I’m thrilled to say that I have received two beautiful bookmarks this week, one
from Lorri Ferguson, adapted from a Malmesbury lace pattern and the other a
beautiful tatted dragon from Sabine Hickling both are fabulous and I will
use them as I do others from previous exchanges. Thank you both and thank you

[lace] Bookmark exchange 2018.

2018-05-15 Thread Celia Mulhearn
Today the postman bought me a lovely surprise, my Beautiful Bookmark from
Jacqui Southworth. I have thanked her personally but want to thank her again
and to thank Lin Hudren for organising again. I am a little behind with mine
but will get it photographed and posted soon.

I am, at present packing stuff away ready for the decorators to come in which
house seem very strange and not like home - probably because my hobbies bits
and pieces are not scattered everywhere, but I get to put them all back when I
come home from holiday. Then I must get on with the lace for a wedding garter
for my daughter. The wedding is in October and my daughter is actually
borrowing the garter I made for my sister-in-law and so it’s not a desperate
rush, but I wanted her to have one of her own to pass on to any daughters she
may have.
Take Care and thank you fellow Arachnids for all the posts, I love reading them
and was a little worried when it seemed very quiet for a while
Take care and enjoy your lacemaking

Re: [lace] Bookmark exchange,

2017-08-10 Thread jviking
Hi All, My partner in 2000 or 2001 sent me a scan of a beautiful bookmark
and she mailed the real thing. Sadly the real one never arrived and I
didn't feel she should have to make another so I only got the scan.

After 9/11 there was an anthrax-in-the-mail scare and I hoped they would
find it when they searched the US post offices but no such luck.

Considering how many pieces of lace have made it through the mail system
losing a few is not surprising. I remember Sulochona in India telling me
to wrap anything in plain brown paper with no fancy stamps so not one
would be tempted to steal the package. Everything I sent her got there!

Happy lacing! Jane in Vermont, USA where it's lovely and green outside!

[lace] Bookmark exchange,

2017-08-08 Thread susan

Yes, I do mean the bookmark exchange. I made and sent my exchange piece of
lace on its way at the end of April and me and my swap partner waited but it
seems to have gone to mars or something and never made it to its end
destination, so in recent weeks I completed a very different type of lace
using one of Lins rpl patterns which I had been playing with for some time
and
it went off about 3 weeks ago and I just heard from the lady that it
arrived.

I am so pleased it made it as I was very disappointment that she didn’t
receive the original one. Her piece to me had been here for some time and
is

very beautiful and this is the first time in any of the swaps I have taken
part in where one had gone missing. So the one on the website never made
it

and the new one is a colourful tulip.
I hope everyone else received their exchanges after everyones hard work.

I have received my lovely Lace bookmark from Laura De Bruyn. It has lots

A lovely gift to arrive today to liven up a chaotic day with decorators

I have thanked Laura privately, but mine to her seems to have got lost

2017-06-17 Thread Lin Hudren
There are still bookmarks winging their way to their destinations. I would
appreciate hearing from you if you have not received yours yet. The postal
system is letting us down this time around. It would be good to know if
delays are in a specific region or just one country. I know South Africa
has had problems for a couple of years and now it seems Australia might be
having difficulties. If you have not received your bookmark, please let me
know and let's wait one more week to see what happens. I make extras and
will provide you one if you are having difficulties as a "holding" bookmark
until the postal system gets their act working again and you receive your
true partner's bookmark. Thanks for helping me with this investigation.

have 106 bookmarks to enjoy and be inspired by. Jenny does such a
wonderful job of presenting everyone's talent in the best of lights. I do
hope you will all take the time to peruse the web pages

how much you enjoyed being able to take this time and just enjoy some
relaxing time seeing what others have accomplished this year and hopefully
be inspired to participate next year. she not only provided the book
covers of the pattern sources, but she also gave comments by the creator of
how it was worked and with what threads. it is amazing how many provided
their own designs - so inspirational. it is very inspiring to see what
others create. thanks for being involved and to those who participated, i
hope all will get involved next year. this is sharing lace and enjoying
making something special for another to enjoy 24/7.

i thank all that signed up for the exchange and hope others will plan and
think about being a participant next year. the schedule will be spread out
much like this year so should give everyone an opportunity to enjoy the
involvement, plan and take the time to create. i am always willing to
accommodate your preferences to the best of my ability. just tell me and i
will work it out. thanks again to all. enjoy the opportunity to have eye

Re: [lace] bookmark exchange

2016-05-19 Thread sueat
You are very welcome Beth, I really did enjoy the process this time. I
spent some time leafing through many patterns and allowed my own likes to
decide what to make for you. Making Lace is about indulging ourselves in
creating something we think will look pretty and the other person will enjoy
and with more time to achieve it all I didn't feel under too much pressure
which I do sometimes.
I hope you will enjoy seeing it marking your place in a reading book, is you
get enough time to sit and read, or to keep the page of a pattern you want
to come back to or a technique you find yourself having to revisit on
occasion. My exchange gift to me from last year greets me frequently
because of where it keeps a page in my diary, I can open a number of books
and find a bookmark tucked inside keeping a good page marked for the future.

