspackets_minsize to a large value. You might experiment with net_compresspackets_minsize to see if a larger or smaller value drastically effects performance and bandwidth. -Original Message- From: hlds_linux-boun...@list.valvesoftware.commailto: hlds_linux-boun...@list.valvesoftware.com [mailto: hlds_linux-boun...@list.valvesoftware.commailto: hlds_linux-boun...@list.valvesoftware.com] On Behalf Of Eric Smith Sent: Friday, May 17, 2013 11:09 AM To: Half-Life dedicated Win32 server mailing list; Half-Life dedicated Linux server mailing list; 'hlds_annou...@list.valvesoftware.commailto: hlds_annou...@list.valvesoftware.com' Subject: [hlds_linux] Mandatory TF2 update released We've released a mandatory update for Team Fortress 2.
