Re: [hlds] [hlds_linux] Mandatory TF2 update released

2016-12-21 Thread Josh Russell
We've had it testing on our server for a while now. I notice a slight
background/side static in *some* people's mics (identical kind of small
static) that others aren't noticing. I'm wondering if it might have to do
with my sound being set to 96000 Hz or something, but... I really wouldn't
know. And of course there's when some people's mic chat turns them into
chipmunks.

Re: [hlds] [hlds_linux] Mandatory TF2 update released

2016-12-21 Thread HD
Sugar coat it all you like – the change was FORCED when they could have left it
to defaults and gave you the way to use this new codec rather than FORCE the
change and give you a way to change it back.

Lol really…?

If it ain’t broke – don’t fix it.

Why force this change onto people from what was default? You should have made
this optional not the other way around.
I'm changing all my servers I have left back to the old codec as there are just
too many players having issues with it and others sound like they are in a hole.

Just an FYI: Workshop Map downloads aren't working if you use
sv_setsteamaccount on that server.

On the plus side, it no longer crashes the server. I've sent some logging
information to John Schoenick about it, since he was the one handling Map
Workshop stuff.

The short story is this: It appears that the content servers are throwing
403 Forbidden errors when you the server tries downloading workshop maps
when said server is logged into Steam.

Is it just me or do Valve map end votes no longer occur?

Could this be because sv_allow_votes is set to 0 on this server at map
start?

I only noticed this because I'm trying to debug why the NativeVotes
server plugin broke and was trying to collect data about various vote
types and that one isn't happening.

That is the intended behavior. The item does not allow RANDOM crits. The
third-hit crit does not qualify as random.

Now there is apparently an exploit where an Engineer can store one of these
guaranteed crits for later use, but that doesn't appear to be what you are
referring to.

 critical hit.

Re: [hlds] [hlds_linux] Mandatory TF2 update released

2014-10-15 Thread Ross Bemrose
Right, but I enabled the sv_allow_votes cvar after map start... since I
was only doing testing I didn't want to change the configuration.

Incidentally, I know what's wrong in NativeVotes: TF2 now uses 0 for
all teams instead of 255 / -1. A new NativeVotes 1.0 beta is out now,
but I plan on backporting the fix (and new vote types) to it.

The current 1.0x series will probably go away soon since changes to the
VoteSetup usermessage murdered it.

Re: [hlds] [hlds_linux] Mandatory TF2 update released

2014-08-07 Thread Jesse Molina

Oh glorious. Someone at Valve learned what readline is. The console
command line is now accepting readline input. That means command line
history (up arrow), ctrl+a, ctrl+e, ctrl+u, ctrl+k, etc.

Look for these messages during server startup on the console:

WARNING: Failed to load term functions in libtinfo.so.5
WARNING: Failed to load term functions in libncurses.so.5

The symptoms I was seeing are that the console was not accepting any input.

Fixed with: sudo apt-get install lib32ncurses5 lib32tinfo5

Omitting this from the patch notes was a significantly negligent
oversight, but in-line with expectations given historical trends.

Re: [hlds] [hlds_linux] Mandatory TF2 update released

2014-07-09 Thread N-Gon
I agree with Lucas on bringing in Swiftwater; It's a map that's been tested
and approved and I'm sure the community at large would love to pub on it.
On another note, I can already envision the many changes coming to
CactusCanyon...It's surprisingly easy to hold either of the teams in spawn,
many odd flank routes that arent really taking save for a spy running for
his life, plus I've seen first hand the cart breaking on Stage1. Cart got
stuck on the cap point but the round wouldn't end nor would the timer go
down, so blue had red team stuck in spawn for a good twenty minutes and it
took a good number of Restart Game vote attempts before enough votes
finally went through.

Re: [hlds] [hlds_linux] Mandatory TF2 update released

2014-07-09 Thread Ross Bemrose
Which version of Swiftwater?

Part of Swiftwater's problem is that the author keeps changing it. Even
now, there are two major versions currently in circulation:
pl_swiftwater_final_rc (the public version) and pl_swiftwater_ugc (the comp
Highlander version).

Also, keep in mind that there were twenty final release candidates before
the current rc... swiftwater has been in almost perpetual beta for years.

Lastly, what's the deal with only a single resupply cabinet in RED's huge
spawn room?

Re: [hlds] [hlds_linux] Mandatory TF2 update released

2014-07-09 Thread ics
Don't forget Ross that the map started as pl_swift before swiftwater and
there indeed has been numerous versions of it.