[lace] Bookmark exchange - it's arrived

2016-05-11 Thread Alison Gray
Dear Stormy

Thank you so much for my book mark, it is so pretty, and how did you know
that was my favourite colour?

It arrived earlier this afternoon. I would have emailed earlier but I felt
guilty that my one for you was less than half done. It's now just over half
done and hopefully over the weekend I will get a bit more time and finish
it. I got off to a bad start as, having wound nearly half the bobbins, I
found that the vintage thread I'd chosen wasn't going to be enough. So that

Re: [lace] Bookmark Exchange 2016

2016-05-09 Thread sueat
I have to say that I have enjoyed this bookmark exchange more than some in
other years, for the simple reason that the time span this year has allowed
me to handle a couple of major issues which have occurred since it was
announced, and even reject some lace ideas and choose others without feeling
stressed. I love to send lace I am happy with as a gift to someone, not to
just send something out which I am less than content with and I am happy to
say that time has allowed that in a more relaxed way and not in sheer panic
that I might miss the deadline.
So thank you Lin for organising it in this way and hope it happens in a
similar way in the future and that the others partaking are also feeling as
contented with this arrangement. I am looking forward to seeing all the
different types of ideas that come out with each new exchange and wonder why
I didn't think of that, or marvel at the different types and look in lace.
Thank you to Jenny in advance as I know you always make a great job of
displaying our lace and that has all reminded me to make sure I scan or
photograph my completed pieces, lol.

Keep on enjoying your lace making.

We are down to the last 4 weeks of the bookmark exchange. If you are
saying "I should have" or "Bummer, I wish I had", send me your snail mail
address (linhud...@gmail.com) and join in the fun. There is still plenty
of time to make a bookmark and mail it off to one who will most assuredly
love to receive it. The exchange is meant to inspire and to enjoy and
share pleasure and inspiration. It is a way to plan, work and gift to
another like-minded planner, creator and giver. I eagerly await hearing
from you members of a wonderful group.

[lace] Bookmark Exchange Thank You

2016-04-11 Thread Lin Hudren
I would like to take a moment to say I am thankful, amazed and so pleased
at the participation in this year's bookmark exchange. Your participation
has made this the most active exchange according to Jenny's web pages since
2006. It just is one more example of how wonderful and sharing Arachneans
are. It is going to be a lot of work for Jenny but she will show us once
again just how great she is. I cannot wait to see what she does this year
(she doesn't allow me a sneak peek - boo hoo!). Each year she goes one
step further to not only show us what has occurred but to help us learn as
well. Please share kudos with her as you share your projects. Thank you.

Thank you, again, for participating and I hope you will continue to do
so. I know I have expanded my learning and been inspired with the
exchanges of the past. Fortunately bookmarks are 24/7/365 so there are
memories all year long. I use more than one at a time as they go into lace
books, cook books, novels and even magazines. When I open that book or
magazine, I get a treat and remember fondly where that one originated and
can admire the awesomeness of the lacing. Enjoy and please watch for
Jenny's web page availability announcement.

2016-03-12 Thread Lin Hudren
We are down to the last days for sign ups for the bookmark exchange but
don't worry if you are a day or so behind. I will make it happen. Just
contact me (*linhud...@gmail.com *) and it will be
worked out. Also, if you are delayed in mailing your bookmark to your
partner, let your partner and me know so we can take the worry out of the
wonderful anticipation. This is to be FUN not a job or chore. I will be
sending out the exchange partner pairings in a day or so - no later than
3/20 but sooner if able. I am always anxious to know who will be getting
my bookmark and what far away place I will be receiving mail from. But if
you were on holiday or didn't see the announcement until the last minute -
join in anyway. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. I believe there is time
to get a bookmark made and in the mail by June 1st.

This year the schedule will go like this:

March 1-18 Sign Ups

March 20 Exchange partner assignments made and emailed out

June 1 All bookmarks should be in the mail (receipt by 7-10 days
after this)

Please send me your name, snail mailing address, email address, how many
bookmark(s) you wish to make and any geographical location(s) you prefer,
if any. Thank you.

If this is your first time, you are going to have lots of pleasure. If you
have been doing this for years, you know how much fun it can be. Any type
of lace and pattern is appropriate. Any skill level is welcome. This is
"creative license" at its best. Don't be shy - shine.

[lace] 2016 Arachne Lace Bookmark Exchange

2016-02-26 Thread Lin Hudren
Hello Everyone.

