Try this. When you are in the correct folder, deselect all files with Control plus spacebar. Then press the application key or Shift plus F10 and select New from the menu that appears. Text document is one of the options. It will create the file with the filename highlighted to you can name it.

Hi Tom, The problem with many laptops is that there is no Insert key. On my new Lenovo X250, the insert key is a FN+End key combination. And, typically, the FN key is on the left side of the keyboard and the End key on the right. So, it makes it really difficult to get some of the JAWS key
