Let me guess. This is another of those "mainframe limitations" because the
windows team doesn't have to report utilization therefore the "problem" isn't
seen over there.

Mark,
You should be able to use the DEF RECATALOG. With the RECATALOG, IDCAMS will
look at the dataset on the DASD volume and build the catalog entries for the
dataset.

Actually, having been an application programmer in my past, I would have been
somewhere between surprised and dismayed to see the lines of code function as
you want. The RETURN-CODE variable is documented as returning a code either
back to the operating system or to the calling program.

Is DF/DSS smart enough to notice that if I am sending the output to DD DUMMY to
not recall HSM migrated datasets before deleting them?

How about REGION=16385K?

Yup, VVDSes existed way back then. I remember initializing new 3380Ds and Es,
and trying to get the VTOC, VTOCIX, and VVDS all sitting nicely right next to
each other. Some at the beginning of the volume, some 1/3 of the way through
depending on the type of data that was going to reside
So current IBM management looks like they're trying to break the company into a
bunch of smaller companies like Akers(?) tried to do several years ago???

Ray,
Just out of curiosity, would it work if you added a third DD card to the
original SYSLPARM DD concatenation? The JCL ref manual doesn't explicitly
state the override needs something to override, but it might be worth a try.
Can you try something like:
//SYSLPARM DD DSN=&&tempds,DISP=(O

Mark,
Let me ask a general question about IBM packaging. Does IBM ever send a fixing
PTF with a PRE(PE-PTF) instead of a SUP(PE-PTF)? If the fixing PTF has a PRE
of the PTF you deleted, would you not be causing yourself problems in that the
PRE PTF is now missing?

John,
In your case, yes that is what it means. Look up the retention control
statements in the TLMS manuals. You have 2 locations described by this line,
in 5DC0001, you are using days to control the time it stays here (5), the
location is DC, and it is sticking around 1 day. In the second c

Obviously I don't have access to their source code, so I can't answer your

the help you (and others) gave me while I was trying to figure this one out.