If and when they test a map, they will make a thorough test on it. I
asked once if they could test one of my maps - and they did. Took them
nearly 2 months to get to it due to workload but eventually, i got the
feedback that i asked for. I can't be 100% certain on this but i think
swiftwater has some of the flaws that mine had and they might have
tested it before and rejected it due to that.

But they don't really talk about these things.

Which version of Swiftwater?

Part of Swiftwater's problem is that the author keeps changing it.
Even now, there are two major versions currently in circulation:
pl_swiftwater_final_rc (the public version) and pl_swiftwater_ugc (the
comp Highlander version).

Also, keep in mind that there were twenty final release candidates
before the current rc... swiftwater has been in almost perpetual beta
for years.

Lastly, what's the deal with only a single resupply cabinet in RED's
huge spawn room?

[hlds] [hlds_linux] Mandatory TF2 update released (2015-06-26) = more client-side issues?

2014-06-26 Thread Weasels Lair
Hmmm.. trying to figure-out if this is just my TF2 server(s), or something
bigger.
But, ever since today's update - I'm a getting a lot of issues with client
connections timing-out, etc.
The server never crashes - it just keeps running.
But the clients get the connection problem warning in the upper-right for
several seconds (5-20), then (mostly) get back in without having to
disconnect/reconnect.

Anybody else experiencing a lot of this since today's update?

PS: For me this is under Linux (Debian).

Code has been posted on allied modders to fix the eyetest module to check for
that taunt:

https://forums.alliedmods.net/showpost.php?p=2154239postcount=21

It has to be compiled against the latest snapshot of sourcemod, and I haven't
actually gone and gotten that and tested it yet. But apparently that does fix
the issue.

Re: [hlds] [hlds_linux] Mandatory TF2 update released

2013-05-17 Thread Ryan Stecker
Ah, I had only checked for the existence of sv_compressfragments.

For what it's worth in my test of the prerelease build, the default convars
didn't help to alleviate any issues. Only after I set sv_compressfragments
to 0 did I see a visible improvement in performance. In fact the long
frames had virtually disappeared other than the occasional one, but it
performed much better than before.

Hopefully the new compression scheme will be performant enough to not
require disabling entirely.

bandwidth that the compression was intended to achieve.

The sv_compressfragments convar has been removed. You can get the same
functionality simply by setting net_compresspackets_minsize to a large
 value.

You might experiment with net_compresspackets_minsize to see if a larger
or smaller value drastically effects performance and bandwidth.

In my tests it did not, but I would be interested in any real world data
 on that question.

 Great, thanks Fletch!
Will definitely be on the lookout for any perf issues with these
 changes.

A note regarding the CPU spikes:

I would encourage server operators to revert any changes made to
disable compression, set all such convars to their default values, and
re-evaluate performance and bandwidth. I believe that the switch to a
realtime compression library will fix the CPU spikes while getting the
reduction in bandwidth that the compression was intended to achieve.

The sv_compressfragments convar has been removed. You can get the same
functionality simply by setting net_compresspackets_minsize to a large
 value.

You might experiment with net_compresspackets_minsize to see if a
larger or smaller value drastically effects performance and bandwidth.

We've released a mandatory update for Team Fortress 2. The notes for
 the update are below.

 -Eric

 ==

 Source Engine Changes
 - Fixed server CPU spikes caused by compression of string tables and
 packets.
 - Added sv_netspike, sv_netspike_sendtime_ms, and sv_netspike_output
 convars for investigating server performance
 - net_compresspackets_minsize default value increased to 1024. This
convar now also determines the threshold to determine when a fragment
(logical game network message, before being broken up into network packets)
 is compressed.
 - Added vprof_vtrace and vprof_report_oninterval convars, and tweaked
vprof_dump_spikes and vprof_dump_oninterval to reduce output

 Team Fortress 2
 - Added the Robotic Boogaloo community update:
 http://www.teamfortress.com/roboticboogaloo/
 - Fixed a chat exploit that would cause other clients to timeout from
 dedicated servers
 - Updated the Mann Co. Store
- Added RoboCrate Keys
- Added A Random RoboKey Gift
- Added Pile of RoboKey Gifts
- Backpack Expanders on sale at 80% off
 - Updated the localization files

Thanks for the heads up Eric.

It would be great if we could get a word back from a Valve employee
on

the CPU spiking issue that started happening with the Pyro update.
There's been a couple threads about it and no word from Valve. New
updates are nice and all but I would prefer to have a stable server
over

new content.