Firstly, I would like to thank all those participants in the bookmark
exchange last year as it was rushed and everyone managed to make it
happen. So, this year I am compensating by stretching it out a bit
longer. We had an awesome turnout which just adds to the wonderfulness of
Aracheans.

This year the schedule will go like this:

March 1-18 Sign Ups

March 20 Exchange partner assignments made and emailed out

June 1 All bookmarks should be in the mail (receipt 7-10 days
after this)

Same rules apply as the previous bookmark and card exchanges: send in
name, snail mail address, email address, how many bookmarks you wish to
make and any geographical preferences to me at *linhud...@gmail.com
*. After making your bookmark(s) please take a
picture and email directly to Jenny Brandis (je...@brandis.com.au) who once
again is a dear heart and will be posting all on her web site and/or to me (
linhud...@gmail.com) and I will forward to her. If you wonder if your
partner was able to send in a photo of her bookmark to you, just send a
photo upon receipt and Jenny will make sure everyone is represented
accordingly. We will be following up to make sure we get photos of all of
them so if you think you will have a problem, just let me know. Thanks.

Last year Jenny updated all the patterns submitted to her on the bookmark
and card exchange web pages. If you submit your pattern to her, I am sure
she will be most happy to add that to the accumulation from over the
years. These are much appreciated for inspiration and eye candy. Thank
you.

Any problems, just let me know. If you are going to be late, please let
your partner and myself know. If you have to drop out for some reason,
please personally contact me (linhud...@gmail.com) as soon as possible so I
can ensure everyone has a partner. Thank you.

If this is your first time or you are participating for an additional time,
you are going to have lots of fun. Any type of lace and pattern is
appropriate. Any skill level is welcome. This is creative license at its
best. Don't be shy. This is your time to shine.

Thanks and enjoy as much as I plan to.

With the postal wars out there, your bookmark may still be in transit.
Thanks for your patience. Please check back on the web site in a week or
so to see the missing scans/photos and often times during the year to get
inspiration. They are so lovingly created and shared. Jenny will add the
missing scans/photos as they arrive. We are dealing with
vacations/holidays and scans not done in the rush to mail so recipients are
carrying the load - thank you. But I am anxious to see what is missing
when it is added. Thank all of you who shared in this adventure with a
purpose and new home for our lace endeavors. Sharing lace is what keeps us
happy to be lacing. I had a grand time and hope you did as well.

Dear Jenny and Lin,

A wonderful collaboration - the organization, publicity and site where we
can view the laces all exceed expectations.

Of particular interest was the covers of books in which participants found
their patterns. It is a nice way to show contents of the books, for
those who might be thinking of buying one. And, how appropriate to show
bookmarks with books, since they do travel together in our minds.

So much variety - bobbin, crochet, needlelace, netting, tatting. Thanks

In today's mail I received a lovely bookmark from Lorri Ferguson in Washington

It practically usable as a bookmark. Also included was some history about where
the pattern came from, which I really appreciate. It being Scottish is so
fitting, as I have a bit 'o the Scots in me.

Thanks, Lorri

of thread for $1 plus three size 14 hooks for another $1. Frankly I'm
embarrassed that I paid so little, but at least they are all coming to a good
home will see the light of day! They flowers will make perfect vintage
embellishments for a CQ block who doesn't need a size 14 hook with cap for
each pillow! Sincerely, Susan Hottle, Erie, PA USA

Evening everyone,

Well it is time to start the Bookmark Exchange. The schedule will go
like this:

March 1-20 Sign ups.
April 1Assignments made and emailed out.
May 20 All bookmarks should be in the mail.

Same rules apply as the Christmas exchange: Send in name, snail mail
address, and how many bookmarks you want to make.
After making your bookmark(s) please take a picture and email to either
me or Jenny Brandis who will post the pictures on her
web site. If you do not have a digital camera or scanner you can take
regular pictures and send them to me. I will scan them in
then forward them on to Jenny. If you are going to be late let me know
please. If you have to drop out for some reason please
personally contact me as soon as possible so I can ensure everyone has
a partner.

If there are any questions, just ask.

[lace] Lace Bookmark Exchange

2012-02-10 Thread lackam

Hello all,

While organizing the Christmas exchange this last year I was asked
about a book exchange by quite a few newer members who did not feel
they were ready for the Christmas exchange. It has been several years
since the last bookmark exchange and after consulting with Jenny
Brandis I have decided to organize a bookmark exchange.

Sign ups will run from March 1st through the 20th.
Partner assignments will be emailed out the 1st of April. (Yes I will
include email addresses this time.)

Mailings to partners should be no later than May 20th.

The rules will be the same as with the Christmas Exchange with pictures
being sent to Jenny Brandis to archive on the site. Please remember to
tell her where your pattern comes from.

I will send out a sign up notice the first of March. I hope we have
lots of participates.

Cheers,
Amber Lackey
