Seems the account : logged in status doesn't change. I tried
to include the same account/identity information on a second server and
both servers said logged in.

Anyone else experienced this?

This update was required for DoD:S, though it was not announced as
required for that game and its steam.inf was not updated (the same is
likely true for HL2MP). Valve team, please bump the version in steam.inf
for all games that require the update, if possible.

Also, I didn't actually see an update for the CS:S DLLs. Only files in
 the orangebox folder were changed.

Re: [hlds] Team Fortress 2 Update Released

2011-11-02 Thread Fletcher Dunn
Oops, that should read

- Output of status command *NOW* includes registration status, including any
error message causing failure

I believe that it should now be abundantly clear when you are successfully
registered, and when that state changes. if you see any brokenness in the
registration system, please let me know. This event is the first of hopefully
more privileges associated with server registration. We want it to work
reliably and we apologize for some flakiness this past week.

Also, if you suspect funky characters in your identity are causing
complications, use the cl_gameserver_reset_identity command on the client to
get a new one. We've changed the identity generation to use a really
restricted character set.

A few servers will probably notice that they have been banned.

Your humble servant,
Fletch

Actually the butthurt part is causing me concern.

Obviously of course, an admin freezing everyone on the server while
noclipping in the event maps is obvious abuse, but I seen butthurt players
making up stories or exaggerate abuse when they really were punished for
their own behavior (like insulting other players). This is probably
especially a problem on bigger communities.

And of course there is the unfortunate (but speculative) case of a admin
going rogue for his own benefit. The abuse system could use some feedback.

We learned the hard way not to trust players, even for rtv/votekick/voteban.
It happened that players of other communities or some random groups, joined
the server in big groups and started votes to kick/ban everyone else or keep
changing map.
And it's incredible the amount of whiners that start complaining just for
the sake of it on the community forum after being banned for insulting
heavily other players or even for using cheats. Well administered servers
risk to be targets to this abuse report system exactly like bad servers,
only servers with no admins at all are immune from complains.

There's already certain communities planning raids on their competitors
using the abuse report tool.

But I seriously doubt it will work out for them the way they think. Just
going to make more work for Valve. I doubt it's automated.

I guess it's mostly it's to report Halloween abuse or servers abusing the
quickplay system (pay to win, instant respawn, etc),

Re: [hlds] Team Fortress 2 Update Released

2011-10-28 Thread Fletcher Dunn
This should have been included in the release notes:

* Added more verbose console output to help debug registration problems.

Also, we typically don't put backend fixes in the release notes, but I did find
a bug in the backend that would cause a server logging into registered account
to fail. I think it's probably been in for a long time, only nobody has paid
very close attention to the registration status of their server before.

How does it work? Do you penalize the server after xxx reports or do you

My client just crashed a couple of times. Sourcemod seems to be causing

The client crash doesn't seem to be related with the server issue.

Just because someone posts something dosen't mean it needs to be fixed by
valve. We are all server operators here. Time we started treating others
like it.

2011-10-27 Thread Spencer 'Voogru' MacDonald
There seems to be a crash on map change if replay somehow gets turned
off (for example, if the replay information for the server is bad). I've
reproduced it with no plug-ins on the server.

Just thought I'd let you all know.

Just because someone posts something dosen't mean it needs to be fixed
by valve. We are all server operators here. Time we started treating
others like it.

Only workaround is to spam a key so that you pick your class instantly.

Re: [hlds] Team Fortress 2 Update Released

2011-10-20 Thread Team BOOM!
Additional info:

I re-ran the update tool on one of our servers that was experiencing the
client crashes for some clients. I just saw the following update came down
evn thought I already updated the server to the latest version

Updating 'Team Fortress 2 Content' from version 285 to version 286
Updating 'Team Fortress 2 Content' from version 285 to version 286
100.00% downloading /orangebox\tf\scripts\items\items_game.txt

It seems newer clients without few items were less likely to experience the
join-class crashes than ones with certain items. Since running the update
again and receiving this one file, the broken clients are now able to join a
class without crashing on our server.

I recommend re-running the update tool if your clients are still crashing
when joining a class on your server.

Valve, I just picked hammer again after Monday and it will freeze after a
few seconds of loading a map.

A whole bunch of people at tf2maps.net also have similar problems. I just
wanted to be sure you are aware of this.

Thanks!

Dunno about the clientside since i yet have to try, but I agree it was very
lame to remove the painterly option. A lot of players who didn't use their

Other thing I've noticed is that you can't switch between

Stop hijacking threads. And yes it's also used in CS:S and DoD:S. You

it's nicer to be able to track issues by subject -- starting a new email to

Re: [hlds] Team Fortress 2 Update Released

In regards to:

- Fixed Cannot Craft text not appearing on certain item tooltips

The bug still exists. In the trading window the other player cannot see
the not craftable text under your item.
An increasing amount of players are being scammed on my server because
of this.

For the first time I saw those Out of Range errors on my 24/7 2Fort

getting about twice daily my servers just freezing and no longer
responding. Aside from the occasional blatant DDOS attacks I have
been getting, dunno if it's an exploit or something occurring from
one of the updates in the last two months or so. Sometimes it
generates a dump file, sometimes it seems to not have a chance to
spit one out. I am confident its not a SM issue, but who knows...
Rather tiresome having to restart the servers all the time.

I'm confused, though! I started my update right when I say Jason send out

checking the Valve servers for server updates.
